Title: Where are G'nR? (mtv.com)
Post by: bazgnr on July 20, 2006, 10:53:32 PM
"Why didn't Axl's band make the Greatest Metal list? Join the debate in You Tell Us."

It's funny to see the bands that made it, and why they were chosen.? I expected to see GnR, and was a bit surprised when they weren't on there.? Perhaps it comes down to Metal vs. Rock?? Either way, some interesting debate going on...

I always considered Guns a hard rock band, not a metal band.
Metal is suposed to be "heavier" than GnR music isnt it?

Guns clearly didn't make the list because they are not considdered metal. But how can any respectible music news site make a top 10 metal list and not include Tool.

Saying that GNR aren't 'metal' is seriously splitting hairs.

It's like what College Music Journal (CMJ) used to have (maybe they still do). They had the "Loud Music" page/list (kind of like a Billboard Top 100 list). Whether bands are billed as 'metal' or 'thrash' or 'hard rock', it all fell in the same list.

To most of us, it's about the aggression factor. Maybe GNR do not play as 'hard' or fast as some bands. But there's still that angry fuck-you factor. That's what counts.

Besides, if you're watching MTV for music, you need a serious check-up from the neck-up.

true!

metal for me is the way you play pretty (obvious). attitude is important but doesn't deside with genre you belong to.

GN'R ain't metal, they are Rock. It's as simple as that. and there is a difference between Rock and Metal. and to me the difference is pretty big.
