Will, I dont know much about the hotels, but I guess that Sokos Hotels (http://www.sokoshotels.fi/english/) are one of the cheapest in Helsinki. You should check them out. There is also one Sokos Hotel in Vantaa (cheaper than Helsinki) - the city is right next to Helsinki so by train it takes 10-15min to get there, and the hotel is located right next to the railway station. And that hotel is 7km from the airport.. If anyone knows better, help him :peace:

Yey, already got my tickets. Well not in my hand, but pre-ordered them through a friend who can do that before the official ticket selling starts. Normally I'd hate this kind of behaviour - the possibility to get tickets beforehand and using contacts this way - but now we're talking about Guns N' Roses, and I'm not going to take any chances that I'd miss Monday at 9 am for some reason.

I'd really like to help but I guess it's out of my control. For most of the gigs like Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden and so on, they have a 5 ticket pre-ordering quota, and this guy has already gotten 7 tickets for GNR.

This time this is working for me, but I really hate the fact that Lippupalvelu makes this possible. Workers for certain companies are able to get the tickets this way easily even when they are really not that interested in the band, and possibly many hardcore fans that are willing to stand in line or wait in the phone for hours can't get tickets because of that.

I'm torn but happy.

I missed booking for GNR in Sweden, so it is a must to get these tickets in Helsinki. I called booking agency in Sweden on Thursday, but the automatic voice was saying something in Swedish, so I had problems uderstanding what to do next. When someone translated it for me, it was too late.

I suppose it was kind of stupid of me to go to the actual ticket service instead of buying from the Internet. I sort of assumed they reserve extra tickets there, but now I know better: never, ever use any other method to buy tickets than the net. I did also try calling them as I was waiting for my turn, but didn't get through. This is some frustrating shit, I tell you.

Isn't there a chance that only a portion of the tickets was sold, and that they'll be releasing the rest later? It's quite common in certain countries.

At Hartwall Areena there are these "Club Seats" whose holders have a pre-emptive right to purchase tickets to those specific seats for any event held there.

I think it depends a lot of Gn'R's stage, but ummmh.. is there a possibility that I wont see anything from 107?

There was something wrong with that sale...there's no way 12,000 GN'R fans bought every ticket in less than 10 or 15 minutes. Look at how many people from the board didn't get tickets.

Yep. Actually, throughout its history (built in 1997 IIRC) Hartwall Areena has been criticized for its tendency to cater first to the corporate sector, then the fans. This has been most evident in the atmosphere at the home games of Jokerit. The old venue had its corporate guests sit almost randomly among the fans and the atmosphere was great. Now theres boxes and club seats and all that crap which basically creates "atmospheric black holes" in the crowd. Thus destroying the uniform atmosphere in the arena.

So I wouldn't wonder if bulk of the tickets went to a few corporations once again.

Sucks. I just don't get what the hell they're supposed to accomplish with that? This is not easy listening like the Stones, which I can understand is a rather attractive band from the corporate point of view.

Definitely there was. Seems that this time A LOT of business/corporate tickets were sold (businesses can buy tickets in advance, as far as I know), so to those of you going to the gig: expect to see tons of old men in suits drinking beer and wondering what the hell's going on. I guess there's so much nostalgia value related to GNR that the business tickets were really popular this time. From what I've read, the concert was nearly sold out already before "normal" people had the chance to buy tickets. It's really fucked up, and I'm going to give some feedback to Lippupalvelu on that.

Damn. Never thought people would've had such a shitty luck getting those tickets. I bought mine in Jyv?skyl?, and the receptionists were complaining they didn't have too many floor tickets to go around. I was ninth on queue, only one lady before me bought seats. When I got there, I asked how many floor tickets they still had. The answer was four. Ten minutes after opening and they were sold out, as a girl after me bought the rest.

I feel for you guys, seriously. I had a terrible feeling while I watched some hoarders get somewhere around 5 tickets at once. ?:rant:

It does sound a bit weird that it was almost sold out in 10 min. but then again I do remember how Iron Maiden sold out few years ago in 15 min.

Stupid thing, I was on the line for Finnish tickets on 13th (I was maybe fourth)  and when they started selling
tickets, there were NO floor tickets available! "Thanks" to Events Club of course, whose members can book tickets beforehand...  >:(

Anyway, I was able to get two tics to lower level section 111.

And stay tuned next Monday morning around 8.00 AM, that?s when they will release those booked tickets that haven?t been collected yet.

Hello, it's me again, a friend of a person who can preorder tickets. I got myself three floor tickets for the first show, and I was going to get only one for the second show and enjoy it alone without my girlfriend. ?It wasn't so easy this time. I got in contact with my "dealer" too late, and their preordering quota, or whatever it is, was almost full already. I had to be satisfied with a seat in the upper bowl of the arena, not even knowing which part of the arena the seat is. But at least I will be inside the building.

Now all I have to do is find the papers to fill for my student loan...

i refreshed exactly at 9 local finnish time and only seats left... how is this possible? i was in queue for 1 min...

I'm sure there will be returning tickets to sale on monday.  I think this is the record of sol out shows in finland. No band before this has sold out 2 gigs in row in this time. Not even Iron Maiden wich is quite big in Finland. They only sold out 1 show out of 3 what they are doing in here later this year. Way to go Guns N Roses.

There is a pre order in Finland too, 2 tickets for registered customer to every show. It costs you 50 euros/year. Tho there is no "official" link etc information about it but thats what they said to me when i called welldone, the ocmpany that makes the concerts in Finland.

I think that you wouldnt have got any tickets via theyre site. It's always down when something this big happens, always! Same on the phone order, its stuck too, i tried today ?just for the fun of it and it was full 8.55 when the tickets went to sale on 09.00......... so that tells you that the only way to get the tickets is to go to the line and be the first :) i did that on both of the gigs and now i am gonna see then twice, wich i am very happy about. I got pretty wasted yesterday, came back to home after 03:00 so I was sleeping :-\

I tried to get you tickets also but my friend at the cheese department (yes, cheese department) wasn't able to get more, don't know how many tickets he was able to get overall.

I've got one extra ticket for sale, if anyone's interested. It's for the first show (5.7.) section 305, row 14, seat 104. We, who doesn't have  ticket yet shouldn't be all sad. I mean there will be "left-over tickets", I'm sure for that. We just need to ring to Lippupalvelu and surf on their pages... It seems thet we should make unite group of those who hasn't ticket... It would be much easier to get thode damn tickets.. And remember that miracles does happend!!! I just heard that one of my best childhood friends has tickets for the second show, he also tried to get tickets for the first show but the thing is that he isn't going, his intention never was, his selling the tickets at an auction site just get profit, he wouldn't sell the tickets even to me for regular price.

Guns N' Roses and ticket selling for these two shows made the national TV news today in Finland. MTV3 (no related to Music TV) had a piece about professional ticket scalping, and they used GNR with quick sell-outs and then auction website full of quadruple priced concert tickets as their prime example how things are wrong. They used Live Era WTTJ video on the background.

What show was this on? I made email, just before the second show got confirmed, informed Iltalehti and Iltasanomat magazines about the whole re-selling thing around the big concerts and used GNR as topical example.

I think it was also on Huomenta Suomi or the crap show after that Ihana Aamu (?). I heard them saying there's gonna be a piece on the ticket selling, but I had to leave for work before it came on.

Finally got my tickets in hand from my "dealer".  I ordered the ticket for the second show blindly, only knowing that it will be the upper deck but not what section of the arena. First row in 303, seems pretty okay to me. On the floor on the 5th, 303 seat on the 6th - I believe this will be nice.

Just a few days until the first Helsinki gig. Only one more concert standing between me and GNR. I am not going to deny that I have been following this European tour with a small fear in my stomach that something might go wrong again and they will cancel. Hell, I don't think a long time Guns N' Roses can be very optimistic! But an incident in Donnington and another in Stockholm is all we have gotten, and otherwise everything has been smooth and great. (Of course, if one was a little in the slow side and didn't know the agenda of those about a dozen negative writers on this board, one could think that the whole tour has been a catastrophy and Axl should be locked in like Hannibal Lecter, but luckily I'm not THAT slow.) I'm still not saying 100% that my and the band's paths are finally gonna cross in Hartwall Areena, but I'd give it a 98,5 already.

I wrote on some other thread a story about the date almost exactly 15 years ago when my friends took off to see GNR in Helsinki, and I didn't go for whatever reason. That traumatized me so that I can still remember way too much about the whole day! Then in 2001 I was first in line to get a ticket when the new band was coming to Finland - and then they cancelled. Five years later I got tickets to two shows...

I started in a new job two weeks ago, not really knowing about my working shifts and stuff like that. I only had decided that I am going to see GNR on both days, no matter what. If I have to take days off without pay, that's what I'll do. If they won't allow that and say I should be here or there at that time or they fire me, then that's it, fire me. I am going to see Guns N' Roses two days in a row.

But things have a way of working out, and sometimes they work out so well it's just amazing. I live in a town more than 150 km from Helsinki and Hartwall Areena which makes travelling to the shows in the middle of the week possible but somewhat of a bitch considering the hours that Axl shows up on stage and the fact that I don't have a car. But guess what, the new workplace sent me to training for three weeks - to Helsinki. They pay me a hotel room in the city centre. I don't have to travel. I see the first gig, have a few hours of sleep in my free hotel room, and sharply at 8 AM I am back in training. The second gig that night, and at work again on Friday morning. No travelling, no costs, no inconveniences of any kind. Sometimes I truly believe that there is a higher power guiding us.

I am willing to send SMS updates from the show although I know my girlfriend is going to bitch about that in the arena. "You should just enjoy the show, put the phone away!" So if there are no others to update from Helsinki (maybe someone who has free SMS's or have them included in some sort of a pay package), I'll do it.

So who is going to open for Gn'R since BFMV cancelled their gigs in Helsinki and in Oslo?

hell fuckin' yeah.. thank god that bfmv cancelled :) so shitty band.. in my opinion saw them opening for metallica in tallinn and I really don't care to see them again :D
So now it's either a better opening act or a longer set for GNR :)

I personally think that Hartwall Arena is way too big for band like Melrose. If have read/heard that they are VERY intense band and that usually means that gigantic(?) arenas are way too huge for these kind of bands.
Great if you are in front of the stage but bore if you are way back sitting around? :o

So, anyone else's ears ringing? I'm thinking about whether I should use earplugs for the next gig or not... Tonight it seemed like the volume got a bit higher after the first few songs, or was it just me?

Not really, I used plugs in the beginning but couldn't hear anything, I was at 110 and the mix sounded pretty good (bumblefoots guitar was bit too low in the mix though but in Dublin, Download and Globen I practically heard none of his playing during the songs so..)

Like Makkonen said Areena was too big for Melrose, smaller place would be better for them

The long await paid off when Axl Rose and the boys came to Hartwall Arena

Guns N' Roses two-day set in Hartwall Areena in Helsinki started off with a pompous fashion yesterday. Although the personnel in the band has changed during the years like in a revolving door and for many the Guns are already buried, yesterday's show proved that some of the world's greatest rock songs just can't be forgotten.

Sometimes ago in Roskilde the band was 50 minutes late, and now they topped that and came on stage after loacl Melrose an hour and 45 minutes later than schedule. But the schedule change was quite expected.

Very simple stage set was decorated with red drapes and backdrop screens. Coming on stage the band started quite a commotion in sold-out Arena, and there was no mistaking of the night's number one star: Axl Rose left the rest of the band in his shadow, but the band, too, was very good.

The European Tour that started in late May has been praised, and also yesterday's show offered a great set of nostalgia. One can only imagine what amount of memories went on the minds of 11000 spectators while November Rain was played.

The concert, which was sold out in record time, was similar than previous tours. The crowd, very diverse in age, didn't mind at all to hear first WTTJ and ISE, and the show that included practically all the band's greatest hits offered many apex moments, like Dizzy Reed's piano version of Hanoi Rocks' Don't You Ever Leave Me.

Songs from the Chinese Democracy album have been heard before, too, but the show was clearly build on older material, and the Finnish audience appreciated that.

It remains to be seen how a tour consisting more material from the new album would go through to the same crowd.

Axl allowed photographers to the show "in the last minute". There's also another story where they interview Mike Monroe about Axl. There's nothing new or interesting really. Mike wasn't able to attend yesterday's show.

How do you call a show with that many solo's "a one man show"? Ok, all in all a fare review. Or something. Not exactly a deep account on what took place.

To my own "review" I have to add that at times some songs' vocals sounded like almost playbackish 'cause Axl hit the notes exactly like on record. I mean perhaps even too perfect for a live rock gig. Or maybe I was standing in an acoustic sweet spot  ;D

The other daytime paper, Ilta-Sanomat, also has a very positive review. They concentrate more to the lateness of the show, but not really in a negative way. The headline "GUNS N' ROSES DID IT AGAIN!", the closing caption "Welcome finally back, Axl!"

I was there last night and Axl sounded more than perfect (i was expecting less quality in his voice, to be honest) I was quite surprised to see people that didn't really seem to be fans, and some leaving early...makes me wonder if this was what made a lack of tickets for true fans?

Phew..good show last night, although I think that five solo spots may be just a bit too many. My wife and I drove our own car to the show and I'm glad we did, cause the taxi lines were insane after the show.

A little disappointed that there wasn't any Izzy or Sebastian Bach at the show, but great concert anyway. SCOM, KOHD and November Rain were my favourites. Bumblefoot's Don't Cry-solo was awesome and Finck has really improved improved his playing since 2001-2002. Can't remember song order, I slept for only two or three hous last night and I'm supposed to be at work in about one hour...

Sorry, I bought an online copy of the paper and it's not working anymore. But there was something about Axl being a great guy, Mike playing in Bad Obsession and signing in Ain't It Fun, how they have not kept in contact in many many years, but Mike still talks to Slash every now and then, and then there was the mention about the thing in Japan 2001 when Axl didn't want to play at the same stadium than Hanoi or something like that. "It wasn't a big deal for us. We played in the stadium near-by and it was the best promotion we could hope for. I thanked Axl for that (during the gig)." Then Mike said that he isn't able to attend the Helsinki shows because of Hanoi's own tour.

Talked with my friend today who was working backstage in Helsinki and he told me few things.

When Dizzy started playing Don't ever leave me by Hanoi Rocks, Axl yelled Dizzy "Your a fucking genious!!" as Axl and the band didn't know what Dizzy was going to play.

For the drummer of Melrose, Gersh replaced the drumheads of his drums, also the guitarist of Melrose had lived with Dizzy in the past.
