Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Since it seems to be really quiet in the GN'R world at the moment I thought we could do this little thing. It's probably been done a few times already, but I'm old and I forget things. ;)


List your GN'R highlight(s). It could be the first show you saw, the first time you heard a song, the time you bought a GN'R album, the first time you saw a GN'R video or maybe something completely different....


As an example I'll list some personal GN'R highlights:

- Getting Appetite For Destruction on tape after seeing "Paradise City" on MTV. It changed my life.

- August 16th, 1991. My first concert and also my first (and so far only) GN'R show. I remember the houselights during Rocket Queens, hearing Estranged and that there was no review in the paper the day after (GN'R didn't let them take pics so they didn't write a review).

- September 16th, 1991. School ended at 3pm, I went to the record store and bought UYI 1 & 2 on LP. I recognized some of the songs from the show a month earlier.

- April 20th, 1992. Sitting at home watching the The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness.

- January 14th, 2001. Rock In Rio 3. I listened to this on a shitty stream. Got cut off quite a lot but that didn't matter. I was excited to hear some new songs.

- August 24th, 2002. Pukkelpop, I have to mention this because it's kinda special even though I wasn't even there. I thought the first persons who e-mailed me day after had some problems with their hearing....

- August 29th, 2002. GN'R closing the VMAs. I remember talking to Kiki and reading the board before and after GN'R's performance. We had lots of people online that day/night. I didn't care if Axl didn't have his best day, I was just excited to see him back on tv.

offstage.  GNR went on stage at 11:20 after the tickets said they'd go on "around 9:00" or something to that effect.

The VMA's last year were exciting as well.  Finally seeing what the new band actually looked like as a unit was quite a thrill.  Realizing Robin Finck might quite possibly be the coolest contemporary guitar player out there...

March ?, 1993- Iowa City, Iowa. Saw Gnr there and it is still the bar by which i judge concerts. The funny thing is, I had somewhat soured on the whole GnR thing at that point just because they seemed to be completely out of touch with the world. U know, Axl wearing sport coats & biker shorts, those crappy TokyoDome videos, Izzy leaving, etc....Hell, even the Brian May band who opened totally sucked & did some horrible bitch fight thing in his set. Then it happened, they stormed on with 'It's So Easy' and rocked a 15,000+ crowd like no other band I've ever seen. No stupid wardrobe changes, an awesome acoustic set in the middle, and a couple of encores. It was unbelievable, it felt like watching cartoon characters on stage, Axl & Slash were larger than life up there. Axl was in top form, a few rants, some acrobatics on the couches & piano & to see a legend like Slash rip through his own material is something i will never, ever forget.

Hearing Oh My God. because I thought the greatest band in teh world was ready to make a comeback
1-1-01 because I stayed up all night till i got a review of how it went.  And when I first heard that Chinese Democracy mp3 how I thought this band fucking rocks
12-6-02 Setting at the First Union Center in Philly kinda laughing at the fact Axl didn't show up.....Even thou I didn't get to see him it was just kinda funny ya know.

-Getting my first GnR tape when I was 8. AFD.

-Watching the Tokyo vids. First time I saw them perform live. Watched them with my parents and remember cursing Matt and his half hour drum solo.

-Trying to get tix to see them in Edmonton, 1993. Sold out too fast and I was only in grade three.

-Seeing TSI in store and going nuts.

-Finding OMG on the net and recording it on a tape and listening to it like crazy.

-Skipping school to buy Live Era...in my GnR shirt of course.

-Vegas, Return of the Jedi... waiting up all night like crazy.

-Vancouver, Nov.7/02. My first GnR concert... nevermind... my first GNR RIOT!!!

-Tacoma, Wa, Nov.9/02. Actually my first GnR concert. I took a Greyhound from Vancouver and I arrived 5 minutes before GnR came on. Surreal experience. Paid 110 Canadian dollars for a ticket, and 100 Canadian for a shirt and bandana...

-Philly... na na na na na na na na Hey hey hey, goodbye...

Watching November Rain for the first time and getting chills up my spine when slash mounted the piano and played those chords....

26.08.02 GUNS N' FUCKING ROSES!!! Seeing Axl 15 feet away from me!! [wow] BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

VMA's.... stayed up till 4AM on the offchance they might show.... dancing round my living room..... turning up the TV..... didn't even notice until people pointed it out later axl was out of breath......

seein them on the VMA's maybe axl sounded bad but it made me realise the new band isnt so bad and that they're acually doing stuff

travellin 6h to see them in toronto live november 29 2002... it was awsome... also made me realise that the new band isnt so shabby

lol, im with you there. I was so fucking excited that I wouldnt have cared if he didnt sing in the right key. anyway...

The thing that just got me into GNR was when my brother and me were riding to work and he had borrowed UYI 1 off of a friend and he only really liked  3 tracks from it and he played them the whole way. Don't Cry, then Bad Obsession, then November Rain. I fucking loved it.

That, and the VMAs. Now im waiting for an album :(

When we went to leeds last year. There was 5 of us but only me and 1 other dude stayed at the front for GNR, which I was dissapointed at.  We'd been jumping around for the last 4 hours to other shite bands and anyone that was there will tell u how hot and crowded it was, I thought my kidneys were going to explode through dehydration.  it was ace!

Well, since I live in a shitty, little no-where town and have strict parents, I never got to see GN'R live.  All of you who have are sooooo lucky!  Hopefully, GN'R will continue and I'll get to see them sometime soon (since I'm old as the hills and don't have to worry about parental permission anymore).

Anyway, GN'R highlights...riding around with my boyfriend listening to AFD, singing along at the top of our voices, and getting really drunk!  Seemed to go hand-in-hand at the time.  

Next...skipping my 8:00 class to get the Illusions.  I was so excited!  Then skipping my next two classes to listen to as much as I could.

October, 1991: Getting UYI 1&2 in the mail, finally, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The tapes were worn out by the time I came home in January.

September, 1992: Columbia, S.C. Faith No More, Metallica, and GnR. A good night.

May 1993: Raleigh, N.C. Blind Melon and GnR. Best Concert I've ever seen. Axl was in a good mood that night and was cracking jokes the whole show. Of course it's one of the few shows that cant be found on bootleg.

2002 VMA's My favorite thing about that whole night was that it wasn't a typical GnR crowd. People were there to see Eminem and all the other groups that are popular now, but the place just went apeshit when the curtains came up and there was Axl.

Many highlights over 15 years, but I'm going to use this opportunity to tell my VMA story...

Prior to August, I had been checking in on GNR news like once every 4 months or so on Jarmo's news page.  Never looked at message boards or anything.  So I had no clue about the VMAs, but I had a vague idea that GNR was in Europe that week.

So I happened to be visiting my parents for a long weekend and thought, "what the hell, I'll watch the VMAs, I like Jimmy Fallon and I'll catch up on the MTV scene."  So I'm watching, and Jimmy says his "tell your friends there is a big surprise coming..." and in the back of my head, I think, maybe it's GNR!  They are probably just coming back from Europe, perfect time to stop off in NYC on the way to LA, etc.  And I actually got butterflies in my stomach and all excited, wanting to jump up and down.  So I wait up, and then time is running out, and I thought the big surprise was fucking Justin Timberlake.  After that and the next award, I thought "I'm such a moron, I sat through this whole fucking show, all excited, only to watch Timberlake, on the  off chance it could be GNR."  AND I TURNED THE TV OFF THERE and went to bed sullen.  Literally, I turned it off 5 seconds before they cut back to Jimmy wearing the Tshirt and whistling Patience.  

So the next morning I'm at breakfast and my mom is reading the NY Times, and she mentions the Michael Jackson moment she's reading about and happens to mention GNR.  I did a double take and ripped the paper out of her hands, and literally had to read the thing 3 times before comprehending.  So excited, upset, and happy with my intuition all at once.  Thank God MTV replays those shows like 3 times the following weekend, so I saw it that day.

Anyway, I was just excited to see it then.  And it kicked off Phase 2 of my GNR obsession (alright, I admit you can call it that).  I saw 2 shows this past tour, have listened to all the CDs again, bought Buckethead CDs, and come here almost everyday to quick see if there's news.  So the VMAs were definitely a highlight.

-when i was 11, i put in AFD to impress my friend (i thought it sucked but wanted to play the cool gal), and was a gn'r fan after 2 chords of WTTJ

-my first expirience with the internet at the age of 17. my dad showed me yahoo (the only decent search engine back at the time), and then he said "well now you gotta type in what you're lookin for". well the part of me that's a gn'r-freak had been sort of asleep for about 2 years by then, but made a violent comeback that very moment. i was astonished how many people were out there that were as crazy as me (and even crazier maybe hehe). that got me back on "the right track" :) . i'd thought i was the only gn'r fan left in the whole world :) - note to axl: without the internet, i think most fans would've left by now, sort of (and i'd never known about the leeds thing)

-LEEDS - flew to london on thursday night, spent the night on a bench in front of mme. tussaud's cause i'd literally missed the train to leeds by 2 min. took the first train to leeds, met a bunch of sottish gn'r fans. slept on the soil in front of the stage the whole day. got first row on the left side. my mind went into another world when i heard the WTTJ, so i don't even remember half the fuckin show.... but i've seen axl :) - slept in leeds train station, took first train back to london, was bang on time to catch the plane back to zurich, went home, showered, and went to the goodbye-game of my fav. hockey player. the people there were all like "oh this is so beautiful" and "i've been waiting all summer to see this" and blah and how this was the best thing they'd ever seen n' i was just like WTF i've seen axl i don't *fuckin* care, what a lame game LOL.

Some time in 1994 (age 10): Heard November Rain and Paradise City for the first time on MTV.  Thought it was cool.

Some time in 1997: Heard "Welcome To The Jungle" at a hockey game.  Didn't know what it was, but liked it.

Summer of 1999: Started listening to the radio a lot, heard a lot of GNR stuff for the first time.

September 1999: Saw video for WTTJ from Live Era.  Started really getting into GNR.

January 15, 2000, 7 pm: Bought Live Era, my first GNR album.

June 20, 2000, 10 am: Broke up with girlfriend.  Locked myself in my room and listened to "Estranged" from Live Era for the next three days, emerging only to eat and go to the can.

June 27, 2000, 12:23 pm: Finally bought AFD.  Listened to it 5 times over on my way to Michigan.

Some time in Fall 2000: Started reading HTGTH every so often.  Bought UYI 1 and 2, and GNR Lies.  Wore out one Discman listening to them.

March 2002: Bought The Spaghetti Incident?  Lost some faith in GNR.

September 2002: Started college, joined HTGTH.

December 2, 2002: My first concert EVER-- GNR in Boston!!

January 7, 2003: Bought a guitar, started learning GNR stuff.

April 20, 2003, 5:15 am EST: I post this list at HTGTH.

I have to say that the biggest memory is seeing GNR last year in Tacoma.  I remember waking up and my friend telling me that the show in Vancouver had turned into a riot.  I was like, oh no, I can't believe that they started the tour with a riot.  I was anxious that the show would be canceled and that I'd never see GNR.  But, long story short, the concert happened and it blew me away.

1988- Paradise City video clip on Super Channel

1993- All of their albums in my collection (plus some collector's items) but I couldn't go to Athens cause I was to young to travel 560 km.

1999- End Of Days soundtrack and a new song!!!

2001- I broke up with a girl I was with for 3 years / I rediscover Estranged and Guns N'Roses / I find out about this site and board.

2002- July: I watched the RIR3 video which I hated (cause the quality sucked) / August: I'm travelling to England to see them at Leeds and London. In London I have a sign that says "GREECE LOVES GNR" which Axl notices and comments on it. He waved at me twice...

2003- I started www.gunsnroses.gr ? ? / ? ? ? Chinese Democracy is coming...

1988 - Seeing Sweet Child O Mine video and buying AFD on tape. Walking to and from high school listening to AFD nearly every day in my walkman.

1992 - Buying Illusions I & II on CD. Watching the Freddie Mercury tribute on TV with friends at my university dorm.

fast forward to 2002 - Being upset that I wasn't going to be home in Vancouver to see the GnR concert because I was travelling, but then after hearing about the riots, I was glad and relieved that I wasn't able to be there after all.  :-\

i have alot of highlights, but most recently, friday night, after the bar, a girl i've been going after for the longest time left with me, we drove to a secluded area, i played november rain as we danced under the stars and the moonlit sky, and shared our first kiss. i'm usually not a romancer, but this time axl's words and gnr's music brought out the soft side of me, i'm still smiling.

-Buying "AFD" in early summer of '88 when I was eleven years old.

-Having my dad promise me he would take me to see G N' R when they played NY.  Found out they would be playing with Aerosmith at Giants Stadium that summer.  His friend had come across an extra pair of tickets a few days before the show.  My dad was set to give him the money the next day at work and get the tickets.  That whole day I was so excited.  Couldnt wait for my dad to get home from work so I could look at the tickets.  When my dad got home that night he looked as if he was going to cry.  He didnt have the tickets cause his friend wound up selling them to another buddy of his.  Talk about feeling let down.   :'(  [crying]

-Missing the warm up show G N' R played in NYC in May '91.  A friend of my mom's brought me back a T-shirt though -which I still have.  The now famous saying "Here Today...Gone To Hell..."

-Going to see Terminator 2 in the theater not just cause it was a kick ass film but because I wanted to hear G N' R's new single played and at the end of the film I rocked out and was jumping in the aisle.

-Missing more G N' R shows in NYC in December '91.  :'(

-Running straight to the record store after another difficult school day as a Freshman in High School to buy my copy of the Illusion albums and it changing my teenage and adult life, same as "AFD" had changed my childhood in 1988.

-Missing the G N' R/Metallica shows at Giants Stadium in 1992.  Eh, did that hurt :(  Third time is a charm though and when they play Giants Stadium again...I WILL FUCKIN BE THERE THIS TIME DAMN IT!  [rant]

-FINALLY getting to see G N' R live in concert on March 6, 1993 -even though I had to travel all the way to New Haven, Connecticut to see them!  Great fuckin show.

-Seeing Axl return live in person at the 01-01-01 Las Vegas show.  Having him see my Use Your Illusion I tattoo and point me out of the crowd and give me a huge smile and thumbs up.  Then bringing Tommy to the front of the stage to point me out again and show him.  Unfuckin real!  One of the most amazing moments of my life :)

-Meeting Slash and Matt Sorum in summer 2001 when I worked at The Howard Stern Show.

-Seeing G N' R for two more shows in Vegas in December 2001.

-Seeing G N' R make their "official" comeback at the MTV Awards in summer 2002.

-Spending all my graduation money to see G N' R kick off their first headlining North American tour since 1993 in Vancouver.  Well, the rest is history :(  [confused]

-Being front row in Albany, New York to see the band play.  Axl pointing me out of crowd again by giving me back the peace sign I gave to him during "Paradise City" -which was captured perfectly on the video boot!  [ok]

-Being second row in Hartford, CT to see the band live again.  Axl pointing me out of the crowd again and rocking out with me at the end of Madagascar.  [peace]

-FINALLY getting to see G N' R in my own backyard -New York City -on December 5, 2002.  Great show.  [wow]

-Getting the chills every single time I listen to one of my G N' R albums, or watch one of their video performances.   [love]

Many Highlights:
-Seeing WTTJ for the first time on MTV and being blown away.  "Look at that guitar player.  You can't even see his face!"
-The summer of '88 was dominated by AFD and was capped off when I saw them for the first time opening for Aerosmith.  After their set Slash & Duff walked walked right in front of us on the way to the sound board.
-Sept. '91 standing in line at midnight to get the UYI albums.
-Jan. '92 waiting in a hostile Nutter Center in Dayton, OH for GNR to hit the stage.  They come on at 12:30am and blaze until 3 am.  I went the next night too and they came on early...11:30pm
-Meeting Slash in '98 & '01

VEGAS 01-01-01  One of the greatest thrills of my life!

!989.....I was looking at all my cousins casettes...I saw appetite and thought it looked pretty cool, so I popped it in....i was hooked

1993 - saw them for the first time in Fargo, ND

2001 - saw then in vegas

2002 - saw them in minneapolis and fargo

I first didn?t like GN?R. In 1990 I borrowed a Manfred Mann-Tape from a friend - 2nd side was AFD. After a short time I really liked that stuff very much. GN?R was my introduce to "hard" music in general.

Buying UYI I + II (after a long time of waiting). Greatest music for lots of years - bad time for my mother ;-) - because we were still living in one flat!

Went to three shows in `92 and `93 (Stuttgart/Germany, Karlsruhe/Germany, Frankfurt/Germany) - two times in front row, center.

Axl saw my shirt with "Stay like Francis Farmer, but only her first part of life (Stuttgart/Germany)" on it while playing Live and Let Die in Karlsruhe (`93). He made a short break after the song, checked my shirt again (which was a bit strenuous for him because of the distance. He ordered the camera-man to film me, so I was filling out the two huge screens beside the stage. He smiled and gave me an O (.k.) with his hand. He introduced me short before starting WTTJ! The crowd went... somehow crazy! I have the show as Bootleg!!!
That was my "famous moment" in front of about 60.000 people!

The whole show was absolutely phantastic, seeing Axl (and the band) directly in front of me playing Dust in the Wind, November Rain, Estranged, Paradise City... (I must say that it?s a big difference compared to the new GN?R!)

At the end of the concert he shouted s.th. like "(....) Good night, Stuttgart!". In fact, the gig was in Karlsruhe. He still had Stuttgart (from my shirt) in mind. Funny!

Before my third GN?R show I met Axl in a hotel in Frankfurt, and tried to speak with him. We were alone, and my english that time was maybe 10%, and I was soooooooooo fuckin? nervous standing in front of Axl while he was looking at me that I had only few (english) words left. Not enough for a real conversation!
He obviously expected some words from me, while he was looking at me and my surprising appearance in his room. I asked if he got the slides (I gave this  -afterwards I think STUPID- present, some slides,  a security guy adressed to Axl). He replied "Yeah." But the whole situation went bad a minute after I  turned up  (he later wanted to kick my ass), because Axl for sure (!) didn?t have the  patience  to wait for more more of my babbling. I was only able to excuse for this, and I said "fuck" to that situation. I didn?t mean Axl. So he was pissed off, directly went my way walking out of the room (for sure I went out of his way, otherwise he would have run in me, and I could have touched him. But I?m no woman, and there?s to much respect for that man. And I think it?s not necessary to touch your idol. It was bad enough to bring him in this situation!

So Doug Goldstein "brought" me out of area. Axl was upset and smashed the door.

Before I stood in his door frame he was playing "Dust in the wind", which sounded so awesome and his voice filled the whole big, long floor and it was so beautyful - like Axl singing in  a church! I guessed he was playing a really big piano and sang in a mic. I had to come closer - I knew that would be the only chance in my life to personally meet Axl. Then I saw him sitting on a settee, a Korg keyboard in front of him and no mic! It was unbelievable!!!

So it was one of the greatest and also one of the worst situations in my life (I suffered years on that)! Shit happens.  

Today I?d be a lot more cool in such a situation.

So IF you read this, Axl: I?m so sorry about that, and I hope you were able to forgive me for this! I?m not a stalker, only a fan who wanted to meet his idol and talk a few words.

Also met Duff: He?s a very nice guy.

The next day I had birthday and spent the whole day waiting outside the hotel. Earl came out, he spoke with me about this incident. It seemed he also got in trouble with Axl because of a fan coming so close to him (I mean, I stood uninvited in his room, and I also could have been a crazy fan who wants to kill him or s.th. like that). I excused as good as possible, and asked for an excuse adressed to Axl. The excuse probably reached him.

After Axl left the hotel for the gig, I drove to the stadium and got over the metal fence  with the help of a tree. Also a great concert with a different - compared to 1992 - great accoustic-like version of November Rain with Slash sitting on the piano, and an accoustic set.

Then "The 10 year-waiting" began. Spaghetti didn?t satisfy me very much.

Bought two tickets for "Rock im Park (2001)" for 280 DM (lot og money). Buckethead got ill (on the other hand Axl didn?t know there are shows in Europe!!!). I decided to not go to the festival, because I wanted only because of GN?R. After eight years of waiting, I was depressed about this.

Guns N?Roses will ever be my favourite band - they (and especially Axl) gave me so much in the past 13 years! They influenced me and helped me finding my own place in this world - at least lots of time!

FrancisFarmer - i also had ticks for Rock im Park, Rock am Ring, Berlin, and Stockholm. I had talked a friend in coming to RIP with me, so i was in RIP (no gn'r though ("humor ist, wenn man trotzdem geht"). i got the money back for berlin, and also for the train tickets i'd already bought. i had talked another friend into coming to stockholm with me. she called me one fine day n' said "hey i just heard on the radio the gn'r shows are cancelled - you still come to stockholm with me" - it's a beautiful city... well lucky me: my bro works for swiss (former swissair), and so i got my tickets for half the price... in stockholm i went to the globe arena and there were posters of gn'r hanging everywhere, so i walked to their office n' asked if i could get one (i have it at home, so it was worth the trip). i could also exchange the gn'r ticks for some for december (first the stockholm show was postponed). well i got my money back from sweden when the show was cancelled without even asking for it...

-The first time I heard Welcome To The Jungle which was the first Guns song I heard anyway. It blew me away and the obsession has started ;D To quote Jarmo: "It changed my life"

-The first time I actually saw the band behind the music - especially this guy with the red hair and the bandana  [love]

-The first time I heard Estranged. [smoking]

1.Hearing Estranged for the first time, Alpine Valley 1991 opening    weekend of the Illusions tours.  Remeber that other than some radio station rumors, most of us here in America had heard little about the Rock in Rio show.  YCBM was being played, but we had no real clue as to what the Illusions albums would be like.  These two shows were incredible, if for the fact that I was there up close, and got to hear new GNR material fro the first time in 2 years :)

2. HOB Las Vegas show 1/1/1, hearing The Blues for the first time.  See above


I have about 20 more, but these two moments will forever stand out in my mind.

-Getting my first CD. It was AFD and my dad bought it to me.

-Recording the whole video tape full of Dont cry-video.


-That was great moment for me too. Was it really april? At the time i was in our summer place in middle Finland and my aunt had to record it to me, cause we didnt had videos there.

-All those GNR weekends on MTV!

-Being miserably in love with Axl. It was 1991 and i was in Play Del Ingles with my family. I spent all days inside raeding Rock magazines about Axl. I felt so sick because of him (my first love).  ;D

-I?ve never seen them live.. :(

I'm not old enough to have as many GNR memories as most of you  :'(

So I'm hoping that it will be the new GNR who change mylife ;)

I can't really remmember hearing Sweet Child or Jungle etc for the first time, because, well, they are just songs that I have grown up knowing.

Staying up late on the slight chance that GNR would appear at the VMA's...thank God they did  ;)

1994 - Watching the video for "November Rain" at 12 years old and being into grunge and pop-punk acts and not liking GNR b/c they were considered 1980's establishment - and they seemed too ostentatious and overblown - not to mention I thought they were being sellouts after AFD had seemed to be a hard album. Sure enough, hating GNR when I was younger would set the stage for a much greater appreciation of the band when I got a little bit older

1997 - Starting to broaden my musical horizons a bit from the contemporary stuff with Elton John, the Beatles, Zeppelin...u get the picture. But sure enough, my 1st GNR recording is found a mix tape from summer camp with "Nighttrain" as one of the featured tracks ( I still hated GNR for "November Rain", but I was familiar with their AFD stuff - but only PC, WTTJ, SCOM & Nightrain).

December 1998 - A little bit older and wiser - about 16 years old and watching MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch" when Nick Diamond falls off the broadcaster's booth after a dead celebrity knocks into it, and falls down and knocks his head and goes into a coma ("Coma" would have sounded better). At the end of the episode, they pay a tribute to Nick Diamond playing "Knockin On Heaven's Door"...the 1st time I heard that song since 1991. I thought it sounded cool, but I still hated GNR, so instead of buying AFD & UYI, burning them on CD & returning them, I just borrowed  those cd's from my friend (note: "Coma" & "Don't Cry" were not on the burned copies).

December 1998 - After misplacing UYI 2 with UYI 1, I turned to track 4 to hear "KOHD" but instead got something even better. "Don;t Cry" and soon to follow "Civil War" became my first beloved GNR tracks.

July 1999 - Hearing "Patience" for the very 1st time and deciding it would be worth burning that GNR LIES CD too.

December 1999 - LIstening to Live Era 1987-1993 and just going fucking wild for one track on that album "Its So Easy".

January 2000 - Buying "Welcome to the Videos" and seeing "Estranged" a song i had feared listening too, and crying the whole day afterwards, knowing my views of myself would never be the same, as well as concluding that I finally had a favorite Rock N' Roll band (GNR) and a favorite musician (Axl) and that I would begin devoting $$$ towards assembling a collection of their music and merchandise.

July 2000 - Just falling in love with "Coma". Also began buying videos from ebay including the Paris show 1992 which is still my favorite.

Oct 25th 2000 - Running around the hallways of my dorm at BU with my shirt off, yelling at the top of my lungs after reading the MTV report that GNR would be debuting the new lineup at Rock N' Rio 3.

August 12th 2002 - Reading the Axl interview and finally understanding how and why GNR had broken up. Getting excited for the new GNR tour.

September 2002 - Getting 25 GNR shows on VCD from Hong Kong and loving them all.

December 2nd 2002 - Watching GNR in Fleetcenter and coming to the conclusion after hearing that performance and others that the true greatness of this lineup will only shine with the new material - that the old songs would never sound as good as they did with the old band, but that this new band can pack just as good a punch with their new material.

April 2003 - Feeling more confident now than at any point in the past 4 years that GNR will be putting out the record at any month, and at any moment, will begin their blitz on the music scene.

Oct or Nov 1989 - I was 15 and the american assistant who gave us conversation lessons in high school lent me Appetite for destruction because i told him I listened to Led Zep.

6-6-92 : Show in Vincennes... half of my fellow students, many weren't even gn'r fans, went to that show while I was locked at home because of my Baccalaur?at de Philosophie.

7-8-93 : Show in Nancy! First time I saw them live... it was amazing and I'm nearly glad this is one of the few shows where there's no bootleg available... makes it even more special.

7-13-93: Show in Paris... Yes twice that year ;)  [ok]

2-14-95: Won a pin ball contest (weird things do happen) and witnessed an accoustic Slash's Snakepit Show with 50 other people.

To make it short :

9-14-2000: Metting Slash again after an ac/dc show in Vegas...

August 2002 : Pukkelpop Festival and London Arena... I loved so much the new band live... that I planned to see them in Vegas in December (I was lucky enough to have my plane tickets and my hotel refunded)! But I'm ready to do it over again, no doubt ;)

oh not to mention that gn'r played basel in '93 (they also did in 91, but i didn't get that). my bro n' i  (11 and 13) agreed on our mom saying "you're too small but see gn'r are so big they're gonna be back in 2 years". thanks, mom! :P

  Been a fan ever I heard a new song(WTTJ) by a new band called G n R way back whenever AFD was released('87?).  My friends & I (all musicians) made sure we got AFD as soon as it was released.  Thought It's So Easy was the coolest thing we'd ever heard.  We used to get smashed & then spend the whole night discussing & dissecting the sheer brilliance of that album.  We honestly thought it was the GREATEST thing any of us had ever heard. Saw them at a small club in New Jersey(Obsessions, in Randolf) a few weeks after AFD was released.  The funny thing is, that was a make-up show - they were supposed to play a few weeks previous, but when we got to the club, we learned they cancelled.  Saw them soon after at the famous NYC Ritz show, the one taped for MTV(at one point, my brother is visible). Saw them soon after at the Felt Forum(now known as the Theatre at MSG), Saw them at Giants Stadium about a year later, opening for Deep Purple & Aerosmith. Oh yea, I almost forgot, I met Slash & Duff through a friend of a friend the night before the Ritz show, while they were giving a radio interview at NYU. I actually videotaped the interview(at the time I was a fledgling camera operator/editor), & later that night, I cut a music video intercutting clips of the interview, a crazy radio station middle management type jerk-off who was going around screaming at people at the station,  clips of Mike Tyson beating the crap out of, I think, either Michael Spinks or trevor Berbick, & bunch of crazy clips of some buddies of mine trashing a hotel room at the jersey shore, all set to WTTJ. I put my name & phone # at the end of the piece, & actually got it into Goldstein's hand the night of the Ritz show, but alas, I never heard from them.  Oh well.
  I was living in Hermosa Beach, CA, when UYI were released, I remember KNAC(the greatest radio station ever) played the  entire UYI 1 & 2 about a week before they were released, I remember hearing "The Garden" while I was working out at a gym in Manhattan Beach, & freaking out because I thought I heard Alice Cooper singing on a GnR song. COOL!!! It was probably the best time of my life - my girlfriend(now my wife) & I had a tiny 1 bedroom ocean view apartment in Hermosa, we were practically broke( I was just starting my career in Video/Film Postproduction), & I have vivid memories of us playing 500 rummy late into the night, just the 2 of us, listening to UYI 1 & 2 all night.
  Moved back East, saw them again at Giants Stadium(w/ FNM & Metallica).  All I remember was that the show didn't end till around 2:00am, they opened up with "Perfect Crime"(it was the first time I saw them where they didn't open w/"It's So Easy"), they seemed to play for close to 3 hours, Slash did the Godfather theme, & they had the full blown production(there must have been 10 musicians on stage, including a flute player(!).
  Well, thanks for reading this far, it was fun taking this trip down memory lane.

My GNR hightlight is not a good one...  On December 6, 2002 - This was supposed to be my first time seeing GNR.  I bought tickets from ebay for $500 to the sold out show (which i eventually got most of my money refunded).  I drove 2 hours from Maryland to Philly to see my favorite band of all time.  He didn't show up.  Crowd was going nuts, stuff started flying so we got out of there.  Got out side and people were burning GNR merchandise, and we could hear the police on their way.  It was a long, sad drive home...

Hopefully I will finally get to see GNR once in my life, that's all I really want, more than I want the album.

Hopefully GNR did not die on 12-6-02, if you think about it - we haven't heard anything official from the band since that day.

Sitting watching The Freddie Mecury Tribute Concert on my Dad's birthday when I was 14.  Guns n Roses took the stage never heard of them before, seeing Axl for the first time and falling in love  [love] having my first real crush [drooling], and just being blown away by his performance.  [wow]

Going to Milton Keynes in 92 with the school hunk (who I am gonna marry next year).  Him holding my hand, Axl running down the side of stage where we were, soooooo surreal.

Whilst travelling stopping off in LA and walking past the Whiskey and making my friend go in the entrance with me just so I could say I had been in there.  (Not really a gnr highlight, but a good memory).

Getting grounded and playing Live and Let Die very loudly from my stereo.

Not really a highlight presay but the first time I saw Axl loose it live.......03.12.92 Hamilton's Copps Colliseum, Dust and Bones Tour, sitting frontrow,side stage and saw my poor man Axl, take a blue Bic lighter to the nuts, he had the most"i can't believe that fuckin happened" look on his face [no]it was in the middle of Paradise City(first set encore) he just threw the mic into the croed and walked offstage,the rest of the guys tried to salvage the song but we all new the show was over, till this day though , it has been one of the most memorable concerts of my life [love]

Some people r assholes. Why pay $$ to go see a  band if you are going to throw something at them. I seen Slayer once. Some guy threw a shoe at Tom Aray and Tom went Nuts on the guy!

ya, no shit eh? i was at a couple of the stadium tour for GnR, Metallica and Faith No More and people were throwing huge toilet paper rollsfrom  the third upper level, people were getiing hurt [no] It really sucks that a few assholes can ruin it for everyone >:(

My biggest moment is definately, seing Guns N Roses in Copenhagen 93.(Gentofte). They played for a couple of hours.
The only thing that can chances my biggest moment with GNR is,  the release of Chinese Democracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [yes]

jan 1997-a friend in school gave me a tape with wttj,its so easy(live) and half of paradise city,i was in love instantly,not long after i borrowed afd from a neighbour and that was me set.
'99- gettin end of days soundtrack and listenin to oh my god on repeat for hours,was an amazin day
'01- woke up to hear my mum on the fone booking tickets to see GN'R in Glasgow(they cancelled though,and the re-scheduled gig aswell)
'02-reading that GN'R were playin at leeds
23rd aug '02-Robin walkin onstage and playin the intro to jungle..the rest of the gig was just perfect...the best day of my life without a doubt

Let's see. Became a GNR fan about 1988 I think , just after SCOM was starting to play on the radio. Heard that song and liked that the vocals sounded different than most "metal" singers at the time , as well as the amazing guitar solo that still gives me chills to this day. Wore out countless "tapes" of Appetite , and was thrilled when Lies came out. Tried to keep up with them from reading Circus magazine , and collecting any magazines with GNR on the cover , like RIP , Hit Parader etc. Bought myself a few GNR t-shirts , even wore one to a wedding , wife didn't carre for that too much. Remember first time seeing Patience at the VMA ??? Didn't have cable TV so I missed most of the videos until later , always caught them if they were on regular TV though. My friends bought the 2 Illusion cassettes the day they came out for me , we went back to a friend's house and listened to them both a couple of times while drinking late into the night. Wore those out partying night after night. One night , had a real small party at a friend's house , this guy started mouthing off to my friend , ... we were both like who are you , they starting talking sh*t to each other. I get Get in the Ring cued up , they start fighting as I am playing Get in the Ring and finally we had to pull my friend off of this guy. Finally went and saw them I believe in 92' in Chicago. Show was awesome even though our seats sucked. Smashing Pumpkins opened up. I had never heard of the Pumpkins (this was before Siamese Dream) neither had most of the crowd , most people went to get a beer while the Pumpkins played , hardly anyone watched them. Those that did though saw Darcy , their bass played puke all over herself from nerves. GNR played Coma that night , one of the few times they played that song live. Show was great , talked about that show forever. The day after my sister was supposed to go to the 2nd Chicago show but Axl split town after being tipped off that the cops would arrest him for the St.Louis riot.  Got Spaghetti Incident , disappointed to some degree , waited for the next album ..........................................  been keeping up on this site for a few years now. Saw the new GNR in Chicago this past year , bought tickets on ebay the day of the show for $12 each. Sat far away , but hey got to see them. Highly impressed with Finck , Fortus , and B-head , sound at All state sucks , and sometimes Axl's voice needed to be turned up .... well the crowd was singing ever word and sometimes couldn't hear over them. But a great show , great night. Some guy that was a Slash look a like sat near us , we asked him how his band was going the whole night. Axl and the band were tight and in fire emotion wise. The crowd went wild as they say. So there it is still waiting and waiting for the new album. Oh , have bootlegged DVD of Chicago show someone gave to me , not bad quality , nice to relive.

I forgot , between AFD and UYI's , me and 4 friends decided to take a road trip to a college in Michigan after we had been drinking (don't try this at hom , illegal and dangerous) all night. We get to this Christian college where one of the guys girlfriends is going to school , we walk around looking for her still drinking in public , someone called security as we were being loud , security wouldn't come though , they were scared .... they though we were GNR. We all had long hair back then ... and look similiar ... we laughed about that for a long time after. Forgot that story. : )

and .....debating who was better Motley Crue or GNR night after night around 1992 or so.... I hated Motley Crue , thought they were a bunch of poseurs and that GNR were "real" . Ended up in fisticuffs on one occasion.

Lol , finding out how many "grunge" era kids were closet GNR fans. They were afraid to admit it , but one on one they'd tell me. GNR have stood the test of time like I predicted , Motley Crue and most of 80's metal has not.

My highlights:

- Paradise City at the London gig, shit dude, that was the best version of any
  song I have ever heard live, ever

The day in December '02 I heard that the band I had waited years to hear had cancelled the remainder of their tour...Oh oh, I forgot, this is supposed to be highlights, not lowlights.

Ok, highlights:
1. the day I found GNR boots in Moscow for about $2 a pop
2. the day I discovered I could buy cool GNR stuff on ebay
3. the day I started buying cool stuff on ebay
4. the day I found this website and became "enlightened" about GNR and its fan base

November 5 1988, watching Live At The Ritz on T.V., taping it & watching it over and over again. So many times - "As you all know we is filming tonight, for the M-T-V. You gonna help me rip the roof off this place tonight!" & "In a world which he did not create, but which he will go through as if it were his own making, half man, half beast, I'm not sure what it is, but whatever it is, it's weird and it's pissed off and it calls itself Slash!"
Pretty good for someone who hasn't had the video for at least ten years, huh?

My personal highlight would be the second vegas concert (12/29) that I got to see from damn close up to the stage (abour 3rd or 4th row).  Fucking killer.

I heard appetite for destruction for the first time about 8 years ago.Pretty much the reason I got into rawk.The reason I quit the piano and picked up the guitar.(but I still favour piano for those axl moments).

Now I know I'll never die a happy man, firstly because I didnt know about them when they played in Athens and secondly because I was too young anyway (like axlgreece said) to travel such a long distance from Salonika to Athens...     damn.... [crying]

Now my old copy of les paul if fitted with Alnico II pros and I spend about 3-4 hours a day playing gnr songs  [ok]
If I ever get the chance to form a band, well, probably it would be a tribute band to the greatest band ever stepped foot on earth [beer]

The first time I saw the Gunners was in Char, Nc on the first leg of UYI tour before the albums were released. Skid Row opened it was fun but difficult because I never heard alot of the songs. They came out to Right Next Door to Hell.
The next time I saw them was a in Columbia,SC. I bought tickets in ATlanta and got sixith row.
I was working my summer job between college...and i remember driving to my construction job and hearing on the radio. "For u fans going to see Metallica and GnR I have bad news...The concert has been postponed!! I almost cried.

The concert rescheduled for a month or two later. the problem was I was playing College footbal and we had curfew. No problem ..my roommate and i broke out and I gave some girl a ticket...she was thrilled until I told her she was driving!!! We got busted by the cops for drinking under-age .....he let us go and it was an awesome show.
The best show I went to was at the University of Nc...the Skin and Bones leg. Awesome!!
The last show I went to was Vegas! i paid 500.00 bucks for two tickets expecting awesome seats. I sat on the front row of the balcony and got bumped several times (tables). Finally, the last time I demanded to sit and got tossed for RON JEREMY!! I through a fit and demanded my money back....and then snuck back in....and was rebated a week later.
And then of course the last set of tickets were for Greenville, SC 2002 and it was cancelled.
Cant wait for the next show. By the way walking into The Hard Rock Cafe in vegas the night the Guns played was awesome the energy everywhere was awesome. Everyone dressed on black, everyone pumped, great feeling!!

A couple of highlights for me.

1st was when I saw the You Could Be Mine video on TV a few years ago. I didnt know much bout GNR but as soon as I saw the video and heard the song, they became my favourite band. Even now YCBM is my fav ever song.

2nd was the Leeds gig last year. I started travelling to the gig at 8am. Got to the festival at 2pm, had to put up with loadsa crap bands like Incubus, Slipknot and the Prodigy, then I was kept waiting for nearly an hour while Axl was getting ready.

It was 11pm and I was totally knackered. But as soon as the "I believe" monologue ended, and the WTTJ chords rang out, it was amazing. 50,000 people going crazy! It was the greatest feeling, I'll never forget it. Other highlights were the YCBM performance and Buckethead doing his nunchuk-dancing solo, I'd never seen anything like it!! [wow]

All of these will be beaten when I finally get my hands on a copy of Chinese Democracy and crank it up loud! Someday soon hopefully! [peace]

The first time I saw GN'R I was staying up late with my two brothers and we were watching MTV, and Welcome To The Jungle came on.  We thought the video was crazy, but also very cool. 8)

1986: My buddy and I buy Live Like A Suicide on vinyl from Rolling Stone Records near Chicago because they "looked cool" in the picture on the back, for $5.99.  I couldn't believe that voice..... Played it for my friends who thought it sounded like a sh*tty bootleg.  [hihi]

1987: AFD - Bought it the day it came out. Joined Fan Club.  Changed rock in my brain forever. Collected all 12" and singles like an obsession.

Later 1987: bought AFD with 2nd album cover...
1987 or 1988: Saw GnR open for Alice Cooper at the UIC Pavilion. Awesome show, except Steven had a broken arm, so Fred Coury from Cinderella was playing drums.

1988: Saw GnR open for Aerosmith at Poplar Creek. Another awesome show. Left during Aerosmith (sorry aerosmith fans).

1992: Saw GnR and Smashing Pumpkins at Rosemont Horizon. SP got booed, but they're one of my favorite bands as well. Guy next to me gets so stoned he passes out during the 2-3 hr. wait and missed the whole show.  As a whole, I loved the show for the content, but thought Axl's voice was shot. Coma... WOW!

2002: New GnR at Allstate Arena (formerly Rosemont). With some doubt and hesitation, I went. Wow. On time, and sounded great. Was really impressed by Axl's voice and both BH and Robin.  That ending with Paradise City and the confetti just topped it. And now that's my lasting memory until CD comes out....

We must've gotten some new members since July 4th who's got some kind of "highlights" to tell about.....

My highlight is got to be attending the gnr concert at madrid's vicente calderon stadium in july 93. it was the skin n' bones leg of the tour, and opening for them were suicidal tendencies and the brian may band (nice chicks he had on the chorus by the way!! [drooling].

At the begginig of "dead horse" axl played guitar, but had to restart the song when they had played it for almost a minute!!. cool concert, can't wait to see them againhopefully [hihi]

I have to admit that yesterday was a big highlight for me...

I had just opened my email and I got the newsletter from lastroots while I was talking to my dad on the phone.

So I read about Axl playing CD at that Strip Club and I'm not talking to my dad for like 2 minutes... He started worrying until my mouth got back to normal and told him not to worry.

Those damn lucky strippers...

My Gn'R highlight would be jr. high school.  This was ten years ago :o  I'm getting old.  

Tokyo 1992: Take away all the Excesses with the Backround Singers (TRACY AND ROBERTA) and horn Section. This is a damn fine show

Rock in Rio: Proved to Me that the new band is a force to be reckoned with

VMA's: The performance sucked, but it was damn exciting.

Madison Square Garden: From a Blitzerieg "Welcome to the Jungle" to a Newly Renergized "Paradise City". This show proved to be one of the best shows either of the bands ever done. The Atmosphere was Unbelievable as well.

Hi.  I am the newest member to the site, and a huge Gunners fan from back in '87.   I flew from Calgary to Vancouver to catch the opening nite of the North American CD Tour, but we all know what happened.  I would like to ask someone, or anyone out there to let me know if they know of any places in LA where Axl may hang out.  I assume the Troubador, and the Rainbow Bar & Grill, but I would like some input if anyone is willing.  I am going to LA in September, and am going to check out a few clubs.  Thanks for your assistance in advance, and I am looking forward to many more conversations on the site.  To all Gunner fans, keep the updates coming, they rock!

I have a weird highlight. It was the night GNR played at MSG.  I didnt go but theres a story behind it.  I wasnt a big GNR fan at the time so I didnt get tickets.  But, one of my coworkers was going and then I was like "it would rock if I went"  So i asked my bro if we could go and buy tickets outside MSG.  He said no and gave me a speech about how its not GNR anymore and blah blah.  And i got so pissed and i just spent that night listening to all the albums.  Then after I became a huge GNR fan like in a month, i come to this board and read about how MSG was one of the best GNr shows ever, which lead me to punch my bro in the arm as hard as i could the next time i saw him.

Another sorta highlight is when I wore my CHinese Democracy shirt to school and my friends would come up to me and be like (sarcasticly)"Did that album come out yet?" and I'd say "your gonna eat your words" and then they would say "I think Axl ate em that fat fuck"

When GNR were on top of the world I was about 8 years old and my country had just escaped 45 years of comunism,so,allthough they were my favourite band,I couldn' appreciate them like now.

Then,in '95 I bought Appetite for Destruction and I drove my friends crazy singing Paradise city all day long

One year later I put The Spaghetti Incident at a party and,to my surprise,everyone loved it and started banging their heads.

But the biggest moment was last year's VMA's.After about 30 seconds of complete astonishment,I started jumping around the TV like a madman,singing WTTJ along with Axl.I just couldn't believe my eyes.It was like September 11th,but in a god way

New poster here - who's been browsing this site for years now.... and a huge GNR fan.  Here's a few of my highlights in chronological order.  Sorry it's kind of long - I even narrowed it down.  Here's the top 10.

1.  Saw WTTJ on MTV around midnight one night on the Headbangers Ball.  Bought AFD the next day.

2.  Skipping high school the day GNR Lies came out and being blown away by
the acoustic material.

3.  Getting off work at 9:00 at night and racing 100 mph to the Hampton (Virginia) Coliseum to see them for the first time live.  They were already in the middle of Nighttrain that night.  (The ONE time they started on time)

4.  A huge highlight from me was the "surprise" appearance of Axl with Tom Petty on MTV.  I still get chills remembering how I felt - I watched the whole show hoping he would show up somehow.  Now that's dedication!  Thought Axl blew everyone away - and looked very cool as well.

5.  Getting together with friends to watch the PPV concert in Paris and the debut of the NR video right after it.  What a great day.

6.  As others mentioned - the GNR/Metallica/Faith No More show in Columbia SC.  My brother and I drove 3 hours in the middle of the night to get in line for tickets in Columbia - ended up in the 2nd row - unreal.  My MOTHER drove us to the show so we could drink  [beer] and waited in the car until it ended - at 2:15 AM or so.  Drove us back 3 hours immediately after.

7.  Listening to local radio for HOURS waiting to hear Oh My God.  Sitting up late waiting for the review of the House Of Blues show.

8.  The VMA "surprise".

9.  Getting my 5th row tickets for GNR in the MCI Center only to have the tour cancelled two shows prior.  :(

10.  Seeing the new band perform on DVD from Madison Square Garden.  This reassured me that ONE DAY when this new album comes out - they will rule rock music like they used to.  Axl Rose - even with the extra pounds & the goofy hair - still remains a genuine rock star like we haven't seen since.  If you haven't seen the bootleg of this concert - go get it!

Seeing GNR at Madison Square Garden 2002, a gig which was 1000% better than seeing GNR at MSG on the 1992 UYI tour.  Seeing GNR on 12/5/02 killed off whatever fond old memories I might have held on to regarding the old lineup.  A blizzard was not enough to keep me (and a sold out crowd) from seeing the best band in the world give what was one of the best performances that Axl Rose has ever given.  I had tickets to Philly the next night and even the no-show can't damper my memories of GNR at MSG.  Like many others, I hope another full fledged GNR tour occurs sooner than later because onstage is where Axl and company are untouchable.

man, that was a night...i remember on the T meeting an old guy who saw gnr back during the illusions...he didn't know much about the new band, so i was filling him in on the new members...it was great...once of those classic moments

Pretty much the whole 12-2 Boston show, because my best friend and I had been waiting for 7 years to see Axl live (it was one of the "goals" we had set for ourselves years ago). I've been to over 34 concerts, all of them major acts, (Aerosmith, Tom Petty, etc.) and the new GNR beat em' all. :)

2002 VMA's.When I first saw Axl do his little shuffle with the microphone I got goosebumps,then when I saw him run to the side of the stage and do the other Axl Rose shuffle......I got goosebump,then .......ah screw the whole fucking performance gave me goosebumps.It was awsome!

When my Cousin first played me Apetite for Destruction and Lies, I still remember the opening riff of Welcome to the Jungle coming on, I was six, AFD was a few years old and it was love at first sound

When i first heard November Rain, in 1991, sent chills up my spine it was so beutiful

GNR appearing at the VMA's in 2002, I totally had no clue it was coming that it blew me away,

How about lisenting to just about any GNR song at any time and in any mood and still even after the 10,000th time being blown away by it?

Thats my GNR highlight.

Hands down, my biggest GNR highlight was seeing them in Toronto........we had good seats.....I could feel the heat from the pyro stuff.......Bucket was great.....Axl sounded amazing.......the entire band was concise/precise......they played a lot of Appetite stuff.....Axl dicked around on the piano.......before guns hit the stage the girls were flashing the screens......and the screens kept showing an old man smoking a doob..........

i am yet to see guns live, but if i had that would surley be the biggest highlight. but i would have to say the day my dad gave me his copy AFD when i was about 4 or 5 (im only 17 now) eventhough i didnt have my own cd player. or the whole VMA' 02 thing was pretty amazing considering i had no idea and only really flicked over towards the end cause i herd pink say somthing bout axl bringin bucket head in the build up.

I can't remember them. I mean dates. So I will write here about events that have happened for about 12 years ago with no writing about dates. They aren't important.  ??? Or maybe they are but I wasn't ready to remember them. So I will start this game choosing my rules.
- Terminator2 (T2) - You could be mine, heard for the first time. Oh, my God, who's playing that extraordinary song? "Guns n' Roses" my sister said and added "Slash is the greatest guitar player at all"
- November rain - seen on MTV and recorded on my VCR  few days later. Supreme. They are Led Zepelin of my youth. Few days later I bought UYI1&2. Yeah, Axl Rose - my new middlename.
- Since I don't have you - seen on MTV one fine morning before I went to school.
- December 1995. - My mother came back from Australia and brought me Spaghetti CD. At that time you could buy only pyrat edition of that album in Yugoslavia (where I live).
- Sympathy for the devil - They are alive! (?) Are they. Some events announced misunderstandings between the members of GN'R.
- Chinese Democracy - that never appears.
- GN'R on WMAs. Axl sings better than ever, I suppose. Please Axl, hurry up, people want to have this album in their hands.

2002: Saw WTTJ video at a swedish channel which almost only plays new music like rnb. I was really amazed.

May 2003: Bought AFD cause PC was on it and I wanted to hear WTTJ, at that time, i'd only remember the chorus, and again I wasamazed hearing WTTJ.

This summer: Saw NR and KOHD and recorded them at VH1. Bought UYI 1&2 to hear those 2 songs, lucky me they where at different CDs.  :)

8'th sept: Viewers Choice Top 10 GnR, and my list of GnR's 10 best tracks was chosen. I'm almost famus now  ;)

22nd May, 1992, Budapest. My first (and the only one) GNR gig. Soundgarden was the first, Faith No More the second band. After FNM finished their set, we had to wait for almost 2 hours before Matt opened the GNR concert with Nightrain. I'll never forget that night.  : ok:

I have a few,

Firstly hearing paradise city for the first time which (since I am 18) was sometime halfway through 2001.

Then GN'R closing the VMAs that was fucking ACE.

And seeing them at Leeds festival last year in 2002, that was cool if weird and no where near the same as some of the original band gigs I saw on TV ten years ago, still cool to see AXL.

my greatest gn'r moment was seeing them come back to the limelight in the MTV VMA'S 2002.
 
    It seemed like our seemingly eternal wait had ended, but that wasn't how it was meant to be ...

Had to be in the summer of '91, right before the UYI albums were released.  Saw them in Toronto (CNE), and they played for like 3 hours.  At one point Axl said something like "We know you've heard a lot about the new albums, so we're gonna' take some requests It was incredible, because people were just shouting out song titles that they hadn't heard yet, like "Back off Bitch," or November Rain, which was incredible.  That was the best concert I've ever been to.  Ever.    :smoking:

My greatest gnr highlight will live forever....here's why...

I was relaxing one day last May on the hub, when a girl there asked about the Asshole Song from the Albany show last year, since I had just got that show on DVD and loved it, I told her that I could get it to her etc...anyways, this girl and I started talking to each other on a day by day basis and before long we both could feel that our connection was more than just a rock band....

I found out that her name was Marcela and that she lives in Brazil, which at the time was interesting, although unfortunate since I live in Indiana...so that was a bit of a concern for me but nonetheless I felt I was falling in love, so we started talking about the possibility of me taking a trip to Brazil to meet her.   Around the same time the topic of engagement and marriage began popping up in our conversations from time to time....which, I know, seems totally crazy....seeing how we never had even met in person, but love is a powerful thing...

Anyways, the summer flew by and we decided that September 8th would be when I would make the trip from Dale Indiana to Vitoria Brazil......with the hope that when I returned home I would have a wife...

When I arrived it was magical, every connection that we had made online or when we talked on the phone was even stronger in person, the love that we have for each other was as crystal clear as the ocean...

So, we are married now, for the most part, we still have to wait for some papers to be signed, because of the international marriage it's a little complicated, but the point is still the same.......we love each other and we solidified that the best we could to this point...

As far as our future is concerned, everything looks perfect...as soon as she can, Marcela is going to come to the states and we are going to move to LA  to start our life together.....It's going to be perfect...

This is without a doubt, my favorite gnr highlight, if it hadn't been for our love for guns n roses, Marcela and I would've never met, and also, if Axl hadn't played a few bars of the Asshole Song in Albany....I probably wouldn't be married....

so in a big way, I owe my life to Guns N' Roses...

But:

-When I listened to Civil War with head phones for first time
-Buying all the CD's

There are so many, but a few amazing ones to tell you are:

1) driving all around Toronto with AFD blasting from my BMW when I was 18. and having everyone stare because the music was so crazy for a yuppie kid at the time.(1989)

2) going to CNE to see GNR after a little bit of Jack Daniels in 91' and having Axl accept my 12 red roses from the front row. and seeing him smile right infront of me!

3) going to Hamilton, Ontario to see GNR in 92' and feeling the really intimate toned down version of UYI tour (AXL on guitar, sitting on the stage singing and talking).

4) Seeing them 1st row dead centre in T.O Nov/02 and Buckethead throwing me a toy!
     (Screaming AXL's name so loud that I could hardly talk for days).

5)  Waking up the next morning knowing I was going to see him again that night in London, Ont. 2nd row centre stage.

6) Staying in the same hotel as the crew in London, Ont and waiting up till 5:00am to see if AXL would walk in. (he was long gone though).

7)Staying at Bellagio in Vegas last summer 03, and someone saying AXL was in Vegas. Keeping my eyes open everywhere for him. (made the trip more exciting).

I'm sure there will be more this year coming 2004.

I have a friend who get's passes to watch concerts from the side of the stage. He is very good friends with the guys from Mettalica. : ok:

1991 - Didn?t care about GNR. Didn?t go to RIR II. Thought it was too rock n roll for me... was listening to pop radio music shit at that time.

1992 - Started to hear GNR. Recorded in a tape my favorite songs from the illussions, borrowed from a friend in high school. Liked GNR but just like any other band. The tape had DC original, NR, LALD, KOHD, YCBM, CW, Yesterdays, So Fine, Dead Horse, Back off Bitch & Locomotive.

1994 - Started recording GNR videos from MTV. / Bought TSI & UYI I & II

1995 - Bought AFD - Mr.Brownstone was my favorite. People were envy because I bought the imported one (with the cross cover) and everybody had the original cover version (was not banned here in Brazil)

1996 - Felt in love for Estranged, listening to it 10 / 15 times a day, paying attention to every litlle sound. Bought the Making of Estranged. Played the video about 5 times a day.

1997 - Bought NR and DC making of?s.

1998 - Discovered MP3 / Simpathy for the Devil was my first- played it A LOT!!!! A friend from Law school borrowed me CD?s and I copied them. Brazil lost world cup to France... what a shame! :no:

1999 - awful year.... nothing happened!

2000 - Discovered the Internet / starded to search for GNR news and found HTGTH / RIR III is announced and GNR was going to be there!!! Discovered OMG. didn?t like it.

January, 14&15, 2001 - Best musical experience ever. AXL and the new GNR playing the classics and 5 new songs in front of me and other 199,999 people from all over the world. In the middle of them I suddenly found my old friend who borrowed me the Illusion CD?s I recorded. I was there with my girlfriend and her brother. FUCKIN? AMAZING!!! I turn to be a GREAT GNR fan!!!

Rest of 2001 - The Blues - favorite tune ever!!!! Started to visit HTGTH an MyGnr everyday, reading mainly the news sections. Madagascar is amazing as well... / Bought RIR III VHS bootleg

2002 - Started reading message boards in search for info about CD and the tour. Bought UYI DVD?s (Brazilian bootleg versions). Brazil win world cup over Germany...  :)

2003 - Started posting on HTGTH message board. Stoped reading MyGnr full of bullshit info. The wait for CD gets more and more desperate.

2004 and beyond - Will buy WTTV DVD / CD is released / RIR-Lisbon with many new songs / Europe tour / New GNR DVD released / Amazing new videos... etc...  :beer:

24 August 2002, Guns N'Roses in Belgium...

I went there with a lot of friends. I was waiting this day for such a long time... I was like:"This day will be the best day of my life" etc...

It has been the best day of my life, but not because of GNR.

I met there the woman of my life.

We're together for about one year and a half now, we're engaged and we're so happy together. I'll go live in Belgium with her this summer for at least 3 years.

Without Axl and Guns N'Roses, I would never have met her. So I have to thanks Axl for that!

The show was incredible by the way... ;D

Let me just put it this: AFD saved and changed my life just because the album is filled with so much emotion and songs that anyone can relate to.

The moment Welcome to the Jungle was on I knew I was in for a hell of a ride with this new CD and I decided to listen to it non-stop all the way through.
AFD is what GNR mostly represents to me and that's why it is the biggest highlight. After all it put them on the throne of the rock world and impacted me personally.

July 25, 1992, myself and my 3 best friends all 18 years old having an older sister drive us from Syracuse to Buffalo to see GNR.  Getting wasted on wine coolers all the way there (great designated driver) and proceeding to drink even more in the parking lot.  Summer in between high school and college, good times.  Faith No More sucked, Metallica was good, and GNR was the greatest.

December 2, 2002, myself and 2 of my best friends drinking at his Boston apartment before taking the subway drunk to FleetCenter...absolutely incredible experience.  Screaming myself hoarse the entire time...LALD live was insane, Madagascar was awesome.

GNR holds a very special place in my heart.  I just hope I don't have to wait until 2012 to see them again!!!!!!!!!!!!

When i first heard sweet child of mine and paradise city

the concert in 1992 in Rotterdam, me and a friend waited for 5 hours before axl started the show (first soundgarden and faith no more), the concert was due to end at 23.00 pm, axl told all of us (40.000 people) to ask for more, lots of police. Awsome concert!!

So I guess I'll introduce myself then, too. Being the newest member of the forum and all  ;) Hello everybody, BC here.

And to the highlights.

So year 1992 I heard uyi2, when my old childhood friend came to celebrate new years eve, immediately I was hooked, and soon i borrowed afd, lies and uyi from the local libary and copied them on cassette. It took a while longer to buy them all.  (And now I would have them all, but some fucker broke in my car and stole everything in it). Me want to do some homicide >:(

But gnr was a huge part of my life since 92 and caused me to end up so many fights at "lower levels of the comprehensiveschool"(which would've been avoided with less pride and temper, or starting to listen "New Kid On The Block" or some other of mainstream music, and eventually I ended up talking several times with the headmaster. But I never hit first  ;) so I really wasn't the one to blame.

T2 and UCBM had a huge impact on me also and I was in heaven for weeks, damn thats a good song! And now songs like Estranged, Don't Cry and November Rain are also so very special to me (also as bedroom music  :o), as are wttj and other gnr hits (as bedroom music...  ???).

Now I'm waiting for Chinese Democracy, or the VR new album

Even now everytime when we drink  beer etc. with friends, we have to watch some gnr videos (at least don't cry and ucbm) before we take a taxi to the town and enter the nightlife.

One other thing; does anybody know if gnr shirts are available sleevles for males? Or how the female ones would fit a male? Since I have some ink done on my shoulder and would prefer to show it  ;D

- Leeds 2002   They played amazing! Me and my brother in front waiting for axl and band for four hours! It was worth it, thou I thought it was MyDoom :beer:

Whatever year the VMA's were- This was the first time I really saw GN'R. I saw Axl and was blown away. Here was this ridiculously cool geezer absolutely wailing like I'd never seen before (previous experience Papa Roach etc ::))

So I investigated. I bought AFD & UYI I. The second most important Guns moment. That was it man, rock n roll was born for me. It was no longer a piece of history, it lived and breathed and cursed and sweat and carried me away right in my own room. It was amazing. It took my guitar playing to a whole new level too, away went the Drop-D power chords and in came pentatonic scales, solos and the blues. Which lead me to early rock n' roll, followed by the blues, right back to Robert Johnson.

Then came November Rain. Through a 28.8k internet connection, I sat for about 11 hours and downloaded the whole video. Probably one of the most worthwhile thing I've ever done. It blew me away even more than the albums.

There we go. That about rounds it up.

Naaaaahhhhhhh nothing to report. I did hear about Billy Kelly from TypeO'Negative passing away yesterday. Happenin' Harry sent me an email. I just saw him and was in his company last Friday night on the 30th of January when Harry and Dizzy came to Leo's Bar and Grill in Romeoville to do a gig. Billy flew in from New York and Harry introduced him to us. Sad.....he was only 29 I guess. So many friends of Harry's and Dizzy that have left this world lately. I'm just a bit depressed at the moment and wish everyone that knew Billy my deepest condolences.

29?  That's really sad, that's so young!

GNR Highlights:

Past

1. Appetite. That album helped me through difficult times. Taught me to play the drums and since then has provided endless 'rock concerts' and fun.

2. Can't remember the precise date (maybe 88 or 89), but the BBC ran a series of programmes called 'Heavy Metal Heaven', years and years ago. One of the programmes was Guns and Roses 'Live at the Ritz'. OLD SCHOOL, they played most of the Appetite songs. I still have the video. Its fucking awesome, a genuine masterpiece. Forget the Use Your Illusion DVD's this is the video they should have released! (P.S. If anyone knows how to convert VHS into CDROM or DVD format I'd love to know how)

3. Axl actually turning up to the Leeds gig two years ago. Hearing Jungle blast out.

4. Seeing Chinese Democracy Release Date being announced by Geffen

5. Getting the masterpiece in my hands, having a HUGE playback party with my mates and any other hardcore GNR fans that want to join me!

GNR AFD was the first tape that I ever listened to or bought that wasn't my parents music.  I was in the 2nd grade and some dude on the bus gave me the tape.  He didn't want his parents to find out he bought it from someone at school.  I had to give it back though, so I dubbed a copy for myself and that was it.  I didn't listen to another tape for three years.  Just AFD over and over again until one day when I was rewinding it, the tape broke.  That sucked.

GnR was, is, and will always be my favorite band.  

I finally saw GNR 12/31/01 in Las Vegas.  I was 2 feet away from the stage and I couldn't have had a better time.  I saw them twice more on the Chinese Democracy tour in Boston and Hartford.  And although I never got to see the original line-up (except for videos and dvd's) I truly think the new line-up is so much better.

2000-I bought the GnR lies.fucking good album.Then AFD , awsome.I lerned all Guns n Rosesthe biography.
2001-Seeing  gnr in RnR 3.And buiyng UYI 1 n 2.

I was 13 when I first heard a GN'R song,the song was Welcome To The Jungle,that was back in 88 when I heard it and I have been listinging to GN'R since then.Also hearing the song Sweet Child O'Mine was the reason I started playing guitar. :yes:

I can play enough to write songs but thats it.  I love sweet child, It reminds of someone I knew when I was very young.

Axl is so lucky to have the love and support of everybody here, who wishes him well.  Can't wait to here the news on his May show.  Wish I was there to share.

-Hearing you could be mine for the first time (the anticipation for UYI was immense for me, could Guns ever live up to appetite?? um...Yeah!!!)

But most of all was the show at MSG in Dec 02.  My first (hopefully not last!!) guns show.  I never got to see them when I was a kid.  Axl sounded great, the show was amazing, we got beers before hand at a place in Penn Station called "roses".  We were totally plowed drinking the commuter 16 ounce bud cans.  Crapping myself when they played rocket queen. my friends and i were so shit faced, we were too pumped to waste a time going to the bathroom so we just pissed all over the aisle.  ROCK N ROLL!!! haha
then afterwards we were so wired we just walked around manhattan for hours recounting the night.  Easily one of the top 5 nights of my life.

1. 1987 - Hearing AFD when I was 15 at my friends house.  Went out and bought it immediately.  :D
2. 1991 - Got up and went to the record store at 7am to by UYI 1& 2.  :D
3. 1992 - Columbia SC.  My first and only live GNR concert.   :beer:
4. 2002 - Purchased RIR3 on VHS, terrible copy.  :P
5. 2002 - MTV Music Awards.  :D
6. 2002 - Greenville SC show cancelled.  :'(
7. 2004 - Just purchased from e-bay MSG (DVD) RIR3 (CD) from e-bay.  Can't wait for them to arrive!  :beer:

-Hearing Paradise City for the first time in 1990 when I was 13 or something
-Getting the AFD and UYI albums in 1991 and started really getting into GNR. also saw the YCBM video on finnish TV
-Watching the Paris concert on finnish television in 1992. Closest I've ever gotten to seeing GNR live.
-Bought the SFTD single in 1994. I thought that things were finally gonna start to happen again in the GNR camp, but boy was I wrong...
-Bought the End Of Days soundtrack in 1999 just because of the new GNR song. After I realised that Oh my God was pretty much crap I almost smashed the damn thing.
-bought Live-Era in 1999. It blew me away and I got sad that the classic lineup had broken up, because they were a great live band. I also boght the Tokyo dome videos at that time.
-Bought a VHS of RIR3 in 2001 and even though it wasn't of the best possible quality I got convinced that maybe there's still a future for GNR. I was very positively impressed with The Blues and Masagaskar.
-MTV VMAs in 2002. I Live in Finland and it was early friday morning when the show was drawing towards it's end. I had a tape waiting in my VCR just in case GNR would appear..and they did!

Not much to report since then. I'm waiting for my copy of GH to arrive. I've been waiting and speculating about Chinese Democracy for about six years now. Not expecting anything, but if they ever get it released it'll be a pleasant surprise.

ive never seen them live and I have one bootlegged cd of theirs. I didnt like guns n roses when they first came out> I thought they were awful i couldnt stand them. then i heard sweet child of mine and I was hooked after that I really got into them. now i love them and i listen to them as often as I can. trying to get my nine almost ten year old daughter into guns n roses so far though she likes briteny spears and my son four likes waht sissy likes I met axl rose when i was sixteen he was really nice i went to school with his brother stuart who was also really nice. rock on guys and I'm sure CD will be worth the long wait.

I first listened to GNR in 1990 when we finaly had MTV (it was after the revolution), and the first video of them that I saw was Sweet child o'mine. I was frozen in front of the tv. I used to listened to them all the time in my teens. When they broked up a part of me died. I saw the MTV Music Awards and I realy liked Madagascar, but it is not  the same without Slash, Duff, Matt.
Unfortunately GH will not  make its appearence in Romania.
Nither will CD ig it 'll ever be released.

Wow, where to start?  
1.  Seeing GNR live in 1988 at Danville, IL.  Small show, about 5,000 and it was just a month or so before GNR exploded.  Great show, tons of raw energy from a young and hungry band.

2.  Arranging an orthodontist appointment to coincide with the Illusion release date

3.  Seeing the GNR, Metallica, and faith no More show in Indianapolis in 1992.  GNR was 2 hours late to the stage but there was a nice titty show during the wait!

4.  Seeing Izzy's old house outside of Lafayette.

5.  Working with former school mates of Izzy and Axl and seeing yearbook photos of a middle school aged Bill Baily.

6.  Seeing pictures of a coworker doing coke with Axl after the 88 Danville show.

7.  Seeing the New GNR at the House of Blues, Las Vegas for New Year's 01.  First show in 10 years, $250/ticket, 4,000 miles roundtrip and one blistering version of Paradise City to close the show.

8.  2002 Chicago show with the new band and hearing Madagascar for the first time.

my gnr highlight was when i got appetite for destruction in 7th grade. when i first got the cd, i was completely blown away with it, and i listened to the whole thing like every day. i am still obsessed with that cd; its probably my favorite.

I was in the sixth grade and are school was having a talent show and these guys played welcome to the jungle. I was hooked I went home watched the video and then bought the album.

My favorite moment is when GNFR excepted the award on live tv and slash and duff were drunk off there ass and said the F word twice on live tv I thought you dont get cooler than these guys.

 The first concert I saw was on pay per view at the hippodome I think thats the name and soundgarden opened up for them that ruled.

Then I thought I was the baddest thing since bread when I got my AFD and slashes snakepit tattoos.

My favorite scene in a video is on dont cry when slash drive his car off the cliff and starts to play his solo on the top of the road.

How about when nirvana called out axl on stage on the music awards and security had to stop axl from goig to the nirvana trailer.

 GNFR rules anything they do or say is cool to me.

only highlight i have worth mentioning.

1991/ i was 10, and i had seen the YCBM videos enough times to tell me i needed UYI 2. so i got my brother to buy me that one. loved it. maybe a month later, i went to whatever store with my dad and showed him UYI 1 and he got it for me. i remember being way excited because a couple of my friends were going to come over and we were all apeshit over GNR by that time. so the next morning my mom asks me what i got from the store and i tell her. then she tells me to bring it to her. so i bring her the tape cover (i knew where this was going). then she tells me to bring her the tape. so i bring it and she says you'll get it back when youre 18.
  throughout the years my GNR intensity faded, but by the time i was a senior in high school, a friend of mine brought AFD to school, and i wanted to listen to it as a joke. by that time i was into street punk rock, and figured the butt rock would be a good joke to laugh at. then listening to it, i started enjoying more than i was supposed to.
  Christmas time 1998, i went to a girlfriend's uncles house and he had AFD on LP. i pulled it aside to listen to that night, and he told me i could keep it. that he didn't want it anymore. (take note that these moments are building up).
  April 1, 1999. im 18 years old. i ask my mom for my tape, kind of hoping she'd lost it so i could hold the fact that she went against her word over her head forever, and she gives it to me. this totally seals the deal. every song got more and more familiar and i've been a GNR freak since!

The first time I heard a GN'R song was when watching a movie called The Program, I asked my dad who it was and a new GN'R fan was born.

The first GN'R album i bought was Live Era i wasnt a big fan yet and there was no Greatest Hits yet so this was the closest thing and when listen to these songs I became... well obsessed.

My first GN'R show and only one was in 2002, unfortunetly I wasnt old enough and didnt know about the original GN'R until it was to late

And just for the record there is no reason why Estranged shoudnt be on GN'R Greatest Hits

I've only became a GnR fan quite recently.....

I first heard bits of SCOM and PC in early 2003, but I didn't like them much at first, I thought they were a load of old time rubbish. But later on, at the beginning of 2004 I think, I saw the video for SCOM and I listened to the whole thing, and then I realised that they were quite good, and they were not old time junk at all. I wanted to hear more of GnR, so I nicked my Dad's UYI and AFD albums and I instantly fell in love with them, every song I heard I liked them better. My friends are so bored of hearing about Guns n Roses now!  ;)

i want 2 add the success of gh to this because it has gotten everyone talking about them again : ok:

I bought a music magazine in 1992 (mayby) and i was listening totally different kind of music than gnr. In that magazine i saw a picture of Axl on stage during their UYI-tour. On that picture there was something in his eyes, fire, anger etc. And i started to read the article over and over again. The article was about the dangerous band in the world and how duff and slash were drunk during the press in Stockholm.
One saturday night i recorded from the radio my first gnr song, estranged and i was sold. After that came you could mine, then the all the records.
After i red that slash had left the band, i "forgot" the band and its music.Then came live era and I bought it, and i was back in the days when i first found gnr.
And now lots of my freetime goes in this forum reading all the news that i can find.
hopefully we someday can hear new music from them.but if not, they have give us so much good songs and times. they did five records that last forever.

i was getting shitfaced watching terminator 2 and heard YCBM, then downloaded 2002 WMA's

yesterday at midnight I was driving home from a caf? (30 min drive), decided to put on GH and damn, it was magical, singin along the whole drive!!

My biggest gnr highlight besides seeing them before the break up was meeting slash at cbgb's in the early 90's.. It was the coolest experience, he was very down to earth, just like a drinking bud, not a rockstar..

The 1st time I saw GNR was Aug 1988, they opened for Aerosmith at the Arena in St. Louis.  SOLD OUT, and everyone was there to see GNR(Aerosmith had just played StL 6 mo prior.  The first time I heard "Patience".  On "Sweet Child.." Slash started the intro and about 10 seconds into he screwed up, stopped(the place went nuts),then he started over again.  GREAT Concert

The 2nd time i saw GNR, July 2, 1991 at Riverport(THE RIOT).  Best seats I ever had there, and the 2nd show ever at the venue.  The show was going great.  Axl told a story of when he was hitchhiking from Indiana to LA, was in StLouis, and all he had was a few bucks and 1/2 a joint, so he went down to the Arch, and smoked a joint underneath the Arch.  We all loved that.   Then he said a trucker picked him up, and in his words "he tried to fuck me!"  Then he said he put a knife to the guys throat, etc..., then they played "Jungle". unfortunately, the next song was "Rocket Queen", Axl went after the assmunch with the camera, and well the rest is history.  We stayed around for most of the carnage that followed, until a few idiots behind us starting breaking their chairs, and we knew if we didn't leave, we might get hit.  What really blows about the riot, was that show was really going great, heard "Nov. Rain", and a bunch of songs that would eventually be on "Illusion I and II", but
it happened.  I will say, only about 200 assholes tore up the place, everyone else just tried to get out safely.  Some didn't make it out without a broken leg.

3rd time I saw them, Kansas City, 1992 Guns/metallica, Ice T opened (cop killer), then Metallica, then after a 2 hour wait, GNR.  They opened with "Jungle".  Axl ranted about the StL riot, and when he was about done with his rant, he told Slash to get a different guitar, "I've got another idea", So Slash had his double ax guitar ready to play "Knockin on Heaven's Door", at the front of the stage, he hauled ass to the back of the stage, to get a diff. guitar, and they played "Out to Get Me"

Mine definetly is the performance in 2002 at the MTV Music Awards...I was talking to the girlfriend on the phone and i seen Jimmy Fallon talking about Patience and all this stuff...but as soon as he said Welcome To The Jungle...i hung the phone up lol....i was freakin out,i couldnt belive it...then watching the Sweet Child O Mine and Estranged Videos...i love the way Axl danes is Child...and i love the live performance is Estranged and when he jumps off the ship...But my biggest highlight was seeing Axl play the starting of November Rain at Rio 3 on the Piano...it was so amazing...so there are my GNR highlights..im only 15 so i hope theres lots more to come...Malcolm

When I first started my family I was at home a lot with MTV on in the background while I ran around the house. Most of what I heard sucked I thought but it was at least something to listen to. One day this fantastic music caught my attention and I had to go see. Of course it was GNR and I saw this singer that was out of this world just getting down with Welcome to the Jungle. I was thrilled and shocked all at the same time. Thrilled that something was good and shocked that MTV knew it and had it on. Then, in a classic parent child moment, my little daughter said to me "What's rock n' roll?" And I said, "That is." I pointed to the TV screen. She got an ear and eye full of the real thing that day and she never had to ask me again. We went to Hollywood after that and the rest is history. I was inspired to resume my music  because at least there was a reason to care, now.

Hav'nt seen them live (was to young), but did see Duff at the Barrowlans in Glasgow around 1995?

They where meant to play  at the SECC Glasgow in Dec 2001, but cancelled the tour stating "It was to risky to fly after 9/11".

Seeing The Best Two bands ever perform together was special to me. KOHD was amazing. As was Axl's bit in Bohemian Rhapsody and Slash's Tie Your Mother Down.

Finally I've decided to post here.

It's so hard though, there are so many of them....

1) Summer of '88. My friend had just gone to Ireland to spend the summer ther and brought back AFD. He told me, "check this out man, this song SCOM is cool". I was not even 13 then and from that day on, music would have never be the same for me.

2) Summer of '91. Watched YCBM video and almost had a heart attack. I remember I would watch this show in TV ( back then we didn't have MTV) everyday to catch the video to tape it.

3) Sept 17th 1991. Guns N' Roses released UYI and II. I  told my mom to buy the albums for me. When I came back from school, she had only bought UYII. 10 days later, my sister got me UYI as a birthday present.

4) June 30th 1992. Guns N' Roses played in Seville, Spain. I also had tickets to the Madrid show a week later but unfortunately, that show was canceled. Anyway, seeing Guns the first time live was one of the best days of my life.

5) July 6th 1993. Guns N' Roses show in Madrid. This one from the Skin and Bones european leg. This was just the band playing without the orchestra and shit. Seeing Guns was great, but the sound was shit. Also, I went to that show with friend of mine who two years later would become my girlfriend for the next seven years. Trying to get her back, by the way.

6) October 30th 1996. Axl sends fax to MTV. It was the first statement I've heard from Axl in years. The rumors I've read turned out to be true, Slash was out of the band. Duff and Matt were threatend. I thought, this is the end of Guns N' Roses.

7) Sometime in 97. I discovered this site. To this date, it has become my source of news. I didn't register till last year though.

8) March 2000. Not sure about the date though. First interview Axl conceids in years. I don't think I've ever paid so much attention to an article in my life. The possible album release got me excited again.

9) December 2000. Guns N' Roses to perform in Las Vegas!!! fuck, I almost bought a ticket for that. I was jobless at the time, so I've almost pawn my computer, cds, jewlry, sister...just to go to that show. I download all the new songs as soon sas they became available.

10) April 2001. GNR to tour Europe!!!!! I bought tickets but the european tour was cancelled due to Buckethead's illness.

11) August 2002. Guns N' Roses on MTV. I have read the rumors in this board so there I was until 4 am watching the show. When Jimmy Fallon said, " I love New York, this is like the jungle, MTV has asked this coming band to perform the last 4 years....guns N' fucking Roses!!!!!!!" or something along those lines...I even get cold chills now when I think about it. That was a moment. I was screaming, dancing, jumping...Axl rose himself was performing live on MTV again 10 years later.

12) Feb 2004. buckethead leaving the band. At that moment I thought GNR was over.

13) Nov 2004. Release of Chinese democracy????

Lucky thirteen?

I was an exchange student in the States in -88 and heard SCOM in the radio. I immediately rushed to the record store to buy Appetite. The best memory is when I was laying in my bed in Nebraska in the middle of the cornfields and hearing Mr. Brownstone from the cassette for the first time. I blew my mind and changed my life forever.

My friend has a good story too. He was doing his military service in Finland in -88 and he was walking in the corridor in their barrack when he suddenly heard music like he had never heard before coming from one of the cabins. He looked inside and saw ten guys sitting on the floor listening to the cassette player as if they were in a trance. One of the guys' friend had brought Appetite from America and it was something completely mind-blowing to everybody.

buying appetite for destruction has to be the biggest moment(since i never had the chance to see them live :'()

My highlights were when Axl showed up at my house in his limo, we drove to the Fire Belly, got fucked up then fucked all night. He even bought me breakfast in the morning!! More cum on my bagel. :o  :peace:

That show kicked serious ass and I'm glad I was there because the tour got cancelled shortly after. :-[ :crying:

         I can't pick just one so......freddie mercury tribute show(we will rock you).....first time i saw the "sweet child" video.....and the 4 "shows" i saw......buffalo '92, cleveland,albany,philly '02...(that last one was a "riot")...ha ::)

Lets see, I have been putting off this thread for sometime now. But since I got laidoff I guess I have the time to post on it, finally. First off great Idea on the thread Jarmo!

1. Hearing Axl's voice when WTTJ first came out. I was blown away.
2. Going and getting the Ill on tape the first day they came out. Since have gone threw a few copies on tape and cd.
3. (smeagol2124) I see you were at the Alpine Valley shows. I live and hour and a half from there, but could not go. I Was at my highschool graduation. I wish I could have gotten someone to go with me. Later found out a good freind got to go to second show at last minute. I will never forgive her. Thoughts shows make me cringe everytime I hear about them.
4. (popcorn) I see you were at the Iowa City show in March of 93. So was I my first GNR show. and I agree, it was the best by far show I had ever seen up til then. Did you see the guy fall all the way down the concrete steps and get back up. Man. While I was there, I just missed the band going in for sound check,
5. Getting to meet Matt in Madison WI. in May of 94. He was really nice, though I thought a little fake. He was more into going out and getting drunk. But it was still cool I talked to him for a couple of minutes and got his autograph.
6. Putting in my bootleg to Rio 2000. I didn't have the internet then so my info. wasn't that good. By Knockin on Heavens door, I was crying. I was blown away and to this day love that version of the song. Also loved seeing Axl with Beta at the and, started crying again. Was so glad to see the real Axl.
7. Hearing GnR was going to be in Vegas At the house of blues and blowing it off, thinking it would be a private thing. Still didn't have internet to get info. I will regret that one as long as I live.
8. Getting tickets to both shows at The Joint, in Vegas. Never had been there and had never flown. Best f@#king time of my life. I met a guy on the plane on the way there who was going, met a couple in airport in Vegas also going. They all had gone to the last show. I ended up in the 3rd row in front of Robin the first night, My friend almost got hit by Robins guitar when he was throwing it around. The second night I shook Dougies hand.  Thought shows were the best I have ever seen. Oh ( rain) Maybe we were standing next to each other!
9. I forgot one. Just before Vegas, I got to take part in putting a full page ad in the L.A. Weekly for GNR Welcome back. By the way thanks again for letting me take part in that. At the first show at The Joint, Axl held a copy up and thanked us!!!!!!!!!!
10. Chicago 2002, Stayed at the same hotel as band, friend saw Robin down the hall. and We saw Mix master Mike and his guys eating after the show in the hotel. This is the single best sounding show I have ever been too. The bootlegs do nothing for it. Axl was amazing that night.
11. Sense then I have collected may gnr items and met many gnr fans on line. It has been amazing and I hope it goes on for a long long time.
12. In Feb. of 92 I got a GNR tattoo, of Axl's blue rose and a pair of guns. I have several tats but it will always be my favorite.

I heard GNR for quite some time and was never much into them. I was never watching during the MTV days. However, I got into watching the music videos on VH1 Classic. One day I saw the video for November Rain and loved it as well as the song so much. That got me to want to pay more attention to their other music as well as their videos and now I really like them and have bought a couple of their CDs.

I think seen the new Band"GN'R" live and meeting some of the new members has nothing to do with this post.  This post is all about your GN'R highlights,GUNS AND ROSES. It's not about people and songs that will never have connection to the real GN'R.  (exept for Axl)  :peace:

The break up was a combination of many things, that's my opinion. I don't think there's one bad guy and the rest are all innocent. They grew apart, wanted different things etc. GN'R's not the only band who have had this problem.




The "promises" don't bother me. If a tour gets cancelled or something, yeah it's sad. But I don't dwell on it for years. He said the album was supposed to be out in 2001, it didn't happen. I don't keep whining about it three years afterwards.

Sure, it would be great if the album was out already, but it isn't. No big deal, there's other records to listen to.


I'm here because I think he's a talented guy. I think that whenever he releases that album, it'll be something I'd like to hear. Some of you seem to be here because you liked Axl in 1987 and want to remind everybody that Axl in 2004 sucks. If that's all you're here for, then you're in the wrong place

Mine has to be September 16th (or 17th?) 1991 in New Zealand where i finally brought the Use your Illusion twins which I had been waiting since 1989 for. (I was 14 years old at the time!)I tell you it felt like an eternity of a wait for those albums (sound familiar?) but the anticipation and ecstasy of waiting for that day where I could go to the record shop and buy those albums, well nothing has compared since to the excitment surrounding those albums in my music buying career - that was truly special day!  : ok:

well, i don't have a single highlight or so, but when it's late and i'm in a special mood, i put estranged on repeat. i listen to it like 10 times or so until i fall alseep.

i remember when there used too be MTV GUNS N ROSES Weekend on MTV! Back in the days! That was sooo great! I got alot of copys on VHS! One moment that gave me goosebumps, was when i saw Tribute to Freddy Mercery on TV about 13 years ago!!! When Axl came running in on Boheam. Singing with Elton John.. I also remember when i first saw the You could be mine video! I LOVED it! Damn! back in the days, Axl were my hero!

Persuading my folks to play Appetite on long car journeys and then distracting them when the line 'Why don't you just....' came on in its so easy!

Well I only became a fan of Guns N' Roses in 1999 when Live Era was released, but my first experience was watching Terminator 2: Judgment Day in theatres and hearing You Could Be Mine. 7 years later I saw a commercial for Guns N' Roses Live Era and I looked on the back and saw You Could Be Mine. I decided to buy the album and realized I saw other songs I had heard about (i.e. Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine) When I listened to the album, I was floored. Nightrain, Paradise City, so many great songs. My love for Limp Bizkit and KoRn and Nu-Metal was instantaneously gone and I fell in love with Guns N' Roses. At the same time I bought the Jan.2000 issue (I believe) of Guitar World and it had the complete Guns story. Opening the page to see the guys standing infront of a huge crowd was insane. They truly were the band that time forgot because I couldn't believe myself and no one from today really had a sense of Gn'R's historical signifigance to music. I was so intrigued I bought everything I could that was Gn'R related.

And well here I am, hoping one day Slash and Axl and the boys get back together  ;D

Seeing Buckethead and Axl live twice was great.  I just hope Buckethead is going to come back, and this new band will take over with it's OWN material and not over 80% worth of covers of the old bands tunes.  Sure WTTJ, SCOM, November Rain, Paradise City, you can keep.  The rest needs to be NEW tunes and we'll have the best rock band ever begin to surface.

Hi all, fresh fish here. Been coming here for years, but this is my first post. Let me start off by saying that this is as close to an official GnR site as there is on the net. Great work Jarmo. Now on topic, the first time I heard GnR was when AFD was first released. From the opening licks of Jungle, I was hooked. Nothing like Axl's scream to get the blood pumping. Especially to a 16 or 17 year old. Needless to say, I've been draggin my heels with a bitch called GnR ever since. To me, there is no other singer that reaches me like Axl. I saw them in concert in 91 or 92(little fuzzy) with Skid Row in Charlotte, NC. My computer has basically become GnR central. Well, I guess there's no hope for me, but that's ok. Blame Canada : ok:

i was watching MTV classic about 3 yrs ago n they had a GnR special ...i was blown away when i heard sweet child of mine n i was like damn this band is fukin good, im gona buy their albums immediately.......n there was this time when one of my closest friend stole the girl i really loved...n boy i was pissed!......so i sat back,cranked up the volume n listen to november rain n used to love her and i felt much better after tat !   : ok:

April 1992 - A friend borrowed me a tape of UYI1 and Lies. I remember recording the first 4 tracks from Lies, Live and let die and Don' t cry to a tape and listening to them like crazy. That was the start.
June 1992 - Paris show was broadcasted on Tv for free so i saw it. I knew only a few of the songs, but every time i could after that, i would play it on my vcr.
December 1992 - I was not allowed by my father to see the December 5th show, but since no incidents happened, my father took me to the December, 6th show. First time i saw GNR live, i remember they started with It' s so easy, played Bad Obsession, Civil War got interrupted because of people throwing things at the stage and my father and me left the show before Paradise city, cause the fear of disaster persisted. I didn' t know a lot of the songs cause the only GNR stuff i had at that point was a recorded tape and the incomplete Paris vhs...
December 26th 1992 - My birthday came. Money was given to me so i bought the only 4 GNR albums available. Now, they are the most played albums in my collection.
July 16th 1993 - My father took me to the show. It was awesome. I remember Welcome to the jungle got interrupted, hearing Dead Flowers for the first time. I had my father at my side so he told me which that song was. That was the last time i saw GNR live.
November 1993 - I bought The Spaghetti Incident? the day it came out. 2 weeks earlier i taped Ain' t it fun from the radio and listened to it again and again. I remamber bringing TSI? to school and everyone was astonished cause no one knew it came out.
July 1995 - Went to Slash' s Snakepit' s 2 gigs here. The day before the first one, Slash, Eric, Gilby and Brian Tichy signed autographs, and i got to meet Slash!
August 2001 - I met Gilby and Steven, Steven was so nice but he has problems with his talking. They put shows together.

going to Germany and buying a few GNR singles--they are rare over here in Canada

Watching GNR for the first (and so far only) time in 2002 in Toronto---row 30.  Loving every moment

Watching VR twice (at the Kool Haus and the ACC at Toronto) and meeting the members...(whole story in itself!)

....actually meeting VR (specifically Slash, Matt, and Duff) propelled me into my 2nd phase of obsession with GNR!!!  HELP!!!  It's a bad obsession..... : ok:

I figured I'd add the following even if it wasn't an "official" Gn'r highlight.  I saw Velvet Revolver in Chicago last month, and even though it is a different band with a different lead singer with mostly different songs, I realize it will likely be the closest I'll ever get to seeing Guns N' Roses live.  I got to see two founding members (Slash and Duff), and Matt play three classic Gn'r hits, Used to Love Her, It's So Easy, and Mr. Brownstone.  They were all about 20 feet from me.  It was an amazing experience, and it was a relief to go to some kind of Gn'r related gig after they cancelled the 2002 tour just one week before I was going to see them.

Highlights for me are:-
 1991, seeing GnR at Wembley stadium before UYI came out. The night before that gig i met Matt Sorum backstage & he told me how excited he was to be playing at Wembley, top dude!? :smoking: That whole show was great, even tho i was seriously frightened for my life at a few points from being in a massive crush of 70,000 fans. Also managed to get Slash & Izzy guitar picks from that show which was pretty cool as it was Izzy's last real GnR performance.

1992, saw GnR twice in the UK & after the Gateshead Stadium show , early in the morning as i was walking home i noticed a limo pulled up at some traffic lights across the road. I ran over & peered thru the window & Axl was sitting inside, i shouted to him & straight away he told his driver to blow through the red lights! Prob as close as i've been to him tho, pretty cool. None of my friends ever belived me about him being in the car...lol. They were still walking down the road.......

......Went to see VR last week & met Matt Sorum again, quality show. Slash n Duff were rocking!

To me it all started when I first heard Axl scream "Do you know where you are?!" at the age of 9 (How awesome it is to hear those words again! ), after that I got Appetite for Destruction and simply became addicted to their songs. Slash always played in a perfect perfomance too and his guitar skills were incomparable.

unfortnally i never get the chance to see GNR live. I'am from lisbon and had tickets for their concert in RIR IV. When it was canceled i was 400 km away from home, in a field trip (I?m a teacher) with my students, and i got a sms with the sad news. I was so down, but that night, my students sang KOHD in a Karaoke, just to chear me up. It was great!

But my big moment was when i met Slash at a Velvet concert. He signed my cd, took a pic and shake hands. It was mind blowing

I gotta laugh, today I was reading ('The Band that Time forgot') how Axl likes to throw parties for friends but always plays really loud rock music when they come around and once dressed as a pig freaking the children out!

during those shows,  during KOHD, because Axl's voice is so heart wrenchingly beautiful  - I was moved to tears...

My GNR Highlight was travelling down to Boston 3 years ago to see GNR. Before paradise, i move myself closer to the stage, at that time, i had a shirt that i bought in London in 2001 for the cancelled tour and i could swear that he was staring from time to time at my shirt, anyhow,  i was really hysterical to see them that close.

My highlight was the Toronto Nov 29th show. It was just so awesome I had such great seats pretty awesome night my favorite concert ever!

I first saw GNR in Foxborro Mass. It was the Monster tour with faith no more and metalica unbeliveable concert, next was in portland maine, then agusta maine I was in the front row there thta was probably the best show I have ever been to, Then in 2002 I see them in heartford conn. this was a very good show as well I was nervous as hell that Axl wouldnt show up but he did and put on a kick ass show also at this show ahot looking blonde showed a very nice clean shaving monkey to all on the big video screens some guy wrote on a piece of paper show your monkey and put it front of the camera then they put the camera on her and bam down came the panties

Well, since I first posted in the thread lots of things have happened so I'll post again...

I brought Adler's Appetite to Greece in July 2004 for one concert (and spent 2 days with them), Tommy Stinson in October 2004 for 2 concerts (and spent 3 days with him), Adler's Appetite again in February 2005 for 3 concerts (3 and 1/2 days with them) and I spent 2 days with Gilby Clarke (and MC5) in March 2005.

Velvet Revolver are coming this June and it looks like I'll meet them too.

So, as time passes by, more GN'R highlights for me...

Well, the key words in my post are "I brought" which means that I'm the one that organised their concerts in Greece, so I guess it wasn't that difficult to hook up with them...

Oh, and trust me, if you send thousands of emails, they'll never take you seriously... Sounds more like a stalker to them...  ;)

When Chinese Democrazy comes, it will be the biggest highlight besides listening to AFD first time.

seeing guns in Belgium in 2002. Never thought I would see Axl perform live. And they sure as hell kicked some serious arse.

I also saw Snakepit and Vr, but somehow that doesn't bring the same exitement.

2000 - This was the year when I started listening to GN'R, heard November Rain on VH1.. And I was blown away

2001 - My first GN'R concert, Rock In Rio 3.. Man, that was so fucking awesome.. Actually started crying of happieness.

2002 - The VMA's.. They didn't have theire best day, but it was fun to see Axl on tv.. And he seemed really happy.

2002 - My second GN'R concert in England.. The Leeds festival.. It was great.. Also other great bands there too.

hearing appetite for the 1st time, seeing G N' R at wembley 31st aug 91 ( izzys last show), seeing them again at the leeds carling festival (2002 new line up), finally getting hold of a copy of suicide, buying a suicide promo for ?5!!, getting my 1st G N' R tattoo way back in 91' ( 3 more since then), learning to play sweet child on my electric guitar   (which gives me a major buzz every time a play the 1st few bars). to tell you the truth there are no highlights for me.. G N' R is a real part of my life and i treasure every single moment... not just a few highlights!

Me and my da getting a loan of the UYI2 tape off of my da's friend, when I was a nipper. It was my first proper introduction to GnR, and I've been hooked ever since then.

Well My Gnr Highlights definitely are:

1.- Argentina 1992 Guns N Roses drive everyone crazy.. some suicides and riots even before the concert... Mad argentinians

2.- Bolivia 1995 - Guns N Roses being played in a local Tv Channel... (N. Rain)

3.- Cbba Bolivia - 1998 I forgot to stop the VCR recording, and i suddenly found that I recorded Paradise City... a different song from this strange band... I used to like...

4.- I borrowed UYI 1 from a friend of mine.... Cd wich i Thought was kinda satanic and shit... because of the riots in argentina... but pretty cool by the way...

And many more things but those are the most importants...

seeing that he wasn't fat or bald or old (the braids suited him nicely, so did the jersey)

seeing him running up n' down the stage and doing the snake dance (lucky guy getting a handshake)

After about a year of working on my Izzy Stradlin site I checked my email and for the first time there was a mail of Izzy. I had never dreamed of him even looking at the site but he said he found the site and thought it was cool. A few days later he sent me a new photo, and told me what he had been upto.

Not long after that I got a signed copy of River through my door  :smoking: I thought it was so fucking cool and I believe I will be listening to Izzy for many years to come.

probably first time I heard sweet child of mine ,5 years ago, in internet cafe, second time I heard knockin on a heavens doors was early in the morning on tv I barely opened my eyes at 5 in the morning and I saw Slash playing guitar.Then the exitement when i bought  CDS best of gnr and Appetite for destruction.BUYING MY FIRST GNR T- SHIRT,and spending almost all my money on dvds.   

October 27th 1987 The Paradise, Boston Ma

          I had been listenin to Appetite since it's release, and had recently picked up a copy of Live Like A Suicide , I was kind of a loner at the time, and although i probably could have found some one to go with me I did not even try, This was going to be a solo mission.
          I did not find out they were playing until the day of the show, I called for tickets, I was told there was a dozen left. I jumped in my car and drove as fast as i could to get the ticket.
         I was fast enough, I got my one ticket, and headed for Downtown Boston......
         
        The Show.....Hard to explain in words......If you could look at a word, and see an audio/visual, this is what the word "rock n roll" would look and sound like.
        It changed my life, I was 16 and decided that night, I was gonna dedicate my life to playing music. 3 years later i would be playing on the same stages that guns started on, The Whiskey, The Roxy etc.., I would live the rockstar life in Hollywood, Steven Adler would come to one of my parties,I would have a drink with Slash @ the Rainbow, and even an Axl Rose sighting every now and then. This whole direction my life took was all inspired by the decision I made at the paradise that night................................         The next day i would meet the band at a record store signing, Although this would not be the last time i would talk with them, it was the first. and it adds to the memory of the show..
          To this day i still have a cassette tape recording of the show, i found this a couple weeks later through a bootleger,The sound quality is not the best, but i have held onto it for almost 20 years, If you knew me, and my drop everything and move on attitude that leaves behind many of my possesions, you would know what an accomplishment this is for me, As I look back I now realize it is one of my most prized possesions, I have the moment in time my life changed recorded on tape...................

Listening to AFD for the first time.  I remember saying WTF after my first time thru and ever since then, have been recomending it to my friends as the best album they will ever hear in their life time.

When i saw Terminator 2 the first time i rewinded the credits over and over just to hear the song " You Could be Mine " in the early 90's? and my neighbor blaring Sweet child o mine in her house , I loved those two songs almost my whole life but the funny thing was i didn't kno they were the same band till my middle school days.

Hearing the second half of SCOM (from solo on) on the radio and wondering WTF IS THIS!?!?!?! From then on i was a dedicated fan, Dancing around the garage with my mates pretending our cricket bats were guitars. and sitting out on my cousins verandah hearing the concert from eastern creek raceway. (it must have been loud!!!!) I was only 13 at the time!!! : ok:

Okay, so I was on a downward financial trend. Divorce etc... anyway, I'm waiting for the clock to strike noon to buy the tickets to the concert...only my third or fourth concert ever, but since I'm a HUGE GNR fan...  Noon strikes, I hit "get best seats" or whatever and get 3rd row floor, center stage. YAHOO!!! I enter my cc number and DECLINED!

DOH!!!

I run to the living room and borrow my brother's card, but by the time I navigate my way back to the screen I need, the seats are gone. Net result...50th row, two tickets are $150 or so. NOOOO!!!

The night of the concert it's a frickin blizzard. It came up outta nowhere, and even though I gave myself an extra hour to get there, I'm 45min late. I wasn't even sure there was an opening act since it's a smaller venue...maybe 15,000 capacity or so. So I'm facing seeing 15min of a concert from the 50th row. I am BITTER.

I get there and there are scalpers on the sidewalk freezing thier arses off, and of course given the weather there is NOBODY to sell the tickets to. So this guy comes up and says, "Dddddo yyyya wwwant tttto bbbbbuy tttttickets?" or something like that. He looks about ready to die. I tell him I have tickets. Long story short, he's desperate and sells me 2 tickets, 2nd row floor, center stage for $25. Nice, but is the concert almost done?

I go in, it hasn't even started yet. Apparently the weather held up both the band and the opening act. (Some really brutal DJ Master Mike or something...complete idiot. heheh)

Anyway, you want the end to this amazing story? After the encore, I turn to the left to shuffle to the aisle, and out of the corner of my right eye I see something flash and instinctivly put my hand up to protect my face. Drumstick hits me right in the hand.

My new highlight was 2 nights ago, when i watched RIR2 for the first time, Ive got hard n heavy volume 13 which has all gunners interviews and live shit from RIR but i had never seen that before, Axl strutting around in those american flag bike shorts was GnR at their most bad ass. Dead horse live!!! YEAH!!!!!

I can remember the first time I ever saw Axl, watching the Sweet Child O Mine video, I dont even remember how old I was, I dont even think a child that young could think this way, but I remember just sitting there staring in awe, and completely taken by him, and thinking that this was the most beautiful man I had ever seen, or will see.

Mine would be the 1st time I saw GNR in 1988.  I was in the front row on some guy's shoulders almost eye level to Axl.  :drool:

I'd have to say meeting Steve Adler and Gilby (separate occasions).  I've actually met Steve twice.  I shook his hand and told him how awesome he is.  I think I actually told him I loved him.  My friends never let me hear the end of that.  I guess I got a little carried away, but he played on Appettite damnit, I couldn't help myself.  I've also communicated with Steve via e-mail.  Meeting Gilby was awesome.  He talked with me and my friends for a friggin' while about all kinds of stuff.  He took pictures with everybody, and when we left he even told us we were cool.  A former member of GN'R telling me I'm cool...how cool is that!!

This is probobly a bit strange but when i saw them all act in a Clint Eastwood film!! You actually see all of them (axl,slash,duff,adler and izzy!) in Dead Pool which is the third film in the Dirty Harry films. And they're playing music at a funeral!! Bliss, apsoulutely bliss!!

We have a bar/nightclub in Trondheim (Norway) called Circus.. It is a kind of sofisticated rock club, with widescreen`s on every wall, playing Rock concerts.
from different kind of bands.. Every night im at the club, they play ATLEAST a couple of GNR songs! End everytime people get really excited! They had the Tokyovideo on the screens and played, Scom, wttj, pc! It was really great to see how people react when they play GNR! Everyone fucking freaks out!  : ok:

Seeing axl at last in 2002 in london.  i went after a whole weekend at Reading and was so tired - as soon as Richard hit the first note of Jungle - I stormed down the front and spent the rest of the gig asking friendly tall, strong men to put me up on their shoulders (I'm quite small) - having a good sob at november Rain and Rocket Queen.  Axl blowing me a kiss as he left the stage (am sure it was at me dammit!).  incredible.  so amazing.  so satisfying to finally AFD played live and sung by axl - every minute was a musical orgasm!

i discovered gnr in 1988 after hearing SCOM on the radio.  i quickly fell in love with it.  my fave one of the boys was steven. i was kinda dissapointed when he was fired cos i think he should be given another 'chance' as there were other junkies apart from him.  then in 1990 i eventually saw slash's face in RIP mag.  don't laugh but i turned to like him instead since steve has been a history :hihi:  when uyi I & II came out i thought it sounded like it was over produced or something.  now after more than a decade, i can't wait for CD to be released  :) btw, l still have this hope that the original five would get together again one day.

Back in 87 or 88 watching The Roxy show on Headbangers Ball whenI was about 14 before anyone heard of them.

Well I saw as close to the original GNR as you could get..yes, minus Izzy and Steven. Otherwise still had Duff and Slash.

Whats different now is we dont even know what Axl looks like this year, or if the CD will ever be released. Anyone that was around at the time of the original gnr knows that without at least slash in the band, its not really guns n roses. Its Axl Rose with a band. Im not dissing gnr as it is now. I for one hope that CD comes out, blows everyone away, and the band gnr is back. But in all honesty, speaking as an "old" fan, its not the gnr we used to know.

1. First pickin' up a copy of AFD at age 12 in the fall of '88, it was my dad's copy :smoking:.? Listened to it, was floored, read the lyrics to Anything Goes and my jaw hit the floor.

2. Spring of '90, late age 13. Diggin through my stepmoms soapopera tapes so that I could Video tape a re-airing of Live At Ritz... taking it over to my cousins so that we could get stage ideas for our band ROCKET. Incidentally my cousin gave me this KRASH nickname that spring. My uncle later destroyed the Ritz video tape :crying:

3. Spring 1991, age 14. Moving back in with my mom and bringing a copy of AFD on white cassette.
All the 15-18 year old chick friends of my cousins in this town thought I was a total stud.? I used to walk around this one horse town (Twin Valley, Minnesota, pop. 800) with a Quasar boombox crankin' AFD.? My aunt asked one day back then "are you the one who walks down the alley all...NIGHTRAIN, NIGHTRAIN". I just smiled.

4. Fall of 92 or spring of 93 (i think, i drank alot then). Driving around the Fargo dome parking lot (Fargo, ND) with my now deceased buddy Mike Sackman listening to the band pummel through the walls as we couldnt afford tickets.

5. Fall 2002, my dad mailed me a performance of WTTJ with Buckethead on gee-tar. Cool....

6. Fall 2005 (age 29), Teaching my little 17 year old brother the intro to SCOM and most of Anything Goes on guitar.

I Became a fan quite late
Dec. 1994? ? My first trip to the US, after having a shitty tape of AFD, which i fell in love with. I got to Virginia, and with my money bought the 5 gn?r tapes, afd, lies, UYI 1 n 2 and TSI. A night after that my aunt says that she doesn?t know what to get me for x-mas, so i bought the 5 cds... :hihi:, i was so ignorant, I didn?t know about the tokyo tapes.

Dec 1997 I got my hands on the hard to find UYI 1 n 2 tokyo vhs tape, and also the making fucking videos trilogy.

VMA 2002, Without any previous notice, i?m watching this thing cause jimmy fallon kinda makes me laugh, and suddenly he says something about a surprise, and some time later he whistles patience, i ran around the house like a maniac cause i knew that gn?r was coming, what i would see i didn?t know, but i had to find a vhs to record it, and thank god, i was able to do so. Felt nostalgia for the old gn?r, but still made me go crazy about hearing something new.

Now i have a nice dvd collection, i feel blessed, someday, someday, i?ll get to see them live.

I guess seeing them on the Skin & Bones tour with my older brother. Tha was my first concert. Another highlight/lowlight was the Vancouver riot in 2002. It sucked that Axl didn't show but I can always say I was part of an official Guns N' Roses riot. ;D

I don't post too often at this forum, but read through this topic and thought I'd add some of my experiences:

1) January 1990, listening to Nightrain at a party for the first time. After that I was hooked.
(At that time I had only heard Paradise, Patience, Sweet Child before this day)

2) August 1991. GnR cancelling the Oslo gig after riding the train for 7 hours. Worst day of my life at that time.

3) Seeing GnR in Oslo in 1993. Great day, even though the show wasnt their best, and Axl kept running on and off stage all the time.

4) VMA 2002. I was home, after taking my appendix a few days ealier, lying in bed at 5 am in the morning, recovering and watching the show. I am not a too emotional kinda guy, but seriously, I was standing up in my bed when Jungle came on. Awesome feeling. (After some days of pain and surgery that was a hell of a treat for me).

Holly crap! the biggest non riot Gn'R thrill I've had in the last ten years was hearing the Better clip jst now!! Awsome!!!

I was at that show.... it was raining like a motherfocker after.. I believe Nirvana was orginally supposed to play, but Faith No More took their place when the show was postponed.  If it had been GnR/Metallica/Nirvana, that would have been one of the top 10 non-festival rock shows of all time!!

GN'R highlights, hmmm. How about TONIGHT! The sun is comming up on the GN'R world!

I was also at that show, Nirvana never was gonna play, Axl wanted them on the tour but they had no interest.  That show was ok, I thought GNR and Metallica  were much better on their own tours. My highlight would probably be seeing GNR for the first time 1-21-92 Target Center, opened with Jungle and hearing them open with that was just an incredible rush after being a fan for years.

I hated Nirvana and almost all grunge bands..except alice in chains they were a little more heavy  :P 8)

My biggest GNR highlight was seeing Axl Rose live with the new GNR in Vegas on new years eve going into 2002 at the Hard Rock Hotel.  I was in the front row, literally just a few feet from Axl himself.  This was so surreal.  I had high expectations and they blew me away.  They were so energetic and fresh sounding.  Axl looked the same as in 1992 and wasn't bald or fat like the assholes who spread the rumors said.

My biggest gnr highlight has to be when i was 4 years old and my older bro and sister got me into you could be mine. it was my first favorite song and i just felt like such a cool little kid. it was even cooler when i went to see a cool movie like terminator 2 and it was in there :)

Actually getting to see GN'R twice (on back to back nights no less) during the short lived "2002 Tour".
First in my home town of Toronto, Ontario with my wife (girlfriend at the time - our first concert together) and then in nearby London, Ontario (this was a new arena and GN'R was the first concert) with one of my best friends from high school.

- Cologne 1993: my first GNR concert, i was 9 years old back then.
- Seeing the New GNR perform at RIR on DVD for the first time
- Pukkelpop 2002: Seeing GNR for the 2nd time in my life.Standing in the first row
- VMA's 2002 - all the rumours,nobody knew if it's gonna happen.Then the host started making all those hints and i knew it's going to happen. It was 6 in the morning and i was so bumped..incredible
- The recent leaks. Haven't been that excited about something in years. I've been waiting for new GNR music for such a long time, and the wait was worth it..

The first time I ever heard Gn'R was in my bigger bro's car and he had Live and Let Die on, I was only about 10 yrs old. I sung the only part of the song I could remember all day and been listenin to Gn'R ever since. My biggest Gn'R highlight was the 2002 VMA's too bad I was too young to watch them in the early 90's. Now hopefully with all this media attention they're back for good this time(I really believe they are).

When I seen GN'R live in London Ont. 2002. That will always stand out to me.

Well it all started for me with the movie "The Dead Pool", Welcome to the Jungle was in that and when i saw the movie and the scene where Jim Carrey's character pretends to be the singer got me hooked!!

After that i remember listening to the album and watching the video's on MTV over and over. 

Then Lies came out and i got that on tape and wore it out, Patience was always a favorite of mine and i hated at the time when stations would cut off the end half of the song!!!  One in a million is simply awesome rock n roll music, its what rock is all about!

Then the seemingly never ending wait for the Use your Illusion albums. Back in those days before the internet, you had to rely on MTV, Rolling Stone or other mags like Billboard for info..I remember in about January 1991 an interview Slash did with Rolling Stone where he talked all about the album and played some tracks for them from a tape, talked about how November Rain was "very angelic", still didn't seem to anyone when these damn albums would come out!!

I remember well, since i lived in the south suburbs of Chicago, how the tour opened up at Alpine Valley, VERY cool to have everything start there, I was a junior in HS and didn't really have the means to get to the show or get tickets at  that time.  But would have loved to have seen one of those shows!!  i remember Axl had a badly sprained ankle or foot too from jumping off a speaker at one of the pre-shows in NY i believe, he got a high tech boot to wear from a trainer on the Milwaukee Brewers staff! 

Anyway, that whole summer was just filled with G N R, The CD single came out in June for "You could be Mine" with Civil War as the other track on it, played that thing to death!  Then finally, September 1991, who could forget that time in music if you were into it then, Metallica's black album came out in August, i LOVED Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" Nirvana would be releasing Nevermind soon, and to top it off, Use your Illusions FINALLY appeared!  I went to the record shop in the mall on the way to HS that morning, got there around 7:30 or so and i remember they were playing "Back off Bitch" over the loud speakers in there, a truly AWESOME memory, by the time i had gotten to school i had listened to UYI1 up through "you ain't the first" and i remember bringing in the booklets from both albums and concentrating a hell of a lot more on them that day than class! LOL 

Just a great time, remembering the "don't cry" single and video on heavy rotation that time in the late summer, Both Albums at the top of the charts just as the belonged. 

A REAL highlight for me though was finally seeing Guns live in April 1992 in Chicago, waited a month or two earlier out in the cold cold morning with a buddy to get 8 tickets for us and a few other friends.  By getting so many together we ended up with shit seats in the rafters but that didn't matter.  Driving to that show was a great memory, everyone packed into my car and we CRANKED UYI's on the way to the show, i still have my ticket which said the show would start around 9:30 PM, i don't recall when the Smashing Pumpkins started, nor did I or anyone else care, they were no one then and pretty much sucked, later on though and to this day, i became a big fan!!!  Anyway, i want to say it was at least 11:30 PM when the the boys hit the stage to "Nightrain", in later years io got a bootlegged VHS of this show and it was a fabulous find because this particular show is hailed far and wide as one of their very best, They did Coma, Shannon Hoon was there for "Don't Cry", Axl had a few long rants, he had just done an interview with Rolling Stone so that was super current news, just an epic night, i think we all got back around 3 AM and i had to go to school the next day because i was out of free days or whatever we called them then, basically meant i was able to skip my senior finals which were pointless atthat point anyway since i was already accepted into college.  What a night though!!!

I have a great memory of the Paris PPV concert, i remember having my orientation at the University of Illinois the day before that and that day, then driving back home and being very happy to have seen Soundgarden, another band i love to this day, open that show, i have my own VHS copy of it to this day that i will pop in occasionally.

After that things were a little fuzzy, college started for me, though right before i started, august 1992, was the famous Montreal Riot where James was burned, being a fan or both bands equally that was some incident!  The one thing i remember well after that though was in October 1992, when "Yesterdays" premiered on MTV, always loved that song and i think its a very cool video, Axl's look in it is timeless i think, his best.  Sure after that there was "Estranged" and "the Garden" plus "garden of eden" thrown in the mix, but maybe it was being in college or something, but Guns seemed to lose their steam to me.  Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Black Crows...these bands started to dominate my life. 

I do recall getting both the Metallica Live shit box set and The Spaghetti Incident on the same November night in 1993, love everything on Spaghetti too, not sure why that album isn't held in higher regard, "Ain't it fun" is simply awesome! 

After that there was "Since i don't have you" and then the final wimper of "Sympathy for the devil"  it all ended with such a thud...the time surrounding G N R after July 1993 when their massive tour ended through about 1996 was maddening, what was going on?  No one seemed to really know. 

It was kick ass though in the summer of 1995 to hear Slash's Snake pit and "beggars and hangers on", now i love the guitar work and vocals on that!  Duff and Gilby's solo efforts were ok, but nothing to really get excited about....it was a downer time to be into Guns N Roses, at least i felt and revisionist history tends to support that.

Flash Forward to 2002 and Chicago again, saw a GRWAT show in November that year, all hope was dashed though after the tour was cancelled not even a month later after the Philly incident.

But now, with the media coverage, Rolling Stone interviews, and the 3 songs being leaked, i am PUMPED again for G N R!  I can't wait till we get a NEW WHOLE album and the chance to see these guys live on an extended tour out doors, hopefully all summer long after the Europe festivals!

My best friend went to Thailand and came back with Greatest Hits as a gift for me. I didn't really like music at all at the time, was more into movies, but she thought I would like these guys (she was right...). The following 2 weeks I bought all the GN'R CDs I could get my hands on and quickly became an obsessive fan.

I hate the fact that I'm too young to have seen the original line-up live, but I'm hoping the rumours of a show in Sweden are true! They should be, GN'R seems to be booking shows everywhere now! My God, this is really happening! ;D

I remember I used to tape the Pepsi Power Hour on MuchMusic with this little ghetto blaster...they played "Jungle" and I fuckin' loved that song...I remember playing it over and over again...the quality was horrible but I loved it.  i went out and bought "Appetite" and it blew my mind...I was fourteen and it had just come out...I even thought that Slash was the one doing lead vocals on "It's So Easy" and "Mr. Brownstone" because the vocals sounded so different...then I got to see them live in Halifax N.S. in May of 88'.  The guy sitting beside me was like "Who are Guns N' Roses?"  (they were opening for Iron Maiden at the time)  ...and then the band was introduced and they broke into "It's So Easy" and I was blown away cause it was Axl singing the song.  Great show; Axl was introducing "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"  and he was dedicating it to a friend who had passed away and he stopped and said "Well you can suck my dick faggot" to some guy in the crowd and then looked like he was going to jump in the audience (things haven't changed  :D) but didn't and then they went on with the song. Fun Stuff! : ok:

Must have been when i first saw the "you could be mine" video on a tv show. Back then i wasn't really interested in music and was just letting the show be on 'cause i didn't really have anything else to do. But "you could be mine" really caught my attention, and i spent the next day just waiting for it to appear again. But that wasn't enough so i bought Use your illusion II. That really got me into music. And has meant a lot to me in the last few years.

Although im too young to go to any GNR concerts, i will always remember watching the freddie tribute concert, at the beging of Knocking on heavens door, when Axl put the mic stand above his head and started swaying, it look so amazing.

im only a baby (18) but my highlights are...

- finding my mums appetite for destruction tape, and playing it, straight away i was drawn in by paradise city!!

- buying the ritz88' dvd, seeing rocket queen sent shivers through my spine

- 1st time i saw slash live (on a dvd) was speechless

When I was around 6 years old, I woke up in the middle of the night, walked in the living room, where my dad was. He was watching Live at the Ritz when it premired on MTV. I asked him who was that. He said go back to bed, you can watch it in the morning. (He was taping it). I watched it that next day, and my life has NEVER been the same since.

Waiting and waiting for the premire of the video of You Could Be Mine. It was well worth the wait.

I got Appetite, Lies, and the Illusions by getting a copy made from my uncles cds. The day that the Spaghetti Incident came out, I had my dad take me to the local record store. I finally got my own copy of a GNR cd, not a copy of my uncles.

2002 VMAs. I get goose bumps still because the world missed Axl, just like they will this summer.

When I was 12 I went jogging with my dad and we saw a CD layin on the ground so i picked it up and it was GNR Lies...I asked my dad who GNR was and he looked at the CD and said "oh you gotta know one song on there"(he was talking about patience...So i went home put it in and was absolutely blown away.  I had heard GNR songs before but was to young to really realize just what i was hearing.  I had all the released CDs by that weeks end. 


Oh...and going to see them in 02' in Cleveland.  It was absolutely amazing...That was one night i will never forget

Closest thing for me would be seing Velvet Revover play It's So Easy live in Vancouver.

Missed the Ritz show in NY but then went to Giants Stadium for GNR, Deep Purple and Aerosmith! Had suck job seats. My bud and I decided we were getting on the floor, this dude jumped and two cops grabbed him, he put up a struggle and we went over! ended up about 20 feet in front of the stage, center. Ended up being part of the Paradise City video footage. Awesome!  8)

Then in '91, couldn't get tix for the MSG shows, so me and this other dude went to scalp, ended up getting in 2 of the 3 shows! We just ran around the main level walkway, hung in spots for 2-3 songs, and moved on again. Everyone was way cool and man did they rock!!!! You can feel the place shake like crazy, like on a pogo stick, when you get the right band at the top of their game in there!!!!  :smoking:

first time i heard Sweet Child O' Mine  : ok:

1) Listening to AFD for the first time.  Axl's voice was (and still is) unbelievable.  Then, hearing his interview with Del James on the Patience CD and wondering how someone who could sing such high notes could have such a deep, sexy speaking voice.   ;)
2) Hearing Estranged for the first time at a show in Germany in Aug 91 and getting goosebumps.
3) The what seemed like endless wait for UYI to be released and then being on holiday in California when it did come out.  Frantically trying to find a record shop, buying a tape and playing it to death on my walkman whilst travelling around the west coast.

Live dates that stick in my mind:
Wembley Stadium 91 and 92 - just 'cos it's Wembley and my 'home' venue.  :D
Freddie Mercury Tribute Show - Had a job interview when tickets went on sale and had to sell my camera to get the money to buy a ticket from a tout.  Cost me ?90 - which seemed a lot back then!  It was worth it though as the atmosphere at the show was wonderful and pretty emotional too.

Yesterday damn sure was one of my GN'R highlights.  Getting my ticket for Friday May 12th at Hammerstein, and then driving home with Appettite cranked on my car stereo.

i'm 20 and i only started listening to GNR last year...before i knew who they were but thought they sucked.  :crying:
 i was at this sort of open aired pub and the owner put don't cry on... i remember asking my friend (who's 6 years older than me) who played that song he told me it was GNR...2 weeks after this i got hold of all their cds..but still haven't had the chance to see them live..and probably won't  be able to see them even this year although they're playing in italy..  :-[
second highlight would be this xmas when my aunt bought 3 GNR dvds for me  ;D ...first time i saw them on stage..and still think they're amazing!!

welcome to the guns n roses fan community, believe me, it?s a band that you will get to love pretty fast. They?re great!!
Now you?re getting to know the new guns n roses, which many of us don?t think of them as such, but still might be somethign nice to see, wether it?s live or with a new cd, cause axl it?s still in and kicking it.  :beer:

One of my best highlights was hearing "The Blues" for the first time and realizing that I think the new band might just be everybit as good as the old one, maybe even better.

Yeah, it's very understandable and I felt the same way for a long time. Tracks like "Madagascar" and "The Blues" really started to change my mind but the leaks really cemented it. In my opinion, the demo version of "Better" is superior to anything the former members of GnR having done.

I got into them early.  Seriously.  3rd grade.  My mom brought me to Record Town (remember that place?) and said I could get one tape.  Yes, you read that right - a cassette tape.  I had AFD in one hand, Lies in the other, and looked up and said "Mom, I don't know which one to get."  She let me get them both.  Been a fan ever since.  I'm now 26.  When the UYI's came out, my dad (who was also really into them) got copies of the tapes from a friend and let me dub my own copies (I was around 10).  I guess my parents are kinda cool.  Kinda...

And, of course, my only GnR concert experience so far (before the upcoming 12th & 17th shows), MSG 2002 in a luxury suite for free, thanks to a great friend of mine.

 I was 11 years old and i went to a party with older  guys and  they had a big screen  and  i watched  for first time november rain,i definetly changed my life i saw axl playin piano (intro) and i loved it because i play piano too so it was like a connetction  with axl... ::)

2006 am still waiting for him I have 2 tix for may 12 and I am expecting to see gnr  after all these crazy years!!! : ok:

Personally, my highlight was getting into Guns n' Roses for myself in 2000. Nothing beat the feeling of discovery of such a diverse, epic yet personal, collection of music. Then the discovery that they were due to play Rio in 3 weeks, and being able to follow it live on the web, back in the old CD.com days. So exciting, no new tour will come close to that level of anticipation.

I remember being fairly young, soon after my parents had split up. We had moved in with a friend of my mother's, and her boyfriend sat me down one night to watch a guns video that was going to be on a prime time mtv special. I was 9 or 10 that year, didn't really know who they were. They showed some of their videos beforehand, and i kept asking if this was the new video and being told not yet, but soon. This was sometime after the Estranged video came out, because i think this was the last video they showed before the new one. I only know it as estranged because for some reason the scene with the police entering axl's home and the dolphins really stuck with me. I guess maybe it was a spaghetti incident vid, i remember him saying something about charles manson. Later, i went through a phase where i would record the radio at home, and happened to snag paradise city. This was sometime in middle school, and i was hooked. The first cd my mom let me have was the illusions disc from walmart that had some songs from both albums on one cd. I later got AFD, and after loving it, i bought the illusions, and finally lies. My friend bought me live era for christmas the year it came out, again i thought it was awesome, inspiring me to go buy the tokyo vhs, and welcome to the videos. Definatly obsessed through high school, and went completly out of my mind when they came back to do VMAs. My mother bought me a ticket to cleveland 02 for my birthday the year i gradualted, and i had an amazing time. Finally there were the leaks, which sent me on a spastic run around my room at college, leading my girlfriend to call me gay. And now, the tickets i have to NYC. Amazing, all this time, so many different places in life, and they can still captivate me. Can't wait for what comes next.

There are so many GN'R highlights.  So I'll talk about a recent one.  Somehow I ended up being the only person skating during the end of a freestyle session.  So I played "Estranged" three times.  It was awesome to have the ice all to myself and to be skating to one of my favorite songs.  The ice was like a blank canvas, my blades were paintbrushes, and my arms were the colors as the sound of the music of GN'R filled the arena.

So Much, I try to summarize.

I heard about GnR back in 1987 or 88. I'm 30 now so I was @ 12 years old. I got hooked quick. Music has always been very important to me. And GnR has always been and always will be my favorite. My cousin which was also my best friend we enjoyed every day listening to GnR. I remember watching there NY Ritz show on MTV. We wore our GnR shirts almost every day to go to school.

We both went? to the concert in Hershey PA. when they toured with Skid Row. I think June of 91. We were 15 . Our moms drove us to the show. They waited outside till it was almost over, except some security guards were trying to pick them up left them in when the show was like half over. Best experience ever. It was GA we were lucky to be upfront against the barrier right upfront. Only the gold seat were in front of us. We jumped the concrete barrier before the encor. When they came back on stage we climbed up onto a stack of speakers that were level with the stage. Slash came over and was playing less than 3ft away. There was a security guard between him and us but it was way cool. I looked into the crowd. Alls you could see was a sea of people going crazy. And theres me and my cousin standing along with another guy that made it up onto the speakers in total shock. Slash blastin away. The guard left us there . When the show finally ended. We jumped down from the speakers but instead of towards the crowd we jumped down between the stage and the speakers. The stage was built on like scffolding. We crawled under the stage to the back of the stage. Axl already beat us back there. They had a trailer set up out back and axl was leaning against a railing spitting and hacking with a white rob on if I remember correctly. We crawled out from underneath starting walking towards the steps that came down of the stage as the rest of the band was coming down. A security guard stopped us and asked fo rour passes. We were dumb young kids so I reached for my ticket stub, The guard said the get the f out of here that is not a pass. I quick ran past him. I put my hand out and slapped slash 5 at the same time 2 guards grabbed me cut the shit out of my arm. My cousin just stood there in amazment froozin. Slash said to the guards to let me go I was just a kid but they did not listen, they drug me and my cousin out from backstage. We go back to the car, my arms bleeding. We get in the car with our moms. We told them the whole story they did not believe us but I showed them my arm and the scrathes. Then they tell us some guards left them in the show. They said they stood in the back the whole time but never saw us up on the speakers etc. The whole thing was awsome. Totaly priceless.

Fast Forward.

We go to the Philly Show in Dec. of 91.
Great Show but nothing will change dthe experience I had at Hershey.


Fast Forward to year 2000.? My cousin and I are still best freinds and a major part of our freinship is gnr. We will always have that bond.
Unfortuneltyl he died that summer at age 26 . At his funeral in the procession I blared the live version of Knockin on Heavens door in the precession line to the cemetary. I put my first copy of AFD on his casket before they barried him. That night I about wore out the live era CDs I was so drunk.

Fast forward. 2002 I get front row tickets to teh second show in philly that was cancelled. I was taking my best freinds younger brother. I felt it was my duty becuase he was to young to go with us before. They cancel the show but I have not lost hope.


Fast Forward to present. I drive my wife crazy with 100 gigs of gnr music on my computer and I'm addicted to finding more. Its like being 15 all over again. I have 2 tickets to the 15th I'm going and taking my cousins younger brother. I have unfinshed buisness.

I'm a GNR fan for life. I plan on going to every concert possible from now to the end of time. And I have to find a bootleg of the Hershey and Philly shows I went to.

I went to the 5/15 NY show and I have to say it was awsome. Only second in my book to the Hershey Show I saw in 1991. Unfortuanetly my cousins younger brother got real sick the day of the show so he did not go with me. I ended up giving his ticket away for $60 that I bought on ebay for double that amount.?

So on with life, my goals now are hope they tour the us and get tickets to every show I can and take my cousins brother finally with me.

And my eternal seacrh for the video of Hershey continues. It is out there someone has it. Alls I really want to see is the last 5 minutes of the show with my cousin and I up on the stack of speakers.

Damn good story dude.... I saw em in 91 with Skid Row on that same tour... I saw em in Denver in July.....

i guess my first gnr highlight would go back to junior high school when i first heard'em, after that i was hooked. Now after all these years of waiting i am finally going to see them in NYC  before they tour europe and have my first gnr expirience! finally AXL IS BAAAACK!

THis past week going to the shows, and seeing the band again 3 times at hammerstein, and hanging out with so many cool peole from all over before the shows at the shows and after, is my new highlight. At a time in my life where things have been rough and I really needed something to smile about, this whole week has brought me joy unlike anything I could've ever imagined...
The ungodly amazing 4 warm up shows, being front row against the gate 3 times (and not too far back for the other one) meeting Ron at the stage door every night, meeting Baz, going to the after-party on wed, going to the acoustic show on thurs, being in the band's private room in Plum, being introduced to Axl, dancing with him, hanging out with the band, as well as the amazing crew and people close to them.

I'm so lucky to have met the incredible people that I have this past week... I can't possibly thank them enough for their kindness and I hope to god that I get to meet with them again someday.

Like I said before - Dreams can come true. ? Thank you, thank you, thank you... I'm humbled and eternally grateful.

I cant believe its a week ago that i drove up to NJ tonight, was in hoboken, check the site to get the 14th update, then around 12:30 on the 15th was in NYC on line by 3:30.? Just an awesome time, I wish that i took advantage of some of the other shows, because you never know when we'll see the band in this kind of setting again.? I really can't wait to they tour again, probably at MSG im guessing in the fall.? I hope we get a DVD with footage from all 4 shows.? I mean they called these show warm-ups but they were anything but warm-ups.? I met alot of great people, I wish I couldve met everyone.? But the next tour Im sure it'll be bigger then ever and then we'll be able to look back and be like "there was a time" when GNR did 4 shows at the Hammerstein

Well, to be honest I am completely new to Guns n Roses!
I thought I hated them.... when really, I just never bothered to listen to them. I found my dad's copy of "Lies", and fell in love with them. Bought their entire back catalogue in about a week, and am now eagerly awaiting the UK tour in July.
My only regret is that I didn't get into them earlier.

In 1992, Rolling Stone magazine had a thing where they asked readers to send in their votes for all time greatest albums.

I wrote about why I thought Appetite For Destruction was the best album, and to my great surprise, it got published!

I have always been pretty proud of the fact that in a Rolling Stone Magazine "Greatest Rock Album" issue, I got to represent for Guns and Roses.

I have to say going to the 15th show was a blast only rates 2nd on my list 2nd only to Hershey for me.

Listening to Catcher in the Rye while reading it...weird.

I've been a GNR fan for awhile now, I know not as long as some of you here, but long enough, I'd say like 5 years? When I was around 10, I heard WTTJ on the radio, and ever since that moment I fell inlove. Now being 15, I went to my first GNR concert, the May 14th concert, and had a great time.

I plan on going to (hopefully! :)) going to the Fall US tour people are speculating about. Hopefully they hit MSG and/or Giant's Stadium, as both are close to me.

This is so much fun, thinking about GNR  highlights.  There are so many, it's hard to choose.  I've skated to GNR and I was lucky enough to see two totally awesome shows in NY last month.  But tonight I watched the Sweet Child video and I was watching Axl dance to the guitar solo.  When I watch that video it always makes me want to dance too, the music just takes over.  And so my highlight is tinged with sadness.  We will never see that again, it has all changed now.  But hopefully there will be some new videos and cd's out soon, and we can have new GNR music.  Meanwhile, the way I listen to the old stuff is still powerful, but it has changed, because I have seen the new GNR.  It doesn't lessen my absolute love for the old stuff, yet I still hope to have something new to look at and listen to soon.  I think all of us who have seen GNR recently probably feel the same way:  totally excited because it is so damn good, and yet you know it's not the same.  It's a strange feeling.  Nevertheless, the shows in NY were so good it was almost better than you know what!

1992 - Watching and hearing for the first time Guns N' Roses - Knockin' On Heaven's Door during the Freddie tribute. I thought that it was so damn good that it was not real.

1999 - I started playing the guitar and the first song that I could play was Knockin' On Heaven's Door.

2006 (at the moment) - Believe it or not but I am listinig in the office the same song on the PC.

Everything else is just obsession from the greatest rock n' roll band. You know, how's it... :P 

Just being really close to axl in NYC. Best moment of my life (and I'm married - hahahahha)

Happiest moment of my life (one I always return to):
Stadium show Cologne 1992, me in the pit, Axl standing in front of the right videoscreen, lookin around, smiling, me hearing and feeling the music and looking up into the fading blue sky, and THE WORLD WAS GUNS?N?ROSES !!!!!!!!!!!!
Pure bliss, utter happiness, one with the Universe !!

Runner-up: day Nobody?s child came out and a mate of mine called me into his office and said-listen to this new track(Civil War). I did, on the headphones, and it just melted me, a confirmation that I had been right, yes, this would follow Appetite, something true and deep and beautiful !

Third place: Watching the world premiere of Paradise City on MTV, just thinking about it takes me right back into my very own pensieve... :)

God, memory lane has opened and I could go on and on - watching Live in Tokyo on a very bad video; Free Fallin? MTV VMAs with Tom Petty looking at Axl like he?s wondrin what the guy is on... :rofl:; Axl in the limo; the downpour show in W?rzburg where Slash asked:Is this a daily occurance?; hearing Don?t Cry for the first time - demo version , ah, it?s been almost two decades of love and life and RockandRoll .....

Dublin has now become my GNR HIGHLIGHT.the show was amazin and i was near the front,closer than iv been before.the whole experience of gettin up in the mornin and makin my way to another country to see GNR,beautiful sunny day,plenty of Guinness and meetin up with some members here before the show was truly a great experience.

Well, London, here I come... again...

Just realized I didnt update this either.

Well the first show in NY when the lights drop and Robin starts the extended intro to WTTJ. Absolute chills all over. Also hearing the opening riff of "Better" that first night. At the time nobody knew what would be played and that was the only new song I really wanted to hear. I turned into a little kid again at that moment jumping around and cheering like an idiot.

Also have to mention getting right in front of Axl about 2 rows deep the second night than getting gradually shoved to my right over the night just to be barely within reach of Robin when he dove into the crowd.

Than of course the final night when Izzy came out. When I got to see the band in the 90's he was already gone, so that was my first Izzy experience.

I also have to give credit to all the GnR fans who showed up over the 4 nights. I was only meeting up with someone on one night, yet everynight after waiting to get into the venue I had a bunch of new friends. : ok:

My Gn'R highlight happened when I went to see them on 6th of July when they played in Helsinki.

It was the second night in a row for me to see Guns n' Roses, as they had played there on 5th day also and I had had a seat ticket for that night. But for the 6th show I had a floor ticket. I went to Hartwall Areena quite early, around 6:30pm, and soon they opened the doors. I bought ear plugs and did my business in the bathroom quickly, then went to the line that had formed to the entrance of the floor. Around 7pm they let us in and I managed to get pretty good place in second row from the right side of the stage.

I waited patiently. Melrose didn't impress me. And then waited some more. At last sometime around 11pm they turned the lights off and the intro started. The show was amazing. My feeling for the gig was way better than my feeling the night before. I think that was because I was so close to the band and I was surrounded by people who enjoyed the gig just as much as I did or at least it felt like that.

The show went on and finally it came time for encore. I truly hoped that they would play more than just one song. I have to say I was a bit disappointed the night before when the encore was just Paradise city because I was so hoping that they would play Chinese Democracy, IRS or something else. But the 6th day show was better in many way. They had already played IRS and encore was more than one song, to be exact it was Madagascar, Robin's 2nd solo and Paradise city.

At this point I have to say I love all the new songs I have heard, but from them, Madagascar the least. When the song started I was happy but not going crazy or anything. I had noticed during the gig that Axl seldom made eye contact with the front rows.  This time with Madagascar it was different. Singing the song he came to right side of the stage, he was standing right in front of me and he looked into the crowd. I was holding my both my hands up and singing along with the song, I think I was the only one who even knew the lyrics from people near me. Soon Axl noticed me and looked me straight into the eye as he and I both sang:

"...mired in denial, and so afraid"

That was one magical moment for me. It's hard to describe what I felt, it was like one of those very rare 'me and my idol'-moments I suppose, when you have looked up to a person for so long and then you share something on a personal level in a way. I just can say it was GREAT. And it was not like he was just looking at me and singing, he also seemed to mean what he was saying. One could really say he was singing about a time when he really was afraid, by the way he turned his head a bit, the way he looked at me and how he closed his eyes for maybe a second or less right after the word 'afraid', before he stormed to the another end of the stage singing "If we ever find it true..."

It was a great experience and it also gave a special meaning to a song I had not felt so strong 'till that moment. If that wouldn't have happened I would've gone home that night and I would've been satisfied to the gigs and all, but I'm glad it did happen because it gave those two days a nice ending, and feeling of something special and extraordinary.

Thanks Axl, Robin and the rest of the band! You rocked in Helsinki, I hope I will see You again.  :peace:

my highlights :

1)back in 1993 when i met the old band in their hotel in Athens and saw the first concert of GnR in Greece....
2)10th of July when i saw the new band in Greece when they really ROCKED! fantastic show
3)the same day, when during the show, Christos was on videoscreens , headbanging like crazy!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :P :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: yeap it s the truth they DID show Christos' face on videoscreens  :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Yeah, lots of people told me about it... They told me that I was shown on the screens MANY times... And when I was headbanging it was during the last part of SCOM, me and SCOM, we have some history on that last part...  :hihi:

And I also got interviewed by MAD TV for the Greek GN'R Fan Club and they asked me questions about the new record and the band, like I know when the new record will come out  :rofl:... I told them that Axl mentioned late Fall and that the band is amazing, but they saw it themselves later that night...

And Axl mentioning that he has noticed MY Greece Loves GN'R signs over the years and that it's appreciated... WOW... Like the gig itself wasn't enough to get me crazy...  ;D

10th of July is definitely my biggest highlight as a Gunner, until the next one...  ;)

Liar! Meeting me in Lisbon is the highlight of your whole life! Until next week....  :yes:

as i've only seen gnr once, and that was last night, it has to of been last ngiht! omg it rocked, and when axl introduced izzy, i was sooo happy, and i coulda cried in patience, i very nearly did. it was so.....ahhh amazing.

there have been too many to pick one.  it could be the day back in 1987, hanging out at the rainbow, slash came in with a n AFD cassette with a huge smile on his face, it was so cool, or maybe the first big arena show, I can't even remember where I saw them first outside of the strip, or last time with the old band, Dayton, Ohio, Jan 1992, i think of that show every time someone complains about late starting shows.  the show started at promply 1 am, it was snowing big time out side, parents that were outside waiting for hours for their kids to some out were pissed, but the fans were having a great time but the fans.  it was a killer show.  the hammerstein show in may was pretty significant for me.....not only was it a great show, but i couldn't help but think "axl is fucking back", and with Izzy too, it just made it even more special.

The first Vegas show was the most unreal of them all.  If you were scared before NYC, it was nothing like that year.  Everybody in line was checking each other's tickets to see if they were real.  Until the doors actually opened at midnight nobody knew if this was the real thing or not.  Nobody knew what Axl looked like...no new songs had been heard to date except for Oh My God 2 years before.  That was a crazy experience.....not only the show, but waiting in line to know if this was really going to happen.  Killer.

July 5th-6th 2006 :smoking: That was amazing! Altough I hope that the highest highlight is still in the future :beer:

also, when i first really realsied how amaizng they were, i was staying at a friends house, and she put on welcome to the video's, and we watched it over and over all night, i already knew most of the songs on there, buti didnt know much gnr, but that ngiht, i realised how amaizng they were, i could feel it inside that it was gonna be something big, i can tell when i get obsessed wiht things befor eit happens, and from then on i've loved them lol

hehe..to se a swedish TV show called " aim for the stars" where people sang covers and dressed up to the people who?s song they sang..someone did that with Axl ..and he wore the white pants / white leather coat with GNR - logo at the back..he sang paradies city..haha...that was a revolution for me...then i didn?t think of GNR untill 3 years ago when i bought appetite..now i have every record and alot of bootlegs

And then i saw them in stockholm 26/6 - GREAT !!

shit the last 7 weeks have been my GNR highlight so cool to finally get out and see them in different venues and countries after being a fan for so long getting to meet so many cool people/geeks from the board its just kinda sad now it finished. It was weird because i split up with my long time partner in May it gave me the oportunity to go to Greece and the 4 Uk gigs and Hammersmith so she did me a favor in the end sort of. Just counting the pennies for USA now

got to say that july 8th in oslo was my gn'r highlight!!!

june 28th and july 29th wasn't to bad either!!!

all in all, all the six shows i've been to on this tour have been fuckin' awsome and i must say that my gn'r hunger has defenetly been treated in a proper way!

so the first time was at hammersmith - i was SO excited i was at the front row crushed against the barrier. it was a long wait for them but when i heard the opening riff for WTTJ i lost it! the atmosphere was so wild, i was just so happy to see them infront of me! highlight from that show was finck coming out along the front and stopping at me and leaning against me  :drool: magical

Leeds being my first GNR gig will always be special to me.

But I guess this summer is even better in some regards.

Seeing the new band 3 times - Hammersmith was awesome. Just there was a feeling in the air that something special was happening and that we were lucky to have tickets. Obviously the meet up as well and all the cool people I met or met up with again - Jarmo, Fieldsy, Adz, Kim, Sam, Ian, Gonz and Sarah.

Donnington - oh my god Izzy Stradlin has just walked on stage. Never been to a stranger gig (well except the 30th) - first half there was so much tension, bad blood in the air and then 2nd half the band nailed it.
To think I could have met Robin if I had hung out with you guys 10 more mins (Jarmo, Adz, Graciela). Gutted

Wembley - Again awesome to meet people - Christos, Anythinggoes plus the rest.
Band was great then Seb was great! Strange but cool.

Hopefully more GNR in the UK next year.

My new highlight is the one gig I had the privilege to see during this tour, in the RDS, I didn't have the money or the freedom to travel to see more than one show, being only 16, like some of you did, but for that day I felt like the luckiest person alive, I got to see my idol just a few yards in front of me, with some good buddies, can't be beaten.

My biggest highlights are probably seeing them open for Aerosmith & driving from Michigan to Ohio to see them on some race track with Skid row.

 Funny thing about the Aerosmith show...We bought the tickets not knowing that G'n'R would be the opening act. What a great suprise when it was announced about a week or two before the show.

It was also cool to hear both G'n'R & Skid row play new stuff before UYI 1 & 2 & Slave to the grind were released.

My GNR highlights are borrowing a copy of AFD on vinyl from a good friend way back in the early 90s and it blew me away and I haven't looked back since.
Catching a Headbangers Ball special on mtv back in the day and managing to record on VHS GNR Live at the Ritz Ballroom when their tattoos were still wet (excellent!), but most of all taking my wife to the NEC Birmingham on July 25th and seeing her speachless for the first time! What a gig, what a band. Rock n' Roll!!
P.s any ideas on how to cure the wifes Axl withdrawal symptoms?

My ultimate GNR highlight would be the first time i seen em live, may 14 Hammerstein Ballroom.  :yes:

Highlights for me are seeing them for the first time in so long at Hammersmith, that was beyond words.  Then Birmingham NEC for a totally awesome show, then Download because I had an absolute blast that weekend, so good I cant actually remember most of it! ;D

I remember waiting in line overnight to get tickets on the UYI tour. My buddy and I just had TONs of bean dip and Dr. Pepper to tide us over. We had a blast listening to GNR and getting great seats. We had pretty bad gas the next day, but at the concert some chicks showed their boobies on the big screen so it all worked out in the end.

I would have to say my "pilgrimage" to Layfayette Indiana in 1989 to do research on Axl for a college paper. It was a life changing experience. Walking the same streets, meeting some amazing people. I achieved a greater understanding as to what truly influenced those Lafayette boys into greatness.? : ok:

I also spent time in Hollywood and even passed out drunk at the Whiskey ? just to say I did. Not a life goal I recommend kids?? ?:no:? :-[

Well, I worked for Big FD down in Laguna Beach from '96 until 2001, that was quite a highlight.? Speaking with Axl a few times a week and hearing Doug's old tour stories was the best.? :)

My highlight was the firt time I seen them here in Rotterdam The Netherlands in 1992 , also saw Slash live at the MTV European Music Awards playing a great solo right in front of me which was awesome in 1997 with Backstreet that was fenomenal :beer:

well i have been a fan of GNR since I was 9, but my highlight is probably the show I went to in Albany NY, 2002..It was the first time I saw them, and I was in the front like 5 feet from Axl...that was awesome...The hammerstein shows were cool too....

Now we have our beloved GNR back, with an amazing tour this summer in Europe and another one in America, tell the most special GNR moment you have lived.

Mine was a dream come true. I thought that I would never have the chance to go to a GNR gig because when they went to Spain in the 90?s I was very young and wasn?t allowed to go. But this year my dream became true. I got the chance to see them twice, the first in Madrid and then the second and here it comes my most special gnr moment, the second time was in my hometown!! I live in Almeria, a small town in the South of Spain and I had dreamed with this so many times I couln?t believe they were coming. It was the best concert I?ve ever been to and I?ve never felt the emotion so strong. I really really enjoyed every single minute of that show and it?s something I?ll never forget.

I'm a great fan of rock music (especially Magnum, god they're good) and I started to listen to Guns N' Roses two months ago. I don't regret a second. I quickly...err, acquired their stuff from the internet and is now a fan, although I've never seen them live.

The highlight except for getting introduced to them must be when I heard 'Better' the first time... It's so good it makes me cry, and I don't doubt for a second that Chinese Democracy will be their best album yet. Change is good, you just gotta learn to accept it.

The truth is that seeing your idol on stage is priceless!
Any artist has ever made me vibrate and feel the emotions I felt like Axl.That man is a God when he?s on stage :love:

Getting Appetite when I was 13. It turned me away from rap and hip hop and opened the doors to everything rock and metal.I've had devil horns in the air ever since.I'm 32 now.

Seeing the band in San Francisco, and hearing Axl say. "You make it all worth it." to the audience.  Knowing that I was a part of that equation was really special, and it warmed my heart.   :love:

My highlight is seeing Axl perform in front of millions on MTV in 2002.

I didn't even realize how awful he sounded until much later. I rocked out to that video clip for like a year until one day I was like, "Wow, his voice is kind of absolutely dreadful."

I cried for eight days when Steven Adler was kicked out of the band. On the ninth day I realized I was only a year old and the reason I was crying was because I had diaper rash. When I grew up and actually knew who Steven Adler was I didn't really care. But I think if I hadn't been a year old when he was kicked out I maybe would have cared.  :yes:

Inland Invasion.  It was an all around amazing show.  They played every song i hoped they would.  Rocket Queen was very nice to hear, its probably my favorite appetite song.  It was an amazing show...i'll remember it foreva.

My first concert ever was GnR in Houston UYI. Sound Garden opened but we got there late and missed them. They opened with Night Train and it has been one of my favorite Gnr songs ever since.
That was my highlight until Sept. in Vegas. I was at both shows. It was incredible! Sat. show was the best "Better" rocked Bumblefoot doing "Don't Cry" solo was awsome! I caught a guitar pick from Bumblefoot. To be in such a small venue to see GnR. just dosn't get better than that. To be standing there waiting worndering "is he going to show?", " how long are we going to wait" "what are they going to play" and then you hear opening cords to Jungle! Damn it still gives me chills! I stood there when the show was over in awe... and then I relized I had tickets for the next night. Best concerts I have ever been to! Checking every day for the album knowing its coming... makes me want to fly to Chicago or Canada. Fan for life!

1993, weird highlight, I was in the old band's last show in Buenos Aires... I would never thought that was the last time I'd see the original band together.

2000, when I heard Oh My God for the first time... I said "My dad is Back!!!"

2001, Vegas: It brought tears to my eyes.

2001, Rio: It brought MORE tears to my eyes!!

2005: When I downloaded 4 leaks from CD... I went WOW!

Some great moments.

First time I heard GnR I was about 12, back in 1988. Myself and an older neighbour I used to hang about and smoke with was always playing tapes to me that he'd copy off guys from his boarding school. I remember listening to The Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones and then he came along with this recording of Appetite for Destruction, it sounded amazing and as a kid back in 1988 it was great to hear someone swearing in a song. I recorded about 5 songs off him that night before I had to go home and went to bed playing the songs. Next day I ran over to record the rest. After a few weeks I went and bought Appetite on tape. I was blown away when I saw them on TV, they looked as cool as they sounded. They were on Headbanger's Ball playing The Roxy and it was class/ I remember my mother giving out to me and telling me to go to bed cos it was on kinds late but I pleaded with her to let me watch it. Soon after bought GNR Lies and probably had one of my first wanks looking at the inlay card  looking at the naked woman. I thought these guys were the baddest and greatest band ever. During the summer I'd cut grass to be able to afford to buy a new GnR T-Shirt every week. The guy who introduced me to GnR died a couple of years ago, I'm thankful to him for introducing me to the greatest band that ever was. I saw them in Slane Castle in '92, May 16th. It was a very hot and sunny day, best concert ever, I saw the new band this year in the RDS, Dublin, another great show. I'm still excited with the new band but nothing they do now will recapture the magic of the old days when they're tattoos were still wet.

my highlight i would say was seeing axl scream "you know where you are!!" opening jungle in halifax nov 20th for my first gnr show. i couldent believe it was happening.

I remember thinking, when the host of the VMAs told the audience to have "patience"(in an Axl-esque way), "you better not be fucking joking!" 

I also remember buying Appetite at some crappy mall record store and having some store clerk, concerned about my age, try to convince me that, on the back cover pic, Slash was holding a large bottle of cola.  Uh-huh.

I'm hopeful that my next two great moments will be in Chicago in five days when I finally see GNR live for the first time and when this damned album finally drops!

it was october,sunday evening(8.00-8.30PM),don't remember exactly the date when i saw for the first time Don't cry video and it was like  :o .the very next day i felt deeply in love with them  :love: .

Being down front against the rail at the May 15th Hammerstein show (My first GNR show.) I don't think I'll ever be able to recreate the feeling I felt when the lights went down and the band walked onstage. It was fucking electric.  :drool:

Seeing the band in donnington in 1988 and then this year.  all releases from the band have been highlights for me and hopefully the next highlight will be the "SOON" to be released "chinese democracy".  soon being the most important word.

1.First time seeing them 9/20/06 at the warfield, anticipation building, lights down. I was up front, so I could see the shadows moving around backstage, and slowly creep onstage, until they tear into jungle and everythings let loose. I couldn't believe I was finally seeing gnr, it was amazing.
2. The next night, right up in front of Robin, he kept giving me weird looks, and started handing me bottles of water. Then during bumblefoots solo, he put down his guitar and laid on his stomach so his face was right next to mine, and tried to tell me something. I couldn't hear what he was saying at all, and he realized it, and just gave me the biggest smile ever.
3. Last, but certainly not least, in fact, probably most, was meeting the band later that night. I had gone to the concert alone and not wanted to wait in the bad neighborhood by myself, but had a hunch and stayed there. About an hour later, Dizzy came out, then Robin, then Tommy, who kissed me. I never expected Axl to come out in my wildest dreams, but it happened, and I was just in shock/awe. I've met alot of bands in the past few years, but never expected to meet/get a picture with Axl. I'll never forget either of those nights.

Hearing YCBM for the first time when I was 14 and thinking it was the greatest thing ever... then buying AFD and being briefly dissapointed that YCBM was not on there before realising I was very very wrong about YCBM being the greatest thing ever...

Getting the UYI albums and being blown away. Coma... Locomotive... Realising that you did not have to be a great singer to carry a great tune (So Fine). Being amazed at the couplet "The only validation is in living your own life, vicarious existence is a fucking waste of time" and deciding at that point that my life would be my own, and I would not waste a single moment doing something I felt I should not be doing.

15 years old in mid-GCSE making the journey from Liverpool to Wembley Stadium for my first ever concert in '92... fighting my way to the front to get a good spot and then being half dead before FNM even hit the stage... After going out for a breather I managed to get to the front again for GNR... Before having to get back out before the end of It's So Easy... It sucked to be 5'2" at a GN'R show. Thankfully I grew a lot in my late teens :)

Lying down at the Milton Keynes Bowl in '93 before GNR hit the stage.... Black Sabbath (the song) was playing on the PA when rain suddenly came from nowhere and by the end of the song I had slid down the grassy bank as it had turned to mud... I was a mess :)

Izzy Stradlin being introduced at the same show when he was filling in for Gilby after he had broken his wrist. Slash taking the piss out of the British weather by playing Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head... and hearing them play Imagine in the middle of Patience... When leaving the venue I bumped into an old friend from school, despite being 200 miles from home. Since we reconnected at the show we have kept in touch and are so close that I am now godfather to his 5 kids....

Docklands in 2002 and going with an "impress me" attitude. Being slightly dissapointed when Slash was knocked off the pedastal I had placed him on, only to see him replaced by Buckethead. Realising that Axl had conquered his demons and was having a blast with the band and poking fun at himself. Being given vague details about the album and believing that it would be out in 2003... Charging the stage during Paradise City with one of my oldest friends who had never seem them before despite being a die-hard fan.

Hammersmith 2006, drinking heavily from for 12 hours before they even hit the stage. Hearing them play Beautiful (a song that I had always championed as being a great tune) and having 2 old friends finally agree that it was an amazing piece of music. Howling with laughter at Ron's foot guitar - being as drunk as I was it seemed to be the funniest thing ever! Baz... Whatever people may think about him taking the stage, I love the guy. I have seen him twice before with Skid Row and he just never changes! He's a fucking legend!

Most of all, feeling priveledged that I grew up with the last true rock and roll band. Kids today are so deprived of fun when it comes to music - they either listen to manufactured "music by numbers" Green Day-alikes or shitty Nirvana wannabe's who want to show the world just how fucking miserable they are and how much they want to die whilst getting married having kids, not doing drugs and knocking back nothing stronger than Evian. Back when I were a lad music was fun... Rock and Roll still had plenty of sex and drugs to fuel it, and we listeners had more fun as a result!

Right when the opening chords of "Jungle" started and the place went insane, everyone was looking for Axl to come from the side of the stage. I looked around and then spotted his shadow in the center of the stage and just fucking went nuts "THERE HE IS!!!!! THERE HE IS!!!!" I'll never forget it!

My absolute GN'R-Highlight of the year was Rock am Ring, Germany. Even though it was damn cold that night, many fans waited until almost 2 am, when the band entered the stage and Axl's "YOU KNOW WHERE THE FUCK YOU ARE" made all of scream!  :D : ok:
It was awesome to see him up there in such a good mood, making jokes with both, band and fans.
Most important moment of that show was when Axl recognized the flag I had printed especially for this show. "Hey, nice sign - thank you" was his comment, while my flag was shown on the screen besides the stage. I could hardly believe he was truely looking at me... but he was - and that made this moment the most special one in 2006 for me.

-Hearing Patience for the first time when I had just woken up and realizing this was something really good. The guy on the radio didn't tell who the band was so got up and RAN to my computer while singing the lyrics to myself..before googling them and finding more music etc. Never looked back since.

-My friend who lent me all his GNR dvd's when he found out I was interested and handed me one in giftwrap (when it wasn't even my birthday) and welcoming me to "the club".

My GN'R highlight would have to be..november 21st 2006..me n my best friend wayne left school at 2:30(right before 5th period math class :hihi: ) to go see GN'R in saint john....I got us a spot right at the front of the door closest to the stage..and we got right up against the railing...the highlights of that night

1.during sweet child(before axl introduced the new guys for the "average " fan :hihi: ) i yelled out " bumblefoot " really loud n he looked right at me,nodded,waved,then smiled n went back to playing

2.around the end of paradise city mr. thal walked across the front of the railing with his guitar held out for fans too touch,..i was kind of spacing out n when he got to me i loooked at him n awe n he looked right back with a huge grin on his face n  i saw him mouth " go on" n he moved it closer for me and i got to touch/strum his guitar.

  bumblefoot is an excellent mamber of the band,a good player and a nice guy

The first time I ever saw the Sweet Child video.

I just caught the end of it, but it was just so dark and nothing like I had ever seen before.
The band looked so bad ass. First thing I ever saw or heard of Guns.

Then, the first time I heard Appetite. I remember it being just the darkest thing I had ever heard, I was hooked after that.


Oh yeah, and all of 2006.

Well, i have these GNR highlights:
when I was maybe thirteen, older brother of mine brought MC Appetite For Destruction. My first impressions? Basically good, but I was metalhead and Axl & Co was...too soft for me. Anyway, when UIY was released, every girl in our school loved Axl, wanted to be (with) Axl, which was very frustrating...for me. Because I wasn?t like Axl. Neither Slash or Izzy or...dunno.
Now I am thirty, working in czech magazine Instinkt - I wrote an article about Axl?s life - GNR addicted and looking forward to Chinese Democracy. And who?s the blame? My friend, the best GNR fan in Czech Republic.  : ok:

I probably became aware of GN'R around 1999, when I was 11.  I knew the AFD classics, WTTJ, SCOM, and Paradise City (my favorite then and now).  My appreciation has only grown since then.  The events of 2006 really excited me.  Hearing the leaks convinced me that GN'R was not just a great, classic band, but a great, contemporary one too.  So when the fall rolled around I decided that I needed to go see 'em.

I headed over to Madison Square Garden on Novemver 10, 2006, to see Axl and the boys.  The place was electric and went crazy when Robin was playing the opening to Jungle.  I can't really distinguish much between Jungle and Paradise City, just because it was such a continuous experience for me.

Probably the only true highlight I can distinguish from the rest of the show was November Rain, which is one of my favorites.  The band, the crowd, the lighting, and, of course, the pyro towards the end just sent chills down my spine.

Well, being a fan for almost 15 years, I had many highlights, since the day I bought AFD until I saw Axl in flesh and blood.
The most important for me was the Rock In Rio III concert.
When the concert was announced, I didn?t take it seriously. I thought was another rumor.
I knew that they had done the new year?s party in Vegas that year, but I could never imagine that after that, Axl would come to Brazil. At that time, I didn?t have much informations about the musicians, what they were playing...if Axl was really about to come back to the mainstream or not.
I have spent almost my whole life watching Axl on tv, listening over and over to the cd?s, looking for news...
All of a sudden the guy that wrote the soundtrack of my life, was standing right in front of me, singing the songs that I grew up listening to.
It?s impossible to discribe the feeling. I bet most of you that has seen him alive, knows exactly what i?m talking about.

Now i?m really optimist, it seems to me that the cd is comming out this year. The tour have been a huge sucess and I really want to have the pleasure to see Mr. Rose live !

I forgot to mention that when they played Nightrain, Robin Finck was crowd-surfing!

Rock In Rio 3. the show wasn't all that great but it was such a memorable moment and a great time to be a gnr fan.

Playing miniputt in my friends house while listening to AFD for the first time in 87 or 88.

Yes, I really mean playing mini putt IN his house. We'd play for hours, breaking everything in site. Was that really 20 years ago?

14th January 2001. Rock in Rio 3. My sister used to listen GN'R a lot... I was too young when they were in the top. I remember that I knew some songs but I wasn't a fan yet. God... I remember how I loved Madagascar, how I loved the "Sossego" thing from Finck... when they played Patience my sister said "stop everything. This song is damn beautiful", so she started singing along. She said "wow, they got a new guitarrist as good as Slash". When they started playing knockin' on heavens door, the presenter said "this is a version of the success knockin' on heavens door". So I was wondering what kind of song would be that. I knew the song. During the song I even started singing the chorus! :rofl: I will never forget that day.
"Do you know where the fuck you are? You're in the jungle, baby! Wake uuuuuuuuupppppppppp". In the middle of the song... "you know where you aaaaaaare? You're in the jungle, Rioooo! You're gonna dieeeeaaaa... (breathe) aaaaaaaahhh". Then everyone went nuts.
Finck saying "Obrigado Brazil. Valeu, valeu... valeeeeu" was priceless too. "Thank you, Brazil. Thanks, thanks" is what he said. Right after that, Sweet child o' mine. Wow I remember how excited I was at that point. In the 2nd part of November Rain, "bucket's eyes" were scaring. I remember that part too. When the show started, it was 1:30 a.m. When the show ended I wanted to drink water. Almost 4:30 a.m.
This is my highlight until I see them live this year  : ok:

 I bought appetite for my good friend Megan last christmas.And before she moved to otawwa I took it form her.And she was down visitin in december and forgot to get it back stil :hihi: comin down next week hopefully she doesnt remember ;D

big big highlight of course discovering the band oh so many years ago....
but the biggest to me worth mentioning is the gig in oslo june 28th 06, a total mindblower...the band playing tight as fuck......not even missing the other gunnergods i have spent countless hours watching on dvd and listening to boots of somewhat debatable quality.
axl was at a peak that night, high spirited, poking fun at those deserving it.
even got me some cool pics that night even though they were tiny as hell cause i just had a crappy cellphone as a camera, not that my recording of november rains ending sounded any better...but a memory for life.
and can finally proudly say i have seen the boys live.

when axl screamed "you know where the fuck you are" at wembley arena ... the whole of the crowd was jumping around and seeing Izzy was cool too.

December 6, 2006 - Calgary, AB

Getting four backstage passes to my favourite band in the world. Doing things backstage that I probably wasn't allowed to do (remember Chris Pittman looking at me weird as I inspected the pyro gear with a rum and coke in one hand). Was told by a security person that I could go anywhere I wanted with my pass, so I did. Ended up on route to the stage while Sabastian Bach was on, got pretty close then was "asked" to not go any further. Was given strict instructions at that point by someone more senior than the person that told me I could go anywhere relating to access to rooms, stages, etc. Saw a lot of people (not including GN'R band members that I've seen in pictures with Axl, not sure who they were, but they looked pretty busy to start asking questions). I asked and asked for Beta, but no one knew who she was! I guess I should have asked those busy people. Was a really cool experience, and hope to do it again! Big thanks to "those" that got me back there! I tried to find you all to have some drinks at the party after, but it was just too crazy a time and so many "people" there! You're all the best!

During this whole event an even more memorable moment was watching the opening act (girls stripping to music - can't remember their name) with Robin Finck making small talk about GN'R and the show that night (we were standing basically in the crowd by a backstage door with only a minimal wall of security - almost directly across from the stage on the other side of the stadium). People walked by without a clue who he was, and I was hoping so bad that someone I knew would walk by and be like "what the f**k are you doing back there?". Robin was one of the most genuine people I've ever met.

seeing the band at wembley in july last year with the same mate I saw em with in 1993 at milton keynes....

Having my mother buy the Illusion cassettes the day they came out, going home and listening to them for 14 years.

Seeing them live for the first time in Toronto in 2002, except Buckethead's dances were very strange that night.

Summer of '91 - The night before tickets went on sale ,? 8 or 10 of us went down to the arena to camp out . When we arrived that evening , there were already about 100 people there camping . I had just started dating my future wife (God rest her soul) . lt is one of my fondest memories of her . It gives great comfort knowing that two things that I love are so intimately connected . Anyway by the next morning , there were over1000 people at the arena . It was one hell of a party . Most of us had never seen the band before , so the atmosphere was electric . Over the next few weeks , the anticipation was almost euphoric . Needless to say , on 29 june '91 we were BLOWN AWAY .

While working as a cop in NYC it was cold and my birthday.? I was assigned plain clothes and I snuck into the Ritz and saw GnR "Live at the Ritz"? I remember thinking that if these guys don't kill themselves, that they'll be one of the best bands of the future.? I was right.? I was also deaf when I left (I was real close to the amps).? The only concert that rivals it (In a Small Venue) would be Ozzy at the NYC Palladium in 1981.? (Mind blowing shows).

Spending a night on the streets after the first Wembley show. Haha I had done the same just a few months earlier at the Hammersmith show. I knew they wouldn't finish until 2am but didnt care. I liked sleeping rough in london ~ made me feel indestructable lol.

4 years old, watching Paradise City video on MTV with my two teenage sisters while my parents (who wouldn't let us watch MTV) were away.  I fell in love that day and never looked back!

1. Watching UYI Videos in tokio 92, the first song YCBM alive n they got me.
2. Live at the Ritz GN'R 1988, God the original line up, Amazing!.
3. Reading the review when Izzy played again with Axl last year (I was crying meanwhile).

The First Hightlight Came in 2002: After finishing listening to Welcome to the Jungle on my CD player... I turn on the MTV VMA's only to see Jimmy Fallon shaking with excitement in his Gn'R t-shirt introducing the return of my favorite group - Guns N' Fuckin' Roses!!! :drool:
Then I looked up the tourdates - and the next highlights came while seeing Gn'R twice in 2002 in Toronto and Albany!
Finally the latest highlights came this year while at 3 shows this past year - 2 Hammerstein shows and another show in Toronto!
And I'm sure the shits..... I mean the hits will keep coming! : ok:

Top moment- When the lights went down and the spotlights came on at the first Sydney show on the 23rd, before Robins teaser notes of WTTJ. Knowing they're just about to come out.

The two concerts on the 23rd and the 24th in Sydney are probably going to be the benchmarks for me- first time seeing them.

1. End of 1987 and my mate plays us a tape on the school bus, it started at Paradise City and everyone on the bus laughed at him when we all heard the start of the song, "this isn't heavy" everyone said but I bought the tape after that anyway.

2. Nearly tossing that tape in the bin when Dad loves the song Sweet Child O' Mine

3. Given a bootleg of them live at the Ritz and being blown away

4. Skipping a day of school to get UYI only to find out fog had kept the plane out of the state! Waited all day to finally get it right on closing time!

5. After years of spending too much money on memorabilia finally getting to see them at Calder Park, Melbourne 1993 (couldn;t keep the old man away either for the record)

6. Seeing them again this year in Melbourne, yeah the wait was worth it too!

I remember it well. Twas a cold February 2006 evening.I was in my living room watching some bullshit T.V being all depressed and shit. My hair was just starting to get really long so I was happy about that though!no more gay stage for me :)!Anyway...I'm there thinking about what a bullshit summer I'm going to have and my sister calls to me from her room "You like guns n roses don't you?". I could have slapped her cos it was a stupid question. I was like "Yeah,Why?". "Turn on the radio there" she said and she shut her door and went to sleep.
Naturally i was excited and flicked on the radio and scanned a few channels till i got to the only cool radio station. And thank god they were still talking about it..."Guns n Roses playing in the R.D.S Dublin on June 9th". (They also said they'd be supported by Motley Crue,which was obviously bollocks!). I cried for ages. I nearly cried every night up to and including the gig.
Anyway...it was the best summer of my life. BEcause of Axl Rose and a girl I fell in love with...who subsequently dumped me so i had a crap autumn,winter and spring.And i'm currently having a shit summer...But thank you Axl Rose! :rofl:

i would have to say hammerstein, 2006.  msg 2006 is a very close second.  even though msg was technically a better show, something about hammerstein made it a little more special.  the intimacy of the venue plus i think it was at that show that i felt axl truely was back, not just a rumor or a fabled album.

After years of no gigs at all and months of "he won't show up". Getting there early so i could get right to the barrier at the front. Bored by The Offspring and Prodigy. When the intro to WTTJ hit everything was worth it. Years of waiting meant nothing.

And that was the same night i decided my son was gonna be called Axl!

seeing "live at the ritz" for the 1st time.

I have two great memories that aren't from the concerts that I've been to:

• The first is in 2006 when the tour was starting and pics were coming out and stuff like that. Things were very exciting and I remember going to GNR.com for the first time and seeing the Download Festival videos. I wasn't following super closely, but seeing Axl's awesome threads and his rip-roaring banshee wail was awesome. I enjoyed the 2002 tour but I liked the hardcore rocker look to the football jerseys and the band had improved so much.
• The second is a kinda funny one when I was watching a bootleg of them in Budapest. During "Better" Robin got a little frustrated and walked offstage and Axl didn't notice and when he finally did he had this look like 'where did the third guitar player go'? It was priceless.

The first time I heard Appetite as a 7 year old back in 87, up to then I thought Bon Jovi and Europe were the baddest motherfuckers on the planet. Then my big brothers freind came in with a cassete with Guns N'Roses and it was just incredible, I had never heard swearing on a song before lol. I used to turn down during its so easy and out ta get me so my mum wouldnt hear ;D. I remember jumping around with a tennis racket playing along with it, Nightrain was my favourite.

Seeing GN'R in Glasgow in 2006 was probably the best night of my life, from the build up in the afternoon meeting my freind, to the opening notes to Jungle and seeing Axl standing 20 feet away screaming with the crowd going fucking bezerk... :drool: honestly I have never felt a high like it without copious amounts of drugs.

Last night and today... its just been amazing, from the suprise news last night to the build up on Radio 1, me and my freinds texting each other with updates. Hearing it on the radio prime time this morning and tonight, seeing gunsnroses.com emerge from its slumber with the song, the release date and the countdown - its been a blast and a such memorable day. God knows what release day will be like : ok:

Last night, when I go home after a terrible day of work and I enter to Here Today Gone To Hell and I found that Chinese Democracy comes in November 23. Then I could listen in an official way the single Chinese Democracy. I am really happy and I am counting the days for November 23.

One of my highlights is getting all this info recently, and hearing the "Chinese Democracy" single.

Being sent Live Like A Suicide on vinyl by a friend who lived in L.A at the time. She said that Id probably like this new band that had produced their own Ep...How right she was!!!

Buying the bootleg live CDs (I have 7 of them) that were released by a guy from South Australia after he found a loop-hole in Australia's copyright laws (that loop-hole has now been fixed) and hearing the November Rain piano demo and guitar demo for the first time.

Buying Live And Let Die single and hearing Shadow of Your Love for the first time.




There are others...But these would be the highlights.

Walking into Best Buy and purchasing the 5th studio album from Guns N' Roses titled "Chinese Democracy."

Walking in to Best Buy yesterday and seeing the large display case with so many copies of the CD.

Not knowing which copy i wanted...

I got the one in the middle from the very top row.

Actually getting to buy the new Guns N' Roses album and finding out it is probably the most solid GnR album ever made, not one filler song at all.

Buying my copy at Best Buy at 9am with my best friend.  It reminded back in the day, when music was good and exciting to go pick  up at a store.  It was weird being 25 now and remembering back when I was little picking up UYI I II.  I'll never forget Nov 23 2008.

Buying Chinese Democracy and realizing it's possibly the greatest album ever made!

There are a number of them for me, here are a few-

1988- Friend of mine plays me Appetite For Destruction after class one afternoon and I fell in love with it.  I bought it on CD a few weeks later, the very first CD I ever bought, and I still have it!  I was 10 at the time.  The album that totally changed my life.  I still listen to it at least once a week, even 20 years later.  Just an amazing rock album.

1991- Seeing the You Could Be Mine on MTV for the first time and trying to record it on tape by holding up my stereo to the TV.   :hihi:

1991, Sept 13- Release of the Illusion discs, right before my 13th birthday.  I had to wait until the 26th to actually get them since my mother bought them as a birthday present.  And like any psycho fan, I stayed home the next day to listen to them as much as I could.  I spent the next 6 months pretty much just listening to them, alternating weeks between I and II.

Mid 90's- Release of the Making the Videos tapes and the Tokyo show

Fast forward to the present since I really lost touch/interest until recently

November 23, 2008- finally buying Chinese Democracy

1989 - Meeting Slash and Duff at the Long Beach Grand Prix.  I was only 14 at the time, and saw Slash and Duff wander into the Marlboro Suite, each with a chick on their side.  I went up to Duff first and asked if he would sign my Suite Pass and he said he had to get some food first. (I assumed he was blowing me off).  I then went up to Slash and asked the same thing and he replyed "Yeah, if you can hook me up with another pack of cigarettes."  I looked up at him and said "Dude, I'm only 14 and we're in a Marlboro Suite, I think you can find more smokes."  He laughed and signed my ticket.  Then Duff walked over to me and did the same.  Both were really cool.  I asked if Axl was there too and they said "No, he doesn't like shit like this".

I still remember Slash's shirt that day, it said Long Beach Grand Prix: Hard Rock and Big Tits

December 12th 2008. Dexter. Enough said.

Absolutely. Getting music career advice from Axl Fucking Rose is the ultimate GN'R highlight for me. What a night! I will never forget it.  :)

Yeah, 2008 will go down as one of the most rewarding years in GN'R fandom's history.  :beer:

Top 3 in chronological order...

1) When I was introduced to WTTJ in my school cafeteria by some long forgotten {name} blonde...I bought the tape that day, and remember having to go all the way to 'Strawberries' to find it.
2) Buying UYI II - my friend bought UYI I - at 'Strawberries' and running home to listen to them end to end.
3) The day Gn'R posted CD on MySpace and I had my own personal concert...didn't get much else done (except post here I think).

I also believe the best is yet to come.  : ok:

1) Somewhere in 1988: Seeing the 'Paradise City' videoclip on MTV and beeing totally blowed away by it. This was my first GnR experience. Things would never be the same anymore after this.

2) 1990: Buying UYI 2, my first GnR cd.

3) August 14th 2002, Pukkelpop: First time I saw Gunners live

4) June 20th 2006, Paris: Best GnR live show I have ever been at.

5) November 21th 2008: Release of the long awaited Chinese Democracy album and buying it instantly.

In chronological order:

- 1987 when me and my friend watched a home-made video compilation recorded from Sky Channel or similar (back then MTV was not hit on our shores) and suddenly we  stared at the telly, then each others, back to telly. What the fuck? What's that intro and who is this guys screaming and acting like a real punk.  Mind you, at that time metal charts were dominated a bit different acts than these days. "Welcome to the jungle...er... what's that suppose to mean?" Little did we know but the song was shit hot. Gotta find out what's ongoing and get hold of the album! Which we finally did.

- 20.8.1988 Donington when me and my two friends (one has since passed away) saw them on stage in front of huge crowd of over 100.000 metal maniacs. Doninton festival was their only appearance in Europe that year - or remaining decade for that matter. Sadly the gig was not as good as expected due to various reasons  (http://www.gnrontour.com/sets1988/19880820reviews.html) beyond the band. Axl's trademark "Do you know where the fuck you are Donington? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZtqiWJt7jg)" sounded almost too timely and surreal. Jungle. Yes, it was a jungle or more like a battllefield. Not to mention his last words when leaving the stage "Don't kill yourselves!" Sad it was too late for those two guys...

- 29.11.2008 when we had our annual combined pre-Christmas party and fishing trip in Finnish archipelago. Only the closest friends, good food, loads of beer and assortment of best ever made metal records. This time it was mainly Chinese Democracy which got air-time, thanks to my friends. I somewhat doubted the quality of music until I heard it the first time, wow! After that I have given it a regular spin on my CD player. I don't know whether it's worth waiting all these years - sooner the better - but it's a damn good record by any standards.

Ah, and BTW this is my first post on HTGTH.

My #1-

It had to have been '89 right after the Patience video was shot.

I'm from Lafayette, and Izzy had just bought this really nice place in the country in Lafayette.  Everyone around knew Izzy had just got it.

I'm in my basement doing whatever when two of my friends (remain nameless) come down carrying a guitar case.

They open it up and it's this really nice Guild acoustic, I'm like, "where did you get this thing?"

I realize I'm staring at the guitar Izzy played on the Patience video.  I'm like, "you have to take this fucking thing back to him."  They say..."we saw the red pants from "the Jungle" video, but we didn't take those"...jeez.

I call a buddy of mine who's working at a radio station and tell him what's up.  He agrees they need to get it back to him, but also says it would be cool to record a couple tracks with it at his studio.  They have a decent studio mic that feeds into a tape deck.  I'd been playing guitar a couple years by then and was cutting my teeth on everything, esp. tracks from Appetite & Lies.  So we jetted over and recorded a couple tunes (I think one was Patience) and the next day the two guys turned themselves into the police.  They said Izzy never took any action against them.  My buddy at the radio station still has the tapes.

My #2-

I moved back to Indiana after some time out West and didn't go back to Lafayette for a couple years (was in Indianapolis), but after 9/11 I decided that family was something I wanted to be around.  So I'm like "got to start over back home, ugh".  I'm jobless for a few weeks and go to a local music store called McGuire Music to ask about giving bass lessons.  I'd had a number of years of sales experience and got a call about working part time on the sales floor.  I thought "surrounded by guitars all day...why not".  I was only there for a few months, but on my last week the owner pulls me aside and said, "Izzy just called and wants us to sell some of his guitars on consignment"  I come in the next day and there are probably 15-20 guitars, plus a Yellow Slingerland drum kit he used on some of the Ju Ju Hounds tracks.

I'm opening case after case looking at these unbelievable guitars and start to notice a lot that I had seen when he performed live with GN'R.  Me and the other staff members are just geeking out over this, finding pictures online saying "that's the guitar, I'm holding it right now!" Then we also notice a bunch of custom picks, a ton of Ju Ju Hounds picks, plus about 5 GN'R picks (owners got dibs on those).  I ended up grabbing one of the Ju Ju Hounds picks which sits in front of me every day at work along with my prized Cher Tour 99 pick.

So somehow I'm cosmically linked to Izzy's guitars, who knew?

24/11/08, going to buy Chinese Democracy. Had to go to work, but went and bought it at lunchtime. Took the earliest lunch possible, and one of my colleagues said he'd never quite seen a grin like it as I walked out to get it. And then of course, sticking it on, and just thinking, "wow, I'm listening to Chinese Democracy" it was amazing.

Thats fuckin' incredible.

What happened to the guitars? Anyone left?

The concert in 2006 Fort Lauderdale< Florida......I was on line waiting to get in the venew and they didnt open the doors until make sure the band gnna show up, I was w my friend who just came from Southamerica to see GNR, .when they finally open the doors we run in to the venew and we had floor tickets and we were just in front of the stage, we couldnt belive it!....Bach was first, Paparoach second (I almost took off Jacobis glove but he didnt let me)....and finally after waiting more than an hour they palyed, I had friends in other locations upstairs included my sister and her husband, they wrere calling me every 15 min to ask me if they gonna show up, I told them who the fuck they think I am?...GNR manager?....so they asked me to find out and the security people said they coming in a few, a night that never gonna forget, the best concert ever, I cant wait to see them again, but this time I will follow the band to two more cities around my area.

Me and my buddy took our own beer for the day. ( 12 litres of cider! ) Only to be told we couldn't take it on site. We hatched a plan. I went into the venue and directed my mate from the top of a hill to an unguarded barrier. He then proceeded to throw the 6 bottles over to me ,one of which snagged on the barbed wire spaying cider everywhere! As i was retrieving the cider i heard the sound of  screeching car tyres. My mate was being chased by security. I sat at the back of the arena, surrounded by cider thinking i was gonna be Biily No Mates for the day. An hour later there he was! He got a bollocking from security but was allowed in. We stayed in the same spot suppin away till i heard this riff. It was the first time i'd heard Sweet Child. I turned to my mate ( Maxi ) and uttered two words " Fuckin Hell! " We battled our way thru the crowd. It was mayhem. At that moment i realised i was watching something special. As GnR finished their set we turned away and i heard Axl shout " Don't kill yourselves " We had no idea that 2 fans had died till we arrived home. Euphoria turned to sadness in seconds. That day will live with me forever.

The owner of the music store told me that Izzy had a few instances where people were trying to steal this stuff because of the Gn'R ties. I think he finally got sick of it since he wasn't really playing them.  I'm not sure if any of it is left?  A lot were sold at the store and the owner helped him out through ebay.  I'm in there once/twice a month, I'll find out more about it.  I'll see if he has any Ju Ju Hounds picks left!

So he sold them for what they were then without mentioning himself or GN'R?

Izzy is just too cool for school. I'd fuckin love, and would take up a loan, to get a hold of one of his old hollow bodied Gibsons.

I talked with the owner last night.  They sold 11 all totaled, clearing around $50,000.  One was a '59 Gretsch Chet Atkins (sorry). 

They sold a number through ebay with pictures of Izzy using the guitars, so his name was attached to them.  This was about three years back.  Izzy picked up what ended up not going, most due to the high value.

He had a Sunburst Telecaster that I think is one he played on UYI tour.  I want to say it was a '59/'61.  This thing was trashed.  All the bindings were coming off and parts of it were held together with duct tape.  In the condition it was in it appraised for $20,000!  Nuts.

I asked the owner how Izzy got most of these guitars and he said they were normally given to him.  Izzy said that when they would play big market shows (New York, Chicago), guitar reps were constantly given them high end guitars, must have been rough.

Sorry, no Ju Ju Hounds picks left either  :'(

Highlights?  Hmmmm.... When I was in high school, my brother got tickets for us to go the GnR/Metallica show in Dallas.  He also went to the one in Houston the night before.  I remember him grabbing my hand, (we had general admission- floor), and running as fast as he could to the front of the stadium.  We had lots of friends with us following.  We got to the very front.  I remember during Metallica, it was awesome, but I had room to move around and such, and then freakin' GnR came on, and it was crazy.  I was pinned to the railing right in front of the stage that separated where we were from where security was right in front of the stage.  Got to watch the whole concert right there on the front row.  Amazing.  I'll never in my life forget the way Axl did this hip move during Mr. Brownstone.   You could have killed me at that moment, and I'd have died happy.

Also, 20 years ago, I remember me and my boyfriend, (then, husband now), hearing Patience on the radio, and we both said, "That's my song."  It has been OUR song for 20 years now.  Everytime one of us is lucky enough to hear it on the radio, we call eachother to tell what station it's on.

There are also the various parties, (I'd like to say all from my adolescence, but I'd be lying), when there would be tons of us at a party just freakin' singing along with GnR at the top of our lungs.  I swear everytime I hear the opening of Sweet Child, I revert right back to a teenage freakin' girl.  I think I have a memory connected with every song on AFD.

Even still, there was 1992 when I was a junior in high school.  Our football team won state, and on the way to EVERY game all over Texas, we all listened to UYI in the cheerleading van.  Went to state in basketball in the next few months and did the same thing the whole time.  It was, like, good luck for us.

Wierd that a bunch of Izzy's guitars get sold on ebay and noone here picked up on it?

I'd be sure to put myself in serious debt for one of those he he!

Well I have a few so I'll start with the first time I ever heard GNR.  I remember being 10 years old and my dad wanted me to go with him to the record store and to get a new cassette of some band he heard about named Guns N Roses and all I could think of was all the other crap he listened to. (60s and 70s classic rock).  I waited for him while he ran in to get it.  When he came out I was dreading having to hear this new crap he bought.  To my surprise when the first notes of WTTJ came on my jaw dropped to the floor and I have loved them ever since.  My other experience was on December 6th 2002 when I rented a limo to go see them in concert.  As we all know the show did not go on.  After the show as I was leaving the arena I heard someone make a comment to me that I look like Axl. (I had my hair in braids like him and a bandana and football jersey on) Well I swear that it must have echoed through the place cause I was chased out of there by what seemed to be maybe 500 fans back to our limo.  Me and my girlfriend at the time barely made it to the limo before the limo was surrounded by a bunch of pissed off fans.  They rocked the limo and wouldn't let the driver pull off. Finally we got out of there and a couple of miles up the road. We thought it was over by then but all of a sudden some speeds up next to us yelling FUCK YOU AXL.  I  thought it was fucking awesome. Anyway those were a couple of great memories to share with you guys and it's the damn truth.   Axl anytime you need a body double hit me up.

I'm one of the "new" GN'R fans. I'm only 13, so I've only liked 'em for a few years, but don't judge my "credibility" or whatever.

There are so many.... I think the first one was when I fell for a guy who got me into GN'R
The second was when I fell for Axl, who got me so very entirely irrevocably into GN'R,
The third was when I got all their CDs for Christmas 2009
Fourth was when I finally mastered the lyrics to every single one of their songs
Fifth was when I heard Axl's piano solo from the Chicago concert (I think not sure which concert it was from. All I saw was Axl and all I heard was keys) It was so beautiful, and I had an out of body experience while listening to it.
The sixth was when I found out Axl's house had burned in the California fire.
The seventh was when I read Axl's answers to your questions on HereTodayGoneToHell.com. I laughed, cried, smiled, and it was a lot of fun to read. The part that made me cry was when Axl talked about almost being hit by a helicopter while in an airplane. I almost had a heart attack.

I hope there are many more to come. Because Guns N Roses is my life!

I'm a younger fan. 19 years old. Didn't get into them until I was around 15.

- Hearing Paradise City at the age of 15 in my backyard on a local radio station. Seriously, I thought that was the greatest song I had ever heard at that point. And I recognized it (You know how we all were when we were younger..."Hey I know this song! Don't ask what its called or who its buy, but I've heard it before!).
- Downloading (and of course, later buying) AFD and the Illusions Albums. I think I had those on repeat for most of the year.
- Reading about Chinese Democracy. Honestly, I didn't know a thing about 'Chinese Democracy' until tour rumors started in early-mid 2006. I was naive, and thought for sure the album would come out that year  :rofl:
- Guns N' Roses show for Winnipeg in December 2006 announced. I nearly shat myself when I heard that my mom won free tickets. The show itself was AMAZING!
- Hearing This I Love. Words can't explain how blown away I was when I first heard that song.
- Being at a Best Buy at 11:45 on the day of Chinese Democracy's release, and buying it.

Wow, guys.. just saw this thread. 

I too have so many GN'R Highlights... but the biggest and best so far came at the Rock N Rev Fest last week in Sturgis.
