Why? the article refers to him as "Guns N' Roses guitarist"  :rofl: This is hilarious. Everyone ws expecting CD promo to start now and yet an add runs durring the playoffs featuring Slash and the article even goes on to refer to him as Gn'R guitarist. At least there's no false perception out there with who's in the band. Sure NOBDY is going to these shows expecting to see the old band. ::)

im sorry but being on an advert for a VW is a bit more of a sell out than Touring with a band to promote the fact that your back and you mean business. To me Slash was the fucking heavy drugs drink rock and fuckin roll icon not a car salesman. I have always thought Slash is and was great and i still do.

If Axl did the same thing i would think it the same way, he almost did it with GTA but not quite as it was a parody of himself, Axl laughing at Axl.

i love this commercial, i don't care if slash is "selling out." or whatever, its not like he hasnt appeared on many other artists albums and many TV shows too.  its all the same to me, its only selling out if he wants to do it for the money and the money only, i think its a cool concept and he did some good playing.

Sure MJ is (or was) a huge pop star, but from what I understand, Michael wanted a particular guitar style and sound on a couple of songs for the Dangerous album and that's why he wanted Slash. I think Slash said the same thing too, like he thought he was just "flavour of the fuckin month", but when he met up with Michael it was more than that.

And as for Lenny, he wasn't exactly a big mainstream hit until that album that Slash appeared on, so it's not like Slash only played with Lenny because he was already popular.

There used to be a Bon Jovi branded line of Volkswagen Golfs. It was nothing more than a specific option pack on a stock VW Golf III, and a little sticker saying "Bon Jovi" in their signature font next to the model name on the trunk. I really don't like Bon Jovi, but I wouldn't call them sellouts...

i dont see how picking up a couple million dollars for a commercial that slash was ASKED to do, not him on his knees going "please give me a commercial to do for 10,000 bucks please!", is selling out.

Slash is a highly requested pressensce in the music world. Michael Jackson didnt want EVH or Luke or anybody else he wanted Slash. Slash took his money and got to work with a legend and had teh creative freedom to do what he wanted for a song or 2.

Kravitz is Slash's friend so put 2 and 2 together.

So when Slash takes 1 and a half minutes to jam and reveal something really cool (but on really shitty cars) its not selling out

Slash was asked to sit down for like 3 hours and answer questions for Metal: A headbangers journey and said no because they wanted his time for free. But it's alright they had Dio :confused:

How can you not say Bon Jovi are sell-outs? I didn't even know that. They did at least two pathetic commercials. Even in their 80's generic hairmetal heyday they were at least still somewhat rock and roll, then they whored their sound  completely to be pop so little girls would by their albums. Wow, is that you Slash? Someone sure is defensive. Just go and look at the money Velvet Revolver made while touring for 1.5 years, or look at how many albums GNR still sells plus how many albums Contraband sold, Slash still makes money off of each album sold. Thats not even bringing up all the money he made on the UYI tour. You don't see Axl, Izzy, Duff, Dizzy, Matt or even Steven doing lame commercials, why would Slash need to when he was one of the main writers for GNR, meaning he makes alot more money on royalties than Duff, Dizzy, Steven or Matt. Doing commercials is something I expect from an entertainer like Britney Spears, not Slash. I'm all for capitalism but you have to draw the line somewhere and keep your self respect, you obviously wouldn't have a problem with Slash selling Depends diapers or shit like that cause hey you think he's just trying to make a paycheck.

Back in the early days, not to re-hash the past but just pointing out a fact, Slash AND Axl did a few commercials together for Rip magazine that played nonstop on MTV during Headbangers Ball.  I don't see any issue with the guy doing a commercial, some of you are taking this a little over the top.  It's just a freakin' commercial, tons of artists do them for various reasons....

Its not like he did anything goofy to embarrass himself for some money. Not like he was running around dressed up a in a clown suit or anything. He plays his guitar and looks cool doing it. That is pretty much is Slash in a nutshell for the past 20 years. This was just a cool opportunity for him to get some exposure and make a few bucks. Nothing more, nothing less.

All I can say is I think the commercials, are hylarious, and I really loved the slash solo, and even the one from the spinal tap dude. BUt whatever, some people must think that money is everything!

Yes they can do what they want and people can give their opinion of what they did. Don't get me wrong, I love the music Slash has created over the years and love seeing the guy in concert but I don't have to like everything he does and shilling for VW is not how I want to see or remember Slash.

I know it's not such a big deal and it's not the worst commercial one can appear in, but come on, this is about the principle. If for one don't like it when anyone compromises their integrity, especially when they got more money than one could fit in a living room.

This won't effect my relationship to the man's music, but I think it atleast deserves a "that sucked" comment.

What fans like yourself dont seem to comprehend is that youre in no position to decide what Slashs "integrity" is comprised of.  You dont know what he considers "selling out."  Some people believe making music videos or licensing music is selling out.  Thats their call to make, not yours.

I have no desire to decide anything for anyone. I'll leave that to the government and women.

However, I have the right to decide when and what I will react on, that I feel conflicts with my view on how a specific things should be. Slash can do whatever he wants, and I'm sure that's what he does and will continue to do. If he feels doing a car commercial is'nt against his integrity that's fine by me, but it won't change the fact that my opinion on him may be affected, wether I like it or not.

I'm always amused at people that think because one guy sells million of records and tours a lot, he's loaded with $$$. 

Although one can make a ton of money that way, how can anyone say how much is left years latter? Anyone heard of record companies actually getting most of the money instead of the artist? Anyone heard of artists blowing all their $$$ on drugs and being broke? Anyone heard of artist being broke becuase of really bad investments? Anyone heard of artists being ripped off by their financial advisors?

Now, I agree, the majority of artists are well-off and don't have to worry much about money, but no one can tell what is the specific financial situation of one particular individual.

Its just a commercisl, Slash is an entertainer and this is what WORK is for entertainers. He's not selling out at all, he's playing guitar to make a living. I wish I could do the same, he's doing what we all do...using his talent to earn money to live. People who are saying he's a sell out are full of shit really. What defines 'selling out'?
