pretty suspicious if you ask me...I've never seen a CD store do that before

HMV always do that kind of stuff. I know they did it with the new Pearl Jam CD a long time before it was released.

In Britain, sensible we do and sense is made. Pesky American nummerical preferance.

I hope that date isn't right, it's way too soon. Under four months is way not enough time to prepare. I need at least a years notice. Bouncy castles don't come cheap, and those huge Chinese Dragon costumes can't be found just anywhere, the local Argos don't have them stocked all year round.

Title: Re: From HMV?

Okay, I am confused.

Say that Nov. 13th is release date.

That is enough time to promote it.

But what about USA tour? ?How will that go? ?I mean, will USA tour be what I saw in May? ?How can Axl play songs off of CD on a tour if no one has the album yet? ?Would that mean if this date is true, then they'd have to do atleast 3 singles before they toured so people would know the new songs?

How many of you have seen GNR already and people other than us (downloading mofos) were unfamiliar with new songs?

This makes no sense to me. ?GNR know what they are doing but I want to see GNR on tour in USA with new songs and not the same show I saw in May. ?It was a great show but it'd be better with new material.

late september according to a mail from richard (which might be fake though....) : ok:

and it seems quite realistic to me. anyways.... i just hope for a CD release date prior to the US tour   , and as soon as possible

I was in HMV today looking at some CDs. I saw some GNR cds and i was lookin at the prices they were chargin for appetite UYI etc. As i was looking i saw this:

So i asked the woman if this is the REAL date and she replied "Yes, that the date" i said i didn't know there was a date and then she replied "Well yes, this is the date".. and i was like OK.

I know about the HMV website where it was letting people Pre-order the CD but to you think this is legit?
Im Not sure

that's what the guy @ cd.com posted....one question if he was in the store and saw it why ask if it is legit? seems kinda a weird question IMO...obviously it's legit if he had it in his hand...right? or am i missing something

That's four months down the line, much time to prepare. Good things have often happened to me in November (except in 1960). Hope it's true.

I do it, every time I go to a record store I'll check if they have all GN'R's cd's and how much do they cost.

This way, whenever anyone asks me about cd's, I'm aware of the prices and the best offers and I let them know where should they go and buy them.

HMV are retarded. Theyve been posting phony release dates for YEARS.

Title: Re: From HMV?
Post by: GunnerOne 84 on July 27, 2006, 09:33:10 PM
Though theyare guilty of this, I really doubt they pull dates out of their ass and take preorders, just so they can give the $$$ back when the date falls through. They get those dates from someone, although obviously it's someone who either has no clue, or GNR keep pushing it back.

I think gnr is retarded to tour in the us without a new album... i just don't get the logic. Your trying to reinvent the band by playing songs that are 20 years old.... get on with it.

Don't get me wrong I saw the band all 4 shows in NY in may and it was fantastic but enough is enough shit or get off the pot axl.

Hey, there's a method behind that madness. When you're on your horse in days of old, you'd have your sword in your right hand, (no such thing as lefties in them days), therefore in order to engage an enemy in combat, you'd naturally have to be on the left, that's whey all spiral staircases go a certain way, so th defender (at the top) had more room to swing a sword. See, neccessity isn't the mother of invention, Violence is!  :P

Well, we all remember the Amazon fiasco....but given the fact that they are in the process of booking the US tour (apparently), then this might be more believable...were i axl, i'd still want it out before i started trying to convince people to buy tickets  for live shows, given 2002... at least a single to grab the US public's attention.

It's doable.

what's the deal with everyone thinking the single will be out months before the album?
the single itself is usually out one week before the album. music video about 2 weeks before the album. radio starts playing the song 2-3 weeks before the album is released.

if the album is released the 13th of November, I don't think we'll see any single till late October.
not that I care, whats another month?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! i HATE dualdisc! for the pleasure of getting 5.1 and (usually pretty light) DVD content, you get the "bonus" of not being able to rip it to digital formats (without getting sound distortion). i listen to my music about 90% of the time on my computer or ipod, but i still want to have the physical album and liner notes! is that so wrong? the 2 dualdiscs i own i ended up "stealing" in mp3 format after i bought the disc...

I can think of numerous instances this year alone where the single was out well over a month before you could buy the album. RHCP and Buckcherry for instance.

well over a month? you mean the single was in the stores a month before the album?
that's just not correct, at least not with RHCP...I know that. radio started playing it MAYBE 4 weeks before the album was out, but not more than that.
anyways, 1 month would still put us in mid October. I just can't see the logic when people say something like; the album is being released in mid November, so the single will be out in September...well, that's something Ive never seen before.

I had the single from itunes well in advance of radio play, same with buckcherry, and because my girlfriend is into rap/pop/hiphop I have noticed a lot of songs that are on itunes/radio long before an album drops. A song called S.O.S. was out two months before the actul album dropped.

I don't use iTunes, but I couldn't find any illegal downloads of it until it had been on the radio a while. didn't find any good quality ones till the single was released on disc.

but you're probably right, Im just the way that when I buy an album/single, I don't just want a file. I want the case and the disc and everything! ;D

I always buy the album in the store because I am the same way, I just grab the new singles that are out first from itunes.

Something tells me even if CD is coming, we won't be getting the single early on itunes though lol.

the stores just havent updated their sections (and for a cd four months away, can you really blame them?).
it does sound the most plausible date we've seen so far (probably ever given whats gone on this year). but then again, hmv have a history of bullshit - not just with chinese democracy (though easily their worst offence, but thats not entirely their fault now is it?) and we really just wont know until axl says so...  it'd be nice, but until axl says so ill not get too excited.

They've still to decide what tracks will appear on the album. i still wonder if the album is 100% recorded. It would not surprize me if they still have some more recording to do. I think they only need a week to make the cd's so pressing them could begin in September.

Maybe Bumblefoot + Izzy + Seb needs to laydown some sounds, just as some added input. The UYI albums had all sorts of extra people on the credits.

so it's prolly bullshit then cu if one UK store has it you'd figure the whole chain would...there is no rumor anywhere else but this posters claim...no radio station rumblings or anything

lock this sucker and throw away the key if you ask me :peace:

the stores just havent updated their sections (and for a cd four months away, can you really blame them?).
it does sound the most plausible date we've seen so far (probably ever given whats gone on this year). but then again, hmv have a history of bullshit - not just with chinese democracy (though easily their worst offence, but thats not entirely their fault now is it?) and we really just wont know until axl says so...? it'd be nice, but until axl says so ill not get too excited.

but with this thread people will get excited...we all want it so bad that we want this to be true...and in reality it prolly isn't :'(

you never know...

im sorry, i cant keep a straight face typing that.

(uh-oh, the excitement is building in me - im starting to feel the urge to text my mates to call round to hmv! i need to get out of this thread!)

IMO releasing 3 singles (better, the blues, IRS or twat) before the album is not a bad idea in this case.

I like the date like 8/8, 10/10 12/12.

That picture evidence is meaningless. So what if theyve put a CD out with that release dates.. its probably an employee having a laugh.

Think about it logically.... if there was a release date then WE would all know about it through a legit source. Its not like everyone in the music industry knows it and is keeping it under wraps.

Everyones just second guessing when it will could out.

This is actually possible.

Richard said the tour would start at the end of September. If a single were to drop around that time, touring would be no problem, the album would come out what, six weeks later?

It's doable.

what's the deal with everyone thinking the single will be out months before the album?
the single itself is usually out one week before the album. music video about 2 weeks before the album. radio starts playing the song 2-3 weeks before the album is released.

if the album is released the 13th of November, I don't think we'll see any single till late October.
not that I care, whats another month?

I can think of numerous instances this year alone where the single was out well over a month before you could buy the album. RHCP and Buckcherry for instance.

well over a month? you mean the single was in the stores a month before the album?
that's just not correct, at least not with RHCP...I know that. radio started playing it MAYBE 4 weeks before the album was out, but not more than that.
anyways, 1 month would still put us in mid October. I just can't see the logic when people say something like; the album is being released in mid November, so the single will be out in September...well, that's something Ive never seen before.

I don't know which terrirories we're talking about here, but certainly from what I have seen in the UK, singles are commonly released more than one week in advance of an album. Certainly when I was doing student radio, music videos hit campus tv well in advance of the single itself being released (easily 6weeks if not more) then the single would get played on radio and be released after at least a 3 or 4 week campaign before being released. The album could almost be totally unrelated and be released after a month or so or even after a second or third single. In the UK, I think maybe singles were marketted and 'sold' rather than using them purely to advertise the album. Although, single sales have declined recently and the focus seems to be back on just using them as a promotional tool.

Whats the point in pre ordering an audio cd, when you can just go out and buy it on the day. Its not like it is a Playstation 3, where you know there will be a limited supply.

What would be good though, if HMV and other music stores are doing a pre order offer (money off) then they could atleast put out blank boxes showing the cd cover art work (they do this with video games).

Geffen Interscope

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! i HATE dualdisc! for the pleasure of getting 5.1 and (usually pretty light) DVD content, you get the "bonus" of not being able to rip it to digital formats (without getting sound distortion). i listen to my music about 90% of the time on my computer or ipod, but i still want to have the physical album and liner notes! is that so wrong? the 2 dualdiscs i own i ended up "stealing" in mp3 format after i bought the disc...

isn't it legal to download it for free when you already own the album?

Not in America. In America, the RIAA and software companies bribed politicians with "campaign contributions." In return, they got a law called the DMCA. Under the DMCA, it's illegal to bypass copy prevention even if you already own it. Theoretically, you could go to jail for copying/downloading something you already own.

That said, there is not a single copy prevention scheme on the planet that has not been broken. I'm hoping there isn't some shit on CD that prevents its usage in my car or PC, cuz those are basically the only two places I use for music.

hey i live in uk and went to hmv today and asked guy at the counter bout cd , he checked his comp and said its due for release sometime november, but he also said take it with a pinch of salt until you hear from an official source ,and to keep checking back there,so pretty much as i thought.

What everyone is overlooking here is that if there is going to be a DualDisc version - there's probably going to be some enhanced video content on the flip side - footage from the Hammerstein maybe?

Title: Re: From HMV?
Post by: ryan_of_lax on July 29, 2006, 09:08:14 PM
I hate Dual Disks.
The bonus material is usually just a video with a short interview, and some "enhanced stereo." Sitting myself infront of my DVD surround isn't what I'd consider to be pleasurable listening.

Just put out one solid standard copy. The classic CDs of the past were always one version, and one version only.

I mean, look at all the different versions of Contraband. Am I supposed to feel the need to buy them all? Just another money scam.

Odds are if its DualDisc as were saying we could see a few Hammerstien numbers.  I could see 4 to 6 songs on that. I'd buy that version pretty much.

I talked to the guy today. He said nothing is set in stone, but the record companies are the ones sending them release dates for albums. So, what's known is, for now, a Guns N' Roses release is slated for September. They don't know that it is CD and the date could always change.
