Title: GRE exams
Post by: pasnow on October 09, 2006, 09:52:12 AM
Hi,

I've been out of school for about 10 years & haven't taken many tests since then. I'm considering going back to grad school P/T, and will be taking the GRE's soon. My school & dept will prefer I get a 500 on both, does anyone have any feedback on how attainable that should be. I have been studying the guides & vocabulary flashcards.

Thanks in advance for any help, ;D

I don't think that will be too hard.  The GRE is a relatively easy exam.

the best way to assess your current level is through doing a bunch of practice GREs.
good luck...btw, don't sweat it, they're not that bad.

I think the GMAT's even harder, but thanks.. It's reassuring at least that I have a shot at it. I'll keep on studying & let you all know.

GRE is not an "easy" exam, well not in the sense that you can just go and blindly give the exam, anyway. While I've not written it myself, a lot of my friends have. You need to have a feel for the type of questions they ask, so practice exams and tests are a must. Vocabulary is important in the literature section, while math is well... math.

Notice the key word - relatively.  It is much easier than the other grad school exams.  I know, I took the GMAT, LSAT and GRE.  The competition taking the GRE does not compare to the other two exams.

Is this like a general knowledge test?

We should get a couple prctice ones and compete.

Thanks for you help  & feedback everyone. I took it yesterday and did pretty well. My school "preferred" a 500 or more, I got a 550 for verbal & 620 for math.
