Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: Janabis on November 02, 2006, 10:39:50 PM Just a suggestion, but if you're updating the setlist as the show progresses, then just edit your original post at the top of the thread as you go along. That way the setlist stays at the top of the thread and no one has to search through a half dozen pages to piece together the setlist. : ok:

5 new songs are enough, and people who watched them knew that in old songs we have a real crowd explosion and real emotions fuckers,if you say we have a more new songs, you are in big trouble you'll have a new songs on cd,so if you want more than 5-6 new songs on show you aren't right Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: kaasupoltin on November 03, 2006, 03:33:03 AM First line I read from this thread was like "AWESOME FUCKING SETLIST!", so first I thought that they played new songs.. or at least some "old-new-songs". But noooo, nothing new really. But I gotta admit that the setlist is still fucking great  We are just waiting for the new L.A Forum.

by far the best set list this fuckin tour!!! Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: Negleyjj on November 03, 2006, 04:01:21 AM Just got back. FUCKING AMAZING. I pray there were bootleggers!
I mean... You're Crazy? The first time the appetite version has been played since 93! (I think) FIVE new songs. It was AMAZING. I was at the first night of Hammerstein, and this was VERY close to topping it. Probably 10% knew the new songs (yes, I realize that's really high) and even more knew IRS (I assume from the radio play back in Jan/Feb), and all the people that didn't still seemed VERY into them... Although people were really confused when MLK started talking lol I'll write a proper review tomorrow if I have time, I got class in 5 hours. Later EDIT: Oh yeah, although it was nowhere near sold out, it was FAR from empty like some were predicting on MyGNR... OH - and Frank is the motherfuckin' man! He was so happy the whole time, always smiling, and he stood out to me far more than Bryan did in NYC. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Bryan contributed some amazing stuff to the CD, but live? Frank owns all. EDIT 2: Friend just reminded me: Start time was 11:38, finish was 2:03 Seriously, time for bed now guys Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: tim_m on November 03, 2006, 04:19:31 AM cool review, i believe you are right about you're crazy.
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: kaasupoltin on November 03, 2006, 04:36:05 AM No they didn't play AFD version of You're Crazy during 1993. Lies version was part of the acoustic set on Skin n' Bones tour.

Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: ben9785 on November 03, 2006, 05:52:48 AM they didn't have to do this, but i'd say, that is one fucking amazing setlist, not that i was one to judge them before, but yeah, thats the shit. i hope everybody who went there enjoyed it. and the people who weren't happy with the setlist, might appreciate this. this is the only gig where theyve done all those new songs at once right? excluding rhiad, silkworms etc
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: tim_m on November 03, 2006, 06:07:09 AM don't forget TWAT and Oh my god.

Great setlist...just great...I'm so fuckin' happy man, I love it. For some reason GNR/Axl seem to always pull one hell of a show out of the bag in Greensboro. Back on the 1st leg of the UYI tour they put on a fuckin show similiar to the 4hr show at the Forum too bad there is no setlist from then but here is some info from that show 06.25.91 - Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC opening act: Skid Row audio/video recording?: no notes: Apparently another long show - estimated to be around 215 minutes!! GN'R hit the stage an hour late, at 10 p.m. A large part of the audience left early, leaving many empty seats. Axl asks the audience to forgive them if their playing is a bit sloppy since they're still learning to play the new songs. After about 12:30 a.m., Axl invites the remaining audience to move down to the lower premium seats. Note how 10pm was considered late hahahaha Sounds like an awsome show last night can't wait for some reviews. Rock on Gunners Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: Journeyman on November 03, 2006, 08:11:33 AM great setlist. The guys that went there yesterday must still be shaking :hihi:
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: Randy Jesus on November 03, 2006, 09:45:19 AM I am really surprised... Great Set list
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: nooz on November 03, 2006, 09:54:15 AM November 2nd 2006 was neither cold nor rainy. Guns And Roses took the stage in Greensboro after 11:30. The crowd was young and they could not have been disappointed.
Axl whaled through the Appetite for Destruction era music. He did not miss a note all night his voice was shockingly clear and strong. That he has not blown out that amazing voice was a wonder to behold. The new material was far more melancholy than Axl?s mood. It was the first time I had heard any of it. It made me want to hear his reflections on the last few year, even if Chinese Democracy is not hailed a masterpiece. I want to hear it I still love his voice. Axl played the small venue in Greensboro with the intensity he used to play arenas. He harbored no contempt for the small crowd and venue it was evident he was enjoying himself as was the rest of the band. For a Guns and Roses fan it was fantastic, small arena, not crowded, nice venue with nice staff. We were able to move around freely and see the show from may different places. Great mix as well, I didn?t think the solos were to long or out of line with the amount of talent that is on the stage, and it was actually quite enjoyable to hear from everyone. Soulful sweet solos were given by the players, and the complaints I had heard about these interludes made no sense to me. I really enjoyed them. It was a nice break from the intensity of all the AFD era material and showcased the depth of the band. The volume level was great, the bands energy level was high, fueled in no small part by what seems to be Fink, Fortus and Stinson?s never ending supply of energy! The most pleasant surprise of the night was how much I enjoyed Fortus and Fink?s playing; I look forward to hearing their work on the record. I like soulful guitar and have never been that impressed by mere technical skill. No Slash and no Duff and another new drummer is an idea I guess I have grown use to. The newest band members played the old music with mastery. They made it interesting and there own at several points in the night.? The new guitar player Bumblefoot from NY has an amazing ear for picking out melodics and making them his own without over emphasis on speed and precision (much promise there for the future). Axl whaled it was a great show. Thank you for giving it 100%. After all these years of confusion the show was the greatest gift I could have hoped for. After paying a fortune to see The Rolling Stones and U2 last year this ticket was a bargain.? The new stuff sounds promising. When they find the pocket in the new stuff like they were on it with the old stuff last night, it?s going to be amazing. Come back and see us in Charlotte Guns and Roses! Oh yeah and one more thing, never heard a word of advertising or promotion for the show. If I did not monitor HTGTH I would never have known there was a show. I am on multiple concert promotion list for the area and go to many shows. No one in Charlotte I know knew you were playing, Of course none of us listen to Radio anyway, glorious to be free of that chain at last?New Era, better balance, better spirits, excesses to wisdom, bring it on?. Buy your t-shirts early by the time I left that stuff was packed up. (Not sure Peter Grant would approve!) I don't think the next record will take as long to come out as Chinese Democracy, there is some chemistry cooking here. (Sorry EFISH about the confusion with new songs, knowing the board should have known best guess wouldn?t work! Could not see to type in dark more details, you were a good sport about it all) Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: CheapJon on November 03, 2006, 10:17:54 AM was TWAT played?
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: gandra on November 03, 2006, 12:15:35 PM if you said that arena wad full,is it posible that there were more than 15000 people
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: Duguncw1996 on November 03, 2006, 12:37:44 PM No, it was no where near full. Greensboro is a huge arena, around 23,000 for basketball but last night they had the drapes down in the upper areana so there was only about 4 or 5 rows being used upstairs. Floor was only about half full and the lower wasn't full either. At best, I would guess between 6,000 - 7,000 but it was a good crowd and I would say 3/4 stayed until 2:02 when the lights came on.
Duguncw1996 Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: GNRSANDMAN on November 03, 2006, 12:45:58 PM We'll there ya go with no new album. Here in San Diego if they played the original date scheduled I'd be surprised if more than 5k were there in an area that holds about 15k. Just doesn't look good.
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: dlive11 on November 03, 2006, 12:58:51 PM Even though it was not sold out, the show was unbelievable. I think that once word gets out that the tour is solid and is not going to get cancelled (like the first attempt did) people will go. It looked like Axl enjoyed the show and the crowd, regardless of the size.
A couple of the guys that sat behind me were cynical about the show (which doesnt make sense if you pay 75 for a ticket) before it started (the slash issue) and by the end of the show they were eating their words. I think people are seeing that the new additions are unreal musicians and Axl means business. Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: Duguncw1996 on November 03, 2006, 01:09:08 PM For those of you who have seen the show on this leg of the tour, has Axl been chunking his mic into the crowd every night? I remember back in 1993 at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill he did. And then last night he let it fly again, about 10 feet in front of me (no chance to get it as it hit the guy in the chest and fell right in front of him). Just curious if he has been doing this every night. Picks and drumsticks are cool and all but that Mic would have been awesome to get...

Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: a. on November 03, 2006, 01:35:57 PM I think it's great there's no marketing or communication. That's not what music is about! Music is about music, playing shows and building repertoire and respect from the fans, which they are doing fantastically. I can't wait for the Calgary, AB show!

That said, that really is a great setlist, and what sucks even more is I should have been at this show, but unfortunately things came up and I wasnt able to go. :'(
This is easily the best setlist of the tour so far, and it seems the crowd was really cool...thanks for representing us North Carolinians well  Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: nooz on November 03, 2006, 04:08:19 PM Even though it was not sold out, the show was unbelievable. Can't wait to tell my brother what he missed. The fact that Axl has lost so much money to stand his ground (be 100%) will be a mute point if the shows continue on like this. As excited as I am Chinese Democracy is going to be released in some sort of timely manner and have the band in place to support it, I am even more excited some stability has been achieved by the camp. Previously I was ambiguous about the release of the record, now I want to hear it. Making lemonade from lemons (undoing negative perceptions) can take a while. They look prepared to invest the time and effort it takes to go the long haul. Shows like last night go along way to firing up a new generations of fans, and they were out there. As an old fan I feel vindicated. Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: requiem156 on November 03, 2006, 04:23:06 PM Even though it was not sold out, the show was unbelievable.? One funny thing I saw was during one of the early songs Bumblefoot kicked the strobe light off the side of the stage I was on because it was pretty much blinding him. It didn't break and just flashed on the floor instead. I could hear people yelling "Where's Slash?? and "Your no Slash" but I think they came away with a different view of the new band.....if they weren't messed up enough to remember. Also there were a couple fights that are always fun to watch and one particular woman who was so messed up she was carried out of the standing area THREE TIMES! Anyway the show was AMAZING and I HIGHLY recommend you to go and see them if you having second thoughts about going. They literally made me forget about the old band! :peace: : ok: ;D
Title: Re: Greensboro, NC Updates Post by: The Legend on November 03, 2006, 11:43:44 PM Ok I talked to the guy who gave me updates last night and he said You're Crazy wasn't the fast version, he said it was more like the Live Era one. Ah ok. The Live Era one was kind of a mixture of the fast & acoustic. I personally like it the best like that. That's great. No, it was no where near full. Duguncw1996 I would say that overall they're doing about the same crowds they were doing in 2002, which is really not a bad thing. To not have an album out or a single, and still be able to get anywhere from 6,000-10,000 people out to the show, is a great thing. |
