Title: Re: Neemo's Greatest Movie of All-Time Survivor (The Best of the 2000's: Top 5) Post by: pilferk on November 01, 2006, 11:18:09 AM Well, you don't need to do the 80's. Just appoint "The Goonies" as the winner and move on.
The 90's would be interesting. The 70's....slim pickens there...though, luckily, Superman was made in 1978. The 50's and 60's would be TOUGH, that's for sure. I'm in if you have enough interest. Too much shit in this decade. Thats why there was low interest. Bring on another decade!Well, you don't need to do the 80's. Just appoint "The Goonies" as the winner and move on. The 80's would be the best decade. Alot of great stuff. I highly doubt the Goonies would win.The 70's....slim pickens there.. Are you kidding?? :nervous: Apocalypse Now? Texas Chainsaw Massacre? The Godfather? Foul Play? Up in Smoke? The list goes on and on......I agree though. The 90's would be a good one. I highly doubt the Goonies would win. This Is Spinal Tap would definitely win. :hihi: Keep it going, Neemo. I never participated in this one because I hadn't seen a lot of the movies that made it to the list. Just appoint "The Goonies" as the winner and move on. The 80's would be the best decade. Alot of great stuff. I highly doubt the Goonies would win.Sorry, that was an attempt at humor.....though, I'll admit, Goonies is probably my favorite popcorn flick of all time. The 70's....slim pickens there.. Quote Are you kidding?? :nervous: Apocalypse Now? Texas Chainsaw Massacre? The Godfather? Foul Play? Up in Smoke? The list goes on and on...... There are some good movies stashed in there (you forgot Star Wars! :) ), for sure.? But, and this is just MHO, there are just less of them in the '70's than in any other decade I can think of.? Some of the good ones are amazingly good (I actually think The Godfather wins that decade, not Superman...another lame attempt at humor), but, by and large, I look at the 70's as a "less good" decade for cinema compared to the 50's, 60's, 80's, and even the 90's.? Maybe I just need some enlightenment to more good 70's movies. I'd say the best movies. Do we have to follow the IMDB again to determine what constitutes a movie? Title: Re: Neemo's Greatest Movie of All-Time Survivor (The Best of the 2000's: Top 5) Post by: Neemo on November 02, 2006, 08:34:31 AM the only reason we used the IMDB was to determine genres...so if we don't bother with genres then we won't have to use it anymore

Similar to the 80's in the sense that there are gems buried in a pile of shit. I am not a fan of 50's and 60's films. A few from the 60's, but definitely not the 50's. Although I do like a movie from the 30's called Freaks. : ok: alright so do we wanna do decades? or just the best ones, like everybody nominate 15? In my opinion, we should do like the best 15-20 movies from each decade. Screw genres, although I would hate to see a great horror movie get overlooked.Title: Re: Neemo's Greatest Movie of All-Time Survivor (The Best of the 2000's: Top 5) Post by: pilferk on November 02, 2006, 09:45:58 AM I say go with decades and screw genres.
:) The question is, what decade do we start with/include? We certianly have to include the 30's (I mean, c'mon....Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, uncountable other classics) and the 40's (Citizen Kane, I suppose, could just be crowned without a fight...and that's NOT humor :) ). But should we start more modern and head backwards? In any event, whatever we choose a thread should be started for nominiations for that decade. If you think the 2000s was a snoozefest, wait until the 1930's Survivor kicks off. :hihi:Definitely go with something modern. In my opinion, start with the 90's and go backwards. Although I do like a movie from the 30's called Freaks. : ok Oh, the 60's were awesome. ?My Fair Lady, the Aparment, West Side Story, Lawrence of Arabia, In the Heat of the Night, Oliver, Midnight Cowboy, the Sound of Music...and that's just from the pool of Oscar Winners. Outside of the Oscar winners you've got Bonnie and Clyde, ?Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf, Rosemary's Baby, Goldfinger, ?The Hustler, The Good, The Bad, and The ?Ugly, ?The Graduate, ?Dr. Strangelove, 2001, Cape Fear, ?The Miracle Worker....I could go on and on. The 50's were not quite as good, but you had Rear Window, Night of the Hunter, On the Waterfront, Kurasowa's best film Rashomon, ?12 Angry Men, ?All about eve, ?The Day the Earth Stood Still, ?Vertigo, An American in Paris, The Greatest Show on Earth, From Here to Eternity, Marty, Around the World in 80 days, Gigi, Ben-Hur, and The Bridge on the River Kwai. ?There's LOTS more too. Gotta love old movies. :) Title: Re: Neemo's Greatest Movie of All-Time Survivor (The Best of the 2000's: Top 5) Post by: Neemo on November 02, 2006, 10:28:01 AM i'm thinking that we'll each nominate 15...and work backwards through the 80's and 70's then once we hit 60's well do everything from 1969 back to the beginning of the big screen...how does that sound?
