Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Just wondering if there's any actors here at HTGTH.  I'm interested in getting out and giving it a try.  I see here in houston they have open casting calls everyday for television, and theater.  Does anyone have experience with any of this?

Yeasss.  I have been acting on stage since I was about 5.  And I recently was in the top two for "Neighbours" casting... there arent many large-scale things happening in Aus so its kind of hard.  But yeah, meee.  Can you tell -- Drama_qween??

Always loved musical theather, and writting plays, ny sister and her huband have a producxtion comp that do off broadway stuff, here in NYC, Ive lent some music to some projects, and now trying to finalize a play Ive ben writting, probably as long as Axl has been working on CD.lol, but its not about moneyu but makng sure the end result is what i want to give.

That's pretty cool.  I'm going to see what all they have going on at school here for that.  I know people train their whole lives for this stuff, but do you see many people that are new at it often?  I'm sure most are pretty bad doing it for the first time, but maybe it's just something that some people just have.  I really hope I can do something with this. 

My only drawback is that my face gets red easy, which sucks.   Guess I gotta get some help with that first.  Other than that, I think I'm ready to give it a try.

I kicked ass in drama in high school, my one-person show really did wonders for my career and love life.

Hopefully I can make it.  Hollywood's right in my backyard, and I sure would love to be a part of it.

Are you going to casting calls and stuff like that?  Or what are you doing to get parts? Have you tried for tv?

If you sweat easily, lick salt fromyour hand 10 mn before an audition, it'll stop it. Make sure you drink gallons of water afterwards so you don't put your health at risk.

If your face get red easily, use make up ( i know, you're a guy). Buy some powder, a tone lighter than your skin, there are two main base colors for powders, pink and yellow. Ask a beauty pro in any big store like bloomingdales ( or alike in your area).
Use the powder for auditions, good for filmed auditions as it stops the skin from shining.

aye - was professional actress for a few years and amateur for ages - havent done much in the last few months - but hoping to get back to it if my job calms down a bit.  Be a part of as much as you can - experience as much as you can and take opportunities to get used to auditions and castings.  practise speeches and role play in front of friends.  if you can handle it in front of them, then you should be able to cope with strangers.

Some people plunge straight into castings, and some go down the full-on drama school training route - either can work.  Its very useful to video yourself doing a 3 minute piece of something to camera and watch it back and try and be critical.
