Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Why aren't tickets on sale, with less than a month and a half to the show?  Is KROQ going to announce this with a new single?  Are they finalizing the line-up?  Are they trying to renegotiate GNR's take of the gate?  So many questions?  I would imagine, we hear something very soon, or I would surmise that there are problems getting this thing put together.  How far in advance of the show, did tickets go on sale last year?

Its kind of funny that when you go to the "concert section" at KROQ.com every concert has tickets on sale, details, or atleast a date when they will go on sale, but the only one that says "details coming soon" is GNR.  ::) They even have details for concerts in November.. Pshhh

Velvet Revolver played this show a few years ago and I watched the stream online.

They've played the Weenie Roast and Almost Accoustic Christmas, not sure about Inland..

Last year Inland didn't have ticket sales until August 20th.. so I think were ok. It's August 8th right now.. so lets see how much longer we have to wait.

Man, I hope they come out and play the same setlist they've played over and over and over and over again.

I think the show calls for more appetite    ;D

For the love of God, please release CD and rehearse some illusion material so we can get past this lame setlist.

I"m expecting a virtually Illusion free setlist at this gig, not the right audience for that material.
I'm not sure rolling out the piano for this crowd is a good idea either..

given the umm..salty language axl and alot of those other bands use, i question whether they would broadcast the whole show on radio...don't want to ruffle the FCC...hopefully a webcast though!

Like Axl gives a fuck. The piano will definetly be rolled out once for November Rain, but probably another time for The Blues too.

Didn't he pull it out at those festivals in Europe where GN'R's piano didnt really fit in with the other bands that played there. I'm sure he could care less.

I think that anyone who leaves during "November Rain" is definitely missing out on a classic that is powerful live.  Their loss.

It was definitely a highlight for me at Hammerstein, I just stood there transfixed. Something akin to rapture  :)

I cant wait to see how they play in large venue...if it will compare to seeing them in a small setting.

I didn't even leave through Chk Chk Chk (!!!) when they opened for the Chili's and they were aubismal.

Do you know what kind of festivals they played over here in Europe?

The Download Festival in the UK (Cradle Of Filth was playing that day), Gods Of Metal in Italy, Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium as well as Roskilde Festival in Denmark among others.

They didn't change the setlist too much at those. I don't think GN'R gives a damn about the "masses". They play what they feel like playing and if that means singing some James Brown (see Rock In Rio 2006 setlist), they'll do it.

This in my estimation is the absolute most important gig this band will play to date, it sets the tone and perception from this point forward in the US.  I think it's in their best interest to come out slugging and play a fast paced, blistering set.  Leave the multiple solos and the grand piano for another day. 

But that would create the wrong perception no matter how "cool" it is.  I agree they could tighten up the setlist a bit, but they should not be afraid of playing piano-driven songs just because some snots will sneer at them  >:(

I agree that the long guitar solos need to go.  Maybe they shouldn't play "The Blues", but if they don't play "November Rain", a lot of people who went to the festival at least in part to see GN'R will be disappointed.

Yea I see it now, I looked at list earlier but alls my eyes read was inland invasion, i did not see the Guns n roses part earlier. I'm still concerned that they removed it from logo and also statement. Not worried just concerned.

Yeah this is a pretty important show.  This sets the tone for the entire US tour.  Reviewers will put reviews of this in magazines, and word of mouth will cause everyone to know how GNR did at this show and depending on how good they are the people will buy tickets to other shows/won't.

This is just another festival show and I will bet you good money that the setlist will be 90-95% identical to what was played in Europe. ?Don't set yourself up to be disapooitned. ?It will be a great show, you will have a great time, and there will be plenty of long solos and a piano.

Many reviews have already been written so it's not like GN'R can "win" by changing the setlist.

It's sponsored by the most recognized rock radio station in the US, a station that's barely even acknowledged GNR in any form at anytime that's now reached out to the band, a station that had been (until Indie 103.1 came along) thought of as the leading source for new music in the US for the past 15 years.

Beyond the above, it's GNR's entree' back in the US musical train of thought and chance to reach
fanbase that's not exactly been GNR friendly.

So what though?

It's a festival. They're only reaching out for this event. It's hard to formulate the perfect way of reaching out to a band such as GNR who have been largely inactive for the past 15 years.

I could be wrong, but I think people are making too big a deal about this. Sure it's the first show, but it's a major festival that encompasses tons of bands. In Europe it's a little different as media tend to focus on the headliner, recently GNR since they hadn't been back in a couple years. But, they've already played their first shows (Hammerstein) in the US and got positive reviews. I think that takes the pressure off and magazines and newspapers aren't going to keep the continual focus on GNR at this particular festival.
Now, when they go on tour after this, yes, there will be a strong focus and they will be held under the microscope and rightly so after the aborted disaster of the 2002 tour.

Half the crowd left about 3 songs in, it seemed more like a publicity stunt on KROQ's part to capitalize on The Crue's return.

It was borderline sad.

It's a start though, and a positive one at that.?

It's basically the hot chick asking you to the first dance of the year, a dance you've never been invited to before.

It sets a tone for perception.

Couple this with a new single and away they go.

The logo is gone on the front, but if you look under kroq concerts it still says inland invasion featuring or with Guns N' Roses.  I don't think it is anything to worry about.

i was at the show, and they played for 45 minutes or so as planned

motley crue headlined the weenie roast not inland.
but RHCP headlined weenie roast this year and they played 15 songs.

THE most recognized???  Shit...no one outside of LA has ever heard of it...unless of course we wanna go see gnr....it's not that huge of a deal outside of LA....and theres many LA stations that have more credibility of a "rock" station than KROQ

Falcon, they played the demo for Jungle first.  And, funny to say it, that's the only "classic" song they ever play.

I don't listen to KROQ in my car, maybe if I'm with my cousin.  KLOS is where it's at.  Too bad they don't endorse Guns, but they've been plugging the Iron Maiden and Rolling Stones concerts for L.A.

And I would have never heard of Inland Invasion....Weenie Roast I've heard of, and Acoustic Christmas, but not Inland.  Go figure.  :(

I doubt that there will be any setlist change for this show , at all, I still want to go, but I posted earlier on this, it will basically be an extention of the euro shows, since GNR have not played the west coast at all fro a very long time. So they deservr to see this set as well IMO.

Yep, they sure did.? If I remember correctly it was debuted back in '86 at some point.

As the type of things go, I expect KROQ will up the frequency of GNR tunes as the event draws closer, I can't see them spinning November Rain?but it's safe to say they may put SCOM and/or PC in the rotation.?

Inland's definitely 3rd on the totem pole as far as KROQ sponsored events go behind the 2 you mentioned above, all seem to have taken a backseat to Coachella at this point.

That had me worried yesterday for some time, but I have been checking it daily and they keep changing the wording. They changed it again today. SO hopefully means nothing.

kroq is huge!!! ticket info will be anounced this monday. they are playing guns in the commercial. kroq is owned by the same people who own cbs, mtv, disney. so i would say kroq is very big. you may not like the station but they are big. ( besides they flew me to austria to see the nova rock festival ).

Cuz they're gonna confirm GNR being on the bill (a relief cuz it spooked me a littlet when they removed the GNR logo from the website).  And they might just have a little snippet of news for us.  I know its a radio station and they're usually full of it, but Axl did call into the show a bit ago.

The announcement is to reiterate that GNR is headlining and inform people exactly who the other bands are....Who deduced that it would be any more?  Anyone expecting more than that is going to be on here monday morning infuriated because they were "let down."  Stop elaborating things like this!

 Some ppl might recall when Axl called in the first time that he said he would call back in closer to the concert time so why would it be a surprise if they  talk to Axl tomm a.m.?

Totally agree.  Everyone's always expecting some sort of "big announcement," or "big advertising campaign," or to have Axl walk out onstage with free copies of CD.  Not going to happen.

Think about it - what's the announcement going to say?  "Hey everyone.  Guns n' Roses are playing Inland Invasion.  Now, here's the other 50 places they're playing!"  Give me a break.  Gn'R came back after a 4 year absence, and when the warm-up gigs and Euro tour was "announced," no one even knew it until they looked on this message board.

Gn'R are unconventional.  They'll play Inland, and then go away for awhile.  MAYBE with CD out soon after, but no one knows, and no one will tell us. 

It will say something about gnr for sure. I dont think we will here anything new about dates or cd, but I am listening to the station right now, and during the comercial for the bean show in the morning, they keep saying the invasion is coming and playing gnr clips in the back ground

So therefor in all likelihood the announcement will just be confirmation that they are playing this. As far as them debuting a single or having any kind of other info, I find that highly unlikely

Axl did an interview with kroq and was first to announce they would be playing the festival, also on the Kroq web site it states "KROQ's Inland Invasion 2006 with Gun's N Roses", and they have been advertising the the 7:15am details thing with bits of Welcome to the Jungle in the backround.

well thats why I highlighted 'official'. Axl stated in the same interview that CD would be out in the fall - it may well be the case, but I still dont take that as official confirmation until a proper media release is forthcoming

try opening up the streaming a few times until your able to click on the play button. once you can click on it if you still can hear nothing just drag your volume button and move it to the left or right and you should be able to hear it

Wow, that's a very strong lineup. Appeals to multiple generations so good cross-demographic coverage... GNR for the 80s/90s, AiC for the early 90s, A7X for the younger kids... buckcherry's pretty popular... pappa roach was pretty popular (didn't know they were still around). 30 secs to mars/rise against i kinda know.

dilema dilema. Inland is a bit far to travel to only see a shortened GNR set. I wish L.A. dates were announced.

Papa Roach isn't Rap Metal anymore...they're a rock band now.  TRUST ME, they used to suck hard, now they're pretty decent.

Muse are an awesome band. Dont think thyeve caught on in the US yet, but they are very, very good

 Muse is absolutely fantastic, anytime Jerry Cantrell is involved ups the cool factor to off the scale and this version of BuckCherry is their tightest to date.

It's a great lineup, cool to see GNR at the top of such a strong bill.

Honestly this is one of the reasons for me not going. I am a family man and dont want to travel there to see a short ass performance so there is more time for groups I don't care about. Vegas on the other hand...thats all GNR and they can do whatever the fuck they want...when they want. And its Vegas so I can justify this much better.

A typical US Radio festival setlist is usually about 75 minutes for the headliner.

That said, If GNR wants to assume the costs for playing beyond curfew it could go on longer.

Keep in mind it's Axl we're talking about, so all conventional bets are off.

Inland Invasion is the first "Los Angeles area" show since I saw them with Metallica at the Coliseum and Rose Bowl in 1992. It shall be a HUGE show for us Californians!!!

I guess it all depends on what you see a s full set.? Jetison the solos and "jams" and GNR could easily pack a "full set" into 75-90 minutes.? As I said before, all conventional bets are off.

They're fucking brilliant, a great addition to a already tight bill.

The fact the venue is in the middle of nowhere(no one to bother) I don't think they'll have a problem with curfews. If they were able to play full sets at all of the previous festivals I don't see why they couldn't play just as much here.

I'm pretty excited for this now, that there's a possibility of going, because i dont see another cali date being announced before tickets on sale.  this venue sits 55,000 people and i'm sure i'll get tickets(however if i get lawn i dont really wanna go).

Yeah definitely dont post any pre sale info, just not cool.  For the hammerstein shows the first password was all over the net, and us fans almost got screwed out of being a die hard gnr fan at getting first shot at the tix., but luckly we got another password. Dont let it come to that this time.

The fact that Im traveling to LA for this show makes me want to know that my tix are legit, so I just got Lodge. I have serious doubts that on Sat there will be many better seats available.....Maybe the top Orch, middle Lodge, and Lawn......This has happened to me alot thru Ticketmaster, the last time on a NIN concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater which is almost the same size as Huynday.......I really wonder how do thousands of good seats get sold and how do scalper ticket web sites get so many of them. Maybe ticketmaster gets mostly only the crappy seats and tghe scalper sites get the premium and then pay the venue some fat fee.....who knows, but it's become ungodly expensive to get good seats in the US in recent years.

well if they dont have any better seats ill just settle with the lawn. i just cant wait till they tour and we fans can have our own pre-sale before anyone else so we can get some great seats/pit tickets
