Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I have heard conflicting  opininons on this very important fashion issue. When I attended the Madonna concert I put on my cutest Madonna wannabee outfit but no Madonna tee. I wore really cute clothes to Vegas with skulls and roses but not GNR. Some people in line in Vegas said that it was tacky to go to a concert wearing the band's tee. I have also heard this from people who work in record stores. What do you guys think? This is  a serious question for the inquiring fashionista who wants to know! :hihi:

I've been to a shitload of shows, it doesn't matterwhat you wear, nobody gives a shit.

The only thing that ticks me is when people buy tour shirts at the start of the show and wear them. The people in Philly in 02 must have looked like idiots. LOL

I did that in Vegas, simply because I wanted a shirt before I spent all my cash on booze. And I wore it right away so I didnt have to carry it.....

I am way too shy to ever do that! It's just that I have so many clothes that I am having a hard time deciding what to wear. I am also really upset about something that happened at work and I am trying to distract myself.

i always try to wear the bands t-shirt, or i wear a band thats t-shirt that i know they like in hope of them covering a song

It isn't tacky, cos if you're walking around, other fans will notice it and know that you are indeed a GNR fan. They then can say something GNR related. Yeah.

I brought a t-shirt back in 2002 and wore it inside the gig. Afterwards i was so soaked in sweat (as it was so hot in the gig) i got to change back into my original cloths. To give you an idea of how hot it was in side this gig, my thick leather belt i was wearing was soaked too.

I wore a Tommy Stinson shirt at a VR show....

Mark Lanegan Band t-shirt in London and a Depeche Mode (because I saw them in Stockholm the day before) one in Oslo for GN'R.? :hihi:

I wore my AFD shirt to Inland, then bought the Pistol Rose shirt and wore that.  Like someone said before, it's not a fashion show, wear your GN'R shirt and show off your pride!

I wore a Velvet Revolver shirt to their concert. ?I got a lot of shit from my friends who went with me. ?but guess what... ? I got picked out of the line by the local radio station to meet the band. ?because of my shirt. ?Then Slash and Matt both talked to me about the shirt.. because it was from VR's first concert ever. ? of course t shirts you've bought at the event are allowed but only if you have to - if you can put the shirt in a bag or pocket then do so and wear your original outfit.

If you have floors make sure to wear something that breathes, that's about my only advice.

But toward the topic, i'd wear a GNR shirt to a GNR concert. I'm going to see Aerosmith and Motley Crue in November .. I will waer an Aerosmith shirt (or maybe GNR) personally i wouldn't be caught dead in a Motley Crue shirt.

regarding shirtlessness, do you guys know how hard it is to find a picture of slash with a shirt on, without bad words written across it, or without a cigarette or jack daniels in his hand? Its almost impssible, i had to do a project for school and wanted to include a picture of him, all the good pictures would have been found offensive by a teacher.g ::)

I paid 45 bucks for the long sleeved star logo shirt at the Nijmegen show, and I'm damned if I'm letting any poseur fucker tell me not to wear it at the show. I wouldn't let any asshole with a chip on their shoulder tell me what to wear anywhere else. Why should a concert be any different?

I always wear my lakers style GNR vest with 'Rose 8' on the back, like somebody said before it lets people know you're a fan. To many critical nobs at some gigs, i feel like hugging people if i see them in a gnr shirt. Weird....i know

I'm seeing AeroCrue in November too, though I'm going to the Mountain View, CA show.  And I agree, I'll probably wear an Aerosmith shirt instead.

I always use concerts as an excuse to dress up in stuff I don't usually wear. I wore the white cutoff GNR jacket from Wilsons Leather to the show I was at, plus a hat and bandana like Axl used to wear. It was fun, and I'll probably wear it again to whichever show I go to next, since they'll probably be outside.

Paid for the shirt for a reason: so I can wear it when I choose.

I used to very much feel that you shouldn't wear the shirt of the band you're going to see to their own concert. Anymore I don't so much care.

It really depends.  People that wouldn't wear it are probably more shallow and feel compelled to fit in by looking different.  It doesn't make sense when you read it, but it doesn't make sense to see it in real life either...

I just bought a vintage tour shirt circa 1988 which has the tour date of the 1st show I ever attended at Giants Stadium. ?I was so lucky to get it at a good price and in MINT condition (24 bucks AND a sz. small which will actually fit me!) and I plan to wear it for sure at one of the shows because it was from the time when I had my 1st experience with GNR.

I almost always wear something GNR related to a show, I don't care if anyone thinks I am tacky. ?At the Hammerstein shows, I was in a bar nearby waiting for the line to disperse and tons of people were there in GNR gear and frankly it brought us together, talking about all the shows we have been to and such.

I don't know why it's "tacky."  I certainly don't think so.

Every show I have been to at least 80-90% of people there had GNR shirts on so I cannot see why it is tacky either.

What I find tacky is the way too old women in skimpy outfits thinking that is gonna get them in with the band though!  I saw a woman in Vegas who was checking in at least at 200 lbs. in a half top with her stomach hanging all over her jeans.  I almost vomited my grey goose and cranberry at the sight. :drool:

The one I just scored on Ebay was the one with the rape scene but they had it listed somewhat incorrectly so there weren't many bids. ?I have seen the same exact one I won go for 70 or 80 dollars as I have been watching them for a while.

It's not cool... it's not tacky either.  It's just what I wear.
It sounds like a very "metal fan" thing to do to deliberately not wear a t-shirt for the band you're going to see.  Some of these people have nothing better to do than say, "he's not a real music fan, because he's wearing an GN'R shirt at a GN'R show".  Fuck that... if it bothers you that much don't fucking look at me is what I say.
That and the people who just assume that you're wearing a t-shirt by a band you know nothing about if you're not wearing the band you're there for's t-shirt pisses me off.

exactly. i hate when people say stuff like "its not cool to wear a shirt of the band you are going to see to their show." when i go to a yankee game i wear a yankee jersey, when i go to a devil game i wear a devils jersey, so if im going to a gnr show, and i have gnr stuff that i wear regularly, ill wear it to the show. to me it shows that you really are a big fan of that band.

I dont wear GN'R shirts that you can buy at the store. I wear the ones that I get at the shows.

At the Worcester show I'm gonna wear the shirt I got in Hartford in '02, it says Chinese Democracy Starts Now on the back.

Then for Madison Square Garden, I'm gonna wear my Hammerstein shirt.

The idea that wearing a t-shirt of the band you're going to see is tacky is completely ridiculous. I suppsoe everyone who wears a Red Wings jersey to a Red Wings game is tacky. Everyone who wears thier Cowboys jersey to a Cowboys game is tacky. Everyone who wears their Suns? jerseys to a Suns game is tacky. Everyone who wears a Red Sox jersey to a Red Sox game? and anyone who wears a Gn'R t-shirt to a Gn'R concert is tacky. ::)  Like others have said it's not a fashion show. I never ever wear a band shirt that i get from a store... everyone will have the same one. I live in Houston and managed to get my hands on a GNR 2006 hoddie and shirt, and i have 3 2002 shirts, and a UYI I shirt, no one has any of these. The regular bullet logo and the AFD shirt are sold in stores and everyone has them. I buy my clothing online, have it imported, or buy it at a concert- never have i seen anyone with the same clothing as me.

I always try to wear something that no one else will have.  In Vegas I wore a custom tank and every girl there stopped me to ask where I got it. 

I did wear my Hammerstein shirt the second night I went on May 17 though!

OK, does it matter? Do you really pay attention to what other people are wearing? Do you actually think people pay attention to what YOU are wearing? NO! Especially not at a concert. I might notice a cool shirt, but thats about it. I also don't try to seperate myself either though. Cause no one gives a shit if you wear a shirt that everyone haves or a shirt that no one does. I know I wore a Gn'R shirt to the Vegas shows, but I don't know what ones I wore...lol, whats more tacky is planning 3 months in advance what t-shirt you are gonna wear.

I started this post for fun and it was meant to be tongue in cheek. Wearing cute clothes does matter to me . I also value the opinions of SOME of the people on this forum.

Back on topic, a lot of people in the Vegas line (barring us diehards that were there) had no idea who were even in the band let alone should have an opinion on what to wear.  I saw a lady on the 16th wearing what looked like a ball gown and spike heels on the GA floor.   :o

I wear whatever I put on the morning.. be that a gnr tee.. motely.. aerosmith.. or my other non musicy stuff... why make a conscious decision on what to wear lol

Haven't read through the entire thread...but I say tacky! But I'm also a female product of the 80s that thinks girls should still dress up for shows and like, I don't know, actually do their hair make up and look nice! I know I'm alone on that these days.

Also..never listen to the band on the way to the concert...its BAD LUCK!

I don't find it tacky at all. You are going to the show in support of the band...why not support the fucking band? That being said, I wore my mean machine jersey to inland invasion.

Well, hair and makeup is a given but what do you mean by dress up? ?I don't think being in full ball regalia would be appropriate especially if you are standing in a GA section at a GNR show getting covered in flying beer and sweat. ?I am an 80's product myself and of course care what I look like but I don't see why you can't look nice and support your band by wearing a shirt. ?I can see if you are going to the Opera or Theatre I always dress appropriately for events like that.

My girlfriend  is an amazing artist and designed her own pair of jeans with the rose& pistols logo on the butt and rose and vines going down the legs with the new g&r symbol . it looks sweet.

Sorry I should have explained..just "dress up" as in look nice....not just throw on a old pair of jeans, sloppy shirt, flip flops, no make up, etc.

For example, when I saw GnR in 2002 I wore a nice sorta low cut shirt, leather pants and tall boots. It seems like these days you actually look "rocker" and everybody thinks you're a groupie! I actually got comments thrown at me when I was walking to the bathroom by men that "oh look its the groupies" and was grabbed at all night. That never happens at most shows.  I remember in the old days every girl wore a mini skirt and such.

Of course, the most important item of clothing at a concert isn't the shirt...but the SHOES! Gotta be comfy that way, esp. if you are near the pit or have to stand for hours!

If you're gonna go with GnR shirt I say go vintage and Doc Martens! It was just always strange to me wear that bands  shirt to the show...I mean you're a fan.....so don't need to show it by the shirt..you're already there...plus its fun to be different than the crowd!

once I got a tattoo of Axl on my arm, I kinda had to stap wearing GnR shirts altogether.  I used to wear a Metallica shirt everytime I saw them, but I dont do that anymore.  Its sortof the new cool thing to not wear the band that you are going to see.  Thanks to Jeremy Piven in "P.C.U." for that.  But considering about half the crowd is wearing their new concert t anyway, it doesnt really matter.

I plan on wearing my GN'R shirt to Worcester. I don't see why I wouldn't. What's the difference between that, and people who bring signs?

I'm going to see GNR in Baltimore, and I think I'm gonna wear my Axl "One in a Million" t-shirt with a mini skirt, fishnets, and platform boots.? The boots are comfy, and good for toe-mashing in case anyone gropes.? ?;)

Like AylaRose, I'm a product of the 80's...? Well, I was born in the 70's, but I did most of my rock-concert-going in the late 80's and early 90's...? So I'm used to seeing (and being!) females wearing sexy outfits to concerts...? To me, a rock concert wouldn't be a rock concert without a little SEXY.? ?;)

When all's said and done, if I wanted to be fashionable/in/trendy, I wouldn't be going to a concert by a band most consider to be 80s hair-metal, who haven't released an album in 12 years.

I like hanging out before a gig, even in the city where a show is, and seeing people milling around in their GNR (or whatever) shirts. You know they're going to the show, you know they support the band, and you might strike up a conversation.

As an aside, wearing a band tee to see a small gig is always cool - small bands make more money from merch than tickets, and always appreciate it.

When I saw Guns N' Roses at the 1st Hammersmith show I wore my 2002 tour shirt. The 2nd night I wore a shirt I brought Friday night. I just wear what I want.

The crystal GNR shirt that Bandita sent me is so beautiful that I HAVE to wear it to one of the MIdwest shows!!! :hihi:

I saw tons of people wearing GNR shirts at the show I went to and it was cool.  Some of those shirts I hadn't seen anyone wearing in over 10 years, and there were a bunch I hadn't seen before at all.

I think this rule is more of an indie rock thing anyway...if you're talking about metal and hard rock, you almost HAVE to wear the band's shirt.  Nobody gives people shit for that at a Metallica show

I went to RIR'06 and the last show of this european tour in london, and I was wearing GnR tshirts (from this tour) on both occasions.

I think you should wear it, but im not against ppl that dress like the band style but has no shirt or any other merchandise

I just got 2 new custom GNR shirts for my Bday yesterday now I have so many I have no idea what ones to wear at the shows!

It's a rock n roll show. I say wear whatever you want and don't worry about what others think.  The only exception I would say is if you had meet n greet passes or plan on meeting the band somehow. I would definitely not wear one in that circumstance because you don't want to look like the typical fanboy/fangirl.

I say, if you are in GA seats, you dress very casual.  Cummfy shoes, t-shirt and jeans.

I think if you are in the seats, you should dress up a bit, classy like.  Nice pants and a nice shirt and nice clean shoes.

Probably, but I used to LIVE for breaking dress codes. Even now I still rock the dress code at work. I always have some cute Hello KItty outfit on at work instead of old boring scrubs like everybody else!!!! I was an honor student at school and that was my way of rebelling. I used to tell them that they were infringing on my first amendment rights! I think the meaning OF CHARLIE DON"T SURF was that he had a falling out with the BEACH BOYS who he tried to get to record some of his music.

I normally wear band shirts day-to-day, because I like to.  I don't really have issues about what shirt to wear to a gig.  I wore my GN'R shirt to see Mastodon and everyone else was in serious metal garb.  I think I wore my GN'R shirt to see Napalm Death too - I ain't afraid to show my true colours  :hihi:

my friend wore a GNR shirt to a Pantera concert once and got almost thrashed in the pit...HAHA.......i just wear whatever i want to concerts

I was trying to figure out why people kept looking at me and then I realized they must have been reading my shirt.  I even ran into a bunch of teens in the smoking area wearing GNR tees so maybe I have driven some traffic to the site, haha.

The roller coasters were awesome by the way!  Even the 3 hours I waited for Kingda Ka was worth it although I am still suffering a bit of neck pain!

I bought my customized European Tour shirt from this store, cost me over $70 after all was said and done but it's really cute!

Of course if you want. Why would it be tacky? It's their show I don't think it's a big secret you're a fan of theirs. As for the guy who said don't wear the shirt you bought at the start of the show, why not? It would make sense. You bought it, wear it.

i'd wear everything gnr i could find for a show. and i'd like to see everybody else do so because i could find out new t-shirt models that i could like and can ask where to get them.

Nah.  I had my custom made Izzy t-shirt at the Newcastle gig.  Captures the mid-windmill moment from the SCOM video.  One guy asked me where I got it from and proclaimed Iz to be the most talented member of the band - dam right - little did he know that he'd be on stage later on.  :)

There are cool looking Gn'R T-Shirts and there are not so cool looking Gn'R T-Shirts. So choice 1. has to involved choosing a cool Gn'R T-Shirt? ;)

Next up is the person wearing the T-Shirt. Some people are cool'er than others. A cool person can get away with wearing anything and still look cool.

Take one hot sexy babe and she can wear dirt cheap cloths and still look a million dollars.

I was just at the chicago show last night and I have to say that a TON of people were wearing GnR shirts, it is kinda fun to see where people have been.
 I thought I would never do it but last night, i changed the rules in my book.....at least for GnR. These fans are rare breeds, i think you can get away with it....it is a badge of honor, we have been through a lot.  ;D
