Title: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: Danny Top Hat on September 05, 2006, 08:44:05 AM What is the deal with this nob jockey? Why is he popular? He can't sing, play instruments or write good songs...or can he? He can't dance, that's for sure.
I have friends who like him but they can't explain it to me. I think it's an indie boy thing. People point me to 'Please, please, please, let me, let me, let me get what I want' a lot but that song's pretty tame to me. The only time i've ever enjoyed it is when I heard Muse's version on the hype machine, which rocks ( http://hype.non-standard.net/search/muse,%20let%20me%20get%20what%20i%20want/1/ ) which begs the question: how come Morrissey can't even make his own songs sound good?? :-\ Anyone care to explain? Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: Dr. Blutarsky on September 05, 2006, 02:23:12 PM I like a few songs he did with the Smiths, but never could get into his solo stuff. Seems like something is missing without Johnny Marr.

Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: AdZ on September 05, 2006, 05:26:43 PM The only two I've ever liked are Bigmouth Strikes Again and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.
Morrissey is complete shit. Biggest waste of space the music world's ever had to put up with. Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: Evolution on September 05, 2006, 05:35:37 PM How Soon Is Now? is a quality piece of music IMO.

But i think There Is A Light That Never Goes Out is a classic Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: Booker Floyd on September 05, 2006, 08:19:44 PM What is the deal with this nob jockey? Why is he popular? He can't sing, play instruments or write good songs...or can he? He can't dance, that's for sure. Anyone care to explain? Sure. He has a wholly unique voice and vocal style, clever, literary lyrics and he writes good music. He also has a mysterious persona, (somewhat) ambiguous sexuality and overall interesting image. As for the "indie boy" theory, Morrissey has been popular in some sense since the early 80s, before this perceived "indie boy" complex developed, Im sure. I can recommend many Smiths songs to you, but I cant see why it would matter. Youve already concluded that you dont like anything about Morrissey, so why bother? Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Love the last two records. Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: Carlos_f_Rose on September 05, 2006, 11:25:45 PM I like morrissey he s got some very good songs...

Youve already concluded that you dont like anything about Morrissey, so why bother?? Well I wouldn't have asked if I that was the case. Everything i've heard from him sucks but i'm still curious to understand the appeal. All popular music has an appeal otherwise people wouldn't be so crazy about it. There are exceptions to be found in pop music but you know what I mean. Title: Re: Morrissey - discuss here! Post by: Aava on September 06, 2006, 03:40:42 PM Morrissey is boring. Some of his lyrics are ok, but it?s nothing but backround music really.
Though I love the Smiths song Girlfriend in the Coma. |
