Title: Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Post by: Hammy on May 16, 2007, 09:57:56 AM Bought Highway Companion today.? The album is smooth with a capital SMOOTH.? :D Seriously though it is really good, such a chilled out listen, so relaxing.? True it's not going to blow minds and blast him to the top of the charts but it's not about that, it's about putting out a good quality album.? Flirting With Time & Night Driver are my favourite tracks but they are all fairly decent, perfect listening for a long car journey or when your chilling in the sun, definately, smooth ;)

New Version of Legend's Third Solo Album Is Packaged as Leatherette-Bound Book and Features Four Bonus Tracks Burbank, CA ? A special edition of Tom Petty's Highway Companion, the third recording in a trilogy of solo albums that includes Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers, will be released by Warner Bros. Records on June 5th. Long celebrated as a major American voice, Petty has used his solo work as a vehicle for his most personal songwriting. Highway Companion, described by The Washington Post as "his best disc in years," takes the striking intimacy of his earlier solo efforts to even greater heights. The new version of Highway Companion, targeted to retail outlets around Father's Day, will be a leatherette-bound book that includes two postcards and four previously unreleased bonus tracks: two songs, "Home" and "Around the Roses," previously recorded for Highway Companion and Petty's personal demo versions of Highway Companion tracks "Big Weekend" and "This Old Town." The release of the special edition coincides with the reissues on June 12 of the two studio albums from all-star band the Traveling Wilburys, of which Petty was a member along with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. Traveling Wilburys Volume 1 and Traveling Wilburys Volume 3 will be available together in one package with bonus tracks and a DVD of rare footage, as a deluxe linen-bound edition, a vinyl set and a digital bundle. Originally released on July 25th, 2006, Highway Companion debuted at Number 4 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, selling 112,000 copies its first week. It was produced by Jeff Lynne, who also produced Petty's beloved 1989 multi-platinum solo album, Full Moon Fever and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 1991 album Into the Great Wide Open. The spare, lyrically introspective Highway Companion was described by The Detroit Free Press as "an album of subtle treasures", , Rolling Stone, recognizing the raw emotional strength of Highway Companion, declared it "a classic." Highway Companion was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Rock Album," while its first single, "Saving Grace," was nominated for "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance." Those honors were Petty's 17th and 18th Grammy nods in an illustrious career that has seen the Florida-born singer-songwriter sell more than 50 million albums over the past 30 years. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. The track-listing for the special edition of Highway Companion is as follows: "Saving Grace" "Square One" "Flirting With Time" "Down South" "Jack" "Turn This Car Around" "Big Weekend" "Night Driver" "Damaged By Love" "This Old Town" "Ankle Deep" "The Golden Rose" "Home" "Around the Roses" "Big Weekend" (demo version) "This Old Town" (demo version) Title: Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Post by: Jackamo! on May 16, 2007, 09:43:53 PM Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Greatest Hits is one of my favorite compliations.

Title: Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Post by: Malcolm on March 21, 2008, 11:28:02 AM Tom Petty's Mudcrutch tours behind debut album
Mudcrutch, featuring Tom Petty and two members of The Heartbreakers, hits the road in April behind the band's first ever full-length album. The group--which features Petty, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and original Mudcrutch members Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh--kicks off the run April 12 in Malibu, CA, as part of a benefit bill for The Midnight Mission homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles. The band has lined up 11 dates, all of them in California. The full schedule is below. Pre-sale tickets are available beginning tomorrow (3/21) for members of the Highway Companion Club, Petty's online fan club. Check the club's website for more information. Mudcrutch is picking up where it left off more than 30 years ago, when Petty and guitarist Tom Leadon formed a new act in 1970 following their exit from another band, The Epics. Guitarist Campbell and drummer Marsh joined soon after, and keyboardist Tench signed on in 1973. Mudcrutch released a pair of singles in 1973 and 1975, respectively, but never recorded a full album. Last August, according to an article in Nashville's Tennessean newspaper, Petty provided the impetus for the band to reunite and head back into the recording studio. "It was just entirely unexpected," Leadon, now a Nashville-based guitar instructor, told the paper. "It was like a dream, the whole thing. Tom couldn't have been nicer. It was great to hang out with him again." The group's self-titled debut, containing 14 tracks, will hit stores April 29. April 2008 12 - Malibu, CA - Malibu Performing Arts Center 14 - Santa Cruz, CA - Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium 16, 17 - San Francisco, CA - Fillmore 19- Santa Barbara, CA - Arlington Theatre 20- Venture, CA - Ventura Theater 22- Alpine, CA - Concerts in The Park 25, 26, 28, 29- West Hollywood, CA - Troubadour Title: Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Post by: Thorned Rose on May 15, 2008, 01:59:22 PM not sure if anyone cares... but the new Mudcrutch cd is great.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have unveiled a lengthy US arena tour as the classic rockers anticipate the forthcoming release of "Mojo," their first studio effort in eight years. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will kick off the extensive run May 6 in Raleigh, NC, followed by concerts in 36 cities throughout North America. The outing currently concludes with an Aug. 27 performance in Saratoga Springs, NY. The full itinerary is listed at right. Special guests Joe Cocker, Drive-By Truckers, My Morning Jacket and Crosby, Stills and Nash will divvy up opening duties for the tour. Ticket pre-sales for several shows begin March 3 via Live Nation. The new road trip coincides with the expected spring release of "Mojo," the band's long-awaited studio set, which still has no confirmed drop date. Fans who purchase concert tickets online will receive an MP3 download of every track on the forthcoming album, according to a press release. Two tracks--"First Flash of Freedom" and "Good Enough"--will be available for immediate download, and fans can access the remainder of the songs on the album's physical release date. Online ticket purchases will also come with a handful of live tracks recorded during the 2010 tour, which will be delivered later in the year.
