Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Anybody tried to sing the new songs like CITR, TWAT, IRS and Better. There is no room for breathing in those songs. I think this songs will be a challange for Axl to sing because if you try to sing them loud avd very correct they take the breath out of you 100%, some lines in TWAT and CITR is almost impossible. We all know Axl needs a little oxygen and seem a little out of breath sometimes, so it would be intresting to see how this goes.
I think it would be almost impossible for him to do this songs like they been done in the studio.
But i hope he can do it very simular. On the UK and Europe tour vocals got better show for show in the end even my friends that hate GNR was impressed.

In a lot of old songs it's just the same.? Because it's this way on the album doesn't mean it has to be exact the same live.

Yeah I have noticed this.

We had a few beers round mine the other night and attempted to sing along to Better and IRS. They both hit very high notes in a short space of time and we ended up giving up with horse throats!  ;D

I noticed Axl modifying some of them live to make it easier for himself to hit the notes.

I wont say its very simular in the old songs, but i agree it dont have to be exact the same live.

and yeah he modifying it live, exaple of this is the scream in IRS and middle part of better, but its okey.

My point is only that they are very hard to sing very identic or impossible.

My band covers "Better" and I've had more then a little trouble keeping up with certain parts. I had my bass player fill in some of the "No one ever told me..." parts and now it's coming along my better then before.

Seeing several of the songs listed performed live, Axl & Co. pull it off quite well overall...

This happens in more songs, take that middle part of You Could Be Mine for example ("while you're breaking down my back..." or something like that), Axl could NEVER sing it right live

The "I would do anything for you" high notes in TWAT are fucking brutal.

He has definitely gotten it right on some occasions, I think - sometimes the chorus that follows that section can suffer a little. I never thought he would be to pull Coma off live, but he did it really well at the Chicago 92 show.

The thing to keep in mind is that Axl probably could sing any of the stuff close to 100% if he wanted to stand there at the mic and give it the kind of attention that he would in a studio setting. That's not really the point of a rock show, though - more often than not, you have to sacrifice a little perfection from the performance to keep the crowd entertained - that's the nature of the beast, as it were. Most of the time, the audience isn't going to care - it's more the obsessive types scrutinizing every bootleg that will notice.

As for the people who figured out that they couldn't sing along with the the new songs very well, I can't say I'm surprised. Although I'm sure there are some exceptions, most of us don't have the range, or diaphragm and breath control that Axl has.

I'm sure they are smart enough to not edit the vocal parts to the point that they can't be reproduced live. Presumably, they are writing the stuff in the rehearsal space. Pro-Tools has a lot of cool applications that don't include editing and auto-tune.

Pro-tools is okay as long as you don't use the helium voice/auto-tune feature a la Cher.
