Title: Coheed And Cambria
Post by: Evolution on December 20, 2005, 01:06:14 PM
Has anyone got their new album " Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness"? I understand their albums make up a 4 part story so are they best bought in order? Does the new album contain songs as awesome as Welcome Home and The Suffering?

Any help appreciated.

Fuck!

What does this band sound like?  Are they popular over your way?

Some parts Queen, some Rush and a little Dream Theatre with more poppy vocals?

They aren't all that known over here at all.

Anyone else on this board like these? Ages ago i heard the track "A Favor House Atlantic" and i loved the qwirkyness too it but new it was something different. At this time i bought their album "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3". Dudes this is an amazing album. Plays out like a story, the guitar riffs are simply stunning. They are just a band on their own they sound like no-one else. Their latest album titled " Good Apollo Im Burning Star Volume One" is obviously better produced and is just as good if not better than their previous album.

Tracks to listen to
Welcome Home - A MUST!
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth : 3
The Velourium Camper II: Backend of Forever
The Suffering

Well, I'm over 30 and I've been a fan since "Second Stage Turbine Blade" first came out.  Seen them live as well, and they're simply phenominal musicians.  I even went so far as to buy one of Claudio's graphic novels, as well as the first few issues of the comic, and I *still* can't make much sense of the story he's trying to tell.  An amazing band, though, and fantastic music all around.  "In Keeping Secrets" is still my favorite album so far...

Agreed... but if u really want to make sence of some of these novels go to their fansite.  it has all the story sort of dumbed down... but i cant wait for the fourth cd to come out... i really like second stage and thats prob my fav   : ok:

I'm far from an authority, but I don't think its true.  Claudio recorded a solo album under the name "The Prize Fighter Inferno" (out now) and virtually every other member has multiple side projects and bands.  That said, Coheed is still together, and I believe a new album will be on its way before too long...

yes, bazgnr youre right.  lots of side projects but def not parting ways.  they also have a awesome comic/graphic novel series thing going that tells the story of the albums in a bit more detail, claudio writes all the stories (im not even a comic book type person, but this is really good stuff)

as for claudio's "the prize fighter inferno" i just listened to it last night for the 1st time, didnt care for it all.  sounds like the very early stuff before they were coheed & cambria and were called Shabutie.  as far as coheed goes my favorite album is stilll def "in keeping secrets of silent earth"  when i heard this album i couldnt stop listening too it for almost a year.

second stage turbine blade has some really great tracks on it and was probably the best album of its time that hardly anyone knew about.  there latest album that came out last year i felt was okay but didnt live up too the high mark that they set for the 1st two albums, but still some solid tracks.

i seen coheed & cambria live four times and they put on an awesome show, cant wait til they get back to the states : ok:

anyone not familiar with them, here's some recomended songs to give a try:

three evils
devil in jersey city
everything evil
neverender
the camper velourium 1: faint of hearts

Zakas80 - I just listened to "Inferno" as well, and while it's a far cry from standard Coheed material, there are some songs I really like.  And you're right on with the Shabutie comparison, especially since some of the Inferno songs were recorded as long as 7 years ago.  Claudio's got quite the vision...

I picked up one of the graphic novels at a show a few years back, and, to be honest, I can follow the story better just w/ the music.  I really had very little idea what the hell was happening in the book.

And I totally agree with you about Second Stage Turbine Blade...a great album for its time.  It sounds poorly recorded now, or at least in comparison to "In Keeping Secrets," but a great record that still holds up well.  It's definitely a challenge to top those first two records...

Oops.  Spoke too soon.  From MTV news:

"The rumors are true: Coheed and Cambria have lost their rhythm section. The band has confirmed that drummer Josh Eppard and bassist Mic Todd have left the band. They've since been replaced by bassist Matt Williams ? who used to play with Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez in the pre-Cambria outfit Jumblehead ? and Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Chris Pennie. There's no word yet on whether Pennie's addition will be permanent, but both Pennie and Williams are expected to work with the rest of Coheed on material for the band's forthcoming album. ..."

So, while they haven't broken up, some big changes have taken place.  Too bad, but I'm sure there were significant reasons behind it all...

New album is amazing, Mother Superior is already a classic, just a beautiful, epic song. Good to see that the "less prog" sound didn't mean "less epic".

I'm cautiously optimistic.  I'm not a fan of the first single, so I'm hoping the rest of the album will really deliver.
