With the U.S. tour scheduled to kick off sometime in September, one can only assume the possibility of an August single release?  thoughts?

That makes sence. But I would not count on that in the GNR world, even though that would be the perfect time to drop the single.

I for one wasn't aware that August was recognized as the only month that anyone goes on vacation. I also wasn't aware that people aren't allowed to listen to or care about music on their vacations. Where can I find these rules/facts?

I would think this would be the best time for a single if there's gonna be a US leg of the tour. I'm sorry to say but for most Americans to give Axl a chance he needs to get back into the spotlight. I havent saw very much press at all here in the states about the Summer tour. He will need a single, Chinese release date, and a ton of exsporuse if not its gonna be the low attendance like in 2002

A single can come out in early September, it doesn't have to come out in August. Still, it might. All that really has to happen in August is a press release with a CD release date on it.

oh the irony!  the biggest loser on the forum cant even spell the word!  anyhow, i suppose youre right.  august IS the only month people vacation, and you know the LAST thing vacation goers want to do is listen to music.  boy do i feel silly.

I would expect vacation-time to be a good time for a single-release, since generally they like to chill out....usually with a radio or music device of some sorts.

I don't care if it's freakin holidays month.. I'll take a single whenever and in the sooner date they can

I agree, i don't care what day it is.  i don't really look for it in august though.  it wouldn't surprise me if he starts a tour without one. 

the next 2 weeks are crucial if we expect a single before us tour

If there was gonna be a single this month (it is August now), we would have heard about it or some podunk radio station program director would have leaked it already to get some pub for his station. Frankly, I don't look for one in September either.

I am just speculating, but I think IMO , a single would probably be released a week before the INland INvasion gig, Sept 23rd. Thats JMHO. That show is on a Sat, ( and if all goes the way I see it Ill e flying to cali on the 21st:) ), but I could see the single being released the Monday before. And CD being released a few weeks later. And teh start of the US tour I week after CD drops. For some reason I dont think the inland show is gonna be a rtue start to the tour, but rather, finally giving the west coast the last show of what has been done in ERope, as they havent played out there in many yrs, so it would be fitting to let them get this show. THen revamp and rehearsh for a month, the new setlist and stage show, as I assume that will be differnt also for after CD release!

Why do people always post their assumptions like they are rumors? If you want to discuss the likelihood of a single being released in August, how about titling the topic, "Do you think we could get a new single in August?"

I'm really not interested in reading about people's assumptions, so everytime someone does this, they are wasting my time.

what makes you think i am concerned with how you spend your time and whether or not you feel you are utilizing it properly?  i titled the topic with a question, because i am asking the forum members their thoughts on a possible single release by month's end.  you are wasting your time REGARDLESS, beacuse you are sitting on an internet message board.  im not concerned about what you are interested in and your time is of no more significance than anyone else's, so if you are so concerned with the utilization of your time, perhaps you should stop reading my posts, get your ass off the computer, and go out and make yourself a better citizen.  thank you for your "time".

The upcoming single, whenever it appears, will undoubtedly (hopefully?) be accompanied by a press release covering tour itinerary and album release date.  August...September, whichever.  I've been patient so far, what's another month?

Why bother actually releasing a single?

Just make and release a video, and then drop the album.

not to mention kids go back to school in august so one would think august would be as good a month as any but what do i know.........

because more people listen to the radio than watch mtv.  furthermore, mtv's audience mostly consist of teenagers, most of which, have no interest in guns n roses.  finally, do they even PLAY music videos on mtv anymore?

Doing something different actually has an appeal, and it never did Led Zeppelin any harm.

I think in August they'll all relax, Axl/Merck will choose the best tracklisting, a new tour will be scheduled and by Sep.14th we'll get a press release or a website update.

I think it's a joke that no single, or album update, was given on this tour. When they try and tour North America with no album or single it's going to be a disaster. I laugh every time I look at my Chinese Democracy shirt from 2002, that it's now 2006, and we're still waiting.

I went to see them at the Hammerstein, so i'm one of the suckers myself. I was lucky that I at least got to hear TWAT, Better, IRS, CD, Madagascar, and The Blues.

yeah, that hammerstein show has the best set list, i guess. the one with TWAT.

But on the Oslo show 28th june.. they played: Better, Maddy, IRS, The Blues, and Chinese Democracy... that is just crazy!

Though I'd love a single at anytime (RIGHT NOW!), I don't really expect one this month.

This month (probably around the third week), an annoucement giving the release date and announcing a tour will be fine.

In September (probably around second or third week, about a week before or week of the CA show) release a single.

Album drop in late October/November.

They could just realese the same song Take IRS for example the track list could be

1. I.R.S.
2. I.R.S. (Live from where ever)
3. I.R.S. (99' Sessions)

They could do this with pretty much any song they want as I'm sure they have more than one version of most of the songs. If there isn't a live version of it (say This I Love for instance) they could pick a song that won't be on any of the 3 albums or a re-vamped Oh My God or even a song From AFD or the illusions that the new band recoreded

because releasing a single and playing it on the radio is what will give them exposure.  also, led zeppelin was putting out an album every year, gnr hasnt released an album in 13 years.

i like the IRS idea. if they actually release a single on cd they shouldnt have anything old attached to it, since its the new band. no covers of old songs or anything like that....

i'm not too worried about a single, i just want the whole cd!  i don't think they will release a single, not in the next month or anything like that.  some one said make a video.....does mtv even play videos anymore?  do they even rock anymore?  last i looked at mtv they were playing a bunch of hip-hop and teeny-bob crap.

cuz a lot of people drive to work in the morning and drive back in the afternoon and listen to the radio while doing so and it'd be great publicity and always a great idea to release a single  :peace:

i honestly don't care when it's released as long as its released within the next few months.. august would be a great time in my opinion.. late august maybe.. release a single and a video and have all the kiddies go back to school hummin the new guns tune.. doubtful, but i can dream can't i? haha  :)

Well, folks, I think the ship has sailed on a new single in August. We're nearing the end of the first week of August with no announcement on anything. Cross your fingers for September.

For Christ's sake...we don't need a "single" long before the album.  Trivium just announced they're releasing a single October 2nd.  When's the album come out you ask?  October 10th.  This isn't necessary, all we need is an announcement with a date, tour, and a single DATE.  :rant:

Singles often premiere on the radio a couple of weeks before the actual single is released on shelves (Dani California by RHCP).  We'll probably have the single in Mid-September if it were to come out the 2nd of Oct.

This album isnt coming out till the end of November.

No one will release a cd of this magnitude in October, they'd just wait to capitalize on the holiday season.

after thinking it over, it would make most sense that they unveil the single at the inland invasion gig. ?after all its a kroq sponsored show and would be ideal for a hyped debut. ?besides axl owes it to california after spoiling us new yorkers with the 4 warm up gigs. ?this inland gig would also kick off the us tour & i would expect CD to be released around the 1st or 2nd week in Nov : ok:

i don't know, but if any of you are thinkin' that cd will just show up in your local record store, one fine day before christmas, without you actually knowing about it on beforehand are just out of... think again.

IF the album is to be released before christmas, every fuckin' music magazine, new paper and tv channel will know about it and mention it so that everyone knows about it the day it drops.

Im thinkin september is the absolute latest.

Usually bands start Promotion 2 months before the album drops.

So Id say Mid September we get a single, Album drops mid to late NOV.

Red Hot Chili Peppers released Dani California about 6 weeks before Stadium Arcadium came out, so realistically GNR could even wait all the way to the first week of OCtober to release the first single.

US tours usually go hand in hand with a single though.

Jon Bon Jovi said it best:

"A hit single is the difference between playing arenas and playing stadiums."


It would be in GNR's best interest to have a single out before the US tour starts in my opinion or u are gonna have the half empty arenas u had on the 2002 tour unless of course they start out only in big markets which is w hat they shouldve done in 2002.

The more time that passes the less hopeful I am that the album is going to come out this year. It isnt going to just sneak into stores without any hype, itll be anticipated for months in advance.

Typically anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks the first single will come out before the album release.  Once the single is officially dispatched to the radio stations, there will be a press release to go with it.  That's when we will know for sure the EXACT date of the album's release!

I would say the best bet would be to close the show at the VMA's with some unreal single no one has heard yet.... open w/ jungle a part then hit into the new single. when they are done.... Axl says Album will be released on so and so...  IMO thats the smartest thing todo.

they may use this gap before the us tour to get a single ready and record a video for it, then just drop it out sometime during the tour i think that would make the most sence, but then again axl doesn't always folow logic :)

that's what i thought, that mtv basucally sucks, so why bother with it?  it's kinda sad that mtv has turned into what it has....when it first came out it was cool.

and you know on the release of a single, just remember who we are dealing with.....axl rose......expect the unexpected.  don't be so sure that he's gonna follow any kind of "industry standard", he's gonna do it his way, be sure of that. 

so, do we think the single will be one of the songs we've heard so far. or one we haven't?
