Title: Euthanizing a pet
Post by: dolphin on September 25, 2006, 06:33:30 PM
I had to meet my sister today at the vets office because her cocker spaniel got sick over the weekend and she found out the dog had cancer so it was best to put the dog to sleep because she was suffering.  I could tell by her breathing.

My sister is sad.

I hate euthanizing a pet but you don't want them to suffer.

But it still sucks. :(

Sorry to hear that.  It's one of the most difficult and saddest things to do.

Hope your sister feels better soon.

When my dog dies, I'm going to be very crushed because we're very close and is one of the best dogs I ever had.

Sorry to hear about your sister's dog. :(

Crappy news Dolphin.  Dogs are so important to humans, they're always there for you.  And as bad as this may come out...my heart's in the right place.

Be like a dog for your sister.... :-\

I'm sorry, dolphin.   :-\

I had to put down my dog afew years ago, too.  Very hard to lose a pet.

I'm sorry to hear about you and your sister's loss, as well as everyone else whose posted here.  Its never an easy decision, but at least she isn't suffering anymore.

My family and I have had to euthanize several of our pets over the years as they got sick.  Part of me always thought we should let them go naturally, because that's how they would go if they weren't domesticated, but one cat we had was very ill, and my mom wanted to put her down.  I asked her not to, I though we could keep her comfortable enough and hopefully she would go in her sleep.  She didn't.  She suffered needlessly, and made that death cry that animals do when it's their time.  I felt so guilty.
It's always a hard decision, but it is for the best.  No reason for them to suffer.  I'm sorry for you and your sister's loss.

that is really sad news, I know it's an awful feeling to do (what I call) the death march to the vet for the "final visit" -- and I have dealt with cancer in animals too--that's just tough all the way around...condolences to you and yours...
