Or rather, the Wii has a date.

Video games have kinda passed me by, but it seems smart they are selling it for about 1/2 the price of PS3.. It may help them retain their share of the market. $500-$600 seems like alot of money.

The bowling game sounds cool.

I've sorta watched the Wii with ?mixed reaction. ?On one hand, I'm a bit skeptical, and on the other it looks freaking cool. ?Zelda, Metroid, and Mario all look killer....but the controller still wigs me out.

But, having said that...I'm gonna get one. ?I've broken down and decided....especially considering the drastic price difference between the PS3 (I have a Xbox 360 already).

$250 doesn't seem so bad to me.  And the neat thing is you'll be able to both play all the old GC games and purchase older games on line (lots of 'em).

Well yeah it's bad cause that's the price in US and Japan but in South America it will increase to $350 tops  :-\
Older games?? you mean like Super Nintendo or N64 stuff? or just the gamecube ones?

you can download NES / SNES / N64 games for 5 / 8 / 10 dollars
you can play GC game from your GC cds.

+ a real media center : news, weather, message board, avatars, all online. you won't even turn on your tv channels, everything will go through Wii.

the system is gonna kick ass. Wii sport is gonna rule. i'm glad my girlfriend is here with me now so i have someone to play against :)

usa : nov 19th
europe : nov 24th
japan: dec 5th

Again, it all depends on your income bracket and perspective, I guess.? For me, $250 is not so bad.?Less than a days salary.? And compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360...it's relatively cheap.? Heck, it's launching for less than the PS2 or original Xbox did.

You'll be able to DL and play, supposedly, every nintendo game ever made for a relatively smalll fee (5/8/10 bucks-ish).? In addition, I think (maybe I'm misremembering) that they got the old Turbografx 16 libarary, too.

And it will play the gamecube cames right off the gamecube CD's.

WAT-EVER...any word on the sensor bar?  I'm sure it needs to be put somewhere on or near the TV...but any idea who well it works with flat screen-ish (DLP, not Plasma or LCD) type TV's?

i remember that they are 3 things
the sensor bar, under the tv (type is not important)
and 2 little separate satellites on the side.

i played Wii sport and it really feels right.
on the other side, Red Steel from ubisoft still lacks the "fluidity", it's feels heavy and un-natural.

i wonder how much the controlers will cost, cause you sure do need 2 sets.

It has to go "underneath" and not on top (I can rig up a stand for it)?

That actually might be the deal breaker for me...it can't go "underneath". ?Too close for the kiddies to get to. ?Not "on top, with the two sattelites on the entertainment center towers (which are at the same height as the top of the TV)"? ?Cause that would be the better set up for me.

Controller prices are:

Nintendo revealed that Wii's various controllers would be available to buy separately at launch. The Wii remote will cost 3800 yen or about $40; the nunchuck 1800 yen or about $20 and the classic controller 1800 yen or about $20.

And games will be $50, not $60 like the 360 and, reportedly, the PS3.

Edit: Never mind, I found an "official" nintendo faq stating "72. Where does the sensor bar go?

Recommended placement for the sensor bar is to have it placed either directly above or below the display screen."

Perfect!

September 13, 2006 - (This story has been updated with new and clarified information from Nintendo's North American presentation.)

Nintendo fans finally have a price and release date for the company's new generation console, Wii. The Big N has officially announced that the system will hit retail in North and South America for $249.99 on November 19. The New York Times initially published the story and seems, in fact, to have beaten Nintendo Co. Ltd with the news.

Aaaaaa, finally the new generation ofconsoles is arriving.
Finally people start abandoning Playstation 2. Fuck i hate it so much it is hard to type.rawr.
It was obsolete piece of shit even when it came out. Because Sony has a pact with Satan it has been the markeat leader ever since. Thus, majority of   games need to be done by it's shit standards.
It is like going to school, and really wanting to learn, but you have this one retarted kid in back seat because of whom things need to be explained 5 times, really slowly. And you really hate the kid.But you can ram a dvd inside his mouth, and enjoy the movie, so you still keep him around.

Wii looks like it could be fun. Console industry has been so fucking boring last few years.
Finally someone is atleast pretending they create something  new, instead of just putting a bit more fresh computer parts inside a cool looking plastic box.

The Wii is going to be a lot of fun. I look forward to playin the classic Mario Kart on the big screen instead of the computer monitor. The motion censor has potential to also be alot of fun. Nintendo wont let us down. Yes the Gamecube wasnt much but at least Nintendo stuck behind it.

As for consoles the 360 is the one to go with.

I'll be camping out at Best buy (or circuit city) to get mine. :)

It does look interesting.  I'm still a bit unsure on the controller, etc, but it looks promising enough to take the risk...especailly at THAT price point. :)

i am a huge PS2/PS3/Sony fan but i have Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 and i still love nintendo.

In general Nintendo tends to be geared towards younger audiences but i still would get this system.

The new Zelda game alone, ?looks like its worth getting the system for.

Its also much much cheaper than Playstation 3.

i really dont play video games much during college, more during the summer so i'll probably wait, but i'm really torn because both this and PS3 look awesome.

the new controller thing could really fuck it up if its not done right but im sure they perfected it, its defiintely a cool concept.

Gamestop is Evil.  Trust me, I used to work (oh so long ago) in management at EB's.  Both those companies (well, now ONE company) are Evil incarnate.  Not that BB and CC are any better, I'm sure...but my exposure to those companies has been ONLY as a customer and not as inside....so while I can vouch for the pure evil that is/was Gamestop/EB's from the "inside", I can't do the same for CC and BB.  Thus, I tend to actually BUY things from CC and BB.....easier to delude myself that I might not be contributing to the downfall of mankind I guess.

When you trade in 4 year old games or last years sports title what do you expect?  if you don't want the game anymore, what makes you think others will be quick to snatch it up.  If you could sell it for more than what EB/GS offers you would right?  The point of EB/GS is that they always take your game, no matter if people want it or not.  Supply and demand my friend.  They're not doing you a favor or being your friend buying your used games.

Yeah, you gotta admit though...markup was (and still is) insane.  Take into account the fact they're not paying developer fees/cuts on those games, and their profit margin on used games bordered on the criminal (figurtively, not literally).  I mean, hey..people do it and it sure makes them more profitable so you can't fault them for it, but....yee gods I'd never trade in a game there unless they were running one of their "trade x# of games get one free" deals.

I know our local FYE pays more for used games, and actually charges less than anyone (including Walmart) on most new releases.  Of course, they're literally in the same plaza as the local EB's, so...that may have something to do with it.

Gamestop and EB have pushed used games to drive up their margins, to be sure, but have ticked off some of their regulars in the way they've handled things.  It was one of the things that pushed me out the door.  That and the turn to VERY aggressive sales tactics and pushing of those stinking game warrenties.  The system warrenties I could understand, to some extent (but even then I'd only push 'em on systems we knew needed 'em like the Gameboys and original playstations)....but even the agressiveness we were told to use with those wasn't my cup of tea.  And the way they pushed us (management) to make "quotas", the selling of shelf space to sub par products......

And don't even get me started on how, in the early days, we were "encouraged" to repackage "mint" used games as new and sell them.

Evil, evil, evil, evil....:)

The rumor is that Best Buys (and I'll confirm this weekend) will be getting anywhere from 40 to 80 consoles at each store for launch.? If you get there VERY early, or camp out, you'll probably be able to get one on launch day.  But Randall is right...I wouldn't expect to walk into a store at noon on launch day and be able to grab one.? In addition to that, it looks like there will be a steady, and relativley abundant (compared to PS3's or Xbox360's last year) supply going out between launch and January 1.

I plan on getting a Wii on launch day at midnight. I think it will be a very fun console to add to my collection. I have a 360 and love it, November is gonna be a bitch on the wallet.  I cant justify spending an arm and leg for the PS3 when the 360 is by far the better system right now. The 360 will offer something different and fun and enjoyable games. I have always had a Nintendo for the fun-factor.

Well, to my knowledge no one filmed, or interviewed, me during my 20 hour wait in line for the Wii on launch day.

And I wasn't even first in line....the guy who was first WAS interviewed.  Which is sorta funny, actually, as he'd ditched work that day to go wait in line.  His boss was quite interested and called his cell around 11:20 PM (about 10 min after the story aired on the 11 PM news).......

Surprisingly, he didn't get fired...but he did have to work on the next day.......

I've heard the stories and seen the pictures.  That's why the wrist strap (and some freaking restraint when swinging the controller) are your friends! :)

As for the numbness and pain....it's like any repetitive motion: Do it for long enough and it's gonna hurt.  Do it for too long, over too long a period of time, and you'll get Repetitive Motion Injury (or carpel tunnel).

The key is: Don't spend 12 hours a day playing with your wii or you'll get sore (Yes, bad joke completely intended).

Give me a break, i hate how people are trying to say this is exercise.  yeah you move around more then you would playing a regular video game, but its not like you're going to the gym.  I guess its better then just sitting on the couch but you're not going to lose weight playing Wii

Today the Nintendo Wii was finally released over here in the UK.

And I was finally able to get it along with ?The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess?.
Although there one problem that being that I haven?t gotten anything else for it, considering there was nothing out there that I could find that would interest me, although I can?t be sure cause I haven?t bought anything else for it.

So is there anybody here that already has a Wii that can recommend some other good games for me to get for it other than Zelda?

Red Steel is a great idea with sub par executions.  I've heard some say once you get used to the flaky control scheme it's not as bad, but...I'll pass.

Trauma Center is fun, but then again it's close to "home" froma a professional standpoint so that might be why I like it so much.  It has gotten good reviews.

They Rayman:Rabbits (or whatever it's called) is LOTS of fun, though be forewarned it's essentially a collection of mini-games.

Elebits, once it comes out, looks like it will be  pretty good.  ExciteTruck is good, but not great.

Is there anything you're thinking of specifically?

man, nintendo may do amazing games, they're stuck in stereotypes like it's their job ....? ::)

You'd rather have a fat white man dancing badly and a muslim guy getting some zen action?

Why do you think something gets to be a stereotype anyway?

ahah that was funny !!   :hihi:  love your saracstic humor !

When I saw that I definitely thought it was cool. While I don't always agree with some of the stuff Nintendo is doing, I think this is awesome and has great potential.

yes,

i can totally see a SKIING game, and with the two remotes being the Ski poles ...

same thing with any FPS game, you could play standing and the pressure you apply to the board can have impact on the game (dodging bullets, crouching ...)

So I recently got a Wii. I'm wondering who has one. What do you think of it? What is your favorite game?

What I really like about the system is that you really get involved with it. You really go through the motions of bowling, batting, boxing, so many others.

I'm new to it, so there's many games I haven't tried yet, but it seems like a great game system to have if you have friends over or if you have a party. It gets everyone involved from the young to the old.

I got one last month and it is great. I'm not a big gamer and Wii being interactive makes it a lot of fun. You have to get off the couch and that is a good thing  : ok:

I got one back when they came out. haven really played it a lot though. They really don't have a lot of games that are killer for it still.

I have a Wii and it's a cool thing to have for parties or when you have the in-laws over.  For any so-called "serious" gaming, I use an X-Box or a PC.

I've had my Wii for over a year now, and I like the Mario games.  I'm not really into hard-core gaming, so Mario's about my speed.
