Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Ok guys here it goes.....

So, I got to the arena at 4:30 and was about the tenth in line. After a long 2 hours, 45 minutes, they let us in...
They took my brother's disposable camera away, but they didn't find mine... We went right to the floor, and there was almost no one on the floor yet, and we walked right up to the front railing, almost center stage. Before we knew it, 5 minutes later, the floor was still practically empty and Bach started with Slave To The Grind. It was an energetic performance by Bach but I wasnt impressed at all by his bandmates. Next thing we knew, Papa Roach was on and that set took forever. The whole band had lots of energy, but I wasn't very into it. I just pretended to when the lead singer came down RIGHT in my face!  ;D So Papa Roach finished, and they set the stage for Guns. The wait began...

People were talking crap and saying how Axl is always late and people were chanting "BULLSHIT!"...
Finally at 11:30 the lights went down and that intro started! The shadows of the band members walked on stage and the Jungle riffs started! Axl came out in that awesome black leather jacket "DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE FUCK YOU ARE!" and the band kicked into the first 4 songs without a break (Jungle, ISE, Browstone, LALD)....
At the end of Jungle Robin dove right on me and I was holding him up while he finished the song! The Blues was fucking amazing, one of the highlights of the night! Better was also probably my favorite part of the night, and no one up front was singing except for me and my brother, but they seemed interested and enjoyed the new songs! It reeked of weed and Axl joked "I smell that aroma, I'm sure its just for medicinal purposes only though" and also no one took the covers off of Pitman's keyboards so Axl said "preparing for a rain strom Chris" and then Chris said "Well we do have a song called November Rain...." and then they went into a piano jam, and November Rain which was just fantastic!

Ron used the fretless on his Nightrain solo which was just fucking fantastic! Everyone was singing along to his Don't Cry solo also, and it was great!

Robin solo's with Frank on drums was the weirdest thing, and coolest I've ever wittnessed. Robin was bouncing around, throwing himself all over the place like a mad man, hopping, skipping, everything and anything you can imagine! I was in awe! Richard's solo was good but I was looking forward to hearing Beautiful.

Some little things I remember (I'm probably forgetting alot of stuff but oh well!).....
Ron and Robin were hanging out backstage watching Bach's set and I waved at them and Ron gave me a salute...
During Nightrain Robin was on the pit where security stands under the stage and kept tripping and going all over the place, really into it, and security kept holding him up and litterally held him up for the last 2-3 minutes of the song! I also saw Robin almost trip and fall during Jungle. When they came back on right before the encore, Robin was really pumped up and started pouding on the symbols of the drumset. Also durring the introductions, he didn't have his guitar and was just dancing and grooving! Frank was good, but I was surprised to not see Brain there! I love how Richard slams the guitar, its out of this world!

I was on the very front the whole time, this was my first concert, and the best day of my life!

I know not the greatest review, but I figured I'd write one anyway....

Thanks for posting.  That's almost exactly the kind of shirt I thought of when I heard the comments about Ron's wardrobe.  Guess he's compensating for no bumblefoot guitar!

Great review Efish. ?I was standing right where the bald security guy in the yellow shirt was, he was great, kept giving me water all night. ?When the two security guards were holding up Finck, it was just a great moment, I was laughing so loud. ?We didn't get there until 6:30 and had an hour wait in the line, lucky for us, we made it right to the very front of the stage, leaning on the barrier, because some people walked away while Bach was performing. ?We didn't move, not once, all night. ?It was an awesome show and I hope I can get that very front, middle, slightly to the right spot again because Finck and Fortus liked hanging out there!

i think Ron has got a plan dressing wise, Start of the European tour = Normal rock clothes, Start of the US tour= bright shirts, End of US Tour = Naked!  :hihi:

Well, it was a disposable one...
And I stuck it in my pants and tightented my belt...
My brother had a disposable too, and the metal detector went off on him and it didnt go off on me, I just walked right in. ;D ;D
They seemed to be checking pretty hard for camera's but when i got in i saw ALOT of people next to me with digital camera's snapping pictures, I even saw Axl smiling for a picture from someone a few people away from me! And security down there didnt care about photo's... Its only a problem to get it in the venue....

Yeah.. they can be pretty tight.. like at Inland for me.. they wouldn't let me bring a friggin' pen into the venue.. a pen?!  Anyhow, they were allowing disposable cameras ONLY at that show, so I'm sure many people got pictures as they were even selling them..

Great review and pics though.. sounds like a blast!

With the setlist being the same though, it still leaves me wondering what the HELL is the purpose of this tour, it sure isn't to promote the NEW Album.

FS, im sick of hearing people bitch about the setlist ....... Im sure axl doesnt choose and play shows for all us forum ppl to get excited over what songs they play, he plays them for the PEOPLE ATTENDING THE GIG .... ? most of them will never have heard the 06 GnR live, and it will be a NEW experience for them....

So stop bitching about the set list not changing and be happy that they're actually touring ..... :rant:

Exactly. This is the first US tour in 4 years - Axl isn't going to decide the setlist for the benefit of people who aren't even there who happen to know the setlists of other shows they weren't at either. Bands don't really tour to promote albums these days either, they tour to make money - the days are long gone since an album and a concert ticket cost around the same. GNR are touring because they can.

Well, they have only played a few shows so far in the US...Don't forget that not everyone is as informed as you and I, they don't hang out on message boards...One more thing - it's Guns N' Roses NOT the Grateful Dead!!!! ?Who says they have to switch up the setlist every night? I think they are right on target...Now, if CD comes out and they do a NEW tour this summer, then return to my town and play the same shit - THEN we'll have something to discuss.

So E-fish you made it to the first show, nice review. What was the volume level like? I went to see Clapton and left feeling like I play the Radio in my car louder than that. Ridiculous. I would hope with three guitar players that is not an issue? Are you still going to Estero?

Yeah, the volume was LOUD! Actually, from right up front, at times, Axl's voice sounded quit weird. Same for the other 2 singers in the opening acts, I dont know.. it was sounded like a massive helium voice, but then it just got better and he sounded like the norm...

 I was not planning on going to this show but you never know. Still looking for my other tickets (tickets.crap) before I make reservations. I took my little brother to see GnR almost twenty years ago and we had a blast. ?

They probably got ?Ax?s mix adjusted as the night went on, especially if it was loud. He probably does not like to much reverb so they err the other way. His voice is unusual, quieter than you would expect when he sings. ? An empty venue (sound check) and a full venue sound different.

 Plus he had been hanging out in Miami. Sex steals your power...jk, That?s what my first teacher in Dallas 1988 (first time I saw GnR) always told me about singing, he may have had his own agenda but then again he told me 99.9% of the world doesn?t give a fuck about anything but themselves. Over the years I have reflected on that and found it to be true in way to many situations. When I was nineteen I didn't believe it, as I get older I see he was right even if I still don?t want to believe it. ?Good thing not everyone on the planet is as old and jaded as me! Glad you had a good time? Are you taking your brother to the next show?

Its gonna be one hell of a night! You should deffinetly come down, I wouldnt miss a chance to see GNR when they are so close ever... Who knows when the next time will be?..........

I am patient, probably to some kind of twisted degree, still have not listened to the leaks waiting for the album... want to digest it all in one sitting. Want to see all the dimensions at once not piece meal innuendo that is undecipherable.  If I go to this show I will look for you. If your older brother looks as much like you as your younger brother you should be easy to find! If I don?t see you have a blast, I will be sitting on the stairs by the mailbox waiting for tickets.crap to send my tickets (B.O moment) a full blown anxious episode?. while you shall be rocking out again?. with your brothers. It is a small venue it should be a good show. You might not get to see that again?.if things snowball in a positive way. (isn?t it about time?)

sounds like a really shitty concert...very tame for gnr standards... opening nights always suck for gnr they need time to warm up and get sweet into the tour and play diff. songs...more rowdy.... more momentum etc...

overall the crowd seems really gay....

ever heard of honesty?....the concert looked fucking gay from his review.... If it looked sweet I WOULD SAY PROPS....but it looked and sounded pretty bad...gnr is capable of 500% more....

I'll take the word of someone who was there over the word of someone who wasn't.
