What exactly are you trying to burn?

If it is a folder of VOB files it doesn't need to be converted, you just need software to burn it.

It also depends on your standalone player.  Most new ones can handle different video types without converting them.

I don't think standalones play WMV

Most new ones will play AVI, I just burn my AVI files as data to CDs and they play

NER) 7 is what I have and you can convert files to DVD, that are in many formats, some things take a bit longer , well maybe a lot longer to burn depending on your cp speed, ram and such. But as Bandta said many stand alone players are capible of playing avi, from just a data disc. BUt in my experience, playing to many of those kinda dvds sees to fuck them up as Im on my 7th DVD stand alone player in 4 yrs. And I didn't hit it with a hammer! :hihi:

I think you have to find out if your DVD player plays Divx format. If yes, it will play most of the .AVI and .MPEG files, and you won't need to convert them to .VOB files ... just burn it as a DATA DVD (DVD ISO)... use Nero Burning Rom 7 !! Why don't you use a DVD+RW to test it ?? But don't forget to finalize the DVD or it won't work ...

But if you want to make sure it will play at any DVD player you'll have to convert it to .VOB (Audio_TS and Video_TS folders) and you can do that with DVD LAB PRO or DVD COMPOSER, but as far as i know they are shareware softwares...
With them, you can make Menus, etc ...
someone said you can covert it with NEro, but i'm not sure ... if it's really possible, then it would be easier because you won't need DVD LAB ...

that's it ...

I think you can convert with Nero as well-

Here is a list of standalone equipment that can handle DivX

Jazjme-too funny I have gone through 3 DVD players in 3 years myself

Right now I am using a Philips DVP-642

It plays anything I throw in there pretty much-

Buying a compatible standalone might be cheaper than all the software you may need to do conversions and also when you do convert there is loss of quality-
