Post by: doooodickiebr on October 13, 2006, 08:18:18 AM
Hello all!

I work at a local mall and was taking a smoke break yesterday and was talking to a guy that works at Sam Goody.  I asked him if he knew anything about the cd release date and he told me they're getting flooded with calls for about 2 months now.  He couldn't give me any info except that he was told that pre-orders will receive a really cool DVD with interviews of the new band and clips from the recent european tour(s).

Just thought ya'll might find that cool!!

.....and this is from mygnrforum..

Ok, first of all my apologies if this has already been posted. I'm not a regular here, I had a quick look and couldn't see anything about it. Anyway....

Ok, so we've been hearing rumours of November 21st as Chinese Democracy's long awaited release date. But GN'R insiders shot it down as "there's only so many tuesdays left in the year, and thy picked the wrong one".

Well, I just phoned my local HMV sotre on the off chance that they may have a release date. To be honest, I was just expecting to be laughed at, but the girl on the phone gave me a shock when she said..... Monday November 13th 2006.

That's one week before the supposed release date. Could this be it? It's only 4 and a half weeks away, but HMV don't have anything about it on their website, nor do Amazon. You'd think pre-sales would commence round about now if it is true.

Who knows. But I'm sure if it is true, we'll find out soon enough.

CHINESE DEMOCRACY IS COMING

If a random girl working at some local music store knew of a release date it would have been posted here a week ago.  :hihi:

I still think 13th Nov in europe/14th north america, is the the best possible release date. I dont mind the 21st but...13th makes sense with that rumour we had 2 weeks ago maybe about them playing canada just after the release date. Lets cross our fingers  ;D

I cant speak for all record companies, but i can speak for bestbuy and transworld entertainment (since i work(ed) for them):

the way things work:

once a week these stores get new release lists, it contains the planned release dates for every album they have info on. the date will range from next week all the way to 6 months from now (all depends on weither a date is set). both of these companies are huge, if there was a date they would have it, and i wouldve posted it by now.

presales take time to plan, time to advertise, and time to take orders. this all couldve really be set up without a tentative release date, which again wouldve been released. also presale items tend to be exclusives, i see them doing one with best buy (like most artists) before sam goody (who isnt as strong a chain since bestbuy sold them off). if anything i would imagine them doing a special edition of the album for all stores.

cds come out on tuesday. the stores will recieve them either the week before, or the day before. that is the earliest. no one will have CD before then. if it shows up, again, i would post about it, but by that time we should already know.

all the info to set things up has to pass through to many hands for it not to reach here, and i think that we would know from a more official way before some clerk behind the counter of any record store would. like i said though, ill keep an eye on things and provide direct evidence if i find out anything.

sorry about that. that was a little bit of ranting and i know most people know stuff like that already.

i just wanted to put it out there because people always come up with rediculous rumours that are impossible.

my main point was 1) a release date will come before any promotions, 2) promotions will be known after a release date and while presales are going on and 3) if a store claims to have it behind the counter than it will be in your hands within a weeks time, but by than you should already to aware of a release date.

the only time things like this happen and its very quiet is when a cd is not expected to be a huge release and the store is not receiving a lot of copies. that is the only exception, which i dont see happening here.

CHINESE DEMOCRACY IS COMING

Lastfm support this, on the bio section of GNR it says
"
Guns N' Roses have successfully toured in Europe in the Summer of 2006 (their first European tour in over a decade), with dates now lined up for a US tour and a new album called "Chinese Democracy", expected to be released on November 14 2006."

special promotions like that are done all the time. though its usually bonus tracks, or posters, or things like that.

and its different from store to store. when the tools lateralis album came out, if you pre ordered it, transworld would give you a bonus disc of a couple live tracks.

right now if you buy the new audioslave album at best buy you get extra songs also, and when spiderman 2 came out there copies included a third disc of addition bonus material, so you never know how these things will work out, but i guarantee when it does we will have more than one source to confirm it.

You know something norway, you may be correct. Looking at the last two threads that got locked, and Jarmo's comments within them, today may be a very good start to the weekend. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but I've been here for a long time and this looks quite interesting.

I personally am just hoping that if there are any extras they're not exclusive to somewhere like say Best Buy.

Those big ass places never get enough of the extra items and/or can't even find them!

Hmmm...lets see.

Oct 31st is a Tuesday.

The Jacksonville show has been moved to the 31st.

There is going to be a press release about one entire show.

I wonder how those pieces might fit together....

Get the damn PR out already!!

:)

FYI, I'd expect it relatively soon.....it's 9:30 on the West Coast now, so...

PS: I'm completely speculating above and have absolutely no info whatsoever to support that speculation.

Well, with this one, I'll be the first to admit it's less logical, and more wishful, thinking.

But here's hoping.

I highly doubt that management knows the release date and won't say when. I think management knows when they would like it to be out, but that all depends on the mastering. 13 weeks is more than enough for the mastering, and so they know it will be out this year.

There's no ingenious plan!! It's going to be announced, then a few weeks later released.

As for being a "surprise" release?? Kunzerd already debunked the possibilities of that happening on page 1. He hit the nail on the head when he said "It has to go thru many hands to reach the shelves" What with Retail stores ordering they're quantity, production of the CD, CD's being sent to the warehouse, employees of the record company being informed (those that work in the MArketing/Advertising dept creating and selling the ads to magazines and Newspaper circulars, ie. The Best Buy ad in your Sunday paper etc etc...) Shit trickles down, and I'm sure people here work for CD stores (Kunzerd's manager would probably tell him when they are getting the CD, if he knows he's a big enough fan)

Also, it would be such a waste to release it like that, like word of mouth.. The record companies want to make money, ESPECIALLY of this album (to recoup their $13 million or whatever). Plus, first new material in 10-15 years, how can they NOT take advantage of that angle?!

Honestly, I think today's pretty much right out.. Oh well, onto next week. :crying:

Gn'R find it difficult enough finishing an album  ;)
Gn'R find it almost impossible to sort out a decent web site  ;)
It took Gn'R ages to release live albums years ago  ;)
If there is to be a dvd with CD, sure there could be an interview on it, but i bet any live footage will be what we've see already. Not that i believe CD will come with a DVD.

I'm sure, as you said, there is an internal notion within the GNR camp of when they'd ideally like it out, but it's gotta be handed over to the record company to get Pr/marketing rolling.  I'd hope the already have promotional materials ready to go, however.

thanks pasnow, i was beginning to think no one read my mile long post.

but your right, even though we all know gnr does things differently, gnr isnt putting the album out, interscope is, and im sure interscope will want to do everything they can to make back their money, which would be following the usual route for releasing cds, and not going with some sort of surprise release.

also, ive managed music stores before which is why im familar with the routine. currently i do warehouse work at a bestbuy though, and my department stickers every product that comes in and holds it for the following tuesday. everyone knows im looking for this album, if it shows up, ill get a call.

when i know, youll know. but like i said, i highly doubt that itll get to that point before any of us know the official date.

as for an october release for a single: if its being released this year, i totally agree.
