Some might call call them instrumental jams. I call them "Axl breaks." It's 90 minutes into the Guns N' Roses show, and we're already on our fourth instrumental. And that doesn't count the musical noodling as they move around the piano and whatnot. And these aren't even all rock instrumentals. Several of them are blues. Blues! At a GNR show! I think they used to burn people at the stake for less than that. After each instrumental, Axl comes out in a brand new outfit and sings a few more songs. Then it's blues-jam time again. Whatever. I guess Axl just doesn't have the stamina like he used to. He still sounds pretty good, sure, but sometimes he's struggling to be heard over the band. And he can't hit all those notes quite like he used to. Still, all those instrumentals slow down things. I came to a Guns show to rock. For two hours, at least. Straight. No blues jams. No costume changes. No drug breaks. Come on, Axl. Can't you wait at a little while longer between bathroom stops? Wow, Swing--funny, you (the paid by Weiland, or Weiland VR anti-Axl blogger) put that post on. How deceiving. Here is the guy's take, to give those looking for the truth, some context: Judging from all the clothing on stage tonight, a lot of women in the Guns N' Roses audience probably need some support. And I'm not talking about the financial kind. Women keep flinging bra after bra at Axl's feet. Even a thong or two. Black ones, white ones, pink ones. Once, three bras fell in front of Axl at the same time. The head Gunner picked them up, grinned and twirled them playfully. Then he kept on singing. It's nice to know he still has his mojo. And the one prior: I just saw Axl Rose snake-dancing. I'm not sure, but I think my life is now complete. Guns N' Roses are rocking Germain Arena as I type, wailing on "It's So Easy" and exploding pyrotechnics left and right. Awesome. We feared that Axl might not come on until 11:30 p.m. or later, but here it was at 11:04. Axl didn't want to make us wait. Axl loves us. Of course, that's still more than an hour after Papa Roach left the stage. But who cares when Axl sounds this darn good? He's looking trim and fierce in his leather jacket, shades and red microphone with matching shoes. The audience went absolutely nuts when those first guitar notes from "Welcome to the Jungle" started and the arena got dark. Then Axl sprinted on stage and started screaming and hollering like no one else can. "You know where you are?" he asked. We know: We're in the jungle. And loving it. Title: Re: tonight updates Post by: Continental Drift on October 28, 2006, 12:57:28 AM The guy is obviously a moron.... Slash left GN'R b/c Axl wanted to move them off "blues-based rock".

No rants. No riots. Just good 'ol rock 'n' roll. Axl Rose and his new version of Guns N' Roses played for two hours and 10 minutes tonight, plowing through most of the band's hits and sprinkling in several new songs from the upcoming "Chinese Democracy." You got Axl dueting with Sebastian Bach on "My Michelle." Then the band dusted off that old chestnut, "I Used To Love Her, But I Had To Kill Her." And then Axl pounded the piano on the anthemic "November Rain" -- although it's still weird hearing someone besides Slash take that guitar solo. There's no Slash in this GNR. And no Izzy. And no other members of the original group, besides Axl. Even so, the new band managed to do justice to those familiar songs. And sometimes I even forgot it wasn't Slash on stage at all. Sure, Axl's voice isn't as powerful as the Axl of the '80s. And the instrumentals between songs got a bit tedious. But Axl packed a lot of energy into his performance tonight, wailing and snake-dancing and running all over the place. When it was all over, giant leaf blowers sprayed red confetti over the rocking masses -- all to the tune of "Paradise City." Then Axl threw his wireless red microphone into the audience and called it a night. Many fans undoubtedly worried that the fickle Axl Rose might not show up at all tonight. Then he played for more than two hours. Unheard of. It was a great show. And one lucky fan got a one-of-a-kind souvenir. ------------------------------- another good review. much better than 2002 Title: Re: tonight updates Post by: T_Roxie on October 28, 2006, 06:39:40 AM The guy is obviously a moron.... Slash left GN'R b/c Axl wanted to move them off "blues-based rock". I was watching an old gnr vid the other day when slash said "we're gonna do a little blues jam" :confused:Title: Re: tonight updates Post by: Dr. Blutarsky on October 28, 2006, 10:00:57 AM Give him a break, he's used to covering acts such as Tony Orlando & Johnny Mathis! :hihi:

Slash left GN'R b/c Axl wanted to move them off "blues-based rock". Axl wanted to do a more "traditional Appetite Style Record" but Slash prevented that.... according to Axl's Kurt Loder interview Axl changes his story all the time Title: Re: tonight updates Post by: ppbebe on October 28, 2006, 02:06:23 PM It's depends on what you understand by "traditional Appetite Style Record".
Read on. read through the interview. Title: Re: tonight updates Post by: Nighteyes on October 28, 2006, 02:28:02 PM i always got the impression that Slash prevented Axl from doing a Appetite record because Slash wasn't in the band,so Axl couldn't do one ???
