Title: Best live versions of all the "new" songs so far
Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on July 02, 2006, 11:38:10 PM
I know this could possibly be a Dead Horse or an Appetite For Collection thread but I've yet to see lists of these in those sections, so I'll ask it here.  I'm interested to see what everyone thinks is the best live version, or more specifically best live recording, of the new songs is.  For me

The Blues - Pittsburgh 2002
Madagascar - Budapest 2006
Chinese Democracy - MSG 2002
Rhiad - Vegas 1/1/01

TWAT obviously we've only heard once

Better and IRS I haven't heard enough versions of to make a judgment

I saw IRS in person on the 5/15 show and it kicked ass, but I haven't listened to any live recordings of it besides RIR which was just weird, the vocals and guitars were drowned out by the synths and keyboards

i think the best IRS would be imsorry's remastered one of Nova Rock. Either that or one of the 4 IRS remasters i have from RIR5.

Not sure about Better though.

Not necessarily the best versions...just the best boots

The Blues- Pittsburgh 2002.
Madagascar- Pitsburgh 2002, not 100% sure.
Chinese Democracy- Hammerstein 5/15 (the new version).
Rhiad- Summersonic 2002.
IRS- Best sound Hammerstein 5/15, best video with sound that good too Hammerstein 5/17.
Better- Hammerstein 5/17.
Oh My God- Rio 2001
Silkworms- Rio 2001, I wish there was a boot of Vegas 2001 because the version I heard there was 1000% improved.

The Budapest 2006 version of "Madagascar" is amazing.

The Budapest 2006 version of "Madagascar" is amazing.
One of the last verses from that performance of Madagascar (the one Axl changed melodically) was fuckin' great. Although, it's too bad this is the only time he did this (as far as I know). The way he changed the verse at the end just added the extra punch n' kick that the song needed in the outro. I wish the album version is like that (although, I don't think it will be).

People, you have to listen to Budapest's Madagascar....it's totally amazing in execution n' style.

You read my mind bro. And Indianna Rose I agree... The little mod he made took the song to another level for me.

Listen to IRS at Novarock... Axl's voice is just amazing, can't compare with any other bootleg.

Better's best version, IMO, was Download festival (I'm talkin' about just the sound), although the bass is missing at the last verses because Tommy was freaking out. :P

Indeed, it's a must have! Both video and audio kick ass too.

"Better" is one of the weakest songs of the set-list, unfortunately. It seems to present difficulty for the band in pulling it off live. It's still great, don't get me wrong, but it's ten times weaker than it SHOULD be.

Dunno about this one. I'd say 5/17.

Where can we find it? I'd really like to hear it now after reading your description!
