..this thread just might be useless, but like i said at the start *just a thought*  :peace:

During the making/creation of Chinese Democracy, back in 2002 Axl hit the stage in Rio and commented on various things and made a suggestion that various powers had tried to stop him from being there (or words to that effect). Obviously no one knows (except those in the know) what goes on behind the scenes in the Gn'R camp, but over the past years things have cropped that appear to be forms of stumbling blacks thrown in the direction of Gn'R.

I can't remember the exact order of events but..

1.The Hollywood Rose album appeared. Didn't Axl attempt to get it blocked? if so, that would have detracted his thoughts away from getting on with creating CD

2.Some web site showed up cliaming to have really old Gn'R recordings with plans of releaseing a cd. The site vanished and no more was heard. Again, did Axl have to stop CD and get involved in legal action.

3.Geffen pisses Axl off by releasing Guns n'Roses greatest hits. Didn't Axl attempt to block that too?

4.Slash said during an interview he had heard CD was due out in March 2006. CD never appeared. Who is to know, maybe it was going to appear in March, maybe just to show Slash how little he knows, Axl decided on a different release date just for the sake of it.

5.The latest news is that there is to be an album called Butchering The Beatles. Whats that about? Catcher in the Rye has tones of the Beatles about it. Making a rock album featurung Duff McKagan called Butchering The Beatles sounds like another behind the scenes joke.

Maybe all this is just coencidence  :)

WTF, all those "points" have either nothing to do with anyone in GNR (people outisde of the band releasing albums for their own reasons) or someone who hasnt talked to Axl in 10 years hearing that CD was due.

Keep this in mind. It is not as complicated as you may think.

How about this....

Axl never releases the album. However, he slowly releases new songs into the concert sets.
-This way...nobody can claim the album failed due to poor sales.

-Fans get their new music.( My Ipod already has enough new material for side 1

I think the only thing stopping the release is Axl's fear of it bombing commercially. If that happens I think we can forget the second and third albums.

The issues you mentioned should be handled by Axl's lwayers.

Butchering the Beatles is a tribute and should have jackshit to do with CD being released. Pretty good tracklisting and Duff is involved too:

we know it has nothing to do with Gn'R and Gn'R has no involvement in "Butchering the Beatles". It just seems bizarre or simply a coencidence that a bunch of old rockers want to have a get together and cover beatle songs only months after the leak of Catcher in the Rye, which many have said (including myself) to have overtones of the beatles about it  :)

Well they do. Axl got involved with blocking the Great Hits from being released, and while being involved with that action this would have had a knock on effect on Axl of not being able to work on CD as much as he would have liked to have done (less time, less motivation maybe) thus causing more delays  :peace:

Out if interest i will download Butchering the Beatles if only to check it out  :)
I just hope Axl don't get to hear it (BtB) and maybe decided to drop Catcher in the Rye from CD only to delay CD some more while they (Ax and the band) decide alternative track could replace Catcher on CD.

Then again, maybe Butchering the Beatles will sound shite and leave Axl laughing his socks off  :hihi:

I wouldn't worry too much about this Beatles thing. First off all, Catcher In The Rye might be about John Lennon but I've been listening to the Beatles for years and I nothing in CITR reminds me of them. Duff's involvement in one song on this tribute album makes no difference.

That sounds like a really good tribute album, I may just check it out... Interseting that nobody is doing Strawberry Fields or A Day In The Life.


But this really could never delay Chinese Democracy.  Almost every Oasis record has borderline plagarism of the Beatle's material, and how many tribute albums have been released while they've been around?

That wasn't really point, my point was more along the lines of: Axl was at that time putting his efforts into working on Chinese Democracy, engaged in creative thoughts of taking his band in a new direction and possibly making a new sound. Then out of the blue, up pops Geffen with aims of releasing a Gn'R Greatest Hits album and in doing so would refresh joe public's mind with the sound of the 90's sounding Gn'R. Nothing wrong with that, except Axl didn't want that to happen (for what ever reason except the obvious). Having to compose emails to lawyers, wait for replies takes time and could have caused (creative) distractions. There's nothing worse than trying to be creative only to have *other stuff* burning away in the back of your mind.

Oh for god's sake, he's kept himself locked away for ten years. I don't think he' had enough going on in the back of his mind to be honest. You want something pissing him off, emotions breed creativity. Given the length of time he has been working on CD, the short time wasted on the greatest hits is insignificant. Catcher in the Rye and Butchering being released the same year isn't even a coincidence. They're totally unconnected. In your original post you quoted Axl as saying people have done everything possible to stop him progressing. So what, you think all them boys came together to record a Beatles cover album to piss off Axl and delay CD? Your being rediculous. This isn't the first beatles cover album you know. There is probably one released every year. It just so happens that Duff plays on this one. Big deal. Catcher In The Rye is not a beatles cover version, it's about John Lennon's death. There isn't even a vague connection between CITR and BTB,
