Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: ppbebe on October 09, 2006, 11:56:14 AM I thought tix sales were taken into account?

Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: axlrosehunny on October 09, 2006, 12:02:31 PM I think this proves once and for all that Guns N Roses is the greatest band of all time.

Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: TAP on October 09, 2006, 01:15:38 PM This is what I found with a net search. It's probably written somewhere on pollstar's website if you have the premium service. But anyway, the chart referenced in this thread seems top be based on searches not ticket sales.. -------------------------------------------------------------- Here is how Pollstar describes how the artists are listed on their Top 50 listings. Note their use of the word "rank" and not "rate". "Artists are ranked by the number of times their itinerary is requested by fans visiting the Pollstar Web site on the Internet. This site receives more than 23 million hits per month. The Power Index is determined by ranking the artists as a percentage of the chart leader." -------------------------------------------------------------- Pollstar has another (premium only) chart called the concert pulse chart which is based on ticket sales. But I would think that one, like Billboard's, is based on ticket sales/grosses after the show has taken place. Does anyone have access to it? Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: nesquick on October 09, 2006, 01:55:43 PM that's good!? :P
I guess when chiDem is out, it will be something like 10.000 points :hihi: Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: gandra on October 09, 2006, 02:18:22 PM This is what I found with a net search. I don't think I've been to the Pollstar Web site. most net-regular GNR fans would know better sites for the updates on GN'R. maybe that post about the pollstar chart could have some effect, but it was just yesterday. public interest in this tour is ultrahigh. Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: RJ1221 on October 09, 2006, 02:27:45 PM I think this proves once and for all that Guns N Roses is the greatest band of all time. i wouldnt go that far sure, GN'R is my fav band, but even i can admit that there's been bigger bands then them Led Zeppelin Queen Pink Floyd The Rolling Stones The Eagles Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: polluxlm on October 09, 2006, 02:29:15 PM "Artists are ranked by the number of times their itinerary is requested by fans visiting the Pollstar Web site on the Internet. Observation If the ranking is decided upon how many hits a band get's on the Pollstar site, doesn't it seem like a strange coincedence that GN'R goes to number 1 the week after this board discovers that they were number 2 ;D Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: TAP on October 09, 2006, 02:40:09 PM This is what I found with a net search. People are certainly going to be curious about the return of GNR especially when the album comes out but that's not the same as sales.... Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: Eazy E on October 09, 2006, 02:56:32 PM It is usually the most recently announced tour that is #1 on Pollstar because everyone wants to find out what the tour dates are. It doesn't reflect ticket sales and, like someone mentioned, could be the result of this message board checking the website to see where GN'R are "ranked".
Death Cab For Cutie was #1 when the first couple of GN'R dates were announced.... so I don't know where this comes from: I think this proves once and for all that Guns N Roses is the greatest band of all time. Unless it's sarcasm. :hihi: Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: ppbebe on October 09, 2006, 04:16:43 PM It is usually the most recently announced tour that is #1 on Pollstar because everyone wants to find out what the tour dates are. Death Cab For Cutie was #1 when the first couple of GN'R dates were announced.... And Death Cab For Cutie beated the #2 by the margin as large as GN'R does? and in a few days? ::) I think this proves once and for all that Guns N Roses is the greatest band of all time. Unless it's sarcasm. :hihi: As if there were any 80s band or the successer that is still as interesting as GNR now. : ok: Quote Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: Eazy E on October 09, 2006, 05:32:40 PM And Death Cab For Cutie beated the #2 by the margin as large as GN'R does? and in a few days? ::) Pollstar is updated weekly, not daily... Guns N' Roses is a great band, but my point is that being #1 on Pollstar doesn't "confirm" that this is true. All this means is that the week GN'R's tour announced, more people clicked on their tour dates than any other bands tour dates. This is about as reliable as using a poll on rollingstone.com to "prove" that GN'R is the greatest band of all time. It is good that people are interested in the tour, but it's more important that it translates into ticket sales. GNR was already second only to the who by several points then. I know you did but would the majority of forum regulars go there before that knowing fan boards like this and new official site and ticketmaster site? but my point is that being #1 on Pollstar doesn't "confirm" that this is true. All this means is that the week GN'R's tour announced, more people clicked on their tour dates than any other bands tour dates. The demand usually reflects the public interest but yea, Point taken. Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: KeVoRkIaN on October 09, 2006, 08:26:26 PM Loving the fact Gwar is on that list

I can't wait for CD...we'll hopefully see them be #1 the first week of the Bilboard chart! Title: Re: gnr #1 on pollstar Post by: Warchild on October 10, 2006, 03:24:10 PM And Death Cab For Cutie beated the #2 by the margin as large as GN'R does? and in a few days? ::) Pollstar is updated weekly, not daily...
