Title: Live Era - My favorite album.
Post by: polluxlm on October 13, 2006, 06:58:23 PM
One of the reason off course being that it's packed with all of their best songs. The main reason though is how kickass many of the songs sound compared to the album versions.

Rocket Queen - Groovy intro with Slash being Slash. Amazing howl from Axl after the solo. Great vocals on the outro.

Don't Cry - Harder, rougher, better vocals and less overproduced.

Estranged - The live atmosphere suits the song good. Love it when Axl introduces Dizzy.

Nightrain - Extended solo. Ruined the AFD version for me.

Jungle - "Do you know where the fuck you are? You're in the jungle baby. Wake up, time to diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee" Would've loved for that intro to be included on the studioversion. It's simply the hardest, most anticipating intro to a song, ever!

It's Alright - Magic intro to a magic song. Brings back alot of memories.

Patience - I listened to this when smoking pot one time. When the band goes "yeah yeah yeah" on the second part of the song I felt like I had an orgasm. So much feeling, so fucking amazing. The crowds reaction at the end of the first part is also amazing. Better vocals from Axl too.

Paradise City - Axl is on fire, and the harder intro by Slash is incredibly kickass. You just feel like kicking the whole world in the face.

All in all, a great 'live' album. It's actually pretty hard to fathom that Axl pulled this off in the late 90s. What happened?

Only thing missing are versions of Civil War, Locomotive, Dead Horse and Coma. A shame.

It's not a flawless album. The problem lies within the tracklist. 1) Coma should've been on all pressings not just Japan's & 2) Axl stated this was his idea of a Greatest Hits basically, so if that's the case where in the hell is Civil War?

But yeah it's probably one of my favorite albums, and it's definitely GNR's true Greatest Hits collection.

Wasn't a lot of this CD recorded in the studio?

Some. But not near as much as the original rumor.

Basically Axl laid new vocals on the 2nd-half of both Rocket Queen & SCOM.

But other than that, of course there was alot of studio clean up, but primarily if you listen to Live Era, then go back and listen to the originals from the shows the songs were taken from, most of the vocals were identical and unchanged from the original performances.

"You wanted the best. Well, they didn't fuckin' make it. So here's what ya get: from Hollywood: Guns N' Roses!"

Great intro.

tssssssssssssssssss ... It?s great..but Estranged is Fixxed ( don?t start an argument because i will own you al  ! )

Steven ( sober ) should had ben moore involved with the album...3 songs is jsut not good enough...Rocket Queen, It?s so easy..SCOM..and My Michelle..should be taken from the JD - tour....

But otherwise..It?s great..but not a 100% pure Live album

( sorry for the spelling..had a gig today..had a couple of......after )

Estranged is unchanged. It's taken from the 3rd night in Tokyo 1992. The instrumentals might be different, but the vocals are identical.

Great intro.

Yeah I believe that's from Oklahoma 1992.

Wrong, wrong..Listen to how Axl talks before the song in the Tokyo video...It?s the same as the Live era - track...Then listen to Axl voice..Raspy and well...really bad...But listne to the Live Era track ---- > Totaly clean, there is no way the vocals was recorded live...NO!...Exept the Music and when axl says - Ladies and gentlemen dizzy reed.

maybe the intro was taken from the tokyo show and the rest of the song was taken from somewhere else.  its obvious that it could be the case, considering that patience was from two or three different shows put together, right?

The album isn't called live in Tokyo.

Live Era:
They were partly live in a studio.

Try the other way around, the instruments are the same, but Axl's vocals are definitely different. I don't know how you can't hear that. :o

I like the songs on Live Era that haven't got Axl's re-recorded vocals, because I think they sound terrible.

it is a great album, but what the hell is "move to the city" doing on there?!?!?!? a 10 minute version no less???? that could have been civil war and another song like right next door to hell or perfect crime
