At that point, He could have got an education to be a lawyer if he had really wished, I think. With his strong will, it shouldn't have been impossible at all. I believe that he was born to succeed at this. Had he not, I hate to say he'd be "dead" or "in jail", or even "working a remedial service job", but those options are quite often the outcomes for musicians who don't make it (and even some who do).
Axl does have a knack for writing; I could see him writing some crazy fucked-up memoirs (? la Augusten Burroughs) about his crazy fucked-up life and making a living (and garnering a modicum of notoriety) in that way.
