No, and let me tell you why.  If it's basically inheriting a "soul" from one distinct human being that lived in the past, there are alot of "soul"-less people roaming the planet.  More people live on Earth today in 2006 than have ever lived before us...combined!  6.63 billion people are alive today.  Humans have only been here for a small % of the ~4.35 billion years Earth has been here.  We all evolved from a very small population, DNA testing/tracing of Europeans/Africans/Asians/etc. has found remarkably little difference amongst humans.  This signifies close relativity between humans...closer than say our closest living relatives, the chimpanzees.

Now, if we can "inherit" the souls of other animals, plants, insects, etc., sure, reincarnation is possible.  All it takes is the belief in a "soul."  If it's the creation myth you dig, I have no problem with it.  If you believe you are a person from the past reincarnated only once and done, then no, it's not possible.  If you believe you were Teddy Roosevelt, who b4 that was George Washington, who before that was Ferdinand Magellan, sure, that's possible!  No wackier than any other belief structure.   : ok:  The souls just have to add up.   :peace: 

Nice points A4P2004 but here's the answer to the "more people now than before" thing: What about creatures who are or are nearly extinct. A lot of people were probably Bengal tigers in past lives... sounds crazy, but think about it this way... you're a Bengal tiger... and you're killed by a man. You could end up being a descendant of that man in a future life.... aka you are reincarnated as what you were killed by... maybe... its just a theory...

I guess the point I was making on the reincarnation deal (aside from the mathematical incongruities) is that folks in their past lives are almost always something pretty cool.  95% of folks in the past probably led very boring lives.  Most were led and did not lead.  The bravest and dumbest usually got killed early in life.  When people get these "readings" they don't want to hear, "Yes darling, you were an illiterate whore who died at the age of 23 after being gang-raped by a band of pirates.  Your greatest accomplishment was almost learning how to untie your shoelaces.  Did I mention at least you got those pirates back after your death...you gave them syphilis."   ;)
