Title: Is Riyadh going to be on the album?
Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on November 01, 2006, 03:26:17 PM
I am curious because they played it in 2000, once or twice in 2002, and it was always on the set list options in 2002 and it still is now. Plus Fortus said it was one of the A listed songs. So  I wonder if this means it made the album. I really love the song and really want to hear the studio version but I would rather have it be a b side on the single because I waint as many new songs as possible. That is why I also hope CITR doesnt make the first album

Wouldn't be surprised. Incredibly underrated. A studio version would certainly turn around alot of critics. Then again, there are so many great songs to choose from, but I?'m positive it will be included on one of the albums.

Why would you want catcher in the album? WE already have a studio cut of it. Look at it like this. Would you rather have CITR that we already have or would you rather have an unreleased song like The general that we ?have never heard?

I sure hope so. I'm going to be really dissapointed if it doesn't make the final cut. :P

Brain kicks ass in the drums in that song!!!
it's amazing.

i think a studio version will do justice to the song, too =)

I sure hope so, it's my fav along with Better. Fuckin' rocks.

Plus Fortus said it was one of the A listed songs.
When/where did he said that?

Incredibly underrated. A studio version would certainly turn around alot of critics.
I've been always saying that. I even made a version of Rhiad only with guitars (http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=33049.msg690665#msg690665) to show people how awesome is the instrumental - and it doesn't have drums, but it's one of the best things on the track.

i know what you mean... but catcher (see catcher thread) is along with "better" my favorite gnr song... so i want a studio version, not the unmixed low-fi demo; i also think that catcher as a single could make the album a real success in the mainstream charts. an for "the general": next to "prostitute", "seven", "thyme", "this i love" and "sorry" the track i'm longing the most to hear. and rhiad: know that dizzy said it was just  a try-out track.

I think it will be on Chinese. I don't think any 2nd album songs would be on the potential setlist. He already has enough tracks floating around-more than he wants obviously :peace:.

I think it's taking a lot for granted to say that the version of CITR that we have is anything close to a final mix. By your logic, none of the leaks we have should go on the album, but for people who haven't downloaded these songs, it will all be a surprise. That's why patience is a virtue! : ok:

I don't think it'll be on CD - But maybe on one of the follow ups. Still, its presence on the setlist is certainly debatable.

I like the song, but I'd rather not have it on the album - Unless Axl severely overhauled the vocal melody and lyrical structure.

Either way, I'd like to hear it in the studio... it's a good song with good lyrics... I think it will be on CD though because it's in their setlist options...

not to be redundant from what other people said, but given that its been in the setlist possiblities for two tours now, it would be really bizzare if it wasnt on the album....i liked the live versions id heard but would def. hope to hear a more sophsticated studio version.

This is just as silly as the "could prostitute be the first single" thread you started.

That's why you shouldn't listen to leaks! :hihi:

I'd love to hear a studio version, and hear how its changed. And for the record, I haven't listened to any of the new songs since a month and a half after the leaks, just so they'll sound fresh and new on the album. I'm not going to nit pick the tracklist now, I just want A tracklist.

i can't understand why people like this song so much.. the lyrics aint nothing special IMO, just a bunch of "ah oh ah:s" and a very nasal voice of axl, no rasp.. it could be much better with other lyrics maybe but right now it's nothing special for me.. i like silkworms far more compared, that song has cocky and also cool lyrics.. it's kinda unique it it's "shape" really cool sound, drumming and riffs.. and you can get your aggressions out listening to it

Dizzy *maybe* said that quite some time ago.

I say *maybe* because, as far as I remember, that interview with Dizzy were mixed up with some stuff wrote by the guy who posted, so I dunno what was true there.

I'm with you on prefering Silkworms - As messy as it sounds, it certainly has a clear "shape," while Rhiad, as aggressive as it is, doesn't really have much structure to it.

That said, we haven't heard the song in roughly 4 or 5 years, so who knows what it sounds like now.

I've got a feeling that Riyadh will appear as a B side to the first single what ever that is, probably a live version to boot. If they are planning to release 3 singles from CD only better will be an A side from whats in the public domain to date, the other two will be unheard to date songs. ?

Better is my bet for the first single, loads of people have heard /like/love it and should sell enough copies to get the word out that good music is still coming out of the GnR camp, plus they have lots of live stuff to cobble a video together, with it. The next 2 to drop like I said will be new 'a' sides I also have a feeling that by having Better as the first single, the wrinkles have been ironed out for live performances, nailing it every time, not just on stage but off stage at the mixing desk/lighting desk. ?May seem a lazy option, but a sensible one.

I hope it's on the album. I always thought it was a cool track. They may have worked on it extensively as well at this point--who knows, it may not even sound like we remember.

I've asked this question before. Is there even such thing as a "B-Side"? With itunes and electronic media, do singles even come at as mini-CD's with multiple tracks. I haven't seen those since U2 made a mockery of the format.

As for the post, it doesn't even qualify as speculation - it is a fantasy world lodged in the deepest corner of your mind.

Snap!

I hope Riyadh will make the upcoming Portland show and a future show in brazil.
I really do because I know people who're really in love with this song will be in attendance at the shows. Altho they will be happy with whatever set as far as the shows are good. And I not even being at these places won't be disappointed either way. Just a wish.
Please please play Riyadh for my fellow fans at the rosegarden.  :peace:

But they have rehearsed and are playing lots of songs that we know arent on CD. And they played Dont Cry, and i think 1 or 2 others, a few years before they were released. and shadow of your love never made it to an album.

I'd like that to be a hit and a known classic, not something that only us nerds know! Put CITR on the album...too good to be obscure.

Having seen them do Ridyah/Rhiad.. however it's spelt, I can confirm the song is much better live than when heard on MP3 : the studio version will, no doubt, far out strip the live recordings we've heard so far. I hope they can find place for it on the album, as it's the only one of the new songs they've played live I haven't actually heard a soundboard or FM broadcast version of.  (the Osaka earpiece mix doesn't count).

I'm talking about Rhiad.  The songs sucks and I am a huge GN'R fan.  It reminds me of My World.  Those are the two GN'R songs I don't like.

The fact that you don't like those songs doesn't mean they suck! I think Mike Clink said that UYI is the good, the bad and the ugly of GN'R....

Slash himself said that UYI is GN'R version of the Beatles "White Album", because of the diverse styles on it... I fully agree on that.

"Rhiad" is a perfect example of that too... even though this is a new incarnation of GN'R. Why? 'Cause Axl IS GN'R!!!
