Anyone ever heard this before or know where it came from?  Its obviously very early on in the songs development!

Could it have been .44 caliber horticulture?

very moving--- the song at this stage has more feeling without the over the top production Axl gave it ....

this is how the song should have resembled a little more...

Yep this and the piano version were on it IIRC.

Yes, I have this on vinyl bought back in 1989.  Both NR demos are on it.

I've got the piano version mp3.  Never heard that one though.

I got that version a while ago (off the hub I think).  It's wonderful.  The Illusions version of NR is a masterpiece, but this version is just raw and bare bones, and its still incredible.  Hearing some of these old recordings is one of the reasons why I love GnR so much.

This has been out for awhile no?

I've had it for a bunch of time.

Don't think it's too rare.

The finished Illusion version is so overplayed, it's hard to listen to it and get any kind of true feeling. Hearing the demo again reminds me of when I first heard November Rain on Illusion was like " what a pretty cool song "

Yeah, they were both on it. I remember having a casette dub of a dub of a dub of a dub (of a dub : ok:) back in 89 or 90. It also had 'Shadow of Love' and 'Whole lotta Rosie' on it, well, my dubbed casette tape did at least.

I still wish they went with the stripped down piano version on UYI.. I never really liked NR as after hearing these raw versions it just seemed too overproduced.

November Rain is a masterpiece the way it is.

Sometimes you just gotta say, "get me a piano, and get that fuckin' guitar away from me".

Right, but there is a piano demo similar to this version. Very raw & bare-bones, just Axl & a piano, same hollow vocal style.

Oh I know, and I love it. But there's also a guitar-driven one, that just doesn't work for me.

GnR should've done an acoustic album of all their songs. Axl's voice is so fuckin cool alongside an acoustic guitar

I'm really surprised that a lot people haven't heard this before! I remember hearing this online about 2 or 3 years ago.

Wow, I never knew I was on the "inside" ;)

This version is pre AFD. I personally think they should have held off releasing Lies and made a full album in 1989.Take the 1988 songs off Lies and add in ?Nov Rain ?plus Civil War, throw in the Garden and Yesterdays which were already sort of in the mix and you would have a killer single album follow up to AFD. Distinctly different-semi acoustic semi electric- yet cool. Patience and Civil War as the singles. Hindsight is 20-20.... :hihi:

Thanks.  I have this whole demo but never knew where it was from.  I always assumed it was pre-appetite demos.  Shadow of your Love is on there, Back off bitch, and pretty much all of what was on appetite.

Crazy story how i came across it.  Was at a youth group dance at the local parish and i asked the DJ if she had November Rain (this was December 1993).  She said she only had one GNR cd, but she would see if it was on there.  a litle while later she told me that she had the song and it would play it next.  What she played was this version of the song.  I rushed right over to her was like - "Where did you get this?"  She said she didn't remember!  She gave the cd to me....it has a pic of the band on the front and a close up pic of izzy on the back with 13 or so song track listing.  She must have seen it in my eyes that there was no chance I was going home without this cd, bc she just looked at me and smiled and said "You can have it."   I'll never forget that and seeing this today reminded me of what it was like being 15 at the youth group dance and hearing this when I requested NR.

What I don't have is the piano driven demo?  what is this you say?  it's not on the cd i have.  is that posted anywhere?

I downloaded both demo versions of November Rain a good while back from that Greek website, I didn't realise there was a whole tape of these demos. Anybody out there able to get me a copy or upload it somewhere?

i totally agree, i never liked this version the first time I heard it, shame there are versions around that don't even compare to the masterpiece which was the finished track that appeared on UYI I.  I felt let down by the demo.

I disagree, it's always good to hear songs in development, sure it doesn't have the sound quality of the finished product but its a demo of a beautiful song and there's alot of emotion coming out of those demos. Give them another listen, there's alot to be appreciated from them. The UYI version is a masterpiece but you can't be disappointed by the demo. To me that's the GNR I discovered back in '88, a raw, skin and bones band. Although I still love the music after Appetite and Lies, I felt some of the music was over worked. First time I ever heard November Rain on UYI I was listening to it thinking..'what the fuck is this?'...I thought the wrong tape was put in the cover but I loved it as soon as the vocals kicked in

I've heard that this acoustic version is the long fabled Sweet Lorraine.  I can't confirm or deny it without solid proof but I do have a vinyl record from the eighties that has this version on it listed as Sweet Lorraine.
