Title: DVD Viewing and Ripping help needed (VOB and IFO stuff)
Post by: R4tfink on August 12, 2006, 02:28:49 PM
How do.

To all the the techies out there! I have just started using bittorrent namely so i can get the RAR gig downloaded and it seems like quite a cool way of downloading.

My only issue is this, i am aware the files are downloaded in VOB and IFO and BUP file format extensions.

How does one convert these files so A: i can play them on my PC and B: so when i want a Rip it DVD i can do this relatively hassle free?

Ive searched for god knows how long and found ways to rip the files from DVD to the HD but not to rip Downloaded files in VOB and IFO format to DVD or indeed play them from you PC as if they are MPEG and AVI etc.

I feel a bit behind the times but im trying. Anyhelp would be much appreciated. As i say i have searched long and hard but all the help sites are crammed with so much information its hell finding the specifics for your problem.

Cheers in advance you geeks!

You can either just watch the VOB files using some kind of DVD player software, or burn the whole DVD by dragging the files from the VIDEO_TS folder to the same folder on the DVD you're gonna burn.

Quite easy of you use Nero.

Yeah i use Nero (its Version 6 Ultra edition doesnt have DVD video option), so its just a case of dragging and dropping then?

Ill give it a try when it finishes downloading thought it was going to be some superlong complex task.

Do you have a DVD burner?

When you start a new project, Nero should give you the option to choose whether you want to burn a CD or DVD and then you choose the kind of disc you wanna burn (audio, video etc).

Yeah i got a burner. Just my Nero software is a but dated.
I think the info you gave is gonna be great!

Now then, whats all this FLAC business? Do you need to convert it to play it or will it just play in Windows Media?

Thanks for your help jarmo.

Im not sure about FLAC and Windows Media. it either doesn't work, or you'll need a codec.
but FLACs do however work with Winamp! : ok:

You need to get a codec - google Flac Front-end or http://flac.sourceforge.net/index.html
Click on the downloads link and there is a codec there which will allow you to play them in media player. Also another to let you burn in Nero.

Dont worry about it - a couple of months ago I was completely clueless and knew nothing of the world of flac and torrents. Now I am about to burn the RAR gig and got most of the audio from the tour in Flac. You will pick it up in no time.

Need any more help let me know

Perhaps you could help with the error i keep getting on DimeAdozen then greg?

It says...

Aborting the torrent as it could not connect to the tracker while not connected to any peers.

I am using the bittorrent application to download the torrents...

http://www.bittorrent.com/index.html

Thats where i got the torrent client from.

Could this error have anything to do with me only having a ratio of 0.21 and once i get up to 0.25 the other downloads will start again?
