Title: Chinese Democracy Tour playing CD songs?
Post by: phi_kai_phi on October 24, 2006, 02:28:41 AM
I know that there was some kind of "get in the ring" tour in the past and/or "use your illusions" tour before the use your illusions albums came out.....

Which tours came before the album?  Also, the ones that did play before the album came out... did they play mostly songs from the new, unreleased album or from the past?

Maybe that's an indicator about whether or not the "CD Tour" will play mostly new songs or old songs like usual.

i saw them play at London on the 'get in the ring' tour.? They opened with 'Perfect crime' & played alot of UYI songs even though the only official release at the time was 'You Could Be Mine'.

.......Gotta add that it was the most amazing show i've ever seen!?

This is a dead horse topic, however, it's appropiate to bring it back.

Back in 91, in may when the tour kicked off, GNR would played a shit load of songs from the illusions before they even came out. I've seen w few vids from back in the day and they would even start with Right Next Door to Hell. Then, they'd through in Perfect Crime, Dust N' Bones, 14 years, Bad Obsession, Double Talking Jive...

In 2006, There were at least 6-7 new songs played in Madrid; Madagascar, IRS, TWAT, CD, Better, The Blues...I don't know what's gonna be like in this fall tour, but I have a feeling we may get a few surprises. I hope.

With the album coming out this year (perhaps this month) they definately play CD songs after the release... Before the release I expect the single to be played and perhaps one or two songs we haven't heard so far...

Axl himself said they'd add more new songs later on.

This was before the September shows.

Thats depending on when the album drops though. I really doubt he will introduce ANY more new songs until at least CD drops, which I'm glad of. I don't want to hear the WHOLE album before I've actually got it in my hands.

With later, I think he meant later in the tour. Meaning, not at the September shows...

We'll see how it starts tonight and then we'll know a bit more.

Yeah but he said as the tour goes on, meaning not necessarily at the beginning.
And with the album being released "at some point during the tour" you could/should assume it is unlikely to hear anything new until the album drops.

I hope I'm wrong, but it's highly unlikely he would play an unknown song before the album is released as the only truely "new" songs they've done live in 5 years are the leaks that people have heard.  CITR is therefore, the most likely, but I don't think we'll get anything until the album drops.

i dont think its wise to begin this tour just like they ended the european tour...they should give something new to us...and maybe add 1 music at the time, till the album cames out, and then most songs will be from CD

I'd love to see Axl on the Piano for that one

Yeah but the fact that people think they'll play (almost) the new album in full concerns me. ?I don't expect that at all.

Any band of the stature and age of GnR does not go out an play the new album in it's entirety (or anywhere near it) live whether it's released or not. ?

I mean they will play 6/7/8 at a push, but not any more at one gig. ?Maybe they will play all the songs of an album over a number of dates, but only 6-8 at anyone gig. ?People wanna hear the classics of a band of 20 years old, sure die hards and that will want to hear the new songs, but you need a balance to keep the casual fan from going home disappointed.

The old songs they will play will probably change as will the new songs on a gig to gig basis, but the percentage of classics to new songs will probably remain pretty similar.

I for one, think that it'd be strange to have a "Chinese Democracy" tour without a bunch of CD songs.  Even after CD comes out they'll still play old songs to keep old fans happy, but why would they name it the CD tour if it wern't a bunch of CD songs?

I mean... they could just as well call the tour something else and have a "Chinese Democracy Tour" after the album comes out.

I suppose we'll find out after the first few shows....

EDIT: and by "a bunch of new songs" I mean some songs we havn't heard yet.

In 2002 they did a "Chinese Democracy" tour. I still have a shirt from the show that says "Chinese Democracy Tour" on it... too funny.

Wow. Didn't know that.  Do you think that the 2002 CD tour was a plan that went wrong and now they're going to try to do the same plan but right this time?

Iron Maiden is playing the whole of their new album on their current tour - and not only that, but they are playing it all through to open the show. The hardcore fans love it, but a lot of people are leaving disappointed. I would think the same would happen if GNR plays all of CD, a minority would be ecstatic but a lot more people may give up on the band.

You guys have to remember in 1991 it wasn't easy to find bootlegs or download new songs.

If there are any new songs played tonight, chances are we'll have them within hours after the show.

In 1991 we probably would have never heard the new songs played before the album's release until the album was actually released.

Im a big fan of Maiden, and as I said in some Maiden forum's, my hat goes off for their courage, and not wanting to be known for something old, but something new as well :)

Given the recent press release and language on the new GNR site, I think they will stick to the European set lists for at least the first few shows on the U.S. Tour.  They also haven't had a warm-up in about a month, so now is not the time to throw curve balls into the mix.

In due time they will add new songs.

Well.... they havn't warmed up by playing shows.  If they havn't been warming up by playing shows maybe they felt they needed extra time to rehearse and warm up in private.....

Why private warm-ups?  So they can release new, awesome material for the first time at the CD tour!

We will know the answer in a few hours...................

I think it would be smart to play 4-5 old songs first, then play some new material in between. Maybe play 2-3 new songs in addition to what they already play ( Maddy, IRS, ETC)

I saw GnR three times during their European tour and I would feel cheated if the US got new songs that we didn't get to hear. Just because America needs more convincing does not mean us Europeans deserve less!
But I still had an awesome time at all three performances :peace:
