I think something regarding a single, or an announcement of some kind about the album is going to happen real soon. 

GNR is realizing that they aren't going to bring in very big crowds without an album, or single, or an announcement.  I think this is why they are rescheduling some tour dates.  I have a feeling that towards the end of October we are going to have a single.  This way, they will have something to tour with.  I think the album will drop shortly after, and this (I believe) is why they are moving these bigger venue tour dates back, so that they have a better chance of bringing in more people.

Fact is, we can speculate all we want, but it means jack shit until we get something official.

It's funny how tickets sales seem to be an issue here in North America but not even a thought in Europe. Hmmm......

you guys are forgetting one detail.
there's no more "big" events they can use to anounce the single.
first "big" event is the first show of the tour, on oct. 20th, and that's the soonest I expect any news of the single.

the last chance went away last night with the show.
they could have used it to anounce the single, and yet they did not. that only proves that they have no itention to release the single in such short period.

by "short period" I mean, next 3-4 weeks.

my earliest bet for a single is oct 20th, but first week of november seems far more likely.

It's my hope that they'd have enough foresight to release the single a week or even 2 PRIOR to the Jacksonville date...We're really getting down to the wire for black friday scheduling here.

Yeah, but it's not necessary that a single has to be announced at a "big" event, is it? If they announce the date for a single and the album in a press release, it will be all over the press anyway - and they can start promoting the album after that. It seems logical that the release date will be revealed in the same press release as the one regarding the full USA tour - if the intentions of relasing CD "this year" is for real, which I hope and believe. Only time will tell but I'm definately hoping for good news this coming week! ?: ok:

I'm looking forward to next week, but constant use of "this year" term is telling me that the release will probably closer to the end of the year, than it is to current moment.

I can't see them releasing a seven minute single and expect it to get radio play between The Black Eyed Peas and Fall Out Boy.

I love TWAT (probably my favorite from the leaked songs), but I'd never choose it as a first single after 13 years of absence from the music industry, noone in their right minds would. It's too long, too complex and definitely not an instant hit. From what we've heard so far I'd choose IRS or Better. However, there are many more songs in the record that we haven't heard yet and they could be much better than what we've heard so far.

Also, why do they have to announce a record or a single at some gig?

A press release including the full tour and the record release date will be fine.

Everybody in the world will reprint the article within an hour or 2.

TWAT is definitely not going to be a single. TWAT is a killer epic like Estranged, but it's not a hit single, that's for sure. I think that the band should have a single on radio before the start of this tour, but who knows if that will happen or not.

The album is coming by the end of the year. And staying on topic, I think the original poster is right. I believe we'll get the single before or right around the next show. Not sure about TWAT though. I think it's gonna be something we ain't heard yet.

As far as singles go, out of the songs we have heard, I'd go for The Blues...

I think the first single will be better. ?As a title it would be a marketing dream to have a title like that. "The new BETTER Guns n Roses are back" et al. Its a song thats been in the public domain and has also the advantage of being filmed live, so expect a live video to go with it. ?Cheap to make (by comparison to a scripted and acted one) known by loads of old and new gunners alike and with a common opinion that its a decent song, if not the best of the known new stuff. ?Plus if they are gonna do the chatshows circuit like Leno, SNL, Jonathon Ross Parkinson etc, they'll be well rehearsed for the show already. ?I also think a "B" side could be a ?live track also from the recent tour possibly SCOM if an old track or I.R.S. if using a new one.

A bit of organisation piecing it together with the material already there and they're off and running. Simple really...

Well then you're in luck, since the album is coming this year.

I hope a B-side wouldn't be a live track. I hope they give us new material that we have never heard and NEVER do what they used to do on their singles. Give us some real fucking B-sides this time and stop it with album tracks and live songs. If they give us 2 (maybe 3) new songs per single, then we could get up to 8 or 12 new songs that aren't on CD.  25 new songs total for this album wouldn't be too bad.  Axl at one time did say that we would have 12(??) bonus or extra tracks or something, didn't he??  I would assume he was talking about B-sides.  Even if we didn't get all NEW songs as B-sides, I would still rather have an acoustic version of the single or a demo version of it, rather than a various live song.

Yes, singles has lost some of their old value BUT it's still nice to have one certain song played in radio stations all over the world as promotion for the album - air play is still air play.

It's still an unbeatable way of creating a buzz before a record comes out...so, I'm quite certain that GnR will be "old fashioned" with a single and probably a video to go with that before the actual release of Chinese Democracy. But my guess is as good as yours ;)

Almost all bands and artists still release singles.  It doesn't matter if you download it on your computer or not, it's still a single.  I haven't bought a single for years (on CD), but I've downloaded plenty of them (legally) and still received the b-sides and whatever else may be on them.  It would be stupid to not release a single to radio stations though, really fucking stupid.

EDIT:  If people stopped releasing singles, we wouldn't get any b-sides!!  That would fucking suck, especially if you're a fan of great bands that release GREAT b-sides.  Singles are not that "old fashioned" either, EVERY TOP ARTIST STILL RELEASES SINGLES.

Singles are still very important because of Music Videos playing a key factor, that's what it's all about these days. If you can make a memorable music video then people will buy the single if they like the single then they will buy the album.

If there is a single, I bet it'll be something we've NOT heard so far.

I'd like 'I.R.S.' to be a single, but if it isn't the first, I'd like it to be a hard rocking shit-kicking son a of a bitch kinda tune to remind the world what GN'R is all about. :peace:

Also, why is a big event needed to announce anything, just announce it on the website and let places like this do the rest of the work. ;D

The first single needs to be something we have not heard yet and needs to be teh best rocker on the album.
If i would have to guess I think Prositute would be the first single (from what I heard about it)

I wouldn't mind IRS being the first single. I think it will be A single for sure. But I really think the first one is gonna be somethin we haven't heard.

IRS is the weakest new song and wont be the single. Merck even said there are 11 songs better than it. I really dont think he would make IRS a single.

I hope TWAT is not the first single.  Start with Better, CITR or something else.  No IRS or TWAT.  I like the songs but I don't know if everyone will.

That would be really cool to have a single. I am predicting we will have atleast a release date by then, if not more. Should be interesting. I cant honestly beleive that 1 month from right now, I will be outside the venue ready to see Guns N Fucking Roses! Like, I honestly do not beleive its happening. I need a therapist :rofl:

I truly don't believe the single will be a song we've already heard. A good move to get more air play would be for GN'R to release a double A-side single (two songs) to radio/TV. It's only been done a couple of times before. As far as the single coming out before the next show, I think it will be little bit longer than that, but it would be great if it happened.

We should try to not let this thread be about what the next single will or should be, because we've done it a hundred times already. But I do think that the final MASTERED studio version of IRS will kick some fucking ass. But the first single, should be a 'rocker'. That's just how it's done.  I just don't think IRS would ever be the first single because that song has already been played on the radio many times. 

Everyone seems to forget about Chinese Democracy - the song - I absolutely love that song. IMO as good as Better and better than IRS. But as for the single - one can only speculate.

I'm going to say the first single will be a rocker, and that leaves IRS or Better. They are really the only two new songs they play consistently that I know of (as far as new rockers go).

As for when? Only Axl knows. I do hope they release this album soon though. They can't sustain many more tours with this lineup and no new album to promote, it's bad for their credibility.

I too, think 'Chinese Democracy' would make a kick-ass first single. I think the first single will be something we haven't heard, but if we had to choose from only what we've heard, I'd go 'Chinese Democracy', then 'Better', then 'The Blues'....

Better is by far the best song and got the best reception by far in the GNR world and beyong. Catcher In The Rye should be the second single, perfect song. But an unreleased song, like "Checkmate" (though its not the right title) has a great chorus and I could see it being a single.

I wasnt keen on IRS on first listens i thought it was the weaker of the songs not to say it wasnt good, but to hear the song live it fucking rocks hard so i think its a better live song than album song but we are listening to a demo so who knows what the Album version will be like.

If I had to choose out of what we've heard though.. imagine a super trippy awesome music video for Chinese Democracy. It would own. If they could make a killer music video for it the kiddies at MTV would eat it up.. without one though the song might not be as successful (as much as I like it)

Anyway, I'm pretty certain it'll be something we haven't heard yet - An ace up the band's sleeve, so to speak. I absolutely love all of the songs, but I don't think we've heard "the one" yet that will define this new band in the general public's eyes.

At the time of that quote, they were not playing Better, IRS, or TWAT, so they're all fair game for singles.

I reckon its a little complicated to release the title track from the album as a single.
Alot of people will get confused. Chinese democracy, the single, Sitting next to Chinese Democracy, the album....

Anyway, if not , Merck said that GNR hasn't released yet the BIG GUNS, even after the leaked songs ... - in second place

AND if one day Axl may have thought that BETTER, or THE BLUES or T.W.A.T. could be a single ( his " fav" songs ), now i don't think that he would drop any of them as the single because they wouldn't be an IMPACT anymore unfortunetly (or not).
We have heard "legends" of another powerfull tracks too like "THE GENERAL", "PROSTITUTE", "THIS I LOVE" - They will pick one of this

The new Intro ( 1st played at NYC ) IS VERYYYYYYYYYY original - I love the song

I normally don't buy singles. guess most rock fans either.
I say if a single will be out before the album to introduce it to the public, better will do great.
then IRS for the second/third. This way the latter will even oversell the first, I reckon.

about "before the next show" bit, I wish I knew the sense of singles in the US better.
