Title: Should Axl do with CD what Prince did with Musicology?
Post by: BurningHills on October 01, 2006, 10:12:44 AM
On Prince's Musicology tour, a copy of the album was included with the ticket. I believe these sales counted in SoundScan too.

Should Axl do the same with CD? It'd be a great way to get the word out there, IMO.

That means it will leak way too early though.

It would be a good idea... and it'll force people who don't want the album, but want to see them live into getting the album anyway.

Yeah, I still have about 3 of those Musicology CD's laying around unopened.  I am not 100% sure, but I think they changed the "rules" on that after Prince did it, and it would no longer count toward album sales.

After Prince did it, they stopped counting them on Soundscan.

They counted at first but then Billboard made some rule about no one being able to do that again.

Not sure why, but thats the deal now.

Not going to happen. They want to make every dime they can.

Yep. The guy worked around the system, so they altered the rules to block anyone else from doing it.
