Title: Axl vs Cameras
Post by: Bono on September 22, 2006, 07:57:35 PM
O.k. so while reading another thread I just thought to myself, "What's Axl's deal with cameras at the show anyways?"  Actually to be fair most concerts don't allow you to bring cameras into the show per say, but once you're in and start taking pictures of the show nobody ever seems to care really except Axl. For example(and chill out people it's just an example) when I saw U2 in Vancouver I was less than 3 feet away from Bono and I snapped many pictures with a real camera. Neither Bono nor security batted an eye. In fact Bono seemd to be posing for the pictures and playing along with it. the U2 tickets stubs clearly say no cameras or recording devices yet nobody seems to care. I noticed this also at The Killers concert and at David Usher every time I've been to see him, so I'm just wondering why Axl is so picky about it. I know why bands used to try and stop people from taking pictures at shows back in the day but these days with the way technology is it's impossible to stop it so why does Axl sometimes make a big deal out of it when someone up front breaks out a camera?

Please note I'm not ragging on Axl here, I'm just curious. :peace:

It doesn't seem like Axl does that anymore does he?

Theres tons of close up 2006 pics from concerts... has there been any recent examples?

Axl didn't seem to care really when i was snapping shots, even walked by and shook my hand :)

I don't think it bothers him so much now because he knows it's impossible for it NOT to happen with the advent of modern technology. He'd have to strip-search every single person at admission. Axl knows every person there has a picture phone and it's ridiculous to get pissed about it.

If you watch the Manchester bootleg of IRS he looks right off-stage at the cameraman at one point and stares for a second before turning back to the crowd, he knows people are recording.

That's true. I guess there ahsn't been ne of these incidents for quite some time now. Axl probably realieses  as much as anyone there's no way he can stop people from taking pictures at shows anymore.  But even back in teh day he seemed to be the only one who had a REAL problem with it. Why do you think that is? Maybe he was just the most vocal about it ;D

As long as its not a professional camera with a detachable lens, they let you in with it. They don't want you using flash at all. Axl really didnt seem to mind, I had my digital camera out taking pictures all night long on wed night with flash and everyone else did as well.

I think it's because Axl got a very big ego back then and due to low self-confidence (rooted in the trauma he went through as a child) felt the need to re-inforce his superiority. So controlling aspects of the shows was his way of making sure everyone knew who was boss in a way. I think he really did it because he kind of felt like he needed that power or something. That sounds stupid but I think a psychiatrist would tell you a lot of Axl's behavior over the years has been due to his childhood in some way.

Yeah this topic is kinda Dead Horse material now that I think about it. I can't really point to anything recently that would makes us believe he has a problem with it. I wonder if he did in 2002?

He should love the cameras, the fans lately have been getting some awesome shots and passing them around is great promo for the band.  From what I have witnessed at the shows I went to he snapped at a few people for acting out but not about the cameras.  It was more the security that dealt with cameras.

Let's not Dead Horse it yet.  The stupid assholes at KROQ say no cameras, but I just don't see how you enforce that rule with 55,000+ people.  If security wants my camera, what do I do?  How 'bout if I hand over my batteries, will that be enough?

Any tips on stashing the camera somewhere?

Not really. I never bring a  camera to any show except U2 just in case. At U2 I just put it in my pocket and when they search you real quick(if they search you at a U2 show) I just tell them it's a camera. Nobody cares. I don't know how you'd stash a  camera really ???

I got patted down fully both nights by a female at the Vegas shows.

At Hammerstein they barely looked in my bag and touched me only briefly, I could have gotten one in easily.

When I did sneak a camera into a show, I put it around the bottom of my leg and pulled my boot over it.

In Vancouver 2002 they were searching people like crazy. Going through every little item of girls purses and shit. this was ?even before they opend the doors(which the never did )

At the hammerstein show on the 15th nobody checked me at all. I was with a group of 7 and not one of us got checekd or even asked to see a ticket stub. We walked right in. The only time anyone asked to see our ticket was when we treid to walk into the lower level. they told us to go upstairs. Itw as weird.

Jim Bob is a redneck pornographer who makes all "new" GN'R fans look bad. You know when George Carlin did that skit about dumb Americans? Yeah, he wrote that after seeing Jim Bob shopping for new shorts at a Wal-Mart.

Bono is a great poster and a GN'R fan and Jim Bob is just upset that Bono's life goal isn't to masterbate Robin Finck.

bono,

stop hating on our members, and really start thinking about better topics.  or better yet

get off the internet angry little chimp.

Angry little chimp - nice one! What next - you're the cum your mom should have swallowed? Oh, wait, you already used that one. Damn! We're running out of "Lame Middle School Insults That Were Original Back in '76 When They Were Actually Original" here!

You come out of nowhere attacking another GN'R fan for making a thread about Axl not liking photos being taken at shows? If you don't like the thread then don't read it. Bono didn't do anything wrong and he has ample reason to make a thread like this after Axl Rose began a massive riot in 1991 after attacking someone at a show for taking his picture.

It happened a while ago? Yeah. So did "Appetite for Destruction."

Learn to differentiate between bashing and discussion. Just because someone brings up a touchy subject doesn't mean they hate Axl.

And BTW - I'm pretty sure personal insults aren't allowed here. Calling someone the names you called Bono, or saying his mom should have swallowed him as cum, is disgusting. Fuck off.

Why dont you go delete yourself again? after that you can REGISTER AGAIN & record some backstreet boys tunes and post them here for our entertainment. but first Ill send some brad pitt pictures, little fruit cake :hihi:

You, sir, are a homophobe. Did you vote for Bush?

Even if I were gay, so what? "Little fruit cake"? There are tons of gays that could kick your ass.

And I'm pretty sure that's another board violation for you, since attacking a person's sexual orientation is not exactly considered appropriate behavior.

I'm not gay but trying to attack someone for being gay is weak and pathetic.

I think there is a difference between insulting the band this forum is for's lead guitarist and insulting a singer in another band who has nothing to do with GNR.    I know it is against the rules to attack other members with personal insults, but I dont believe its against the rules to say something about a singer from another band who you dont like.   If i'm wrong, I apologize to the mods.

That's not the point, dude. You slammed Bono and said all he does is reply with childish name-calling. Then you called Bono "Boner." The point is - REGARDLESS of the forum's rules and regulations - it's still childish to call anyone - celebrities, forum users, whoever - names like that.

It's not a matter of "what's allowed." It's a matter of simple maturity and being a hypocrite.

Quote

Those were your words, no?

I mean, by your logic, you might as well say it's okay to say gays are all stupid and blacks should be slaves, because it falls under freedom of speech and is "allowed." As long as it's allowed it doesn't matter?

There's a point where simple decency and maturity and taste matters more than what is allowed or disallowed. Calling the lead singer of a group a "Boner" when his name is Bono is childish IMO.

You're trying to change the subject. I know you were referring the singer and not the user Bono. It doesn't matter. You slammed the forum user Bono for being immature and calling people names, then you referred to the singer as "Boner." Doesn't matter if the forum rules permit this name-calling or not. It's still name-calling, it's still childish, and it makes you a hypocrite.

I don't care for U2 very much either but they do a lot more for their fans right now than GN'R and Bono is also very much concerned with the world and the environment - you can say the band is boring if you think it is but there's no denying the guy does his fair share to make him anything but a "Boner." Oh yeah, it really sucks to donate money to dying children in Africa or participate in multi-million-dollar charities. Shame on Bono!

And I highly doubt forum user Bono's quote about CD failing wasn't taken entirely out of context.

His topics are all the same? Well a lot of people think all your posts are the same. I think Bono is one of the better users here and just because you think otherwise doesn't give you the right to try and help sidetrack his thread or call him names.

The post wasn't negative IMO and if anyone can't see that then they must have their head waaaay too far up a certain somebody's ass to be able to see properly. Just because someone posts something about a more unflattering aspect of this band or its lead singer doesn't mean they are a troll and/or hate the band - it's called discussion, and if open discussion isn't allowed and people are only allowed to post masturbatory topics praising how great Axl and Guns N' Roses is, then this would be a very boring place.

I actually like you dude, but I think sometimes you get your head stuck too far up the band's collective ass. You can love GN'R and still acknowledge their faults. I love Axl to death but I'll admit the man has been a major asshole in the past and I don't think pointing this out makes you any less of a GN'R fan. Bringing up a sore subject like this doesn't make Bono a "hater" - it just means he's not a blind Axlite.

i'm not blind, if i see faults i point them out.  read my review of the 16th and 17th shows.  I pointed out the imperfections in the sound mix on the 16th.   I will also admit when Axl is fucking up.   I would just think a fan is someone who wants to see this succeed, not coming to the boards banking on it to fail.

I myself can think of a good reason to see Chinese Democracy fail and I'm a fan.

If it fails more people will like it later on. It'll turn into a cult album and people won't be able to label it as "mainstream" or whatever. Axl will be the underdog again, the musical antihero whose album didn't do so hot on the charts. The elitists will praise it ten years down the road. There are a lot of "great albums" that totally flopped when they came out and got awful reviews because they were too ahead of their time.

I'm not rooting for CD to fail - but if it does I will remain optimistic about its failure because I think it could lead to better things in the future.

Think about it - VR's album was a mega, mega success and does that mean it was all that great? Not really. A lot of my friends hated it because it got over-played and it was so "mainstream." Sometimes people enjoy rooting for the ones that slip under the radar.

You people are lame.  You ruined a perfectly fine thread that was relevant, and I was using to make decisions and plan for tomorrow, considering KROQ posted in big bold letters that cameras aren't allowed.  I hope all you immature people get banned and go back to the board you were originally from.  Gosh, it's funny how it's always the same people who start shit and try and bring down the board several notches.  Your childish attempts will fail miserably.
