Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I heard today that in post-9/11 schools are tightening up of course on security (especially with Columbine having happened as well), and a majority of schools across the nation will not allow T-shirts with the GN'R symbol (with guns) or the word "GUNS" on the shirt. So basically you can't wear any shirt except the AFD-cross (providing it doesn't say "GUNS N' ROSES" on the front) - if you go to school with the gun t-shirt or a UYI shirt you'll be forced to inside-out it or go home and change.

Maybe this is old news for some of you fans, I'm no longer in school, I was just wondering if any of you have experienced this. I only read about it today and found it humorous. I can't remember which site it was on, some random thing about school security and whatnot...

My nephew borrowed one of my old Guns shirts to wear to school (it must be cool now to wear vintage band shirts). It was the old Guns logo, the circle with the guns and roses. He had to turn the shirt inside out or have his mom bring him a new shirt because having a gun on his shirt was against school policy. I sometimes wonder as to why school are this way anymore but that would move that topic to the jungle.

When I was in high school (just a year ago) the school had no issue with GNR shirts... Yet they cracked down hard on the Norma Jean/Shotgun shirt halfway through the year (which was strange since some students had been wearing them regularly for over a year at that point)

I wear a GNR shirt to school all the time, and never has anyone stopped me or anything. I've seen a couple GN'R worn around in my school actually.

All schools should have uniforms anyhow. ?School isn't a fashion show. ?1984 all the way!!!!

My last year in HS was 04 and I had my Guns N' Roses t-shirts a few times. But then again in two years a lot can change.   

I'm glad that I am in college now. I have like 5 GNR shirts and I would be really upset if I was told to turn it inside out or change. It's just plain ridiculous.  :rant:

Yep my little brother cant wear his GNR shirt with the old logo on it (with the guns), but he wears his UYI shirt. Really fucked up. I used to wear that shit all the time.

screw that, i have a gnr shirt for every day of the school week: bullet logo(2002), chinese democracy dragon/dog (2002), european docklands shirt (2002)- all from gnronline, the UYI I shirt, and the star wild GNR 2006 European tour shirt from emp-online.com (that was a hard one to get, had to get it shipped to my grandmother in the UK and then to houston, tx)

If school kicks me out for wearing it i can sue, hey its a persons name

Like hell they should!.. This is United States Of America (for those who live here). The land where I have the freedom of choice. Not the land of "wear what I tell you too or You'll be suspended from school". (As long as my taxes pay the school boards salary, then kids will wear what ever the hell they want). Freedom of Choice all the way!!!

i had my GNR tshirt on last week in school and i got kicked out.there again,im 26 and shouldnt be hangin around schools (so my restraining order says)  :rofl:

Unfortunately, you really can't sue.  If clothing, dyed hair, extreme piercings, etc. cause a disruption to the learning environment (in the eyes of administrators at the school), they can make you change or, if you refuse, suspend you for being disruptive.  It all depends on the local standards in the community that your school is in.  If something like this is written into the school rules or policies, you really don't have anything legally you can do about it.


Your school board actually gets paid for the position?  Wow!  In most towns in my area of the state, it's a volunteered, yet elected, position.  If a policy against certain clothing is in place in your district, and  if you want kids in your district to get to wear whatever, about the only way around it is to get elected to the board, or go to meetings and speak out against it and try to sway opinion.

I'm not saying these policies are fair, but they are usually in place because someone has pushed the limit before (like, for example, an elementary school kid wearing a shirt that says "Fuck" all over it).

That's fine, nobody said you had to care in Eastern Europe. ?And I'm not saying I completely agree with kids not being able to wear Guns N' Roses shirts, but if people that are elected vote and say these shirts are distracting or suggest violence, then you have to take it for what it is and deal with it. ?It's not that big of a deal. ?You don't have to call us idiots because you disagree. ?Thank you.

What's even more fucked up is the fact that the word "guns" in GNR originates from a last name, not from a fire arm. I'd accept the no pictures of guns policy, but just as text in a band's name....  I mean, c'mon, what if the GNR logo never depicted a revolver? What if you wore a Tracii Guns t-shirt?

shit when i was at school it was uniforms White shirt Black Trousers and i tie which everyone the wrong way round so the thin part was front facing and the kipper tucked in the shirt.

USA is a strange place to be anyway - you can drive a car at your 16, but you cant drink till your 21.... you cant wear a GnR t-shirt cause it has guns on it , but you can buy a gun in every other street corner....

Maybe actually take the problem by it's roots and start looking into why the hell USA are so obsessed with selling guns on street corners instead of denying kids the right to show appreciation of the band that they love.

i have heard this and thou I think its total bullshit. It isn't going to go away. My sugestion to the band  is. Print up tee's that say GNR and have no guns. there is nothing they can do with that!! Fight the system!

yeah a smiliar incident happend at the Birmingham international airport in the UK, some dude was wearing a "Guns N Rollers" t shirt and the guards ordered him to wear it inside out because it is a terror threat or some bollocks

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. I wear my GnR- Shirts all the time. In my school the teachers and school authorities coudn't care less what everyone wears. Besides, in a free country everyone should have the right to wear whatever they want.
And I can't see a connection between wearing shirts with guns or the word "guns" printed on them and shooting people. That's just ridiculous!

i think we should care, because the real problem is violence , and we have plenty of that . kids here don't have guns but have fists. but banning a t-shirt won't solve the problem.

Whatever...I was in high school 87-91 and one my freinds was wearing a shirt that said "Van Halen kicks ass! and our Chemistry teacher made him turn it inside out.... guess he didn't agree that Van Halen kicks ass :rofl:

I was wearing my favourite GNR Shirt with "Get in the Ring Motherfucker World Tour '91" written on the back my Mom gave shit at the mall... I don't want you to wear that shirt when your out with me...hahaha funny she had no problem with the pretty tied up logo shirt that I had a little while later.

Haha, that's terrible.  I graduated in 2001, just a few months before September 11th and before that I was probably the only kid out of 2000 students in that high school to wear GN'R shirts.  I can't believe what a trend they have become as of late, that's awesome.  Of course I'm in college now and nobody is going to say anything to you about the clothes you wear. My oldest nephew is in 2nd grade and I wonder if he's too young to get started wearing a GNR shirt to school, to test out this "new rule," if indeed it does exist.  His mom would probably "shoot" me though. I'm going to guess though and agree that this rule probably does exist in the town I live. They are so fucking strict with EVERYTHING here and it gets rather fucking annoying.  Here's an example and this is a little immature, but mind you it was about 8 years ago; I farted in my English class and I was called to the office a few days later and the principal told me that if it happened again, I would get a 2 game suspension (I played basketball) and 2 days suspended from school.  Keep in mind I was a freshman in high school (about 8 years ago as I said), so I can't even imagine how much worse it has become since then! I'm just waiting for the headline, "Kid in Guns N' Roses t-shirt shoots and kills classmates."  Then the media will start saying that "people that listen to Guns N' Roses shoot people."

My school banned ALL rock tshirts back in the day, but rap shirts were ok (this was done by our bitch-nazi of a principal who hated children and had no place being in the education business). It didn't matter what was on the shirt either, if it was a rock band your parents were called in. Funny thing some kid wearing a cop-killer shirt was ok because it was rap (Ice-T).

Seriously, that's how fucked up some of these nutjobs really are. Promoting murder is fine so long as you don't listen to the "devil's music" that is rock n' roll.

How does hair and piercings cause a disruption? Yet another way the educational system is essentially a way to control kids and try and mold them into the "norm." And people wonder why kids rebel.

If they really think that this is going to stop any sicko who wants to shoot the whole school, then go ahead.

my high school had uniform. Underneath it we could wear whatever T-shirts but gosh it had lots of silly rules. almost surreal,  like on the length of skirts, the colour of socks.... so ridiculous that everyone was like the rules were there to be broken. And tried to dress down sneakily. Made me laugh.

A kid at my school wore a guiness shirt, he told the teacher it was for the book of record, his dad got it with a case of beer

It works as one, but that's not why they chose the name. Scott liked the word "Velvet" and they chose "Revolver" for obvious reasons - because of their relation to Guns and because Slash loves the album.

I know my kids are still wearing their gnr t shirts to school, most of the teachers and principals like gnr.

A 6th grade kid at my school showed up to class in a Guiness shirt earlier this year...I asked him about it, and he honestly (no kidding) thought it said "Genius."  He had never heard of Guiness before.

I graduated HS in June, and I never had a problem with the above said situation.
