Title: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: blowin smoke on September 24, 2006, 04:46:46 PM Dudes! Help?
Just recently I've been listening to a bit of Evanescence and I'm not sure wether that is allowed? The more I listen the more I like, should I stop listening or not? what does anyone else think? Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: lennonisgod on September 24, 2006, 05:05:56 PM You can listen to whatever the hell you want and you shouldn't give a fuck what anyone else has to say about it. If you enjoy the music, then enjoy the music. It's as simple as that. We all have our "guilty pleasures" and I think we even had a thread about them once on here. So, just because I don't like Evanescence, doesn't mean you shouldn't and don't listen to anyone that tells you to stop listening to them. Tell them to fuck right off.

You can listen to whatever you want. Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: anythinggoes on September 24, 2006, 05:46:26 PM Dudes! Help? I was not asking for permission to listen,it was just a way of asking the question wether Evanescence were good or not with a bit of jest? I like them but I've only listened to some of their new stuff. I'm new to this forum stuff, sorry. I am 30 by the way, married and mortgaged. Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: metallex78 on September 25, 2006, 07:25:59 PM I own Evanescence's first album Fallen and it has some good tracks on there. Josh Freese plays drums on that album too if I'm not mistaken?
I've heard that Call Me When You're Sober song on the radio a fair bit and I quite like that track, so I'll probably buy the new album too. Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: Walk on September 25, 2006, 07:30:04 PM Try Nightwish instead.
Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: CheapJon on September 26, 2006, 07:07:41 AM call me sexistic but i just don't like when women sing rock music, i don't think there high voices fits the music or something, the only two women i think sing rock music good is brody dalle (the distillers) and courtney love.. my worthless opinion you don't have to bash me
brody dalle is fuckin great though Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: mrlee on September 26, 2006, 07:15:55 AM call me sexistic but i just don't like when women sing rock music, agreed. just doesnt do anything for me. the only decent one is that woman from the band "julliete and the licks" but there nothing special. however, id more than encourage more women to get into rock music, get some guitaring going!!! Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong?? Post by: AxlReznor on October 05, 2006, 05:51:21 AM When guitarist Ben Moody mysteriously disappeared from his hotel room in the middle of an Evanescence european tour - only to reappear some weeks later as a professional songwriter for the likes of Avril Lavigne and Anastacia - many assumed the worst. They thought that Evanescence had had their 15 minutes of fame and were done. That Ben was the true genius behind such hits as Bring Me To Life and Going Under, and that Amy Lee was nothing but the attractive face used to front the band for commercial reasons. Now, 3 years later, Amy Lee has returned with bandmates Terry Balsamo, John LeCompt, Rocky Gray and Tim McCord to prove just how wrong they were.
The truth is, if it wasn't for Ben Moody it seems that the band's debut - Fallen - would have been a much stronger album... Ben took the arrangements and changed them around to make them more commercial sounding. Now, without him to hold them back, Amy and the band are in their element. Opening with Sweet Sacrifice, the album gets off to a rocking start that is carried on through the next two tracks, Call Me When You're Sober (the first single, proving that they can still do straightforward commercial when they want to) and Weight Of The World. Lithium is the first balladic song on the record, but the first song to really push that epic scope into the forefront is Cloud Nine. From there, there's no let-up from a mixture of piano, metal riffs, orchestral and choral arrangements and DJ Lethal's expert programming. On that subject, I just have to say that DJ Lethal is probably a genius in his field. That is absolutely the best programming I've ever heard in a record outside of Nine Inch Nails - it's just a shame that he's in Limp Bizkit. The ultimate combination of these elements is Lacrymosa, which is based upon the violin motif in Mozart's Requiem and includes probably some of the album's strongest songwriting. The album ends with Good Enough, a sensitive ballad reminiscent of Fallen's My Immortal, but with a much more positive vibe in the lyrics. Altogether, The Open Door is a sublime set of songs that prove that Amy Lee really is the talent behind the band, and - although still commercial - the step-away from pop-metal the band had become known for should provide a huge 'fuck you' to the sexist comments about her just being a pretty face. The door has truly been opened for Evanescence to do even greater things now. Best songs - Snow White Queen, Lacrymosa, Lose Control. Title: Re: Evanescence! Right or wrong??
