That venue is out near Sea World, I thought they would have it closer to the heart of town. Venue at the University of San Diego would have been better as far as gatherings before and after the party.

I wonder how many other dates are getting ready to be announced? ?If you have an Entercom station in your area, be alert! ? ;)

Arena holds between 8900 and 14000 for arena concerts.

It is one of the best places to see a concert!  Many legendary nights there, not to mention this arena was featured in Almost Famous!

Really? I think I am going to try and go to this one as well. I wonder when tickets go on sale.

Fuck! Just realized this is like a tuesday. Any of you know what the SEMA show is understands how psychotic that is for the automotive industry. Taking off before then when you work for a magazine that does a couple issues dedicated to the SEMA alone is really very bad.

I saw Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith there and thought it holds close to 20,000. It is huge, if your not on the floor or in the first 20 rows up, forget it.

Cox Arena at San Diego State University is the best arena in San Diego

There were probably 14,000 + at the arena the night you went to see Aerosmith and Kravitz.

"between 8,900 and 14,800 for arena concerts"

From Wiki... I'd say that's a good size'd venue for the band. 20,000 would be pushing it but 8-14 sure.

Incidentally, I'll see RHCP tonite there, so I'll take another careful look. Although, their show has been sold out 2 months ago and I expect more people than even at the Aerosmith show.

Yes San Diego...Oct. 3rd...I will be in Vegas on 9/16 and at this one for sure...iPayOne Center is the Sports Arena, Guns played thier years back...but I fucking hate this venue, it's a shithole compared to any of the new venues, it needs to be leveled and have something modern built in it's place but this city is broke...

I would imagine, late this week, or next week is when they will announce possible dates in LA, and Phoenix to go with the San Diego date, all to be on sale 9/2.

Alright, just got back from a RHCP show at Sports Arena (iPayOne) in San Diego. Here's some info that might be useful to some.
The show was sold out completely (even alot of seats behind the stage), so I think there were close to 15,000 people. It is not of the biggest arenas (like Staples center) but it is still pretty good size.
The Floor - .......frickin' chairs planted everywhere. And there was a huge distance between rows. We were in the 18th row on the floor and it felt like 40th.
NO AIR-CONDITIONING - yes, beleive it or not. We started sweating 15 minutes after getting there. Even Anthony started complaining 2 songs into the show. Wear light clothes, and bring a towel and a water bottle if you can.
The parking lot - DO NOT park in the main parking lot......BIG MISTAKE.....Not only is it $15 but there was nobody to direct traffic after the show and a big mess happened. Took an hour to get out of a medium size parking lot. Better park in the overflow parking outside on the street for just $10. Or park in the neighbourhood streets for free if you find space.
Security is incredibly loose. Use this to film a DVD and stuff. They let people in cameras no problem.
The venue is easily accessible from I-5 and I-8.
It is not the best place to have GN'R perform but I guess we can adjust to it.
In any case, next time GN'R management books a venue in San Diego tehy'll be much better off with Cox Arena, where: 1) there are no chairs on the floor 2) there is air conditioning 3) parking is better organized and it's FREE.

I agree in some points, but you make it sound like if its the worst arena in the world. I have been there to a couple of sold out concerts and i dont remember about feeling the heat or needing water. As a matter of fact, i recommend the in arena - parking.

BTW: the chairs can be removed, this was done in RHCP tour manager request probably.

I just heard that on 91X. On the other hand, the website still says Oct 3rd.
They are already giving away tickets for the front row. But in the lamest and most difficult way. They have listeners call in and the first three get to compete for a pair of tix by singing along Sweet Child. Idiots.

Title: Re: San Diego - October 5th
Post by: leatherebel on August 23, 2006, 02:53:44 PM
Well, it's not that easy. They only seem to give away a pair of tix a day. The way it was done today, they announced when to call to win the tix. Maybe a 100 people called in but only the first three got to compete and embarrass themselves on air. And at the end only one one.

BTW, I am absolutely sure they said at least 5 times the show is Oct 5th.

Tickets have not gone on sale yet for this show.  BTW, most shows, put on by professional promoters, have ticket give-aways!!  It's called "promotion!"
