The perfect date for CD release is the tue of the week of black friday, the biggest shopping day of the year

The album is coming out. Any negativity from this point on is only for the sake of people being negative. People will probably bitch and moan that he didnt give an exact date. Of course he's not gonna give an exact date. That would increase the chances of it leaking sooner.

Lets hope that by the time the real tour comes around we'll have a release date and possibly a single. ?I'm glad to see that they won't be playing a full tour til then because it'll give axl if its necessary time to put the finishing touches on things.

And besides, who says there's a definate date set in stone right now?
The confirmation that they're still aiming for this year is pretty damn exciting by itself.
I won't be surprised if we have a release date in two to three weeks time, if the label really has begun prepping for it as was rumored this week.

Agreed. Nothing dissapointing about tonight. The man was there to introduce a band, he did it well, and he also gave us yet another assurance that Chinese Democracy will be out this year. It all sounds good to me. Also, why is October 24th the start of the tour? They are playing nine shows before that day. Perhaps a single is scheduled to be released after the first nine shows and the official Chinese Democracy tour after that? Baseless speculation I know, but is it a little odd to anyone else that there are (essentially) nine warm up shows scheduled over a month before the tour is supposed to kick off?

Yeah, I don't get it. ?GNR goes on tour. ?People complain about the setlist. ?Axl makes an appearance on MTV and people moan cause they didn't see what they wanted. ?Do people even realize that they are lucky Axl even left the house... ?I'm shocked and pleased Axl showed up to begin with.

As much of an optimist as I want to be, and as close as we are (more so than ever), I fear getting my hopes up too much will just result in disappointment. I've gone through this before - first in 1999 (when there were rumors), then in 2002 when they went on a Chinese Democracy tour, then in 2004 with the Greatest Hits and more rumors of legal issues bringing the album out...

I will have faith and look forward to the album's release but at the same time I'm going to remain a bit skeptical.

This is really actually positive. At this point, if it wasn't this year, I think he'd just be saying "sometime soon", etc. I'm feeling really good about it...

I don't find it odd, given that those shows are mostly all in cali. It means that, for that month, the band remains together and in practice while still within driving distance of mixing studios, label reps, etc.

Still, that's a lot of warmup shows. Four (not counting the accoustic set) before the Euro tour and nine before the US tour. Aren't one or two of the places semi-big? Like 15,000 or something? And Inland Invasion is gonna be big too I assume. Sorry, I'm just speculating and getting my hopes up. Anyway, I am grateful for the warmup shows scheduled (though I won't be attending) as they could be our last chance to hear some of the old songs. I can't wait for the new ones as the tour develops!

Understood, but it might have something to do with the set list or the release of some new material which truly  makes it a Chinese Democracy tour. Something will happen when that transition occurs...a single, an album...I would guess.

That's what I'm thinking too. It ties in with what Axl said on KROQ about new songs being added as the tour progresses. Perhaps the date he mentioned tonight is when the new songs will start making their way into the set. Probably on account of a single/album as you suggested. Regardless, good times to be a GNR fan. ;D

I feel this definitely. I really don't think Axl would put himself out like he did, unless its really coming this year. He's never put himself out like that...in regards to this project. Its going to be so fucking weird when it actually comes. Closure is not something we often get with something we are so emotionally invested in like we are with GNR's new album. I think our range of emotions will be so out of whack when we actually have it, that Im not how I will deal. Obviously first and foremost I will party and rock the fuck out to it. But I may just as easily break down. It might just take me to places...Im not prepared for.

May sound odd, but this will be a very spiritual truth.  Man... it might actually be coming this year. That is fucking deep for me. 

gnr are playing big arenas before october 24th. so they can't be warm ups. do you think they will stop playing shows for 2 weeks because in that time CD will come out and they'll continue touring with CD?

They could be playing the first gig on the surface of the moon and still call it a warm up. Assuming that they're going to be touring large venues, doesn't it make sense to play a few large warm up shows for technical reasons?

I am a fan whether Chinese Democracy gets released or not.  As long as Axl is performing, I'm happy.  Axl is the greatest singer alive today.  Chinese Democracy released this Fall, this year, next year, doesn't matter to me.

plus Bumble has said he wont be on it b/c he didnt join the band in time...that makes me think theyre probably done with whetever is going to be on it.

and the one month gap between the CA dates and what Axl calls the 'real' tour makes me think they might be rolling out promotion then...i mean its not like the guys need another month to rest after having a month off in august.

i've been thinking about his alot lately, and the analogy i was thinking of was xmas morning. the excitment  leading up to xmas is in some ways better than xmas itself.

D - your analogy might be better. you spend all 4 years hating high school and looking forward to getting out. then you realize you just had some really great times.

a big part of why i come here is i love gnr. but i love other bands and i never visit their sites.

the TRUE reason i come here is cause gnr are not your typical band - info is scarce AND there's CD which has been hanging out there for years.

if gnr tours and released the album, they become just like every other band. AND there's nothing to look forward to anymore.

Its going to be straight out strange to be discussing song titles/lyrics, packaging, what people were saying that bought it/aren't buying it.

I can't even begin to imagine what that will be like. New songs, new songs live in concert, extensive (hopefully) liner notes...fuckin' incredible! There were a few people that were bummed after last night, but I couldn't be more excited now!

The liner notes thing stuck out to me. When you think about it, the notes on the UYI records kinda suck. It's pretty much the lyrics and some pictures here and there. It'd be cool if CD has a better set of liner notes.

The liner notes on UYI were great. It said who played what on each song. What more can you ask for? :nervous:

I was just thinking - there's been a lot of debate about what the September tour is a warm-up for, why these dates are separate and why the band needs a warm up right after the European tour.

My theory is, that the album will be out on or around October 24th. The break between this and the September dates could very well be for promotion - interviews, talk show appearances etc. This would make the September dates a warmup for the official Chinese Democracy tour.

Just an idea. What does anyone else think?

Mysteron is the only reason I'm doubting the October 24 idea.

In a radio interview he did say the shows in LV and SF were tho. and that they were playing ~7ish new songs during the tour. and There wouldn't be much intervals between the tours.

Maybe the plan has changed and the tour from October will be totally different than the previous ones?

I never said Axl has anything against MTV. Why don't you take a closer look at GNRhistory and you'll find that Axl doesn't really have a high opinion of John Norris. There has always been a bit of tension between the two. It's ok if you don't see it, it was so subtle....
