Have you ever met anybody from the board (a person you didn't know before you registered here)? No, but I remember that in the concert here in Madrid I was near a person who was wearing a HTGTH t-shirt and looked like foreigner? It was funny, 'cuz we (me and he) where the only two persons in our area that won't go madness when the Axl's delay was announced!

Well...if the shirt was white and they guy wearing it was 191 cms...then I assume it was me. I don't look very spanish you know... ;)

Yeah, don't knock Prince! Also for the record, I was around 10 or 11 before getting into GNR, so that of course affects musical tastes... But respect for the early bloomers, especially for kupirock, listening to Sepultura at 6 years old! :D \m/

what's this survey for actually?

for everybody's curiosity or for yours jarmo, are you going to make some sort of stats out of these q's?

Title: Re: The big HTGTH fan survey discussions / comments thread
Post by: jarmo on September 08, 2006, 01:47:55 PM
It's just for fun because I'm curious.

We've gotten some new members this year thanks to the tours. So it's fun to see where people are coming from (not just in the geographic sense).

I'll probably make some short of conclusion of it at one point.

Well since I'm in the marketing business I do this stuff all the time. I might give it a shot when and IF I have some spare time 'cause it can be pretty time consuming.

Cool thread Jarmo... you made me really think about some answers.  I think I may have found this site when it first opened, but I could be wrong.  I had a 14.4 modem before my super fast 28.8 and I always came here to find links to other pages because i was only 10 and not allowed to talk to people on the internet (the parents worried about that sutff) so I avoided the board feature.

Nothing wrong with having an eclectic music taste that spans genres.  Just means you are open minded to things and that is a good thing!  Good music is not defined by the genre it belongs to.

I loved the fact that when scrolling through that GNR really has a fan base that spans all ages.  That alone says something about their music.  There are the older die hards like me and teens on here that would even rival me on GNR knowledge and I think that's just great that is band is loved by so many!

A stat compilation would be nice though. I don't have that kind of patience but maybe someone else on here does?

judging by gn'r's extremely succsessfull history in south america i don't think theres much of a chance that they leave that part of the world out of the loop...

it's actually pretty funny to read some of the answers.

this one from Supaplex cracked me up good.

If, yes, what's your favorite piece of memorabilia you have in your possession?

a muffler, bought it from two guys outside the arena in budapest this year

Ok, I have to ask since I know a muffler to be a piece of a vehicle.? Does this word have some other type of meaning that I am unaware of?

i don't think so and thats why i thought it was so funny!

i picture thiis guy walking away from a gn'r gig, totaly high after seeing guns, carrying a fuckin rusty dirty ol' muffler under his arm lol

i bet the guy who sold it was pretty happy about the deal aswell he he

 : ok:

isnt' a muffler like a thick scarf?? ???
maybe it was the wrong word but i'm pretty sure the dictionary i searched in to be sure is not wrong
lostrose got the answer right. it's the thing you wear around your neck in winter, and it's not a scarf because it's thicker like lostrose said. but if you have a better word let me know : ok:

Regarding the poster who was surprised by those listeners who listened to "bad" or what now appears to be uncool music prior to G N'R, just to characterise the time and perhaps Guns N' Roses significance: There was no internet nor even alternative. There were bands such as R.E.M and the Cure or Punk bands such as The Misfits and the Circle Jerks, but there wasn't a collective label. CD's actually were still fairly new. I was in middle school and had barely reched the beginning of adolesence when "Appetite" was released. Older groups such as Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones and The Who seemed to be from an earlier generation and had not yet undergone a resurgance. So by the time the "Sweet Child O' Mine" Video was released, it was a breath of fresh air-- something new and authentic and our own. It is this that made groups such as Poison and even Motley Crue appear to be inauthentic. Growing up in the suburbs and small towns-- one would be fortunate to have access to an urban record  store to be more "in the know". To this day I must say I find it convienent to be hip... Regarding what has happened to the band in the interviening years, it is of novel proportions for which the last page has yet to be written...

Have you ever met anybody from the board (a person you didn't know before you registered here)? I saw a guy wearing a HTGTH shirt in the concert, it said at the back, "we know about patience"...was it Jarmo??? I almost went to say hi, but felt inadequate. I was staring at him a lot though

No, I didn't go to the Helsinki shows. :(
