Please, don't start guessing or asking when the band will go on. Use this site to get the current time in San Francisco: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=224 GN'R should be on "around" 10PM.... ;) /jarmo Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Rainfox on September 20, 2006, 10:02:31 AM This is the gig I COULD have been to... in time to catch a 49ers game Sunday against Philly too! San Francisco  City of the living :peace: This is so brilliant that G&R are back at the HISTORIC Warfield Theater. Bad ass! So concert goers... keep those updates coming :smoking: To all going for the first time to "new" G&R?... ROCK and ROLL, people. This band is - in one word - SMOKIN'! :) RF Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: saint seiya on September 20, 2006, 10:46:03 AM I thought the concert started at 8?
Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: axlroses on September 20, 2006, 11:14:01 AM Doors open at , and technically the show starts at 8. This means Sebastain Bach is supposed to be on around 8, and GNR to follow sometime after that. I can't wait for the show tonight. It should be amazing. Then I get to go back tomorrow too :).

There was a HUGE line in front the Warfield and you could just feel the excitement.

I know the set is not geared toward messageboard people like us, but as I stated in an earlier thread, this band has got to be bored shitless of the same songs/same order , night in and night out. Let the "your not a true fan posts start...............now!

I guess members of GNR aren't bored of playing those songs cause they like them and they know that the best will come soon. But well, let's not start to talk about the "same setlist as usual" or "too much solo" stuffs... Let the "your not a true fan posts start...............now! I'm not gonna bash you for saying that. I agree with you to an extent, but I'll just say that you should listen to "Patience" and apply that word to your expectations of GN'R. We should just be happy they're touring and Axl isn't causing riots, etc...and patience is a great virtue that will lead us to the new album pretty soon. With these shows you dont need updates on the songs cause they dont seem to change much. I would be more interested in the crowd reaction to newer material as well as Axl's banter with the crowd. Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Chief on September 21, 2006, 03:22:34 AM I totally agree with you about Ron. he's having more fun and fitting in way more these days and sounding better too. I saw him running around and smiling and i love that shit. He also sometimes bangs away at his guitar like Fortus. If he would only play bluesy a little bit more, i think that would rule.
UPDATE I find that extremely hard to believe. He is terrible on Better and IRS. I am looking forward to a boot of this song.Bfoot is kicking the songs ass Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: BluesGNR on September 21, 2006, 03:22:42 AM allright axl play catcher in the rye or cvil war :hihi: Don't hold your breath Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Jim Bob on September 21, 2006, 03:22:51 AM I dont get this 'he fits so much better' shit. I would much rather hear the songs the way they are envisioned instead of having a guy in the band who cant do that but runs around onstage. I dont want to hijack the thread into another BH/BBF debate. I was just making an observation. :peace: I hate how CD isn't being played. Its one of my favorite 'new' songs. I will be praying every night that it gets played at Arco. just an observation from seeing one of the first shows BBF played with the band and one of the most recent. I do wish he'd work on getting IRS and Better a little closer to how it was meant to sound. :peace: and to keep this thread on topic, I do agree on CD. Hopefully they play it tonight . Its was a great encore starter when I saw them in NY, but in vegas they came out again with Maddy for both nights. CD worked perfectly for that. I asked an honest question about the Adams Family theme and his response was pretty disrespectful in my opinion. Some of y'all need to get a clue. I'm not bashing his updates. Like I said before, I enjoy them and definitely appreciate the hell out of them. BluesGNR, us normal people here appreciate what you are doing. :smoking:  Blues thanks again for the updates! Ended up front row, and needless to say shot a bunch of pictures (and I do mean a lot), and some video. I'm quite exhausted right now, so I need to sleep, but after I go through all the pictures and video, I'll be sure to post them here.? Look for them sometime over the weekend.
Also, I don't know if this has been posted, but out in front they had posters for GnR at the Oakland Arena, December 15th! Just thought you all might to know.... If there'd be a way to have 1 post in one thread locked for only the updater to access..... and then have a discussion thread separate.. that'd would be ideal. I'm trying to find an updater for this evening so we can do this again. Maybe we can set something up? :peace: Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Voodoochild on September 21, 2006, 08:35:30 AM 6. New(?) Fink Solo with Pedal/Echo Effect
I would love to hear that... Thanks Blues! Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: requiem156 on September 21, 2006, 08:40:57 AM Long set so far, hum? I guess, but when people see the number 23 it is kinda misleading as only about half of that are actual songs. To me, "jams" and solos don't really count. Read the setlist more like this: 1. Intro 2. Welcome to the Jungle 3. It's So Easy 4. Mr. Brownstone 5. Live and Let Die 6. New(?) Fink Solo with Pedal/Echo Effect/ Sweet Child O' Mine 7. Knockin' On Heaven's Door 8. Vocal acrobatics and sing along... (I'm asking what this means..)/ Better 9. Piano Moving Jam/ Dizzy Solo/ The Blues 10. Band Introductions/ Fortus Solo - Beautiful (With Fink) 11. You Could Be Mine 12.Used to Love Her 13. Piano Moving Jam/ November Rain 14. Ballad of the Unknown Opener (I have no clue...)/ My Michelle (With Baz) 15. BFoot Solo (Don't Cry) 16. Out Ta Get Me 17. Adams Family Theme/ IRS Why read it like that? Relatively inaccurate and more confusing.? Tracks are never broken that way.? :peace: I meant with all the solo's etc. in it, when you only look at the songs they are at 17 Who cares how they are broken down, if you read the setlist by numbers it looks like close to 30 songs were played when it is nowhere near that amount! That being said thx for doing this for the board :peace: Do you realize that every post you made in this thread says almost exactly the same thing? We get it - you want them to mix up the setlist more. How about a little less repetition for those who are interested in reading the updates? Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Wicked Demon on September 21, 2006, 09:06:04 AM Hey, I was the guy inside. What a show! Sound quality was superb. I'm not sure why soundcheck ran so late... I wonder if it will be that way tomorrow?
The "vocal acrobatics" i mentioned was just a way of saying Axl was thrilling near the end of KOHD. I headed down to the bathroom during this song, so I could be mistaken, but it sounded like we got the "i sing one, you sing one" treatment, not sure if that is regular now or not. It was a very receptive crowd, and the after the encore, the band left the stage, came back out for a bow, and left again before the lights went up. "Ballad of the Unknown Opener" was just some country jam for Bach. Addams Family theme was impromptu.. Axl sang the first line and Fortus (i think) picked it up enough for Axl to get through another line or two. Ron on Better... i can see that people who weren't there are already disagreeing :) I really DO like Bucket's work on the leak we've heard, and I've listened to a few of the Europe recordings and agree with you about that (Bucket was better). Perhaps the live energy washes away some flaws, but I really think he actually played it great and, uh, better than I've heard it plaed since the Bucket version. I grabbed a bite to eat after the show, walked around the back of the Warfield to see what was up... got a nice picture with Axl and an autograph. There were about 12 people and he signed everything and took pictures with everyone. Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: WhatIsItMan on September 21, 2006, 09:27:19 AM I grabbed a bite to eat after the show, walked around the back of the Warfield to see what was up... got a nice picture with Axl and an autograph. I like the encore business. How they are at least doing one song before Paradise City. Hopefully they will be doing three encores, that being Chinese Democracy, Madagascar and then Paradise City. Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Kitty on September 21, 2006, 12:36:26 PM Show was incredible, theres nothing else really to even say. I'm so excited for tonight. I'll be writing a nice review of both shows tomorrow.
Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Ali on September 21, 2006, 12:52:43 PM I was at the show last night, and it was fantastic. The band sounded and felt tighter than the Hammerstein show I saw in May. I think being on the road really helped the gel. Robin, Richard and Ron all played fantastically. I think Ron's playing, most notably during "Nightrain" was very impressive. Robin definitely has the most "rock star charisma" of the new band, and I was impressed with that. I thought that the new songs sounded great, especially "Better". I was pleased with the reception that "Better" got from the crowd on the floor (where I was), and surprised by how many people knew "Madagascar". The show got off to a ferocious start with "Jungle", "It's So Easy", "Mr. Brownstone" and "Live and Let Die", and ended ferociously with "Paradise City". Axl had a ton of energy, and I mean a ton. That was very impressive. I honestly had difficulty hearing Axl clearly during a large portion of the show. When I could hear him, he was hitting all the notes. He seemed at times like he hadn't yet developed the endurance that he had during the Euro tour, but I'm sure that's just a matter of time. He sounded great during "Paradise City" and really seemed to kick it up a notch then!
I got to talk to Ron a bit before the show, and he was great, very nice. I asked him if they will be playing more new songs as the tour went on, and he said he thought they would, then said "we have to", as if it hasn't been officially discussed yet. Overall, an amazing and unforgettable show and I'm glad I was there. Ali P.S. I decided to modify my original post because I didn't want my fatigue now to make my impression of the show seem less than it actually was :) Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: fishyguy on September 21, 2006, 12:57:46 PM Thanks for the review Ali.
I always love reading reviews. Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Ali on September 21, 2006, 01:09:11 PM Thanks for the review Ali. I always love reading reviews. My pleasure. I'll relay more details as I recover. Ron said some more things that I can't quite recall right now. Nothing earth-shaking, but a few tidbits. from newgnr.com 09-20-06 | San Francisco, The Warfield Review by Natalie Hey there- So, I saw GnR last night at the Warfield in San Francisco. The night got off to a little bit of a slow start. The doors were upposed to open at 7:00pm, but they didn't open until 9:00pm. There was a line up one whole block and wrapped around another one. The wait sucked but the crowd was cool. Lots of people in their early to mid 30s. We were all teenagers when Appetite came out, so everyone was swapping stories. The doors opened at 9:00 and then about 9:30, Sebastian Bach went on stage. He looked good and sang pretty well. His band wasn't all that awesome. He played the standard Skid Row songs. "Youth Gone Wild" and "I Remember You" went well. I was never a huge Skid Row fan, but he can still hit those high notes. He and Axl are really close it seems. So, finally, around 11pm, GnR came out, and the place just exploded. They started off with "Welcome to the Jungle and they didn't stop for another 2 and 1/2 hours. The band is KILLER. I thought three guitar players was a bit much, but they all brought something unique to the table. The drummer is amazing - seriously - amazing. They played the songs note for note, which I was glad because I know every song note for note and that's what I want to hear. So, about Axl. He has made me so mad over the years. He is such an ass. He took an amazing thing and let his stupid ego crush it. When I think about all the music the original GnR could have made... So, I think he knew he needed to prove something. Anyway... he was fucking awesome. His voice sounded great. Seriously, his performance was near perfect, better than he used to sound live. He was very friendly with his band, they all interacted really well. He was gracious and thankful to the crowd. No tantrums, no anger, it was really cool to see how happy he was with the show. They played everything I wanted to hear - November Rain (amazing) My Michelle, Outta Get Me, Mr. Brownstone, Sweet child, Patience, they left nothing out. He was still doing the little dance and being Axl Rose, but he was mellow and happy. It showed and everyone in that place had a rocking time. The pyro stuff was insane. I really dug it. There were fireballs, and raining sparks, punctuating the big moments in the songs. At the end, they close with "Paradise City," and the whole theater filled with confetti. I have been to A LOT of shows, and I would say this is near the top of all the shows I have seen. Everyone in the audience was singing every word. The pit was smoking. One of the guitarists, Robin Finck launched himself into the pit twice, and never missed a note. It was better than I ever could have expected, and I am so glad that I went. Don't worry about the money or the time or whether you have a good seat - GO SEE THIS SHOW! Thanks! He is fantastic, really. a good drummer always makes the difference in a Rock band. He is the 3rd best drummer Ive ever seen (1st = Abbe laboriel Jr, 2nd= Zakk from Oasis). Brain was ON FIRE on Nightrain when I saw them!!? :D Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: 25 on September 21, 2006, 03:54:51 PM it seems he liked the show but just wanted to hear new material (CD) I'd say it seemed like he wanted to go see a band that broke up a decade ago, and wasn't at all interested in their new material. Axl Rose raped his childhood. :'(Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: 25 on September 21, 2006, 03:55:49 PM about "the drummer", it's Brain. You rate the guy from Oasis above Brain? Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: nesquick on September 21, 2006, 03:57:40 PM are you joking? Do you know who this guy is? Zakk is Ringo Star's son (The drummer of The Beatles) and his is the best English drummer in the world.
Yes, Zakk is better than Brain (for me), but Brain is fantastic too. So if Brain was the son of one of the most basic drummers ever to grace a great band, Brain would move up your list? :p I've known who Zak Starkey is since he joined The Who, I can't say he strikes me as being particularly gifted. Quote I think the new record is the key... GnR have their chance. i don't think that all journalists are against them, at least not from what i've red lately. the great news is that Axl looks in great shape and almost everybody agrees on this one Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Kitty on September 21, 2006, 04:34:01 PM Heres all of my pics.

i could be very wrong. any long-term SFers out there? Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: Danny on September 21, 2006, 05:56:34 PM That poster is cool, but the "theme" reminds me quit a bit of the cover of Glenn Danzig's orchestra CD, Black Aria:

Edit: not the artist of the poster, obviously, but the artist of the sculpture on the poster. ha Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: nonlinear on September 21, 2006, 07:08:47 PM i wonder who the designer for that poster is.. can anyone find out? craig boswell at cheeba productions http://www.cheebaproductions.com/ Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: nonlinear on September 21, 2006, 07:12:25 PM I have that poster thing, too... Title: Re: Sep 20 - San Francisco Post by: KelsisZero on September 21, 2006, 09:39:40 PM Okay, now that I am somewhat fairly back to normal (although my left ear is still kinda bugged) i'll get these pictures up and write a review.? My buds and I Headed out from Santa Cruz around 2:30 or so and ended up in SF around 4:30.? We grabbed a bite to eat and then hopped in line, which wasn't very long at the time.? Around 5:00 or so Bumblefoot came out and started mingling, so I walked over and grabbed a picture with him, and ended up talking with him and his wife for a while, they are both great people, very down to earth.? Talked with Ron about Eddie Van Halen and his foot guitar (RIP), and other random things.? There was this peruvian guy who kept on coming up to him and was in awe, he wanted to give bbf his Sunglasses and his charles manson tshirt, lol.? BadNaughtyKitty, saw you there, woulda said hi if I had known who you were :).? Security was lax and allowed cameras in as long as there was no flash and no professional lenses.? We were let in around 9:00 or so and when I got to the front, they were still setting up for Bach's band.? I liked Bach, surpassed what I thought he was capable of.? During one of the songs a toddler somehow ended up on his shoulders from the croud, not exactly sure how that happened, anyone know?? They played the good old Skid Row tunes, and Little Wing, which was cool.? It was overall a great performance, I had a hard time hearing Bach's vocals due to the fact that they PA doesn't really project to the front row at all, but it was good nonetheless.? Guns started around? 11:10 or so, and it was more that I could ever dream of.? Everything was great, not really any technical difficulties I could see (except for the batteries falling out of Axl's in-ear monitors at one point, but the show went on).? Everything sounded great!? Everything was somewhat of a blur as I was caught up in the moment, so I'll let the pictures do the talking for me....enjoy!
