Title: For those who have met the bandmembers....their fav song on CD
Post by: highend88 on August 01, 2006, 03:37:04 PM
For those who have met the bandmembers, did you ask each OR every one of them their favourite song on CD?

We know that AXL's favourite song on CD "Better, Blues and TWAT" from the RS interview.
And we had an interview from a member here with Dizzy a while back that his fav is "The General".

What about the rest?

Yeah, Richard has said that "Chinese Democracy" is at least the most fun to play live (thus far)...

Slightly disconcerting. Or maybe the confidentiality agreement gone mad. Better, T.W.A.T and Madagascar are fantastic... I'd hope the others were the weaker links on the album.

He actually said he preferred Chinese Democracy over Riyadh and The Bedouins

The guys are not allowed to mention the other songs, so they will obviously reply with ones that they can talk about.

Mercky Merck said a while back that IRS, amongst other leaks, is a song not in the top 10 being considered for inclusion on Chinese Democracy.

I am 99% sure that Axl mentioned those songs when asked at the Korn party because he knew the band would play them live during the Euro tour to prevent it being farcical.

The producers and the likes who have squeeled in the past have mentioned grand sweeping 7 minute ballads and incredibly intense rock numbers with full orchestras everywhere. We haven't heard anything slightly reminiscent of that.

IRS is a weak song. It does not necessarily suck. But if they choose to make it a single over other songs, this will be a mistake.
The only song as far as I am concerned that sucks is Rhyiad. According to many band members both Rhyiad and Silkworms were supposed to not be taken seroisuly and will never be on any albums...too bad, I kinda liked SilkWorms.

He's actually said it's his favorite new song to play. GNRSucks.com used to have the interview up he did with a guitar site/mag, just a quick little thing, and he specifically stated that...

I second that, if that song was chosen to be a single I think it would get little or no responce, also I wouldn't want to see the band's name on that song.  I'm sure they're capable of much better rocker...

Mercky Merck said a while back that IRS, amongst other leaks, is a song not in the top 10 being considered for inclusion on Chinese Democracy.

Fans and bands not necesserly agree which are the best songs.

BTW it's a bit scary that Axl said in 2001 or 2002 that 'the songs we're playin' are not the big guns' and later that 'Better, The Blues and TWAT are my favourites', so I guess that these supposed to be the 'big guns', which isn't a good sign. (I don't say that these songs are bad, I like Better and TWAT while Blues is an OK song, but I expect(ed) the whole album to be much better than the songs we've heard so far.)

Back to the topic: I wish they'd talk more about the yet unheard songs since it's always interesting which are the musicians' favourites.

Izzys favourite is Chinese Democracy, though he admitted he had only heard the live version. He said he likes Better too. Hasn't heard any final versions yet.

They could redo that song with nothing but farting noises and it would still be worlds better than the original.

silkworms grew on me, it an OK song, wouldnt put it on cd, a bonus track on a single or something, did axl write the silkworms lyrics??

seems to me CD will be a big mix of songs through all three albums (if that is still the plan) of input from all members on all types of music

Wasn't it said that in the later half of the 90's that CD had a more industril feel to it?

They really need to do a Beatles Anthology style release of all the different CD outtakes.

IRS could be such a good song if Axl just took out all the "OH'S OH'S!!" I could never see it being good enough to release as a single though. At best it would be a solid song on CD and a good live tune but i wouldn't take it or want to see it taken any further.

I really like IRS, but There Was A Time would make a better single IMHO.

Of course, for all we know the songs could have changed since the demo leaks.

Hi ,
Thanks for taking the time to write to me.  I apologize for the
lengthy
delay in responding to your email.  I've been trying to catch up on my
website emails while I'm on this tour.  Not that easy though, i'm still
only at April and I've only got 2 more weeks left on the tour!  Sorry
about any confusion or concern i caused by taking the dates off of my
site.  I took them down at our management's request.  They didn't want
there to be any confusion in case any of the dates were changed.  Hope
you were able to see some of the shows.  I surprised to hear that I am
bound by confidentiality agreements, i didn't realize.  Yes, Axl does
come to rehearsals!  Lately i've been listening to Wolf Mother, Wolf
Parade, Arctic Monkeys, My Morning Jacket, Black Mountain, Magic
Numbers, Millionaire, Calexico, Secret Machines, Guillemots, Raconteurs
and Jamie Lidell.  What are you listening to as of late?
thanks,
richard

this is the message i sent him (months ago):

> hi. how are things going? good i hope. I was wondering why the Guns N
Roses tour dates have been pulled from your website. Are you still in
Guns N Roses? I know you're bound by confidentiality agreements and
whatnot, but can you please shed some light on some Guns related things?
Like who IS in the band these days? Does Axl partake in rehearsals? Will
we hear more new material on this tour and will we hear more Illusion
Era material on this tour?
>
>
> i was also wondering who some of your favorite bands are? Are there
any newer bands (bands that have come on the scene within the last 3-5
years) that you are particularly fond of?
>
> thank you very much for your time.
