Title: Guns in Roses facing a SERIOUS challange.....trust Post by: NoManZero on August 15, 2006, 03:39:39 PM This certainly is not going to be the typical post, in fact it is going to turn out to be quite serious and not typical of what one normally see here.
What this concerns is the supposed title of the new album, "Chinese Democracy" and also the lyrics to that song of the same name. It turns out that in fact, there truly is a very serious Chinese Democracy movement with Chinese dissedents doing much to make that name more than that but in fact a reality. And that is because of the fact that the Chinese Communist Party and it's actions have caused more death from executions and starvation than any war in history. We are talking over 50 million people have died in China since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)? took power in 1945. Now in fact there is a band that has gotten very involved in trying to end this brutal regime. This band has played at huge Chinese Democracy/Freedom rallies attended by thousands on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial doing hard rock/meta anthems against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). These shows saw Sterling Campbell who is David Bowie's drummer on drums. This same band is banned in China and visiting the website of this band is against the law over there. This band also had a video made by New Tang Dynasty Television of it's song, "Bye Bye CCP" which basically tells the brutal government to step down. This video features brutal footage of Chinese citizens being beat up by Chinese police and shows terrible things buts end with hope. The lyrics are in fact quite clear and confrontational ...... this video can be seen for free on web and has been by thousands and thousands of viewers. It was also broadcast into China by New Tang Dynasty TV via satillite over the objections of the government there. It is at the link ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?http://www.nomanzero.com/Bye%20Bye%20CCP%20video.htm Paste into your browser and you will without a doubt be in a sort of shock. There has never, ever been a video like it before. This same band performed this song with 20 yards of the Chinese Communist Embassy in Washington DC on the 18 anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre which probably did not make those in the Embassy very happy but the band did it anyway at high volume through over 2000 watts of power! THe lyrics are below in both Chinese and English. Now here is the challange to Guns and Roses. The lyrics to that song, "Chinese Democracy" hint at disatisfaction with the regime in China but is not so easy to tell. Our thoughts are, why be so implied or say things like "it doesn't matter" in the lyrics. It matters a lot. We have friends who have been brutally beaten and lived to tell us. We know of plenty of others that didn't live to tell about it. And there are other things that could be mentioned that I will spare you. Will this post be censored ? I sure hope not. That would be a very wierd thing on a GnR page if you ask me. I am the guitarist in this band that is called NoManZero? (www.NoManZero.com and my MySpace page is at www.MySpace.com/NoManZero ). I co-wrote the song "Bye Bye CCP" (Chinese Communist Party) and played the shows I describe above. We talked about this and feel that GnR should be challanged on the issue of Chinese Demcracy. We know people in the Chinese Democracy party who just met in NYC while in exile from China..... Come GnR, say it for real........your lyrics to song are too hard to understand. Our lyrics as seen belwo are straight and to the point. Are you afraid of the government's reaction over there.? Fight for Freedom !!! to earn the right to the name "Chinese Democracy" !! Title: Re: Guns in Roses facing a SERIOUS challange.....trust Post by: thegreg1 on August 15, 2006, 04:00:00 PM I highly doubt that Axl Rose & company give a crap about what the Chinese government thinks of their little band. Most writers fashion their lyrics to be taken in different ways anyway.
BTW...Don't you state that you can't understand the lyrics in "Chinese democracy"? So how can you critique the message? Title: Re: Guns in Roses facing a SERIOUS challange.....trust Post by: killingvector on August 15, 2006, 04:26:39 PM There is a recording somewhere of the Jonestown massacre in which Jim Jones and his circle hand out glasses of cyanide laced kool aid to hundreds of followings. A low, melodic drone music is heard in the background.

If your art is simply a vehicle for a political agenda, what aesthetic value does it have? The lyrics you printed above seem to say, "not much." It's nice that you are concerned about politics in China, but coming out and saying so in such a direct way is not good writing - it does label you as "b grade punk." You will convince more people to feel sympathetic to your cause by using metaphors that they can relate, rather than stating random facts and opinions.
I can't believe I responded to this seriously. Title: Re: Guns in Roses facing a SERIOUS challange.....trust Post by: Will on August 16, 2006, 10:08:13 AM Nothing but promotion taking advantage of GN'R and the name of their forthcoming album.
