Title: Live like a suicide Sealed LP on ebay gotta love this...
Post by: bombom on August 05, 2006, 03:33:48 PM
Theres a sealed LP of live like a suicide on ebay right now with a reserve and a bit of blurb regarding it and the previous 2 suicide lps hes sold going for lots of ????.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300014483380&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUK%3A1&rd=1

I mailed him and asked what his reserve price was and if he was interested in selling it privately, this was his response

"If I had to end the auction early to sell the record to you I would need $750.00 US. This truly is the last copy I have. I worked at Geffen Records when the album was released and had stashed away three copies. "

anyone notice anything odd about that comment? aside from the ridiculous price?

i seen alot of these lp's in the last few years it could be fake it is easy to boot those as is cd's. i used to work in a place called the record rack in washington pa before it closed the guy retired he has 5 sealed 1's back in 2001 so to me it is not rare.

i thought geffen funded suicide but released it under the uzi suicide label?
so maybe hes not lying

I used to work at a label, and I got free stuff from other labels (including some bands' previous independent labels), so I think it's quite possible, and highly likely if this person was a DGC/GNR promoter.

Post by: wadey on August 05, 2006, 04:30:05 PM
i always thought uzi suicide was a label that geffen / gnr made up for the sole purpose of releasing llas
sort of like testing the water before geffen put their name to the band

The Uzi/Suicide logo is on EVERY GN'R release, so I'm thinking it's something along the lines of KoRn's Elementree label...? Never really thought about it though...? ???

Will Chinese Democracy have the Uzi Suicide logo on it???   ???  ???

good point, i think maybe pandora could shed some light on this geffen/suicide issue

... Interesting issue. For what its worth, the Behind the Music doc made it seem like GNR's first Geffen release was AFD.

The guy is an asshole though if he seriously wants to charge that kind of money. He claims his last one sold for "a large amount". LOL.

I paid about $200 for a mint copy off of ebay (wasn't sealed though).  I just couldn't refuse a mint copy of this album.  But yeah, I don't think it's really that rare.  This album comes up on ebay quite often, although most times they aren't mint.  But if you have some patience and $200 just wait a bit and you can score a nice copy.

I tend to believe various things are more rare than LLAS.  Both Illusion albums seem harder to find in mint condition, and same with Live Era.  Certain versions of singles such as Jungle, It's So Easy, and Nightrain will fetch $100 and higher...pretty impressive considering we are talking about just a single.  Case in point:

"Live Like A Suicide" was "sponsored" by Geffen I guess. But recorded and everything else outside Geffen. Maybe Geffen saw this as a test if GNR would sell records...

Live Like A Suicide was bootlegged heavily on LP in like the mid 90's in Korea I believe and a good chunk of those are what are floating around on ebay claiming to be originals.  I had an original copy at one point and sold it for about $150 a few years ago.  I think there was a way to tell the bootlegs (maybe etching or something was funny with the sticker), but I'll try to find the link that had them compared.

Uzi Suicide was a ghost label of Geffen Records. It wasn't an independant sub-entity.

Uzi Suicide = Geffen Records

And $750 = big-time rip-off

Yeah, I sorta suspect mine might be a fraud.  But it's really hard to tell.  If it is a fake then they have done a really great job.  It's almost like owning the real thing, and I'd be hard pressed to decide do I want an original that is in pretty rough shape, or a perfect duplicate that is in mint condition?  Cuz if it's a fake that sort of ruins it, but so does physical damage.  At least that's what I think.  Would be cool to see that link though, just to know for sure what I have.  :peace:

Yes, exactly this album was released by Geffen under the name Uzi Suicide.? It isn't really "live" either, but actually studio recorded so even though this is a collectable, the whole album is really sort of a farce.? I am perfectly happy for having it on my original "Lies" vinyl for this very reason.?

Axl, himself, calls it the most contrived POS ever:

Yeah but if it's a fake you could have just bought Lies and had it without paying the extra $100+ for it if you did or not.  :hihi:

It's possible but anyone who would pay that kind of money for it is insane when the music itself is readily available.

Well, not quite dude.  Even if you've got a fake copy of LLAS, it's still a copy of the EP.  You sort of feel like you've got a piece of GN'R history in your hands.  At worst you've got a pretty authentic replica of it.  Lies is a completely separate release and it doesn't feel the same.  When I'm holding Lies I feel like I've got something a lot less special in my hands from a collector's standpoint.  In terms of what is pressed on the record though, it is of course superior!

But yes, $750 is a ridiculous price for LLAS.  It ain't worth even close to that.  I'd go no higher than $200 for a mint copy.

with things like that its not about the music on the record its about the item and its rarity , but yes its priced to high

Haha it'd still be a repro and they'd have to mention 2006 on it somewhere... but it'd be a sweet deal.   I have it on tape - never played, never opened.  Anyone know what it'd be worth??

I don't see the point of paying that much for this album unless you absolutly "MUST HAVE IT". we have already heard these song and seen the cover art.  it's nothing new. We download songs all the time with no artwork or sleeves. But if you must have it,  knock your self out and enjoy yourself.  good luck!

There definately are re-produced/fake versions of LLAS. I was shown a copy at a record collectors fare in the UK. The only way of telling the original and fake apart was the vinyl on the re-produced version was alittle heavier/thicker than the original. The dealer further told me some of the other artists that are re-produced included rare material from Madonna, Michael Jackson, and sell for a fortune on Ebay to unsuspecting buyers.  It was suspected that they vinyl was actually pressed in Russia!!

Hope this helps......

BTW........I still have mine with a ?4.49HMV import sticker on the polywrap on the sleeve..... ;D

I agree with this and not to mention I am especially wary of Ebay sellers these days because GNR is making a big comeback now so it's an especially good time to rip people off because of the renewed interest.  Buyers beware, if you aren't 100% sure of what you are buying...well, then don't buy it, especially for $750 unless you have that kind of money to just toss around.

I don't think Axl will ever re-release it just because it was already re-released on Lies so there would really be no point to doing this unless he was in financial despair and we all know he certainly isn't.

I bought a "a brand new and sealed" copy of the LLAS cassette tape. And while the tape was authentic, it wasn't so "brand new." I opened it up when I thought I saw a tear in the cassettes inlay (an impossibility if it had never been opened before), and sure enough, cracks and a piece of the plastic missing from the tape as well as a tear in the inlay. I got it for $17, so I am not complaining, but be aware that there are people out there who will rip you off shamelessly.

If I were you, I'd rather wait for a used one to show up on eBay (plus, one with a little wear and tear is probably more likely to be authentic). I got the vinyl release of LLAS on there for about $80. $750 is a rip off, new or not.

Yeah I saw that one.  It's clearly the back of the Lies album - the Geffen logo is a give away.  however, the bar code in the top right corner that is normally on the back of a Lies Lp is missing - which makes me think it might have been photo shopped out to make it look more authentic!

yeah noticed the code was missing too, the line of small print is still there across the bottom though
whats the point in photoshopping the bar code and leaving the geffen logo? seems pointless to me
they cant hide the fact that it wont be LIES when it comes through the letterbox....

yeah I saw that too - thought it was pretty lazy.  If you are going to get rid of the bar code you might as well get rid of the Geffen logo and the small print down the bottom.

I just sent them a messge sledging them - will be interested to see if I get a response.
