Title: San Francisco warm-up Post by: phi_kai_phi on August 21, 2006, 06:35:19 PM So after reading "The tour, which started May 25th in Madrid, Spain, played to 700,000 plus people over 32 shows in 18 countries, making it one of the biggest tours of the year on the continent and in the UK." about Europe...
Why is GNR going to play at the Warfield? I read online that it only has 2000 person capacity. http://www.bgspecialevents.com/Warfield.htm Why play to only few thousand? Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: MR.BROWNSTONE on August 21, 2006, 06:38:40 PM Why play to only few thousand? They are using it as one of the warm up shows for the us tour. Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: GNRSANDMAN on August 21, 2006, 06:47:47 PM Warm up from the warm up euro tour.......... : ok:
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: jarmo on August 21, 2006, 06:49:14 PM Because it's a really cool thing to see this band in a small venue.
You'll have plenty of chances to see them in an arena, but it's something else to see them play a club/theatre. /jarmo Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: Wicked Demon on August 21, 2006, 06:50:16 PM ...now if only they would do an acoustic show at Bottom of the Hill (capacity=275)... and, uh, invite me...
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: PrettyTiedUp763 on August 21, 2006, 07:12:26 PM Yep. it's just a warmup. Plus, lots of fans like the small club vibe anyway.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: bigbri on August 21, 2006, 10:25:23 PM Well, the Warfield is pretty legendary, so maybe they just want to play it for the hell of it. And it makes sense to treat the small shows as a warm-up.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: veritas55 on August 22, 2006, 10:07:07 AM same place that they played to warm up for the UYI shows --- and capacity with a GA floor is closer to 2500.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: jaypayton on August 22, 2006, 10:21:41 AM the warfield is legendary...bands like Metallica, Faith No More, the Chili Peppers have played there when they were unknown and then after they got famous...GNR played there in 1991 as a warmup gig and GNR played there in 1988 also.......
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: jesuswithamullet on August 22, 2006, 11:01:13 AM Nine Inch Nails kicked off their warmup tour there last year. It's my favorite venue in San Francisco. I do feel for people who can't get in to this show since there aren't any other bay area shows scheduled (yet) but I think if you look in the right places, plenty of face value tickets can be found.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: Gaymo, the Hobbit on August 22, 2006, 11:26:23 AM they also played a warm up gig in 91 there..
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: SINSHINE on August 22, 2006, 01:54:55 PM I think it's interesting that Axl referred to the San Fran dates as a 'warm up' when they are just coming off of a huge European tour. Makes you wonder...why would they NEED to warm up after only a month off.
With more and more California dates announced, do you think this U.S. tour will be just a leg off the tour started over in Europe (technically N.Y., but you know what I mean) and will basically be the same, setlist-wise? - OR - Do you think this U.S. tour will be the beginning of a proper Chinese Democracy tour and these San Fran 'warm ups' are being used to introduce more new music to the set and possibly a different stage setup? I'd like to believe the latter, but I don't see the full blown Chinese Democracy tour being launched without 'official announcements', a single release and/or a release date for the album. Still, the idea that they are incorporating a 'warm up' really makes me think that more new songs will be introduced. Perhaps this next U.S. tour will be more like the 'Get in the Ring' tour and will be followed next year by a full blown and official CD tour. Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: slash666 on August 22, 2006, 01:58:39 PM the San Francisco dates are warm up for KROQ Inland Invasion
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: codenameninja on August 22, 2006, 02:05:47 PM .a warm up for the California dates. ;D
Each new show is a warm up for the next. Axl needs to keep on moving so as not to seize up :hihi: Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: Kujo on August 22, 2006, 02:09:02 PM I would think its to break out some different, not necessarily new, songs and get used to playing them live. However I stopped trying to figure out what was going on with this band along time ago.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: jarmo on August 22, 2006, 02:30:05 PM They also played a warm-up for the Download Festival by playing at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: deep pocketz on August 22, 2006, 10:42:52 PM good point, i guess we wont know until the set list posts start coming in during the concert. I'm gonna go out on a limb and still say WTTJ is first.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: TOPGUNner on August 23, 2006, 08:51:39 AM Too many warmups lol. Enough is enough, get on with the full blown tour.
Although I will say this, I've never seen GNR at an arena, I've only seen them at the warmup gigs at hammerstein ballroom, but I doubt anything will compare to being up against the baracade and singing face to face with Axl and playing Ron Thal's guitar at the end of Paradise City. So in that respect, the warm up shows are quite intimate and a great place for hardcore GNR fans who don't have to compete with the beggars and hangers on. Just don't see them as warm up shows, see them as an opportunity to see this band play a small venue. With the pre-sales, a lot of fans got to see the band at these small venues. Which is very cool. : ok: /jarmo Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: Crashdiet on August 24, 2006, 07:21:14 PM After seeing the hammerstein shows I don't think i'll ever go out of my way to see gnr in an arena again. Unless they are playing in whatever city I happen to be living in at the time I will never fly anywhere to see them in an arena.... but small clubs (2000-4000) now thats a totally different story.
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: phi_kai_phi on August 28, 2006, 03:17:16 PM Wow. This is great.
I never thought I'd have the opportunity to see them play live, and now I get to see them play close to me in a small venue. (I was so scared when I missed the presale and ticketmaster didn't have any tickets right at 10:00am sunday) Awesome. I didn't think it'd be a "warm-up" because of the European tour, but whatever the reason I won't complain. Some fans get lucky off of Axl's perfectionist personality I presume. Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on August 28, 2006, 04:59:01 PM Once you see them in a club, you will never want to see them in a areana again
Title: Re: San Francisco warm-up Post by: DEAD HORSE on September 10, 2006, 05:04:33 PM I'll be there!!! september 20th!!!
