Title: MLB Advanced Media???
Post by: SINSHINE on September 29, 2006, 10:28:05 AM
As per the press release...

Guns N' Roses are also delighted to announce that they have partnered with Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLB.COM) to provide their fans with premium ticketing opportunities and up to the minute information on the tour and the band's other activities via gunsnroses.com which will be launched as of tomorrow.

What, exactely does this mean? Why MLB?

Does this suggest sponsorship opps during the upcoming post season?

OR

What do you think 'up to the minute information on the tour' really means? Believe me, I'm not trying to look too hard into this, but I know MLB offers streaming of live games throughout the season. Could it be that GN'R have plans to do something similar with the upcoming tour and that's their reason for going with MLB Advanced Media?

OR

Does it mean nothing special?

Interesting that this was signed now, and the playoffs start next week!
Maybe they'll use some new GnR music with their promos for the world series or maybe it's really nothing at all.
Maybe "Better" will be the theme for the 2006 World series!?
Either that, or GnR redid the John Fogerty classic "Center Field".

MLB Advanced Media is running quite a few web sites like http://www.rehearsals.com/ and and I guess they are the behind backbone & infrastructure for new guns website.  Other sites they are running or own are:

MiLB.com (Minor League Baseball)
Major League Soccer's MLSNet
World Championship Sports Network
...

You can find more at Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MLBAM ).

It would be interesting to see if they are assigned design duties also or someone else is doing it (possibly art director of CD or similar).

I'm thinking we'll get incredible stats for the tour such as...

-How many sac bunts Tommy Stinson layed down
-Axl's pitch location (when he whips the mic at someone... steeeerike!)
-Chris Pitman's pinch hitting numbers for Dizzy Reed (I'm guessing quite low)
-How many complete game riots.... ZERO!

Anyways... should be interesting.

so it could be that gnr just contracted with mlb in order to produce a half-way decent website NOT that GnR will be actively involved in mlb promotion of its own products

It's kinda off topic, but I thought I remember Axl being at one of the play off games a year or 2 ago... anyways, I Agree more with the no involvement with MLB in a lot of things, but I feel it could make the door more wide open if the chance was taken.

I think it may have to do with ticket sales being available thru their own website. Trying to avoid gouger fees by companies like Ticketmaster. I know in Philadelphia the two arena's (where Flyers & Sixers play & used to play) are owned by Comcast. They are going to begin selling tickets on there own, NOT thru ticketmaster, as all they do now is basically sell ?tickets online, and charge a $10 fee.

Before, you would goto an authorized Ticketmaster location (Video store, Sporting goods store), wait in line & buy a ticket (Similar to state lottery tickets), it made sense to have a 3rd party like that.. Now that almost all tix are sold online, it's easier, and still profitable to sell them yourself.
