Title: RHCP tonight in Boston-GN'R mention (funny)
Post by: GeraldFord on October 21, 2006, 02:02:38 AM
I saw the RHCP tonight in Boston and they were late (show was to go on on at 7:30 and they took the stage around 10:30). Anthony says "sorry we're late, we've been hanging around Axl Rose."? :hihi:

The Peps hung out with GNR at some show during the European tour this Summer. Peps were set to play that same venue the day after or before I believe... and they were seen socializing with GNR.

Axl has numerous times said how he looooves their music.

Nice to see Axl picking up with among others, the Peps and Lars Ulrich (when they were in Copenhagen for the Roskilde show); as they say.. time heals many things.

Yep, that's true, peps were at the backstage for the gnr concert.

Called TD Banknorth Garden now. It was a full house, in fact they added a second show (which was two weeks ago) when tonight's (last nights now) show sold out.

And I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that GN'R opened up for RHCP. In LA maybe?

Great show. I know Axl is a RHCP fan. GN'R opened for them in the late 80s.

RHCP didn't become popular until the early 1990s. GN'R hit it big in the summer of '88, so more than likely RHCP were opening for GN'R man.

On one of those VH1 specials, Keidis talks about how jealous he used to be of GN'R when they hit it big. He says something to the effect of, "We've been around just as long or longer, how come we're not hitting it big?" He said it jokingly of course, but those comments indicate that RHCP wasn't (nor did they ever become) a bigger/more popular band than GN'R.

I saw the chilis at earls court in july and was pretty disappointed. No Under The Bridge and they just seemed to jam and mess about for ages(maybe a bit hypocritical with GN'Rs solos). Saw GN'R the friday after in Glasgow and it was miles better.
But the chilis are a good band no question, just live I feel they're a bit over-rated.

well there are many teen people, but in late 80-es and early 90-es in the world of music gnr was the biggest band
RHCP,nirvana, pearl jam was opular in 90-es but they had never been like gnr in his fuckin six years
rhcp, nirvana ,pearl jam have never had tour like uyi
people who istened gnr since 80-es or 90-es know w"about i'm talking"
i remembered in europe 1992 was gunsnroses mania

So no posibility that gnr opened for rhcp,on www.pollstar.comyou can read that gnr 1988 had a tour with aerosmith, and there they said there was a two act tour
1988 gnr opened a couple shows in usa for ironmaiden but 70% of crowd were gnr fans,so axl decided to stop a tour

people you can not imagine what was gnr in these days, how big they were

Maybe, but its still there biggest song (catapulted them big-time in the early nineties). It's like GNR not playing SCOM really. Not a big fan of the chilis but would expect them to play the big numbers which they didnt.

Anyone that says the RHCP's songs sound alike obviously know absolutely nothing about this band.

If u listen to their 80's recordings u would think it was an entirely different band.

RHCP was much more unique than GNR was.  They fused conventional rock, metal, and funk into one tight package of sound, a very unlikely combinationk.  Plus, they've been playing music together as a band for 23 years(with some lineup switches due to death, etc).

also in 1989 The Peppers released Mother's Milk, their first album with Johnny Frusciante.

After the song "Punk Rock Classic" John plays the opening SCOM riff.  He also thanks GNR in the liner notes of the album.

Hey thanks mate! I thought I was right when I posted this on the first page of this thread, but so many people who always think they know better said that no way would this have happened, so I kept quiet until I could find out but you did it for me mate! Cheers!! Mike P.S Someone posted in here that the chilis were not big until the nineties! Umm, you need to know your music a little better my friend! Maybe they got fucking huge in the nineties but they were a massive band in the late eighties as well!! Mike

Saw that you posted this same thing twice. Can't imagine why. There's not any amount of truth to it. You really should look into the Chili's influences. Seeing as the Peps sound exactly like their influences, that would make them un-original.

Don't get me wrong. They're a great band. They've done their fair share for rock. But to say they were/are more unique and original then GNR is just incorrect.
