That's great. It's always nice to hear postive things in the press about GNR :D

He definitely liked the show:

"And if you're wondering what I was doing awake at 5 a.m., I was still on New York time, and my ears were still ringing from the Guns N' Roses concert that I attended at The Joint, an intimate rock hall at the south end of the casino.

This place is extremely cool, and remarkably organized for a rock hall.

Being the Grrr guy that I am, I was fully expecting a repeat performance by Axl Rose of his disastrous MTV Music Awards appearance a few years ago.

I was shocked to hear the singer in excellent voice, and giving a high-energy performance. I was sure there had to be a back-up track involved, until he started ad libbing his more popular tunes, and I became a Axl convert.

Of course, this isn't the original Guns N' Roses, but with Axl at the helm and some pretty good rockers on guitar, bass and drums, these guys sound legit enough.

Phantom Planet opened for Axl.

My one Grrr! is when the lead singer said his next song was about Charles Manson, but then, with all the noise and a lack of elocution, no one could understand any of his lyrics anyway. That's OK. I'm not a Manson fan, so missing the meaning of the tune didn't make me lose any more sleep than I already was.

They did do a super-cool rendition of "Phantom of the Opera," however, and I really enjoyed their performance.

I'm a little amazed (or is it dazed?) at the triumphant return of the '80s hair bands. These guys are getting older, like Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted of SuperNova, but they're still cool as rockers.

Welcome back, Axl. Good luck with the new GnR."

It is so f'n irritating when people claim that Axl might be getting help from backtracking........#1 - He would NEVER do that...No matter how bad in shape his voice may be for one night. #2 He NEVER sounds or sings the same live as he does on ANY record...If anything, he sounds better most of the time. .It baffles me that people actually think that. At least he finally said that when Axl was "ad libbing" and realized that there was no backtracking....anyone who claims he uses backtracking should start watching MORE live shows.....

I personally thought it was a compliment that the guy thought he had a backing track. ? : ok:

Any word on what the manson song was?

thanks, this was a pretty cool read.

as far as the manson song, i think it was just a song of theirs about him, and it wasn't that good as i recall.

Yeah, I guess it was a compliment....but just the very thought that he is getting accused of it......but looking at it your way, I see what you're saying. Axl sounded so good live that he thought there HAD to be a backing track.....no, he just sounds THAT amazing live.... :peace:

Yeah I thought so too. I actually don't know what to do with myself when positive press happens. I'm just sooo used to negative crap!

This is good stuff

Also, Jimbo, the Manson song was a song done by Phantom Planet, not Guns.

I was confused at first, also.  :)

the guy is actually giving Axl a compliment! a powerful one at that - stating that he sounded SOOO good, that he was convinced he must be using backtracking.

the guy is not a diehard. just a casual fan. he even gave his frame of reference.....the "catastrophy" on MTV in 2002.

IMO, it's great to see some positive press. this review seems very honest, and very very good.

Yeah, I know it was a compliment....I have a 2nd post below that one....It is good to see....I think that I just saw the words "back up track" one too many times and I almost lost it......it's all good.... :peace:

The US leg of the tour really needs some good press to generate some Guns N Roses buzz to the average joes. We know this band can kick some serious ass, we just have to get everyone else to realize this.

Fox News...fair and balanced.?

that's classic.  : ok:

great to see this guy give a fair review. i took two different people to two different shows in NY in may; both were casual fans of gnr and were skeptical prior to the show. and both left saying it was one of the best shows they have ever seen (and i plan to convert 4 or 5 more friends IF gnr makes it to philly).

so hopefully more press give a fair review the way this guy did.

What's the story with Fox News in the US?

We hear stories of corruption and of monopoly control in England. Is it one of Murdoch's companies?

I enjoy the grief Family Guy has been giving them since they got axed  ;D

Fox has no more corruption than ABC, NBC, CNN, etc etc etc....all shit...both liberal and conservative media. >:( It is part of the reason why our political system is so fucked....they brainwash people in to the two party mindset...your either republican or democrat and there is no in between.

don't always believe everything you hear. corruption is a vague term, but Fox News certianly does not have a monopoly on anything.

they are the #1 cable news channel in the U.S., and have been accused of having a conservative slant to their reporting.

although there's nothing "conservative" about a positive review of a rock band singing about sex, drugs, and violence. ?:hihi:

i hope this review is a sign of things to come in the U.S.!

Has anyone ever seen the review of Live Era where it claims that Axl sounds TOO good for a live album and that he MUST have done something in the studio to alter it? I watched a YouTube video the other day of WTTJ from a concert with Gilby (so it was the very end of the old days) and he sounded amazing. Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page) did just as much tweaking with their latest live album (How The West Was Won) but by many accounts it's a fabulous live album. I love both albums, and I think some people are just too harsh on Axl just for the sake of being jerks about things. The dude is one of the best live rock singers ever (he's obviously one of the best studio singers ever...that goes without saying), and yet people are always trying to find a reason to rip on him. The shows this year are just more proof of how great Axl truly is in a live setting. I've got a feeling he's going to surprise a lot of folks this year and next year as well.
