Post by: liesin on September 14, 2006, 09:20:01 AM
Do you guys think that there's any chance that cd will be avalible on LP?

That would be very cool, and from what I know most bands put out a limited edition of LP:s

They should release 10,000 vinyl copies of the album when it's out in the world. Some of them dedicated by the band. It would be collection.

I have no doubt in my mind that it will be released on vinyl, at least in the UK. Probably in the US as well. Either way, I'll be framing it and placing it on the living room wall along side UYI I & II (so long as the cover doesn't suck ?;D)

I know for a fact that Live Era was released on vinyl in Europe. It has Coma on it like the Japanese CD. Not sure if GH was, but I know Live Era was.

It would be cool. Vinyls are great, and I think that UYI's sound even better on LP than on CD.. And if they'd release a LP version of Chinese Democracy, I hope they would put something like an extra track on it.

Nothing beats vinyl.

Vinyl = a record (LP or 7, 10, 12" single)
LP = a full long playing record.
Regular CD = the full long playing album on Compact Disc

Vinyl sounds a little more warmer and fuller than compact disc which has come a long way in it's own right in the past 20 years.  CDs used to sound like utter shit in the 80s (for example check out the first issue of Metallica's Master of Puppets)  It sounds like it is playing in a trash can.  Most bands release their stuff on vinyl in a very limited release for the diehard fans and audiophiles (the music version of a pedophile).  Vinyl lost a lot of ground in the 90s, but now is making a slow and steady comeback because of it being "cool" to collect records now.  I still have a nice collection of vinyl from the 80's and recently locked onto a pawn shop that bought a bunch of mint condition classics and I bought them all from the dude for $1 a piece (including a majority of the Dylan and Bowie catalog).

I hope that they release it in the proper DVD-AUDIO format with enhanced lossless audio (not DUAL-DISC) that would be nice.

from the BBC:
Vinyl singles are making a comeback, with sales pushing past the one million mark for the first time in eight years.  The increase has been attributed to the growing number of teenagers buying seven-inches. Jon Brain reports.

That Gemm place I found is great for used stuff, but not so much for new vinyl. Anyone have any ideas where to get new vinyl online?

Someone answered and recommended that I try a local "mom and pop" record store. That won't work because here in Detroit (thanks to shitholes like Best Buy) they're all closed.

Any help?

dude, do you even have a turntable?  i would think that anyone with a turntable would know where to find records.....

i have a very large vinyl collection (800+), and I go to record stores whenever I travel.  I've NEVER been to a city without at least a couple of good, indie record stores.  i'm positive you've got 'mom and pop' records stores in Detroit that are still open...  the city has a big music scene, and places like best buy really don't target the same market as these types of places.  plus, minneapolis (where i was born/raised) is very similar to detroit, and we have LOTS of large, 'famous' mom and pop record storescheck your phone book.

Here, a quick google search for "detroit record stores" found this raview of record stores in detroit: http://www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=4875

Yes, I have a turntable. Not that size of album collection matters, but I've got about 250 or so LPs. Also, yes all of the Detroit stores with vinyl have closed and yes it was because of Best Buy and stores like that. The only stores in Detroit that stocked brand new, new releases on vinyl were the Harmony House chain which closed because of places like Best Buy.

What I asked for was a suggestion to buy new release vinyl on the internet, not a speech about what I can find where in a city I've lived in for over 30 years.

Easy Street Records in Seattle has a really good online store, with GREAT prices, and cheap shipping. Plus, everything is new.

I think the address is www.buymusichere.net

Chinese Democracy will definitely come out on vinyl. Pretty much everything does. And I'll definitely buy a copy. And a CD. And a cassette if its made. I have all the other albums on the 3 formats, might as well continue the trend.

Please stop replying to me. You obviously missed the point which was where can I buy NEW vinyl. There are no stores in the Detroit area that sell NEW vinyl except for 12" DJ remix wax.

Almost everything on eBay is used and Amazon sells almost no vinyl at all.

What I was looking for is a good place on the net to buy NEW RELEASE, BRAND NEW vinyl. You've missed the point like 3 seperate times now, so please stop replying.

If anyone else got the point and has some suggestions, please share.

All this talk of LP, i wonder if Gn'R have future proofed the raw material of CD. While compact disc uses a sample rate that is fairly low, future disc types, DVD, HI-Def and Blu-Ray could offer far higher playback rates.

Which brings up something I just noticed.  Some guy has Live Era on eBay with buy it now price of $149.  Is this guy nuts or is this normal?  I bought the record and CD at the same time the day it came out.   I didn't realize that the album would be worth so much.

The eBay remark was a joked that poster made that you obviously missed.

I don't care about your opinion of what stores may or may not carry new vinyl in Detroit. I asked if there was a place on the internet besides eBay to buy release, new vinyl. And again, I'll ask you to stop replying since you keep missing the point.

That is possible today with DVD-AUDIO, it can provide sample rates of up to 24 bit-192 khz for stereo and 24 bit-96 khz for 5.1 surround sound, using "Meridian lossless packing".

Quote
DVD-Audio is a format specifically designed to provide the highest possible audio fidelity capable on DVD. The audio fidelity of DVD-Audio far exceeds the quality of conventional CD's and audio on DVD-Video.

So hopefully Chinese Democracy will be releasesd on DVD-AUDIO as well. Hint hint Mysteron :hihi:   ;D

There's rumors going around that SA-CD & DVD-AUDIO are being phased out to make way for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD audio titles. For instance, Sony has cancelled all upcoming SA-CDs because they're getting them prepped for Blu-Ray DVD instead. Not sure if Universal is doing the same, but just in case we may have to wait for a higher definition CD master.

? Yeah SA-CD and DVD-AUDIO will no doubt get phased out in the not to distant future. But a high resolution release would be nice until the price of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are in the range of the average consumer.

? Here in Australia a decent SA-CD, DVD-AUDIO player still cost at least AUS$500( I was lucky recently and managed to pick up a new Yamaha combo player for less than half price at AUS$299). have not seen any prices for Blu-Ray players in Australia yet. But they wont be cheap to begin with, nothing is down here. ;D

All this talk of LP, i wonder if Gn'R have future proofed the raw material of CD. While compact disc uses a sample rate that is fairly low, future disc types, DVD, HI-Def and Blu-Ray could offer far higher playback rates.
That is possible today with DVD-AUDIO, it can provide sample rates of up to 24 bit-192 khz for stereo and 24 bit-96 khz for 5.1 surround sound, using "Meridian lossless packing".

Oh I totally agree. I was extremely bothered when Sony cancelled the next two Pink Floyd SA-CDs because they wanna put them on Blu-Ray. I'm like "But I can't afford a Blu-Ray player anytime soon!".

Not sure how prices  compare here and there but I can give you an idea of what each of those go for here. Sonys lowest price machine that will play SA-CD is $249.99 here. Their Blu-Ray player doesn't even come out until October 29 and it's going to be $999.99.

Now the good news is that Chinese Democracy is being released through a Universal company so there's a good chance they won't bother with a Blu-Ray release initially, if they do a high res version right off the bat it's likely that it will be DVD-Audio.
