Title: Yesterdays - Performed LIVE For the VERY first time by Guns N Roses (w/Adler!)
Post by: MotleyCrue on August 14, 2006, 05:13:34 AM
Ok, so i was on da net, and searching for a version of Coma from Live Era 86-93 and I came across this file marked 'Yestardies88' and it had GNR labeled in front of it so I decided that Id download it for the hell of it, and after a quick virus scan, i listened to it...and it bloody well sounds like Axl and Slash at a Hollywood party playing Yesterdays for the first time

(the funny thing is that Axl says theyre gonna try record this next week, which means then that it should have been recorded some time in 1990/91, but as we all know they didnt play many shows in that timeframe - only one in 90 at Farm Aid - so this could well be ADLERS last GNR performance if it was after this time)

if someone helps me ill be glad to upload the file...dunno how to use yousendit

It was a "Drunk Fux" which at this performance had the entire band there plus Del James and Wes Arkeen. They played it in Janurary 1988 (Before the infamous '88 Ritz show)

They played - Yesterdays, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Born To Be Wild, Honky Tonk Women

Shame it was never recorded on video

Whats the quality like? yea Adler played on a lot of the illusions before they were recorded.
I wonder why Slash once said that the material was beyond him at that point, if adler did play on most of it like. Maybe he was just pointing out how adler was too stoned to play.

01.31.88 - The Limelight, New York, NY
set: One In A Million, Patience, Cornshucker, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Used To Love Her, Don't Cry, Welcome To The Jungle, It's So Easy, Not Fade Away / Mr. Brownstone, Patience, Instrumental Jam, Rocket Queen [Instrumental], You Shook Me, Rock And Roll, Instrumental Jam
audio/video recording?: audio
notes: Rare acoustic/electric show. The only known live performance of 'Cornshucker,' which was written by Duff & sung by Duff & Axl at this show. 'Welcome To The Jungle' starts the electric set. Axl sings a few lines of 'Not Fade Away' by The Rolling Stones during the beginning of 'Mr. Brownstone.' Axl temporarily leaves after the second performance of 'Patience,' which was an improv jam. He was pissed because GN'R wasn't supposed to play this show. The band then jams on some songs. During the 'Instrumental Jam' after 'Patience,' parts of 'Whole Lotta Rosie' & 'Born To Be Wild' are played, with Axl singing. A roadie comes on stage to sing 'You Shook Me' & 'Rock And Roll,' which were done by Led Zeppelin. 'Rock And Roll' features the 'Living Loving Maid' intro. Again Axl comes back during 'Rock And Roll' to help out on vocals.

actually yesterdays wasnt played at this show

I absolutly love this version. It is the same one found on "GN'R Ultra Rare Tracks 4", except it is of much better quality. This version clearly is not taken from a gig at a club like the limelight or wherever, it sounds like a party to me. But who knows? It's awsome, The old GN'R at thier best!?I recommend everyone to check it out. : ok:

I once downloaded a studio demo of Yesterdays from here that had different lyrics at the start. It went:

When I was young,
There were so many things I was never told.
Now that Im starting to learn,
I feel Im growing old,

Because yesterday means nothing to me,
...
(as normal for the rest)

I wonder if that demo predates this performance?
